Oracle Database Backup in ASCII format
Hi All,
I want to know,
1. Is it possible to have oracle database backup in ASCII format
Please let me know
Thanks
Arjun
No, it isn't, as a proper backup is a physical copy of a database.
As Oracle doesn't store data in ASCII, the backup also can't be ASCII.
Why are you asking this? What is the business requirement?

I want to format my hard disk. but i want to take a copy of my oracle database
so anyone can please give me the solution for how to take a back up and again how to reload to my new oracle database? if it succeeded is it possible to retain all the schemas of my old database?One way to do this is to take a cole backup
and restore with backup controlfile.
1. alter database backup controlfile to trace
2. find this trace and backup it to another drive
3. shutdown immediate
4. Backup you database files - if you don't know them (issue when db is open select name from v$session) on another drive5. format you r drive
6. restore your files from backup
7. Open trace file and creater a script from it yous copy and paste one of two cases
8. if it is win nt. make an instance oradi,m -NEW -SID db
9. sqlplus /nolog
10. conn / as sysdba
11. startup nomount
12. execute script created in point 7

Oracle Database backup via ESX/VMWare
We are hoping to migrate our SAP systems to Virtual machines running 64bit Linux/Oracle.
We currently use Veritas Net Backup on our HPUX boxes for all our SAP backups, but as we want to go the ESX route it would be nice to perform automated backups (and restores) at the physical server level.
What backup options are there for backing up SAP on a virtual machine?
Is there a backint connection between Oracle/SAP and Veritas Consolidated Backup?
thanks,
Stephen> We can backup the VMDK files after placing the database in backup mode, so a restore would be to recover this file (or files). But I don't see how this can be automated.
Does that mean you want to put the Oracle database files into VMDK files and not on the raw device/LUN?

Oracle Database Backup Service - delete orphaned backups
Hello
I made some backup tests into the cloud. Now the database is deleted, but there are still backups in the cloud. How can I remove these backups? I see them via REST client in my browser:
Is there client available or a REST command to do it?
Regards, MartinHave you checked out this part of the storage documentation? You can use curl to easily access these commands and the docs have great examples.

Mailbox Database Backup in Vhdx format
Dear All,
I am new to Backup world and that too for Exchange.
I have a Exchange server 2010 in visualized Environment installed on Windows server R2 Std. Edition.
I backed up one of the database using Windows Native Backup Utility. Backup went successfully ,logs got purged.
When I verified the again I figured out that there is no .edb file all backup files has vhdx extention.
is it normal?
TheAtulAYes. Windows native backup writes files to a VHDx, or a virtual disk. You can mount this disk (in Disk Manager) to find the files it has backed up. Did you want to access the raw EDB file from the backup for some reason?

How to configure backup parallel in SAP with oracle database?
Dear SAP,
We need your suggestion on oracle database backup parallel using brbackup, our SAP system run on:
OS: UNIX - SUN Solaris SPARC 10
SAP: ECC 6.0 SR3
Database: Oracle 10.2.0.4
Our production database are growing rapidly, estimate growing is 2GB/days. Right now we backup our Production using one tape that estimated time to online backup is 4-5hours.
In there future, if we stayed this configuration. It will take long time to backup and restore it's not applicable. That's why we are planning to add more tapes during backup (4 tape parallel).
I read from help.sap, that we can configure this on $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/init<SID>.sap. in parameter:
compress = harware
backup_dev_type = tape
tape_address = (tape1, tape2, tape3, tape4)
tape_address_rew = (tape1, tape2, tape3, tape4)
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/88/a2a041a5d4af4db168992639d65d3b/frameset.htm
My question,
If we want to backup parallel using 4 tapes, is this configuration that we need to do (init<SID>.sap) from sap side (DB13)?
Thanks and Best Regards,
WidiDear Mark,
Thanks for your help. actually I have one more question:
How do I restore my backup form this 4 tapes, if I'm using parallel backup?
Will the command same like I restore form 1 tape:
example:
brrestore u2013b beczqlnk.ant u2013m full
brrestore u2013a 5371-5372=/oracle/<SID>/oraarch/
Below are the paramter that I will configure:
- tape_address = /dev/rmt/0cbn
- compress = hardware
- backup_dev_type = tape
- exec_parallel = 4
- tape_size = 1600000
- tape_address = (dev/rmt/0mn, /dev/rmt/1mn, ..)
- tape_address_rew = (dev/rmt/0m, /dev/rmt/1m, ..)
Appreciate you help and suggestion on this.

HOW DO YOU CONVET AN ORACLE DATABASE FILE TO A TXT FILE?
Is there a way in a program unit of a form to convert an ORACLE database file into TXT format? When the file gets created, I want to use the text file in a distribution list for sending email. My code in the program unit is:
Insert into THE_IMO_EMAIL
Select distinct imo_email from DS_POC
where imo_email is not null;
commit;
Table THE_IMO_EMAIL is a temporary table. The temporary table gets deleted everytime before records get inserted into it. There is only 1 item in the temporary table.
IMO_EMAIL VARCHAR2(55)
After the COMMIT I want to copy the contents out of the
THE_IMO_EMAIL into a TXT File.
How do I do this? What parameters do I need to use? Should I do this in another program unit?can you be more clear on this
"DATABASE FILE" what is this? an RDBMS file and you need this in ASCII format. I am lost. -

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.There are 5 special characters which in xml & < > " ' if the Oracle fields contain any of those characters it will cause invaild xml.
This can be solved at the oracle side be replacing the special characters by it's html encode equivalent, so & becomes & , I think the best way to solve it
is to make a custom pipeline component and translate the special characters there.
There is my Send Port Properties. Do you mean the default biztalk pipeline component ("XML Receive") cannot translate any special characters? -
SAP Production Systems Database backup failed
Dear Guru,
I have been facing a problem with our SAP Production system's oracle database backup for last three days. Our back up goes through TSM server. At night 10 pm we have schedule backup for whole offline + redo log backup, 11 pm check and update optimizer statistic and at 11:30 pm Check Database. For last three days above mentioned backup getting failed and we are not able to get such a details log by which i can understand the issue. But Our Development server and Quality server's backup which are scheduled at 12 am and 2 am, the both backup schedules finish successfully. And in morning all schedule backups of Production systems finish without any errors. The issues is coming only with Whole database backup + redo log Backup which schedule at night 10 pm. I have mentioned the log whatever i have got in below:
07.02.2012 07:30:06 Job started
07.02.2012 07:30:06 Job has exceeded its latest start date
07.02.2012 07:30:06 Job cancelled after system exception ERROR_MESSAGE
Above mentioned logs are showing 1day advance log where i have mentioned yesterdays log. That means it should shows 06.02.2012 instead of 07.02.2012 and time should be 22:00:00 instead of 07:20:06.
Our Oracle version is 10.2.0.4.0/ kernel release 701/BRBACKUP 7.00 (40)
Please Guide me.
Regards,
Samrat ChakrabortyOK,
this has nothing to do with brbackup or TSM.
You batchjob starts at 07:30 !!!
Means before that, you do not have any action at all.
Then the job crosschecks it has passed its intended startdate and terminates,
which is correct, since you do not like brbackup to shut down your DB at 07:30!
No brbackup is started at all, which is why you get no log and no tsm connect takes place.
I assume, you misconfigured some operationmodes and at 07:30 an OP-modeconfiguration
with batchjobs switches back in place so that the jobs do start too late.
Check RZ04 and the OP mode timetable
If it is not this, it has to be something else with the batch scheduler causing delay
or may be all BTC processes are busy, but this seems unlikely with a start at 07:30 sharp..

How to backup Oracle Database Single Instance using RMAN
Folks,
Hello. I am using Oracle Database Server 11gR1 with Operating System Oracle Linux 5.10.
I understand how to backup database instance in SQL Server with Windows. But don't really understand how to backup database instance in Oracle with Linux.
I have done Cold backup and Hot backup for the database instance HRCS90 but both get the same error message.
Cold backup is below:

My question is:
Can any folk tell me the specific steps (command by command) to backup a single database instance in Oracle using RMAN ?
Thanks.Folks,
Hello. Thanks a lot for replying. My database instance named HRCS90 is going to be backed up. My backup directory is /backup_Database_Instance_HRCS90.
If database in open state, we must back up in archive log. If database in mount state but not open, we can back up in noarchive log.
I have tried to back up HRCS90 in archive and noarchive log when database in mount state but not open as below:

RMAN-03009: failure of backup command on ORA_DISK_1 channel at 12/01/2013 17:56:51
ORA-19504: failed to create file "/backup_Database_Instance_HRCS90/full_0coqeia5_12_1"
ORA-27040: file create error, unable to create file
Linux-x86_64 Error: 13: Permission denied
As we see the above last 2 commands, either archive or noarchive, I get the same error:
Archive: ORA-19504: "failed to create file /backup_Database_Instance_HRCS90/full_0boqei2c_11_1"
Noarchive: ORA-19504: "failed to create file /backup_Database_Instance_HRCS90/full_0coqeia5_12_1"
My question is:
What is the file "full_0boqei2c_11_1" or "full_0coqeia5_12_1" ? How to solve the above error ?
Thanks. -
How to take a Hot backup of Oracle database
1: put the db in archive log mode
2: set the db_sid to correct one
3: login to sqlplus
4: verify the name of the db that you are connected to
select name from v$database;
5: check if the db is in archive log made
select log_mode from v$database;
if not in archive log mode
another command to check
archive log list;
6: find where on disk oracle writes archive log when it is in archive log mode
sql> show parameter log_archive_dest_1;
if the value is found to be 0, that means no values will be recorded, so we need to change it
sql> alter system set log_archive_dest_1='LOCATION=c:\database\oradata\finance\archived_logs\'
scope=spfile;
7: shutdown immediate; < this is done just to prepare the db for hot backups >
8: startup the db in mount mode
startup mount;
( 3 startup types : nomount - just starts the instance, mount - locates the control files and open up according to the values, open - finds the datafiles from the control files and opens up the db )
9: put the db in archive log mode
alter database archivelog;
10: open the database
alter database open;
11: check the status of the db
select log_mode from v$database;
SQL> archive log list;
12: create a directory for archived log
check if its empty, if empty we need to switch
sql> alter system archive log current;
run it 5 times < need to put / and enter > , then check the archive log dir , we will find files
13: make a table in the database and insert data in it
create table employees (fname varchar(2));
check the table
desc employees;
insert values
insert into employees values ('Mica');
14: tablespace must be in hot backup mode
check the status
select * from v$backup;
if found not active, then we need to change
we cannot put the db in hot backup mode, unless it is archive log mode
change to hot backup mode
alter database begin backup;
check the status
select * from v$backup;
15: now we can only COPY DBF FILES
copy *dbf <distination location>
16: need to take the db out to hot backup mode
alter database end backup;
17: need to make another archive log switch
alter system archive log current;
18: need to copy control files now, need to do a binary bckup
alter database backup controlfile to '<location>\controlbackup';
19: insert more values to the table
insert into employess values ('NASH')
COMMIT;
make another archive log switch : alter system archive log current;
do the same process for more values
20 : backup all the archive logs to a new location
21: shutdown the db and simulate a hw error, delete all the files from the database folder
22: try to start the sqlplus and db ::: error
23: copy all the backups to the db dir
need to copy the control files, rename the binary backup of the control file and make the copies as needed
24: try to mount the db, error < must use reset logs or noreset logs >
25: need to do a recovering of the database
shutdown
restore the archive logs
startup mount;
recover database until cancel using backup controlfile;
it will ask for a log file :
yes for recovery
cancel for cancelling recovery
26: check status: open the database in readonly
alter database open read only;
check the tables to see the data
shutdown immediate
shartup mount;
recover again : recover database until cancel using backup controlfile;
if oracle is asking for a log that do nto exist , all we have to do is type cancel
27: open the database
alter database open;
need to do reset logs
alter database open resetlogs;
28: check the db that you are connected, check the tables
thanks and regards

http://www.nitrofuture.comA very long list ... let me make it shorter.
SQL> archive log list;If I see this:
Database log mode No Archive ModeI put the database into archivelog mode and leave it there forever.
If it is in archivelog mode:
RMAN> TARGET SYS/<password>@<service_name> NOCATALOG
RMAN> BACKUP DATABASE PLUS ARCHIVELOG;Though there are a lot of things one could do better such as incrementals with block change tracking, creating an RMAN catalog, etc.

How to extract row number of geoRaster as number ?
Hi all, I need to get the row (or similarly column and band) number of a georaster as number. Some approach that i have explored : (a) Using SDO_GEOR.getSpatialDimSizes, which return an sdo_Number_array. For example SDO_NUMBER_ARRAY(211, 725) means 2
