Oracle Database - Apple Mini Mac (Tiger)
I am student who is currently learning SQL and PL/SQL and are requiring an Oracle database to practice with. I have downloaded what I think are the downloads however i seem to be having difficulty in getting them to install.
I am have difficulty in umderstanding the installation instructions as I recently have moved from Windows
Please could somebody provide me with any assistance to my problem.
I am currently running Tiger on my Mini Mac
Just look here <Oracle 10g DB on Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
type the command : sudo gcc_select 3.3 (may be this is not necessary)
install oracle with oracle installer
we've made an entreprise installation
at the end of the installation, the database creation don't work (it's normal)
type the commands :
cd $ORACLE_HOME/lib
mv libnnz10.dylib libnnz10.dylib.ori
relink all
mv libnnz10.dylib.ori libnnz10.dylib
now you can run dbca and create a database

Need Oracle Database 10g For Mac OS 10.4 PowerPC
Hi, I am looking for Oracle Database 10g for Mac OS 10.4 PowerPC. I need to run this software on a PowerBook G4. I would appreciate any download links or tips that can help.
I am using Virtual PC 7 running Windows 2000, but the emulator runs painfully slow. Things would run a lot smoothly if I had the PowerPC version of Oracle Database. I heard it exist.

Need step by step installation of oracle database 10g on mac os x (10.5)
Does anybody know step by step installation of Database 10g on mac os x?
ThanksFirst you download Oracle 10.1.0.3: The only supported database version.
Then you beg Apple to send you a copy of Panther 10.3.6: The only supported operating system version.
Then, if you are familiar with FreeBSD and/or Mac OSX, you should have it up and running in a day or so.
If you are thinking you can do this with 10gR2 or above on Tiger or Leopard you might want to consider that dropping a brick on your foot is faster and will generally produce the same sensation. -

Oracle Database installation on mac os 10.5
Hi.,
I have installed oracle database 10.2 on mac os 10.5. It is installed successfuly but when i typed sqlplus in terminal to login into oracle. it show dyld library loaded, , reason : image not found but I have already set librabry path as .
export ORACLE_HOME=/Users/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1
export DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib
What can be the possible reason for this message ??
Can any one suggest ??
Regards.
shyamOracle database is currently supported only on Mac Power PC platforms and the highest possible opsystem is Tiger not Leopard as in Your case. And only 10gR1.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/support/metalink/index.html
And error message should be longer, with concrete library name.
Try to do following
cd /
find . -name "name_of_the_library.dylib"
And then adjust DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH to meet the path/ -

What flash player software is good for use with the Apple Mini?
I get "flash player missing" warning on news sites when I go to available videos. What can I do? I have a 2015 Apple Mini iOS 10 with 500 GB hard disc
There are no active reference viri in the wild for any of the hard-sold antivirus
applications to remove from the Mac OS X. You can use ClamXAV from its
maker's site (no other, as some are bad copies loaded with adware or malware)
here: http://www.clamxav.com/ that can help isolate and remove items that
you may get from someone's email who owns a windows PC, if you do not want
to forward those to some of your friends who use windows.
A larger concern may be adware and some kinds of malware, they are avoidable
but unless you are zealous about how you use your computer gear online, it may
be possible to get several items that can make using your Mac seem nightmarish.
Here are a few links to information that are best glossed-over before an issue so
you may have an idea what you may be up against when or if you do get adware
or some other malcontent from browsing corrupted web sites. Oh, also avoid the
torrent or bitorrent sites that offer file sharing or 'free downloads' that you later will
pay for one way or another. These can be tainted with badware that starts out in
a web browser, or perhaps if you get a bad copy from corrupted download online
of a known software but not from the maker's site (such as a copy of Flash, but
not from Adobe's own site) these can be a lot of work to undo their bad effects.

For Adobe Flash, which is not installed in OS X anymore, you could get it, or see
what else may be helpful to use to see video file content. I don't use it and feel
that if there is some great need to see a video (most are like trash) the better ones
now use HTML5 or some other technologies that just work in the browser w/o Flash.
If you need Flash be careful and keep the OS X updated and be sure to get Adobe
updates for their product. Some of their products are OK, but some are bloatware.
The links I posted on how to get the Adobe Flash (adobe help pages) are ones to
note. There are other items in their site which may or may not be helpful to you.
You may do well to start a new thread, or ask and someone could ask the ASC Hosts
to move your post into a new thread of its own; then any replies to it may appear to
your email used when you set up your account with the support communities forums
if you have yours set to announce activity or replies, etc to your posts here.
If your ordered Mini has at least 8GB RAM (it would be soldered in as part of the logic
board, and so not upgradable; unlike certain former builds that allowed user upgrade)
and if it has an Apple Fusion or SSD Drive, or a hard disk drive with 7200-RPM spin
rate, then it would like be quick enough going forward a few years. More random access
memory (RAM) is separate from drive storage or system hard drive capacity; these do
different things. A computer may temporarily use storage capacity as virtual RAM, but
it would be limited by hard drive data rate speeds, that are much slower than chip RAM.
A Fusion or hybrid, or SSD (solid state drive) can speed up the system since the files
that would end up being written to that drive and then read as temporary RAM, would
be moved in faster speed, so your computer function would be noticably faster. A stock
Mac Mini with hard disk drive generally has a slower 5400-RPM rotational hard drive.
This is slower than a Fusion hybrid and much slower than an SSD. The latter is more
costly than the other choices. A fair option if it exists, is a 7200-RPM hard drive, of up
to 1TB capacity, if available as a built-to-order option from Apple when ordered direct.
(An authorized Apple service provider could upgrade the storage drives with suitable
product replacement, and not void the AppleCare warranty; an upgrade at that point
may or may not be covered under an extended (optional) AppleCare plan.
If you ordered your Apple Mini mac from online Apple Store, you have certain time
limits to return it; and depending on which country or region you live in, the rules may
be different. In the US, you have 14 days from when you get it, to change your mind
and notify Apple. If you do not notify Apple (they will authorize a return before you can
ship it back or before you could return it to an official Apple Store in person) the time
limit goes away and you then are the owner of the item. So you do have a limit if you
bought from Apple directly, online or from the official Apple Store. If you do return an
item to Apple you bought direct from them, you could call on the 13th day, providing the
day you call to start the return process is a business day & not weekend or holiday, and
that may allow you a few more days to physically return the computer to them. If you
were to return to the Apple Store online (via fedex or acceptable parcel delivery with
tracking) be sure to check to see exactly when you would need to get it back to Apple.
{If bought direct from Apple & not an authorized independent reseller, be sure to ask
Apple sales when or if you have any issue; returns or pre-arrival, they can be helpful.}
And if you are not in the US or Canada, there still may be 14 days return, if bought via
the official Apple Store (retail location) or from the online Apple Store. This isn't available
through authorized resellers who set their own sales return policies as independent agents.
Anyway, hopefully your new Mini has sufficient upgrade to work well with Yosemite and
whatever applications you may need to load into it; some can be top-heavy in demand
of resources. That's why one has to consider the purpose prior to buying a configuration.
Hopefully this helps you somewhat.
Good luck & happy computing! -
Hi All,
How to connect the Oracle database using C/C++ on Mac OS X? I have used Instant Client library "instantclient-basic-macosx-10.1.0.3" provided by the Oracle but could not be success. I'm using PowerPC G4, Mac OS X 10.4.9, and XCode version 2.4.1.
Specially Mr Oscar Armanini has done this in C on Mac OS X. Please let me know. I would be very thankful to you.
Thanks,
GhufranHi Ghufran
there are two Metalink Notes on using Instant Client with PowerPc Mac:

How to Install, Configure and Test Oracle 10g Instant Client Basic,
SQL*Plus and SDK Packages for Mac OS X

How to Install, Configure and Test Oracle 10g Instant Client Basic,
SQL*Plus and SDK Packages for Mac OS X
(Runs OCCI sample code - occidml.cpp)
The first Metalink Note uses an OCI examples and it is pasted here below,
in case you don't have a Metalink ID.
The second Metalink Note uses an OCCI example.
I have never used Instant Client (neither on Os X or on other platform),
but I was successful on compiling C programs (no GUI involved) using the
Full Client installed on my PowerBook G4.
I'm a DBA, but I was a developer years ago (about when Oracle 7.3
was considered a giant step forward): I installed the Oracle 10.1 db
(a complicated job for a developer) and I got the Full Client
installed as well, for free, so I was happy to compile one of the demo C sources
(those that you can find in the Oracle Pro*C manuals:
by the way, Oracle Pro*C manuals are really worth reading).
Good luck
Oscar
Applies to: Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition - Version: 10.1.0.3
Apple Macintosh PowerPC
Goal
This article will show you how to install and configure your 10g Instant Client (IC) Software for the Mac.
It will install the following packages:
the Basic package
the SQL*Plus package and
the SDK package
and then test its connectivity to an Oracle database using SQL*Plus.
It will also show you how to setup and test a sample program, cdemo81.c, that uses the Oracle Call Interface (OCI)
to connect to the database.
The sample program is located under the <Instant_Client>/sdk/demo directory.
Solution1. Download the following three (3) files from the Oracle Technology Network (OTN) website.
You will need an account to do this.
Macintosh OS X 10g Instant Client Software
a. instantclient-basic-macosx-10.1.0.3.zip (32,395,622 bytes)
b. instantclient-sqlplus-macosx-10.1.0.3.zip (326,740 bytes)
c. instantclient-sdk-macosx-10.1.0.3.zip (293,913 bytes)
NOTE: The above three (3) files will be updated as new patches are released for the 10g Instant Client software. 10.1.0.3 or later versions (10.1.0.x) of these files may be used similarly with this article.
2. Save the following text into a file called tnsnames.ora:
# If you receive an
# ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
# error when running the setup script and attempting to connect to Oracle
# from SQL*Plus then the name of your SERVICE NAME (i.e. ORCL) may require
# that you include the DOMAIN (i.e. US.ORACLE.COM) in order to connect successfully.
# To obtain the DOMAIN of your environment, type "hostname" from your shell
# and it should report this information back to you. Configure your SERVICE
# NAME to look like Example 2.
# Example 1
ORCL =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = database_machine.us.oracle.com)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SID = orcl)
# Example 2
#ORCL.US.ORACLE.COM =
# (DESCRIPTION =
# (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = database_machine.us.oracle.com)(PORT = 1521))
# (CONNECT_DATA =
# (SERVER = DEDICATED)
# (SID = orcl)
3. Save the following text into a file called sqlplus_script.sql:
SELECT user FROM dual;
SELECT sysdate FROM dual;
SELECT 'successful ' AS TEST_RESULTS FROM dual;
exit;
4. Save the following text into a file called setup1:

# MAC OS X INSTANT CLIENT 10g SCRIPT - SETUP1
# ===========================================
# DESCRIPTION
# ===========
# This script will install and configure your 10g Instant Client (IC) Software
# for the Mac. It will install the Basic, SQL*Plus and SDK (OCI/OCCI) packages
# and then test its connectivity to an Oracle database using SQL*Plus.
# Once this script has completed, you will need to run the script SETUP2 to build
# and run the CDEMO81.C sample application located under the <IC>/sdk/demo folder
# in your newly installed Instant Client home.
# NOTE: In order for this script to run successfully, you MUST perform any
# necessary actions required under the SETUP section below.
# SETUP
# =====
# (1) You MUST be in a directoy with ALL of the following files
# BEFORE running this script:

# 4 - tnsnames.ora (configured properly)
# 5 - sqlplus_script.sql (connectivity test)
# 6 - setup1 (this file)
# 7 - setup2 (will run this file later)
# (2) Edit the TNSNAMES.ORA file and update it with the necessary information
# to connect to a database on your network. Be sure to note the comments
# in this file. You will have to change the following information:
# SERVICE NAME (orcl or orcl.us.oracle.com)
# HOST (database_machine.us.oracle.com)
# PORT (1521)
# SID (orcl)
# (3) Go to the end of this scrip and modify the following line:
# ./instantclient10_1/sqlplus scott/tiger@orcl @sqlplus_script.sql
# Replace "orcl" with the SERVICE NAME you used in step (2) above.
# (4) To run this script use the command: ". setup1"

# MAC OS X INSTANT CLIENT 10g SCRIPT - SETUP2
# ===========================================
# DESCRIPTION
# ===========
# This script will build and run the OCI sample application CDEMO81.C inside
# your Instant Client (IC) software located under the <IC>/sdk/demo folder.
# NOTE: In order for this script to run successfully
# (A) you MUST have already run the script SETUP1 successfully
# and
# (B) you MUST perform any necessary actions required under the SETUP
# section below.
# SETUP
# =====
# (1) You need to edit the CDEMO81.C application PRIOR to running this script to
# change the connection information. By default, the application will attempt
# to connect as user SCOTT with password TIGER to a local Oracle database using
# the BEQ-LOCAL network protocol. This will not work.
# (A) You need to make sure you have the SCOTT/TIGER schema created in your database.
# If not, have your DBA create it by running the script "SCOTT.SQL" from your
# <ORACLE_HOME>/rdbms/admin folder.
# (B) You need to modify the CDEMO81.C application to connect to the database
# you have configured inside your TNSNAMES.ORA file.
# (i) Open the CDEMO81.C file located under the <IC>/sdk/demo folder.
# (ii) Find the following line of code:
# (void) OCIServerAttach( srvhp, errhp, (text *)"", strlen(""), 0);
# and change the two empty strings to the SERVICE NAME you are using like so
# (void) OCIServerAttach( srvhp, errhp, (text *)"ORCL", strlen("ORCL"), 0);
# (iii) Save the file.
# (2) You MUST be in the initial directory where you copied all of the files listed
# in script SETUP1. In this same location you will find SETUP2. Run SETUP2 from
# this location.
# (3) To run this script use the command: ". setup2"
# BEGINNING OF SCRIPT

# information. See step 1B under the SETUP section in this script to resolve
# this error.
6. Take all seven (7) files and move them into the same directory on your OS where you want to install the Instant Client software from:
1 - instantclient-basic-macosx-10.1.0.3.zip
2 - instantclient-sqlplus-macosx-10.1.0.3.zip
3 - instantclient-sdk-macosx-10.1.0.3.zip
4 - tnsnames.ora
5 - sqlplus_script.sql
6 - setup1
7 - setup2
7. Open the file tnsnames.ora. Be sure to review the comments in this file. You will have to change the following information to connect to a database on your network:
SERVICE NAME (orcl or orcl.us.oracle.com)
HOST (database_machine.us.oracle.com)
PORT (1521)
SID (orcl)
Save the file.
8. Open the file setup1, go to the end of this script and modify the following line:
./instantclient10_1/sqlplus scott/tiger@orcl @sqlplus_script.sql
Replace orcl with the SERVICE NAME you used in Step 7 above. Save the file.
9. You are now ready to install the 10g Instant Client software for Mac OS X. From the location where your seven (7) files reside, issue the following command:
[macosx]/oracle> . setup1
NOTE: Be sure to include the period "." and a space " " before the word "setup1" so all environment variables persist for the current session.
This will install the Instant Client Basic and SQL*Plus software and connect to the database specified in the tnsnames.ora file.
10. Here is the sample output of a successful execution of the setup1 script:
[macosx]/oracle> . setup1

[macosx]/oracle>
11. Once you have obtained a successful execution of the setup1 script, you are ready to configure cdemo81.c to connect to the database you have configured inside your tnsnames.ora file.
Open the cdemo81.c file located under the <Instant_Client>/sdk/demo folder. Find the following line of code:
(void) OCIServerAttach( srvhp, errhp, (text *)"", strlen(""), 0);
Change the two (2) empty strings to the SERVICE NAME you used in Step 7 above.
(void) OCIServerAttach( srvhp, errhp, (text *)"ORCL", strlen("ORCL"), 0);
Save the file.
12. You are now ready to run cdemo81.c. You MUST issue the following command from the initial directory where you copied all of the files in Step 6:
[macosx]/oracle> . setup2
NOTE: Be sure to include the period "." and a space " " before the word "setup2" so all environment variables persist for the current session.
This script will configure your environment, build and run the OCI sample code connecting to the database specified in the tnsnames.ora file.

Greetings:
I have just acquired an older mini mac (2006 1.66 ghz core 2 duo) Anyway, it had Tiger 10.4 on it and the Bluetooth worked for the wireless Apple keyboard and mouse. I upgraded to Snow Leopard and everything works fine - everything except Bluetooth.
The Bluetooth icon does not exist in the System Preferenc screen.
I tried to download Bluetooth from Apple site but the message I got told me that I didn't need it.
Under Finder, Utilities, I found Bluetooth File Exchange but the message I got was that I had to connect a Bluetooth device to my computer.
I have to admit that I have no idea what's going on here. I am hoping to avert the need to try another complete re-install of Snow Leopard.
Any ideas?
Thanks
javaminitPuzzled is a polite word for it.
Thanks Barry - I found the file and trie to send it to trash. The response: (This item cannot be trashed as it it owned by the system).
After dancing around with PRAM and SMC and turning on while holding the power-cntrl-option-shift and heavens knows what else, I now have the Bluetooth symbol on the top of the menu bar but it is ghoseted and has a squiggly line through it. This, I didn't have before so I read this as some progress. It notes that "Bluetooth is not available">
However, the Bluetooth icon is still missing from the System Preferences window - you know, between "network" and "sharing".
You note that you reckon the issue is not software based and you may be correct. The reason that I wonder about that though, is that before I installed Snow Leopard, the keyboard and mouse both paired with the box under the Tiger 10.4. That leads me to conclude that hardware is functional and that there is some screwy little bit of software that is not cooperating.
If I could delete Bluetooth from the system and re-install a fresh version, that might help. Or, is there a way I can use the Snow Leopard install disc and only load in Bluetooth?
I'm stumped.
Thanks for your time
/Bill C.
