Oracle Designer Web Assistant for 6i

Hi,
Will there be an ODWA for Designer 6i available through OTN? Is there and estimated time for its availabilty?
Thanks in advance,
Beatriz.

Beatriz,
Currently there are no plans to make ODWA 6i available on OTN. ODWA 6i will be part of a new tools suite that you will be able to buy through Oracle Consulting. News about this suite will become available during the next month or so.

Sandra

Jim,
Sorry for taking so long before replying to your question.
It is a problem we have seen before and the solution is quite simple.
* Open the file ODWA_HOME\ddl\cdwp_brw.pkb
* Locate the procedure browser
* Change the following fragment from:
===================================
htp.frame
( csrc =>'cdwp_brw.tree_plus_selector?p_el_id='
to_char(p_el_id)| |
chr(38)
, cname=> 'selector'
============================================
in:
===================================
htp.frame
( csrc =>'cdwp_brw.tree_plus_selector?p_el_id='
to_char(p_el_id)
, cname=> 'selector'
============================================
in other words: remove "| |chr(38)
This shoudl do the trick.
Please let me know whether this helped!

• Oracle Designer Web Assistant

Hi,
How do I acquire Oracle Designer Web Assistant 6i.
Thanks,
Daren.

Note that starting with Designer 6i version 4.6 onwards, the ODWA has been incorporated into Designer and is called Repository Object Browser (ROB).
Please review the release notes, online documentation and the Designer OTN site for further information.

• Designer Web Assistant for 9i?

Is there a version of Designer Web Assistant available that will work with 9i?

David,
The version released for Designer 6i (6.5.0.16) will work with Designer 9i as well. Furthermore, in an imminent release of Oracle Designer 9i, the Oracle Designer Web Assistant will be incorporated as Repository Object Browser.

• Oracle Database Migration Assistant for Unicode (DMU) is now available!

Oracle Database Migration Assistant for Unicode (DMU) is a next-generation GUI migration tool to help you migrate your databases to the Unicode character set. It is free for customers with database support contracts. The DMU is built on the same GUI platform as SQL Developer and JDeveloper. It uses dedicated RDBMS functionality to scan and convert a database to AL32UTF8 (or to the deprecated UTF8, if needed for some reasons). For existing AL32UTF8 and UTF8 databases, it provides a validation mode to check if data is really encoded in UTF-8. Learn more about the tool on its OTN pages.
There is a new Database Migration Assistant for Unicode. We encourage you to post all questions related to the tool and to the database character set migration process in general to that forum.
Thanks,
The DMU Development Team

HI there!
7.6.03 ? Why do you use outdated software for your migration.
At least use 7.6.06 or 7.7.07 !
About the performance topic - well, you've to figure out what the database is waiting for.
Activate time measurement, activate the DBanalyzer with a short snapshot interval (say 120 or 60 seconds) and check what warnings you get.
Also you should use the parameter check to make sure that you don't run into any setup-induced bottlenecks.
Apart from these very basic prerequisites for the analysis of this issue, you may want to check
SAP Note 1464560 FAQ: R3load on MaxDB
Maybe you can use some of the performance features available in the current R3load versions.
regards,
Lars

Hi There,
We would like to inform you that you have got the serial number for Mac, it would not work on Mac machine as it is OS specific.
If you wish you use a mac machine that you can swap the platform please refer the below mentioned link.

• Designer Web Assistant and WebDB

We require assistance with linking WebDB to Web Assistant. We are new to the WebDB and the install instructions provided by the Web Assistant download are unclear about the finer points of connecting to the webdb listener. We are using Designer 2.1.2, WebDB 2.1 and Oracle 8.0.5, on a Unix Server, under Windows NT.
Problem:
When the homepage URL (odwa/odwa.cdwp.startup) is requested, using our ODWA id, the following error message is returned: component 'INIT_CGI_ENV' must be declared and identifier 'WWV_DOCLOAD.IS_FILE_DOWNLOAD' must be declared.
To date:
1) WebDB is installed on the Unix server which holds the Designer repository.
2) ODWA id has been created and granted access according to the grant script provided in the download for Web Assistant.
3) The ODWA ddl files have been moved to the server as \orant\odwa\ddl\* and recompiled.
4) The ODWA gif files have been moved to the server as \orant\odwa\images\* and a virtual directory has been added to the Listener Settings as /odwa_images/.
5) A new DAD was created called ODWA, pointing to the repository. The other parameters have not altered our problem and were removed.
6) Web Assistant was previously installed and evaluated as a static client and looks like a very valuable tool. But we require the flexibilty and simplicity of the dynamic approach.
Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you.

Anne,
Can you run WebDB itself? (create WebDB modules user the WebDB database browser)?
Did you create public synonyms for all database objects in the OAS_PUBLIC schema (these objects constitute the OAS Web PL/SQL Toolkit; packages such as HTF, HTP and OWA_UTIL should be in this schema)? Did you grant execute privileges on these objects to PUBLIC? (you can test this by connecting to SQL*PLUS and typing: desc htp <enter>.
If this returns a long list of procedure headings, this is probably okay. To be sure, type 'drop package htp' to remove an accidentally installed local instance of this package. If this statement does indeed drop a package, you must ensure no OAS_PUBLIC objects are installed in the ODWA schema.
The last error message you describe: procedure returned no data, could have the following cause: you call ODWA properly but the cdwp package in ODWA writes data to the wrong HTP package. The data returned by the WebDB listener is read from a buffer inside the HTP package (the one that is accessible to the WebDB listener). However, if ODWA writes to another package and therefore another buffer, WebDB listener cannot find any data to return.
To reduce confusion, it is best to make sure the database contains only one HTP package (as well as only one instance of the other objects in the Web PL/SQl Toolkit).

• Differences between Headstart Oracle Designer and Headstart for Apps

Hello,
I would like to know where i can find an online demonstration of the product "Headtsart for Apps 11i" ?
I have found the online demonstration of the product "Headtsart Oracle Designer" at the url :
http://otn.oracle.com/products/headstart/headstartdemo_viewlet.html
I would like to compare the functionalities of these two products (the tabs option for example).
For a new application, we have the choice between "Headstart for apps"+"Oracle Application" environment or "Headstart Oracle Designer" alone.
If no demonstration exists, could you tell me the difference between these two products (i have understood that one run under OA and the other run alone) ?

Hi,
Headstart for Apps and Headstart Oracle Designer are based on the same idea, and therefore there are many similarties between the two. The main differences are:
* the look and feel
Headstart for Apps is used to generate Oracle Form screens with the same look and feel as a standard Oracle Application screen. Headstart Oracle Designer has its own look and feel.
Headstart for Apps also enables/eases some Oracle Applications specific look and feel features (although Headstart Oracle Designer has also adopted some of these).
* dependency of Oracle Applications
Forms generated with Headstart for Apps cannot run outside the Oracle Applications framework. You will use the same security mechanism as for an Oracle Applications form, the same messaging system, and you can use the standard Oracle Applications built ins.
Headstart Oracle Designer runs completely outside the Oracle Applications framework, there is a separate messaging system, and you cannot use the Oracle Applications built ins.
Hope this helps!

• Oracle designer web application: NO DATA FOUND if no record returned

Hi, Friends:
We use oracle designer 6i to generate web applicaion. Is there methods to popup message box like 'NO DATA FOUND' when click search or submit button from screen?Oracle web server generator automatically generate lots packages and functions like function QueryHits, it returns the number of record, my question is how can I catch this paremeter from designer module or module components before code generation? what kind parameter do I need to define and passe to Designer so that Oracle web server generator knows this parameter at generating time or run time?
Thanks
Brian

For displaying messages you can use On-Message trigger attached to the form. In the Forms on-line help you can find also a good example - "On-Message Trigger" topic.
In Designer this trigger is created at module level (Application logic-Events).
I hope this will help you.

• Trouble downloading CS6 Design & Web Premium for Mac

When trying to download the instructions using the Download Manager, I get an "inactive plug-in" message even after installing the Java plugin and restarting the browser.  If I try the other option, I get a foreign language. Can anyone help?

Not sure from where are you actually downloading the application and using which browser.
Which OS do you have?
Try downloading CS6 from the below link using a different browser and check.

• Designer Web Assistant with iAS

Hi,
Anyone using ODWA with the new iAS (not OAS) listener? I've got it working except for the virtual directory mapping for the gifs.
The install instructions are excellent, but not for this version of iAS. I've tried different combinations for the Path Aliasing, but this seems to be more for DB stored logic than physical directories.
TIA,
Gary Wong

Hi,
Found the answer and wanted to share it...
Edit jserv.conf, and put:
Alias /odwa_images/ "E:\OraNT\odwa\gif/"
Where E:\OraNT is your <OracleHome>. I remembered that the listener is now just
straight Apache.
Cheers,

• Designing Web applications for better performance

Hi,
Let me explain the scenario.
We are following MVC architecture, where we have our JSP pages interacting with a controller
servlet , which decides what action to performed . It is using request despatcher method to redirect
the request object to jsp pages.
We have most of jsp pages as entry screens. We are not using java beans, fearing the complexity of master
details forms . ( we dont know how to use "bean technolagy" in case of detail entry screens).
In forms at a time we can have max 50 rows , with each row having 10 columns. When a particular page
need to be displayes for editing (may be with already existing data), the servlet will populate objects
and jsp will access data from these objects. Once the data is accessed , these objects will be removed
from the session.
Since we are removing the objects from the session (not keeping it certain amount of time too), if the
servlet /another jsp requires some information, we are forced to use "hidden variables". In the current
scenario, we are having at least 40-50 hidden variables passing from a jsp page to servlet.
We decided not to use session objects fearing that it will give lot of problem to server. But now it
is making our client "fat".
Eventhogh our application is big, we are not using any database side coding like triggers,stored procedures
etc? Is this create performance problems?
When our application runs, many times we can find that the request will not get processed correctly
in jrun sever or some times we gets blank window or some time jrun default server hangs.
we are using Jrun 3.0 and Solaris_JDK_1.2.2_05.
Pl. find my following questions.
1. is this right way to do the things (hidden variables).
2. Is creating session variables is going to hamper the performance of the system?

Dear sandhyavk,
From my experience, you are better to put your hidden values into a JavaBean, simply a data object which is saved in a session, after you have accessed to it, you simply invalidate the session indeed. You can find more details from the following links from javaworld.com, I have adopted and amended it for my eIPO system, it is flexible and easy to maintain and understand.
* http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-01-2001/jw-0119-jspframe.html
* http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-01-2001/jw-0119-jspframe.html
I do hope that it can give you some ideas.

Hi Srini,
           The issue is resolved. Thanks for your response.
        The issue is, windows 2003 server is 32 bit and I am trying to install 64 bit 11g database. I tried installing 32 bit 11g database. Before that I have cleared the traces of virtual box in my host system and reinstalled it and tried. It worked out.
Thanks
Sunil
