Oracle database 7 for download

Dear all,
There's an oracle database 7 in my company. Because of company requirment , i need to upgrade it to oracle database version 10gR2. But we have only one DB ( no clustering) in our environment, so i think maybe installing an oracle DB 7 first to simulate exporting / importing data to oracle 9i is a safer solution. But i couldn't find the original oracle DB 7 install CD, could it be possible to download it from any website? Any help would be appreciated.
Best Regards.

An Oracle7 home is easy to clone. Just TAR the ORACLE_HOME from the source system and unTAR it at the target.
As long as the OS version is the same !
You must first :
a. create the Unix group and username with the same GID and UID (or you'll have to change them for the extracted directories and files with chgrp and chown if you can't create the same GID/UID)
b. create the same directory structure (if you have ORACLE_BASE defined in the source system, set that up as well)
c. create the .profile (or .cshrc) on the new server as the same as on the source server
d. ensure that Unix kernel parameters relating to SHM and SEM are setup on the new server
After extracting the ORACLE_HOME, you have to update the listener.ora and tnsnames.ora entries to reflect the new server hostname/ip address.

  • Possible to use ServiceCenter's Oracle database for Content Management?

    Hi,
I have a quick question, and I would really appreciate if any of you have a quick answer for me.
My company is sourcing for a Content Management option as a complement to the object information that can be stored in ServiceCenter's CMDB. We are working towards a complete information storage solution, where the CMDB is the obvious master for all object information.
Our ServiceCenter/CMDB solution is run on an Oracle database. We have an interest in possibly using an Oracle Content Management solution on top of the existing Oracle database.
A question was raised if the Content Management solution can use ServiceCenter's Oracle database for storing documents, ie act as a Content Management database?
The documents need to be fully searchable from Oracle's Content Management product. The solution should support storage of a large amount of data and documents and be scalable. It is critical that this in no way lower ServiceCenter's performance.
Please bear in mind that I'm not a technician, but involved in the portal/Content Management aspect of the project. I'm also responsible for the user environment of our ServiceCenter-implementation.
    Best regards

    Hi Harsha,
Are you going to use the same ERP server for Content server as well? Are you planning to store the documents of this ECC system to the content server only?
If yes, what is the use of that, Anyways all the documents will be stored on this server only for this ECC system. Please go through the link given by Mr Saxena above, that will give you a clear picture of how the content server works.
You can install content server with Max DB although you already have oracle installed on your linux server.
I would suggest you to check the stuff about content server and get your concepts cleared up before going ahead. if you are not clear, you may end up crashing your existing ERP system as well.

Shyam. As pointed out, Oracle has not certified anything for Windows 7, and will not certify anything for any "home" edition.
I'd recommend you get a copy of VMPlayer (free, from VMware) and create a couple of virtual machines running Oracle Enterprise Linux (free, from Oracle), then install your Oracle db on the virtual machines.

If you are running the x64 version of Windows 2003 and not the Itanium version, you will find 10.2.0.1 here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10201winx64soft.html
You may then patch it to 10.2.0.3 by downloading the patch from Metalink.

I want to install Oracle database on Fedora core 7(x86_64). I tried with 10201_database_linux_x86_64.cpio.gz setup but it does not support Fedora core 7 platform. Please suggest me where to find the proper setup.
    Thanks in advance

    This trick, from a previous thread worked for me for Redhat 5. You might wanna use it for Fedora;
Copy the oraparam.ini from the installation source install/oraparam.ini to /tmp directory.
    Edit the file /tmp/oraparam.ini
Add the name of your distribution on this line. It might work for you

  • How to create the oracle database for MDM

    Hello Friends,
I am new to MDM technology. I have been asked to install MDM 5.5 on windows with oracle database.
i have gone through the installation guides and master guide of MDM. But in the installation the procedure is not given to create the data base after oracle installation. i want to know do i need to create the database manually if yes then what should be the DBSID of the database and schema name etc.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Manoj

    Well, let's rock.
    <b>Oracle database creation</b>
Use <b>Oracle Database Configuration Assistant</b> (Start -> Programs -> ...) to create a new database.
The database naming (on Step 3) is up to you. I used MDM as for SID and MDM.<MYHOSTNAME>.<MYDOMAIN> as for the db name.
Be sure you select UTF8 for the character set (on Step 12) - this requirement is mentioned in the SAP MDM Installation Guide.
All other settings can go default.
    <b>Listener and TNS name configuration</b>
The next step is to configure a listener and tns name for your database.
Run the <b>Oracle Net Configuration Assistance</b> and select the "Listener configuration". Default settings on the wizard pages should suite your configuration.
    Click Finish.
Run the <b>Oracle Net Configuration Assistance</b> again and select the "Local Service Name configuration". Add one. Choose the name of the database for the service name. It was MDM.<MYHOSTNAME>.<MYDOMAIN> for me.
Ensure that you use name of the database that you've entered during the database creation.
Everything else should go as suggested by default.
Once you are at the Test stage of the wizard and get the "invalid login/password" message, clisk "Change login" and use SYSTEM user and the password you\ve entered during databae creation.
After the test passes, you can connect to your Oracle database through the MDM Console.
Please, let me know if you have any questions, I'll help.
    Thanks!

  • Just started supporting Oracle Databases  for SAP Systems

    Hello Guys/Girls,
I am working as oracle dba for the past 7 years, but this is the first time, I got an opportunity to adminster databases supporting SAP systems. I am doing search on SAP Network, and gathered information on BRTOOLS, SAPGUI etc., but could not find the details what I am looking for like, database objects growth rate, sap-oracle database performance specific details, as a oracle dba what are the DOs&DONTs etc., After made a lot of search on google, I found a book from O'Reilly, but that book covers older SAP, and Oracle versions. Our Client uses oracle 9i, and 10g primarily.
I am confident as a Oracle DBA supporting non-sap systems, but not SAPsystems. Is any one of you pls., suggest me or provide me some guide lines in terms of Database Management.
    Appreciate your time!

Greate to meet another DBA in forum. The big problem we will face is SQL Tune.
Nothing much Diffnt supporting SAP.SAP PRovided some ready made tools to monitor and to solve.Reg tuning still we can follow same methoda but with approval from SAP or by ref SAP notes.Which u can find at service market place.
You can find some PDfs in sap market place and sdn.Which are ex'ly for DBas.
Reg Growth rate you can have a look on sap transactions and there are some notes also.I dont think there is specific Book or Doc which will say Dos and donts.
Performance we used to follow same methoda as a Dbas with ref of sap notes and support for any side effects.
let me know if are in need of any specific info

    Hello,
I recommend you to take a look at the "Product Availability Matrix":
    http://service.ap.com/pam
It will give you the most current information.
For example, NW2004s has kernel 700 and it only supports <b>Oracle 10g</b> ( that means that the information from Ben is <u>not totally correct</u> )
    NW2004 supports <b>Oracle 10g and 9i</b>
