Oracle datawarehouse and ETL

Hi Friends,
Iam new to Oracle dataware house and ETL,i have some some doubts please advice me.
1.i have installed oracle warehouse builder and stated trying mapping section.
Iam not using any ETL tool, without using ETL tool we can do the ETL process ???
please advice.
Vinu

The Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) is an ETL tool. So there's nothing that prevents you from designing ETL processes apart from, maybe, missing knowledge. With OWB and an Oracle database you've got all what you need to create mappings.

  • OWB, Oracle WorkFlow, and OEM

I am a DBA who has been charged with the task of integrating Oracle Warehouse Builder, Oracle Workflow and OEM. Our source database is 9i but our Intelligence Team would like to use 10G. Does anyone know how I might install this? Should I install 10G, then create a database for OWB and Oracle Workflow? Any direction would be helpful.

    Hi,
Have you found an answer? If not read on.
We are also having the same combination.
    1. Identify a target server (datawarehouse server).
    2. Install 10G database on it (create a seed database with DWH option).
    3. Install OWB
    4. Install workflow server.
Then , make OWB setups :
    1. Install a design repository, through which the team can carry out ETL in the OWB client.
    2. Install a runtime repository which creates 2 users - a runtime repository owner and a runtime access user('connect as') user when deploying the ETL mappings.
    3. Install a target schema using the runtime where the target objects - tables, dimensions and cubes will be created.
Then, in OWB, the team have to configure the source modules as 9i and the target modules as 10g.
    Hope this helps.

  • [newbie] Configuration of Oracle Datawarehouse Builder

I've been trying to install Oracle Datawarehouse Builder 11g/10g on a WinXP 32bit machine, however, when browsing to the Repository explorer a "page cannot be displayed error" is being displayed. Basically all I've done so far is step through the installation wizard. Basic troubleshooting (see link below) did not improve matters as much; and neither did a nifty google search.
Has anyone encountered similar issues and found a solution?

No its not a problem to get to the design center. The browser just a helpful tool to see your previous executions/deployments or scheduedules in a easy way.
There is a greay tutorial that got me started:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/11gr1_owb/index.htm
Thing is you will learn to use the tools on that tutorial but not really why you need them in your datawarehouse architecture. The best thing for that is to read a book by Ralph Kimball. The Data Warehouse ETL Toolkit: Practical Techniques for Extracting, Cleaning, Conforming, and Delivering Data.
But try the tutorial first and get used with the ETL tools.
    Cheers

  • How can we do the data migration between Oracle Applications and SAP R/3.

    Hi All,
How can we do the data migration between Oracle Applications and SAP R/3 system. What are all the possible ways to move bulk data from Oracle Apps to SAP r/3 system.
Provide any 3rd party tools which supports data migration and also pls rpovide the SAP's own data migration tools with supports the above feature.
    Awaiting for best possible solution.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Dharmaraju

the 3rd party tool is ETL , you can use ETL tool and the prepare the load files then you can use LSMW method to upload the data to SAP.

  • How to replicate data  between Oracle db and SQL server dbs in real time?

    Hello,
Anyone has idea that what tool we can use to do data replication in real time between Oracle and SQL sever or Oracle and Sybase or Sql server and Sybase?
This is topic is brought by a project manager?
I only know Oracle to Oracle dbs by streams or GoldenGate.
    Thanks
    Jerry

Since GoldenGate's bread and butter was (and is) replicating data between heterogeneous data sources, and since Oracle has purchased GoldenGate, that would seem like a natural place to start.
Beyond that, it depends on the architecture you want and how you define "real time." Just about any ETL tool on the market, whether Oracle's ODI or OWB or any number of third party products (Informatica, DataStage, etc) can handle "trickle feeds" from various data sources to a database target of your choosing. Different tools will have different sorts of integration with the source database, many will require that a bunch of triggers are created to track changes on the source systems.
If you want Oracle to control the replication process (which doesn't really make sense if we're talking about replication from a non-Oracle database to another non-Oracle database), you can use the Oracle Transparent Gateway products to create database links from Oracle to the non-Oracle databases and query data on the source database periodically.

  • Integration of oracle datawarehouse to enterprise portal

    Hi,
is it possible to connect/integrate an oracle datawarehouse to the enterprise portal? Has someone made this or has a reference of a client/company which made this integration?
    Thanks,
    Best regards,
    Christine

    Hello again,
Yes its very much possible. You will have to create a RFC / BAPI what ever you call it. And import it into  WD Java project.

  • Using BI Apps with applications other than Oracle, Peoplesoft and ....

    Hi all,
I'm new in BI Applications. We have developed our applications with oracle tools and technologies. Is there any possibility to use Oracle BI Apps with our own database and applications?
    Regards,
    Iman

I'll try to explain the "Universal Adapter."
So Oracle BI Applications contains the presentation catolog (prebuilt reports and dashboards), the .rpd (prebuilt business logic), and the Informatica Repository (the ETL process).
The warehouse model stays fairly consistent regardless of the platform. The "ETL Process" runs through SDE (source depent extract), SIL (source independent), and PLP (post load) mappings.
By utilizing the "Universal Adapter/Container" you are still able to utilize the standard .rpd and presentation catalog.
Essentially the Universal Adapter is in place to allow a user to develop discover the data needed by the "SDE" mappings, while still utilizing the rest of the functionality provided with BI Applications. This can be an overwhelming task, and I do suggest you do fairly comprehensive analysis before you attempt to utilize Oracle BI Applications with the Universal Container.
Depending on the magnitude and scope of your deployment, you might be better off developing the ETL process on your own. However, there are instances where the universal adapter can be incredibly usefull.

  • Oracle DataWarehouse Builder

    Hi,
I am involved in same project - design of data warehouse.
And I am looking for someone who has any experiance of using Oracle DataWarehouse Builder.
Could one give a review of this tool.
    Thanks.
    MD

It was formerly Pure Integrate. Oracle bought it broke the key pieces down and integrated it into OWB. Very robust match/merge logic.

  • Oracle datawarehouse

I attended the "Data warehouse database design" Oracle course and I saw that the Oracle raccomanded way to design a relational datawarehouse behave the dimensional schema in the constellation configuration.
This configuration allows the creation of both summary fact table and summary dimention table ( that ara dimention with an higher hierarchical level).
It is also suggested the use of Discover.
We tried to use Discover and we saw that we can't use relation in the summary. We also can't share a dimention on differet table.
Is the video31 example the only possible usage of the summary performed by Discoverer ?
Any answare or suggestion is welcome...

I dont think discoverer is a full fledged tool for data warehousing. It may be an efficient one for reporting.
Oracle Express is an excellent tool with plenty of features for data warehosing. If u r looking for a full fledged datawarehouse tool u can try tht.
    good luck

    this, please.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply.
Actually I thought that the OCCI forum was for Object oriented OCI, so while I'm using C++, I'm not using the object oriented side of OCI, just using the normal OCI calls. Guess I should have been a little clearer in my original post.
But my main question really concerned the version of the client and the version of the database which you answered.
    Thanks,
