Oracle DataBase Upgradation Time

Hello Experts,
Database size is 97GB,
I want to Upgrade database from 10.2.0.1.0 To 10.2.0.2.0.
How much time it will take for Upgradation process ??.
Thanks,
Rahul S.S.

Why not upgrade to 10.2.0.5 instead .... ???
No we cant do that its not a suported version from SAP.
Only option you have is 10.2.0.2 or 10.2.0.4 or else is 11.2.0
Also as mentioned in above thread 10.2.0.1 was never supported, may be you want to upgrade to 10.2.0.4 which may be a job of hours , but always depends upon your skills as well.

As part of the upgrade, you might research how new Oracle 11g features can help your system run better.
Your upgraded system can effectively start using extended statistics, a very powerful new 11g feature, immediately after the upgrade. I have a detailed blog post on how to do this with OEM - http://iiotzov.wordpress.com/2011/11/01/get-the-max-of-oracle-11gr2-right-from-the-start-create-relevant-extended-statistics-as-a-part-of-the-upgrade

  • Oracle Database upgrade to 11G (Host_Command Issues)

Sorry I'm posting this again. Original post in Database - Upgrade. I'm not getting a lot of clicks in that category
We recently upgraded to Oracle 11g (Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production). Our PL/SQL release: (PL/SQL Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production). We use a lot of host commands inside our PL/SQL stored procedures. One of these included fetching data from an external server and pushing the data into Oracle Tables.
Most of this process is running fine, except the execution never completes. There is no issue data wise. It's just that the Host_command doesn't receive the completion status and seems to be running even though there's nothing going on in the background.
The Oracle e-business suite's concurrent program based on this stored proc also never completes, though it doesn't do anything in the background. For testing purpose, our DBA used 2 insert statements one before and one after the host_command. The insert before the host_command worked but not the one after. Please help! This is happening after we upgraded to 11g 3 weeks ago!
    Thanks, Naveen Gagadam.

  • Oracle database upgrade

urrently we are running Oracle Server 7.3.4 Under Unix (SunOS5.7) with access
to a Sybase 12.5.0.1 via Oracle-Sybase Transparent Gateway 4.1.1.0.0. For the
web services, we use OAS 4.0.8.1. Our web applications are based on Javascript
and Oracle PL/SQL to generate HTML via the PL/SQL cartridge.
We plan to upgrade the Oracle database Server from 7.3.4 to Oracle 9.2.0.1.
Q1 - Will OAS4.0.8.1 and our applications continue to work with an Oracle 9.2
database or do we have to upgrade OAS4.0.8.1 to something like 9IAS?
Q2 - If we had to upgrade OAS4.0.8.1 to 9IAS:
    a) what version?
b)will our applications (Javascript, HTML and PL/SQL-generated HTML) continue
to work uder 9IAS or do we have to make changes?
c)If we have to make changes to our application, what kind of chnges? Any
relevant articles from other users who have made the upgrade?
Please confirm that Oracle9.2 has a Gateway to Sybase 12.5.0.1 that will
support the features of 7.3.4 gateway (i.e it is downward compatible to 7.3.4
    gateway).

You can do this without a problem.
(But make sure to be safe and backup your database.)

  • DATALOAD with EIS from Oracle database - long time

Hi, We are using EIS 6.2 and an Oracle database with Star Schema. Financial system is the Essbase application.Actually, the dataload takes more then 1:30 hours... That's not acceptable for us.Each month, we have more than 40 millions rows in the fact table. The frequence of the dataload is monthly. We have a idea to reduce the dataload time. We want to create a view on the fact table with only the month of the data wanted. Is it possible to load the data with EIS from a view fact table unstead the original fact table. Is it someone to use the view fact table? Thanks, Manon

I am not sure how long is reasonable for your dataload. For some of our Essbase cubes are using Oracle views to build the outline and dataload. We have more than 70 millions new rows per month are loaded into the fact table. If you are just talking about dataload without outline update, it takes about 35 minutes to finished the dataload process.(the outline has 9 standard dimensions, one of the dimension has more than 150000 members) There are a couple of things may help you and need to check before you are using view fact table to do dataload, like indexes on your original fact table and the design/setting of your Essbase outline. Btw, we are on EIS 6.5 and Essbase 6.5.4. I hope this can help you.

As noted by orafad, the easiest approach would be to perform a full export from 10gR2, install 11gR2 into a new ORACLE_HOME, create an empty 11gR2 database, then perform a full import into 11gR2. As also noted, you will have to follow any special directions related to Primavera.

  • Performance Hit After Oracle Database Upgrade to 10.2.0.4

We have a couple dozen workbooks that took this performance hit after the upgrade of the database/migration to a new server. Worksheets that executed in the ten second range are now running for hours or simply not finishing. We took the new server factor out of the equation by rolling back the database to 10.2.0.3 where a test EUL resides and the problem was resolved. Has anyone seen this issue? Does anyone have an suggestions? An early reply would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jerre

    Rod,
Thanks for the quick reply. We are looking at the different plans and modifying the optimizer settings, switching back and forth, as we speak. We are now starting with the hints. Currently our Server 'optimizer_mode' parameter is ALL_ROWS. We are planning to change the to 'Choose' and see what happens. The workbooks that are impacted are on our oldest business areas of Finance and HR. The former setup was borrowed from another school for a quick, low cost start up. The latter was thrown together by novices. Our true datamarts developed by knowledgeable personnel with star schemas are not impacted. Of course we are planning on redoing the older business areas but time, personnel and money matters slow things down. It is these workbooks on the older business areas that are greatly affected by the migrations and upgrade. We eventually get things to settle down but past actions do not always have the same resolution with newer and better servers and upgrades.
    Thanks,
    Jerre

  • Oracle Database upgrade from 10g R2 to 11g R2

    Dear Oracle Experts,
Currently we I have three database on Oracle 10g(10.2.0.5) in same oracle home and want to upgrade only one database out of three.
Can you please advise if I can upgrade only one database instance(out of three database, same oracle home) and my two other database will run on 10g ? and can you please share steps also for the same
    Best Regards
    Farookh

    Hi,
As Harry pointed out already, it's definitely possible and a good idea actually. By installing a new Oracle home you can easily revert back to the 10g one if you need to. It keeps everything separate and makes it cleaner.
I would recommend reading the Oracle docs. DK2010 has written them down here:
    upgrade the database version 10.2.0.1.0
I made some notes on how to upgrade your database from 10g to 11g over on my site, they are the exact steps I used. It might help you to have a read through them but you should definitely read the Oracle docs and make sure everything you need for your environment is covered before upgrading. [url http://www.ora00600.com/wordpress/articles/oracle-10g-to-11g-upgrade-guide/]Here are my notes.
    Hope that helps,

  • Database upgrade time.

I'm running an upgrade from Oracle9i to 10g. So far it's going well. I'm at the part where my old database is being converted to 10g. The DB is around 16GB's in size and right now I'm going on 9 hours of "conversion". The progress bar is at 85%.
Does this sound about right for the size of DB I have?
The load on the box doing the upgrade is very low and there is almost no CPU activity (as observed by top). If I physically go and look at the server itself, the hard drive is completely inactive for the most part.
Just seems like a DB upgrade would be a bit more processor or disk I/O intensive!
Anyways, appears it should be done in the next few hours at the rate it's going.
    Thanks.

Just a follow up on this. It's been nearly two and a half hours, and the progress bar is still stuck at 85% :-(
    Guess it's hung.
Don't see any reference in the manual on what to do if this fails, so I guess my only option is to abort the upgrade and start it over again.
Good thing this is a test run on a test server. :-)

Steps to upgrade oracle database from11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.3 on Windows 2003 3

    Hi,
    Upgrade steps
    1. Install 11.2.0.3.0 rdbms software
11.2.0.3 patch set is a full release.
Beginning with the release 11.2.0.3 patch set, you have two ways to apply a patch set
i)Out-of-place upgrade (Recommended) -- 11.2.0.3 will be installed as standalone at another location. So there is no impact on source oracle home and also DB upgrade will take less time
See Note 1276368.1 : Complete checklist for out-of-place manual upgrade from 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.2 , it is applicable for 11.2.0.3 as well
ii)in-place upgrade - 11.2.0.3 will be installed on top of 11.2 installation, So source oracle home will be replaced, Downtime will be high comparing out of place upgrade
