Oracle Db 8.1.7.4 to 11gR2

Hi,
We are planning to Upgrade our database to 11g.
Our Middle -tier Techonology is Java 1.4.
We are using Type-4 drivers (Pure Java Impementation) i.e., thin-client where we dont required any oracle Client installed to connect to the Database .
Drivers we use is classes12.jar
All our connectivity is from .xml files.
If we upgrade our db what changes are required at connectivity level? Do we need to make any changes at code level?

Pl post OS version and current database version. You will have to perform a test upgrade on test hardware and then test the application to see if any changes are required

  • Upgrade Oracle database 10.2.1.0 to 11gR2 without upgrading APEX

    Hi,
How can we upgrade Oracle database 10.2.1.0 to 11gR2 without upgrading APEX? We currently have APEX 3.0 running in our 10g databases and don't want these APEX schemas to be upgraded to APEX 3.2.x during the database upgrade. We'll want to test everything before upgrading these APEX schemas manually to 4.1.1 later.
    Thanks.
    Andy

Pretty sure running the 11gR2 catalog upgrade won't touch your apex. Can't speak for using the upgrade utility, never used it.
Windows? Or *nix hosts? On windows fixing the oradim setups are more of challenge.

  • Oracle 9.2.0.6 upgrade to 11gR2

    Hi,
My database is 2TB in size. The database is 9.2.0.6 running on Solaris 8. It is configured with Physical Standby dataguard.
The current plan is to upgrade the database to 11.2.0.3. What will be the best way to do the upgrade? I am thinking on the Logical Standby method.
Is it possible to do logical standby between 9i and 11g?
Can i convert the physical standby database I have now to logical standby and upgrade the database to 11g?
Is there any limitation on logical standby database? eg. data types?
    Regards,
    Manoj Devan

    Hi,
There are two concerns about your upgrade.
Direct upgrade to 11.2.0 is not support from version 9.2.0.6, at least you should be on version 9.2.0.8.
11.2.0.3 is not supported on solris8, at least you should be on OS version - Solaris 10.

  • Oracle Database 11gR1 32-bit upgrade to 11gr2 64-bit

    Hello All,
My current server is having following configuration:
    OS               : RHEL 4.6 32 bit
    Product         : Oracle EBS 11i
    DB               : 11gR1
    Target machine:
    OS               : RHEL 5.8 64 bit
I want to convert my current single node EBS 11i to multi-node (two node) architecture. We have to migrate our 11gR1 over 64 bit machine.
I was trying to create create a 32 bit instance over new target server through rapid clone. But it is not supported to install 32 bit 11g over 64 bit OS, so I am now taking new path to do the same, trying to upgrade 11gR1 32 bit database directly to 11gr2 64 bit. Please suggest me appropriate procedure to perform it. Any Oracle Document over the same would be wonderful. I tried to search over Metalink but with no success.
Kindly share your experience if anyone here performed the same or similar.
    Regards
    RanjanS

You can get 11gR1 64-bit download this way:
    Previous Database Release Software
Oracle Database 10.2 and 11.1 are no longer available for download. The software is available as a media or FTP request for those customers who own a valid Oracle Database product license for any edition.
To request access to these releases, follow the instructions in Oracle Support Document 1071023.1 (Requesting Physical Shipment or Download URL for Software Media) from My Oracle Support.
NOTE: for Oracle Database 10.2, you should request 10.2.0.1 even if you want to install a later patch set. Once you install 10.2.0.1 you can then apply any 10.2 patch set. Similarly, for 11.1 request 11.1.0.6 which must be applied before installing 11.1.0.7. Patch sets can be downloaded from the Patches and Updates tab on My Oracle Support.
And about direct upgrade I have done that successfully for minor versions for example 11.1.0.6 to 11.1.0.7 so that might be possible also for 11.1. to 11.2 .

  • Using Oracle 11gR1 OID to control access to 11gR2 RAC database ?

I have a two 11gR2 RAC Node database that I would like to implement Oracle 11gR1 OID to manage all access to the RAC database.
Should I install and configure Oracle 11gR1 OID into the same RAC database to control access to the RAC database? Is this the appropriate approach?
Please share your ideas... I couldn't make it to Openword to ask this type of question.

    Hi,
I think there is some confusion here. OID doesnt protect your database. All OID is doing is taking the authentication of the user and authorization (privileges) of the user to OID and out of the database. This way you can centralize the management of all user accounts in one place and not worry about it in the database. This is helpful only if you have many databases. If you have a very small number of databases and small number of user accounts, then OID is not really buying you anything. The best practices is published in the oracle docs. Just that you have to read a lot to figure it all out. Here are some info from our installation.
    1. weblogic and oid application is installed on a application server
    2. Repository database is a independant database (not shared with other apps) in a shared RAC cluster.
    3. Replication (OID application replication) setup between a primary oid server and a secondary oid server in the DR site
    4. Load balancer configured to point to the primary server and if primary server is not available, point the connection to secondary server
    5. DIP configured to pull all users and groups from active directory
    6. Password filter installed on all DC's to capture passwords and ship it to oid.
    7. Users creation, modification, deletion, expiry, etc., is all controlled on active directory.
    8. Database registered with OID for user authentication and authorization
For protecting you data, you will need to use additional security methods/products like :
    1. Database vault (to prevent privileged users from operating on the data)
    2. Database auditing
    3. Fine-grained access control
    4. table level policies
    5. Fine-grained auditing (column level)
    6. Audit vault (to consolidate all audit records to a central place for auditors to classify and research each audit event)
    7. operational/process to enforce security.
    Good luck :-).

    Shaji.

  • Differences between oracle 10gr2 and 11gr2 warehouse bulider

    Hi All,
Could you please let me know the main differences between Oracle 10gr2 and Oracle 11gR2 warehouse builder.
Also , it would be great if anyone point me to the document where i can see the major differences.
    Thanks,
    Naveen.

    Hi Naveen,
The major difference between OWB10gR2 and 11gR2 is the target RDBMS.
In 10gR2 you have to use ORACLE as your target RDBMS (unless you are going for DB Gateways, that is a complete different story).
Where as in 11gR2 allows you to use any RDBMS as your target system . This is achieved by Code-Template mapping.
All is needed is that proper jdbc driver for the target system.
Also 11gR2 supports OBIEE RPD creation and etc.

  • Cannot find Oracle HTTP Server in 11gR2

I'm unable to find the Oracle HTTP Server components in the new 11gR2 release for Windows.
    Where can I find it?

You want the Oracle Fusion Middleware Web Tier Utilities 11g download.
Go to the database download page:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/index.html
Locate the operating system you want and click the "See All" link for that OS.
In the resulting page, look for the Oracle Fusion Middleware Web Tier Utilities download link, which will contain Oracle HTTP server version 11.1.1, which is the most recent one matching 11GR2 database.

  • Is it possible to install Oracle 11gR2   on a Win 7 64b Home edition comp?

If so how can I? If not, why? Frustrating

Windows Home versions are not certified for Oracle installs - so, no you cannot.
    You have two options
    1. Upgrade to a supported OS listed in the Install Guide - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24186/reqs.htm#CHDHGGFE
    2. Install VM software (such as VirtualBox, free install from http://www.virtualbox.org), then download and install Oracle Linux 5.7 (free from http://linux.oracle.com) in the VM, then install 11gR2 in the Linux VM (Install Guide at http://www.oracle.com/pls/db112/portal.portal_db?selected=11&frame=)

  • Installation of Oracle 11g 32 bit Client on Windows 7 (32 bit) laptop.

    Hi,
I just got a new Laptop with Windows 7 (32 bit) operating system.
Has any one successfully installed Oracle 11g client on in Windows 7 environment and if so what are the steps involved.
In the past I have never had any trouble installing an Oracle client on a Windows work station.
    Thanks,

  • APEX on Oracle XE PDF printing produces: Format error: not a PDF or corrupted.

Dear fellow Apexers and Oracle Gurus,
    I have the following configuration:
    Oracle XE 11gR2
    APEX 4.2.3.00.08
    Listener 2.0.5
On this setup I can create workspaces and applications as I please.
Now I want to print a PDF report.
I have set up PDF printing to "Oracle Listener" in the "manage Instance" settings in the instance administration.
I have created a classical report on the EMPLOYEES table (Select * from EMPLOYEES)
and enabled PDF printing in the "Printing" area of the "Print Attributes" of the page.
When I run the page I do get the "print" link on the bottom of the page.
Clicking the link does produce a .PDF but showing this file triggers an error in my PDF reader: Format error: not a PDF or corrupted.
Opening the .PDF file in a text editor reveals the corrupt content.
    %PDF-1.4
    %ª«¬
    Unknown function: gatherContextInfo
The same setup works fine and produces the expected PDF file with the report on the following configuration:
    Oracle Vbox with Developer days image;
    DB 11gR2
    Upgraded to apex 4.2.3.00.08
    Listener 2.0.5
Since the PDF shows "unknown function" I suspected the XE configuration to lack some of the necessary rights, maybe I forgot to configure the ACLs correctly.
So I compared the ACL info on both configurations. Alas,.. on both machines they return the same result..
    SQL> SELECT * FROM DBA_NETWORK_ACLS
    HOST         LOWER_PORT    UPPER_PORT    ACL
    localhost    null          null           /sys/acls/local-access-users.xml
    *            null          null           /sys/acls/power_users.xml
    SQL> select * from dba_network_acl_privileges
    ACL                                  PRINCIPAL      PRIVILEGE   IS_GRANT    INVERT
    /sys/acls/local-access-users.xml     APEX_040200    connect     true        false
    /sys/acls/power_users.xml            APEX_040200    connect     true        false
Anyone any idea why this works fine on the Vbox and not on the local XE configuration?
Any hint or answer as to where the problem might be is appreciated
    TIA
    Wouter

I'm having the same issue. I'm using Oracle XE 11gR2 as well. I've tried with APEX 4.2.2 and APEX 4.2.4. I have set up the Oracle Listener in instance settings and set the report to print and I have the same result as you. Have you had any progress yet?
    Thanks

  • R0 Rollback Segment in Import of 10gR2 into 11gR2 Database

I have a new install of Oracle Database Server Enterprise Edition 11.2.0.3.6 on AIX 7.1.
I used the DBCA to create two databases and used export datapump and import datapump to upgrade two 10gR2 database to 11gR2.
One of the import logs includes the following messages:
    Processing object type DATABASE_EXPORT/ROLLBACK_SEGMENT
ORA-39083: Object type ROLLBACK_SEGMENT failed to create with error:
ORA-02221: invalid MAXEXTENTS storage option value
    Failing sql is:
    CREATE ROLLBACK SEGMENT "R0" TABLESPACE "SYSTEM" STORAGE(INITIAL 131072 NEXT 131072 MINEXTENTS 2 MAXEXTENTS 2147483645)
I verified that the source database has R0 with maxextents of 2147483645.
I can copy and modify the CREATE ROLLBACK statement and lower the value assigned to MAXEXTENTS, or use MAXEXTENTS UNLIMITED, then run the command in the target database.
In light of the fact that the DBCA did not create R0 in my two 11gR2 databases, I want to know if I still need to create R0 in the one that showed the error in the import log. Has anyone else noticed the disappearance of R0?
Here are the rollback segments that exist in the 11gR2 database at this time:

  • 11gR2: Message state after dequeue in AQ$ queue_table view

    Dear all,
we are in the process of migrating from 10gR2 to 11gR2 and encountered the following problem.
We send messages over an advanced queue to 1 to n recipients.
After dequeuing the message we query the AQ$<queue_table> view to determine if the specified message is processed by all recipients (msg_state should be 'PROCESSED' in my opinion).
This worked fine in Oracle 10g (and 9i).
In our 11gR2 (11.2.0.1) test system we encounter now the problem that the message still has the msg_state 'READY' in the AQ$<queue_table> view after dequeuing the message (we encounter that behaviour with one recipient).
After a bit of trying we also found out that the view shows the (in my opinion correct) msg_state 'PROCESSED' after committing the transaction. But we query the view right after the dequeue in the same procedure, so I hope also the same transaction :).
Please find following the enqueue and dequeue options we use:
The enqueue options are the default ones, we make no changes:
    ENQ_OPT DBMS_AQ.ENQUEUE_OPTIONS_T;
Here the dequeue options that we set:
    DEQ_OPT DBMS_AQ.DEQUEUE_OPTIONS_T;
deq_opt.consumer_name := agent_name; -- This is correct, we definitely get the message
    deq_opt.dequeue_mode := dbms_aq.REMOVE;
    deq_opt.wait := 2;
    deq_opt.navigation := dbms_aq.FIRST_MESSAGE;
deq_opt.correlation := p_order_id; -- This must also be correct as we get the correct message (It also happens if only one message is in the queue)
This is how we determine the state of the message:
    SELECT count(*)
    INTO msg_count
    FROM aq$test_qt
    WHERE corr_id = p_order_id
    AND msg_state != 'PROCESSED';
Maybe we overlooked some changes between 10g and 11g. We would be thankful for every hint.
    Thanks in advance
    Hansi

    Hi!
    Thanks for your tips.
Yes, I reread the documentation for 11gR2 and I couldn't find a change that could lead to a change in this behaviour.
It states regarding the visibility attribute of the dequeue options:
"ON_COMMIT: The dequeue will be part of the current transaction. This setting is the default."
I think we will now go on with installing patch set 11.2.0.2.
    Thanks again
    Hansi

  • OBIEE Vs MDX Provider for Oracle OLAP

    Hi Gurus,
We need to present to customer a comparison between OBIEE 10.1.3.4 and SIMBA´S "MDX Provider for Oracle OLAP" to attack OLAP Cubes in 11gR2.
Of course OBIEE is more powerful and complete, but technically, we would like to know which OBIEE capabilities (apart from ibots, scheduling, hability of representing information) are not available or cant´t be utilized from SIMBA´s Sw.
Are there known limitations of MDX Provider for Oracle OLAP?
Is it truth that in the new OBIEE release the Microsoft Office add in is going to be more powerfull or is it going to remain the same?
Thanks in advance for your answers,
