    Moderator Action:
No they cannot send you a document that is available only to those with access to MOS.
That would violate the conditions of having such service contract credentials.
Asking someone to violate such privileges is a serious offense and could get that other person's organization banned from all support and all their support contracts cancelled.
    Your post is locked.
Your duplicate post that you placed into the Audit Vault forum space has been removed (it had no responses).
This thread which you had placed in the Solaris 10 forum space is moved to the Audit Vault forum space.

  • Oracle Database 11g Administrator or Oracle PL/SQL and Forms Developer?

    Hi,
I am thinking about doing an Oracle certification course- Oracle Database 11g Administrator or Oracle PL/SQL and Forms Developer.
Oracle Database 11g OCP and OCM certification requires 3 mandatory training courses to be completed that costs between $1900 and $3250/each. Oracle PL/SQL certication doesn't require any mandatory training course.
Which one of these would be a good choice? Please advise.
    Thank you,
    Tracy

Regardless of which path you want to take, in order to get the OCP certification in either the DBA or PL/SQL developer track, you must first obtain the respective OCA certification for that track. I'm assuming that since you are still undecided in which path to take that you haven't started working on either yet. If you look at the pages for the OCA DBA and OCA PL/SQL Developer certs and what is required for each, you'll see that the first block of tests for either certification (the SQL based exams) has the same options (1Z0-007, 1Z0-047, 1Z0-051) and passing one of those SQL based exams gives credit towards obtaining both OCA certifications. That might be a good place to start.
Doing one of these tests first might give you some extra time to decide which track you want to pursue. But as Justin said, it really depends on what you do (or plan on doing) in your career as to which path might be more beneficial for you.
As for the OCM level stuff, I wouldn't even think about it until you get the OCP. One step at a time... Same with OCP before OCA. That being said, my suggestions are just that, suggestions. You're free to take any exams/courses in any order, but you won't be able to obtain the certs until you have completed the requirements for each.

  • Install oracle database prior to installing oracleAS ?

    Hello world,
I am trying to installing oracle application server on my computer.
Going through installation steps I find that OracleAS metadata repository will be created automatically in a database.
Does the installing OracleAS comes with Oracle database? or Am I required to install Oracle Database before I install OracleAS Infrastructure components?
Please point me in the right direction.
    Thanks

    Hi,
By default for OAS 10g r2 metadata repository get created during your oracle infra installation,
There is no need to install separate oracle Database before installing Application server.
It depends on which OAS are you installing.
    Kindly revert for any clarification

  • Can I make Oracle/Microsoft Odbc connection without TNS service???

    Hi All,
I want to make ADODB connection to oracle 10g database. For this currently I am using odbc connection, which requires TNS service setup in my pc. Hence I need to install Oracle client on my pc as well. Which requires license.
So is there any alternative, with which I can make my ADODB connection without TNS service implementation. Or any inputs on this will do for me. Only the thing is i need some freeware with which i can do this.
    Thnx,
    kc

    Hi,
Well I think you might have landed in the wrong forum.
This forum is for the Oracle Call Interface (OCI) which is a C programming interface to Oracle.
Your question doesn't look to be about that unless I am misreading it.
Perhaps you are looking for the Oracle Data Access Components (ODAC) downloads?
These include client software in addition to the various data access components on Windows.
    ODAC is located here:

    Thanks, Kuassi

    Hi Kuassi,
Thanks for letting us know that your book is available. I have been following one of your articles about "Virtualize Your Oracle Database with Web Services". More specifically "The Database as Web Services Consumer". I think that this is an area that has in the past been under estimated as to the potential benefits.
I am currently trying to develop a solution that consumes several interfaces with a couple of them being published web services, so an ideal solution. I have then spent the last three weeks having to read up about the architecture of Java in the database, Jpublisher and make sense of how it all works together.
I have got very close to getting one of the web services to work but failed due to using 10gR2 where all the java & libraries has moved to version 1.5. The solution is to load the jdk1.4.2 and configure jpublisher to use this. So far so good except this is not available on some platforms, Windows - 64 bit (not itanium).
The configuration is proving very challenging but will hopefully reap rewards.
(Thought I would give you some background to my experience).
Anyway my question to you is having looked at Jdeveloper it appears to do almost anything except consume services into the database, also with Java now being at version 1.5 outside the database for 10gR2 and supporting 1.4 inside, do you see some alignment of these in future database releases?
Finally off to buy your book now as no doubt there is a huge amount more to learn.
    Kind Regards

  • Host Credentials Validation Error - Oracle database on Windows Server 2008

I am trying to log into an oracle database residing on a windows 2008 server through enterprise manager. I keep getting the error Validation error - . I have added my username to the "log on as bacth job" properties. but I still keep getting this error.

    Try also adding:
Logon as a Service and Act as Part of the Operating System.
I assume you are using a domain account and not one that is local to the box being monitored, correct?
Also, in OEM, go to Preferences...Preferred Credentials and enter the user name and password that you are using for the Normal Username and Normal Password and then click test. If this works, you should be good to go.

You posted this plea a mere 37 minutes after your original. This is a global forum of volunteers. • Oracle database on windows

Hi, I have installed oracle 11g on windows for testing purpose. I am facing few issues:
    1) after logging to database. I executed 'Shutdown' command. i took much time. but after that I executed startup. now the databse is not starting uo back.
it says : ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
    2) how can we check the status of database whether it is up and running or down
I know in linux, we can check it by ps -ux |grep tns
is there any similar command in windows
    3) moreover, I created the general database by using dbca utility. but it did not craeted the default tables . i.e emp, dept etc.
I guess these are the basic tables that gets created.
    Thanks
    Charandeep S.

I did all the steps as mentioned by you
    +1.Please check pfile is present.ORACLE_HOME\database\initorcl.ora+
I could not find the file initorcl.ora, however there is a file named SPFILEORCL.ORA.
+2.Please check the services.msc as vinayak said.if the service Oracleserviceorcl is not there ,create the service like c:\...>oradim -new -sid orcl -syspwd sys+
I have tried a lot and finally found the services and working now.
+3.the service should be present and started.if not... start it by right click -->Start.+
    I started all the services.
    +4.set the oracle_sid.c:\...>set oracle_sid=*orcl*+
    Done
    +5.check if it is set.c:\...>echo '%oracle_sid%'+
    Working :)
    +6.connect to oracle c:\...>sqlplus sys as sysdba+
    Connected
    +7.startup the database instance.c:\...>startup+
    it get started
+8.see the status of the instance.c:\...sql>select status from v$instance;+
    OPEN
    +9.see the status of the database.c:\...sql>select open_mode from v$database;+
    READ WRITE
So all the steps are working I guess and the my issue is resolved. Thank you so much for your help
