Oracle DB 11g R2, Services starts automatically against "Manual" mode
Hi guys
For out lab testing, we installed 11g R2(64Bit) on Windows 8 Professional (64Bit) and setup all the Oracle services startup mode as "Manual". However, the following services are restarting itself during a booting(ie, without exclusively starting them!!!!)
dbconsole
listner
Oracle Service
Any explanations?

raj

if services are in manual mode then it will not start automatically.check is there any script running which will start the services at the time of windows startup.

Edited by: Niket Kumar on Dec 10, 2012 12:41 PMHello Niket
I do know that it is not certified, which was the case of 10g while Windows 7 was just launched. We worked on it and MADE it run on Windows 7 machines without having the same issue mentioned in the thread. As far right now, there are no startup scripts facilitating the automatic startup of Oracle services. Oh yeh, I will go ahead and do a re-install to confirm that nothing is wrong place :)

Start camera in manual mode?
whether you can make the camera to start immediately in manual mode?
Topic edited by Rickard
Solved!
Go to Solution. It's not possible when using the camera button but if you tap "Camera" in the app drawer or home screen it will go to Manual if that's what you used last time.

How could I restert Oracle AP / 11g DB service safely ?
I was asked to restart Oracle Insight AP and oracle 11g DB services of win2008R server by daily job.
I guess at first stop Oracle Insight AP related service by net stop command maybe.
And how could I stop and start Oracle 11g DB services of win2008R2 safely ?
It is not RAC environment.

Is it OK to just simply stop Oracle DB related services by net stop command and start by net start command ?840105 wrote:

Service stop.

What does your own testing show?
Be sure to anlayze the db alert log after your test. What you don't want to see is a crash recovery on the startup. That would indicate that a net stop of the db service is effectively a 'shutdown abort', leaving your db in an in-consistent state. You could probably get away with that 1000 times. But the one time you don't get away with it, things will be very painful.
Why were you asked to do this as a daily job?
Oh, yes, it's on Windows. ... where everyone believes that regular weekly reboot is "A Good Thing (tm)" -
After restart Oracle Report Server some reports start automatically to run.
When our report server is restarted always a number of reports are started automatically.
I don't know why these are started automatically?
Is there a avoid starting these reports?Hello,
If you are storing the jobs on the database then please check:
Using the Reports Server Queue PL/SQL Table and API - RW_SERVER_JOB_QUEUE (Doc ID 72531.1)
otherwise just rename the report server .dat files
1- Go to $ORACLE_HOME/reports/server directory
2- Rename Reports Server dat file.
Unix example :
mv reports_server_name.dat reports_server_name.dat.old
3- Try again to start Reports Server
Possible causes of the issue are:
1.scheduled jobs
or
2.restart of report server while some jobs were waiting in the queue

Alex

"Reporting services" service does not start automatically
I have installed reporting services from SQL Express SP1 package. OS is Windows 2000 SP4. Just after installation "Reporting services" service has StartMode=Automatic and LogOnAS=LocalSystem as shown in SQL Server Configuration Manager. When system is rebooted reporting services state is Stopped and there is 2 errors in System log:
1. Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the SQL Server Reporting Services (REPS) service to connect.
2. The SQL Server Reporting Services (REPS) service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
If i select "start" from service's context menu then it starting normally and it's state becomes Running.
What can i do to make reporting services starting automatically on system load?i have the same problem here in one of our servers ,, it was working and suddenly it stopped i don't know why

Windows listener service will not start automatically
I just installed 11.2.0.3 Standard Edition One and when I reboot the server, the listener service is not started. The service is set to start Automatically. I have to login, open services and then push start.
The oraceServiceSId does start automatically,
The listerner service does not start automatically,
The dbconsole service does not start automatically,
The processManger1 service (from middleware) does not start automatically
This is Windows 7 64 bit.
Any ideas?
Edited by: brian.mcginity on Dec 10, 2011 11:25 AMI found where the services logs are recorded in the event viewer. Funny thing just happened, I was just about to do another reboot so I could check the logs when I noticed there were window updates in q.
So after running the updates, the os requested to reboot . For the first time, the services started automatically.
These are the updates which fixes the probem:
Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2639417)
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2618444)
Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2620712)
Cumulative Security Update for ActiveX Killbits for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2618451)

11.1.1.5 Presentation Server won't start automatically
Hi, gurus. Interesting problem with 11.1.1.5. 4 of 5 OBIEE services start automatically. Presentation Server doesn't. An excerpt from sawlog0.log is shown below. What's odd is that even though it fails when starting automatically, we can go into Fusion Middleware and start it manually - no problems there. So it can start, and from that point everything works great, it just won't start along with all of the other services.
Any ideas?

]]Alas, although out-of-sync GUIDs fit all of the clues, that wasn't the answer.
The problem still exists. Here's the relevant portion of the opmn.log file.
These first five sections represent an attempted start of all services in Fusion Middleware by clicking Start All
Request 1fa starts the BI Server successfully.
Request 1fb starts the BI Scheduler successfully.
Request 1fc attempts to start the Presentation Server but fails.
Request 1fd starts the Java Host successfully.
Request 1fe starts the Cluster Controller successfully.
So the Presentation Server will not start automatically as a part of Start All.
However, manually clicking 'Start Selected' for the Presentation Server (request 236 below) starts the service. So the short version is that we can start it manually, but not as a part of Start All.

Oracle Report Server 11g Start Automatically
Dear All
IF you want to start the report server in oracle forms 11g , you must go to this link :
https://localhopst:Port No/reports/rwservlet/startserver
I want to start the report server automatically as windows service without that step .
Thanks in advancedThe following can be used to start the managed server (i.e. WLS_REPORTS). Although this will not start the Reports inProc server, it will get the managed server started. A stand-alone rep server can be monitored by opmn and started automatically. See MyOracleSupport note 1126019.1
Refer to the product documentation for more info about Windows Services and working with WLS Managed Servers.

Db 11G : don't start LISTENER SERVICE in automatic services
I have installed DB 11G but when i restart the server the services named
OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListener
don't start automatically.
I must start it manually!!
What kind of problem is this ??i have found this
The OracleOraDb11g_home2TNSListener service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

Oracle XE Listener Requiring Service To Be Set To 'Automatic (Delayed Start
Can anyone offer any insight/explanation as to why the Oracle Listener would require the service to be set to 'Automatic (Delayed Start)' When it is set to just automatic, it does not even try to start. No output to the listener log, and nothing to the event viewer. It is as if it never even tries to start. Once switched to 'Automatic (Delayed Start)' it works as expected. Additionally if you manually start the service due to it not starting automatically, it works fine as well.
OS: Windows 7 64BIT
Service is being run by the local system account and is set to allow to interact with desktop. -Local system account is part of the administrator group.OS: Windows 7 64BITFirst point, win7 isn't on the 10g XE "supported OS" list. The installer is nearly as old as Firefox 1.0. Not to say folks haven't been able to get it working, plenty of other threads cover that topic.
Delayed start, auto start ... how critical is that functionality for your install? My suggestion, set it to Manual, and if you need the database, start the listener and then start the database service. If the database isn't needed keep your RAM and system resources available for other stuff.
Sorry can't be more helpful (esp. for win7, don't have it, don't use it, same for vista) but XE is more of a "playground" environment for test drives, kicking the tires, etc., a practice resource intended as an introduction to managing an oracle instance.
And always start the listener service first, that allows the database to register with the listener as it completes its startup processing. If startup goes the other way around, the Apex might not be immediately available, but a sqlplus system connection and `alter system register;` command will fix that. -
Howto prevent Oracle XE 11g from start automatically in windows ?
I complete the installation of OraceXE 11g in windows, noticed it start automatically on the next boot. I wonder if there is a way to run a configuration setting to let the application start on boot or not.
Yes I can go to the services and disable, but just wondering if there was a configuration tool to make it easier.
THX Dino.Hello Dino,
you could take a look at the sc.exe, as decribed in this [url http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;251192]MS Knowledge Base Article, e.g.
sc config OracleServiceXE start= demandNote that there really must be a blank between start= and the value for that option.
Simply run this for any Windows service you don't like to start automatically.
The KB-article gives you any additional information you may need.

Oracle 11g XE listener does not start automatically during boot
Hi,
This happened to me recently I just wanted to share it with you.
For development I was running Standard Edition, at some point I decided to run also XE on the same server for another reasons. Everything was working fine, except that after restart of the server, the XE listener is not starting automatically. Debugging the startup script I found that this happens because of a bug in the code, which assumes that XE listener is running if it finds the word LISTENER within the processes list. I didn't found any obligation in the docs for running XE without any other databases on the same host.
In file /etc/init.d/oracle-xe, at line 556 the code is failing:
1 + status='oracle 2889 1 0 May13 ? 00:00:05 /oracle/ora112se/bin/tnslsnr LISTENER -inherit'
2 + '[' 'oracle 2889 1 0 May13 ? 00:00:05 /oracle/ora112se/bin/tnslsnr LISTENER -inherit' == '' ']'
As you can see I have another listener(the one for SE) running and because of the XE startup script found the keyword LISTENER it’s supposing that the XE LISTENER is already running.
To fix this simply change line 556 from:
1 status=`ps -ef | grep tns | grep oracle`
To:
1 status=`ps -ef | grep tns | grep oracle | grep xe`
Now XE listener is started automatically during boot.

Blog: http://sve.to
Twitter: sgyurovI though the same thing, but XE LISTENER is running on localhost and port 1522. On the other hand XE have local_listener explicitly set to the very same connection descriptor. Even XE installation was second on this server.
I've could change that yes, but the startup script doesn't seemed to have this mind.
Regards,
Sve
