Oracle Discoverer 3.1.36 against DB2?

Can I run the client Oracle Dis product against DB2-UDB on S390 platform without having the server side of Oracle Dis up and running? Are the two products required to get the client to run?

Welcome to the forums !
TNS-12154 is a generic connect error. Pl post details of your architecture - where is the 10g database installed, where is Disco 3.1.36 installed etc
There should be a tnsnames.ora file where Disco 3.1.36 is installed, and it should have an entry pointing to the 10g database.

  • Oracle Discoverer Administrator not installed with FMW 11.1.1.6 on windows 7 64 bit machine

    Hi,
Recently I install the Oracle FMW 11.1.1.6 with Oracle Forms, Reports and Discoverer , 11g database and RCU successfully on windows7 64bit machine. I can able to access the Forms, Reports, Discoverer Plus and viewer thorugh URl successfully.
But I'm not able to see the Oracle Discoverer Adminstrator to create the EUL for creating the connection though the Oracle Discoverer Plus it's give me the error "You do not have access to any End User Layer tables".
I have also run the Repository Creation Utility against 11g R2 database which created a DEV_DISCOVERER schema.
I don't how to create the End User Layer tables.
These are the two URl I found after the installation for the discoverer:
       Discoverer Viewer URL: http://localhost:8888/discoverer/viewer
       Discoverer Plus URL    : http://localhost:8888/discoverer/plus
    Thanks in Advance

Did you mean to say 11.1.1.2 and not 11.1.2?
11.1.2 works fine on Windows 7 (64 bit).
11.1.1.2 does not support windows 7 (64 bit). 11.1.1.3.01 was released a fews weeks back that supports windows 7 (64 bit).Hi Toufic,
    Yup, i mean hyperion 11.1.2..
Now, the smartview has been successfully installed in my system. First, i tried to uninstall the my smartview and delete all registry that point to my smartview. and then i tried to re-install the smartview version 11.1.2, and now, it's work.
    Thanks Toufic..

  • Oracle Discoverer 4.1 to Oracle Discoverer11g  EUL migration steps

    Hi
WE SUCCESSFULLY upgraded Discoverer 3.1 to 4.1 EUL against Oracle 8i DB.
Also  exported all EUL4 objects and imported the same to 11gr2 Db.
But when we try to upgrade from Oracle BI 11g Discoverer Admin by connecting against the imported EUL4 schema in 11g
DB we get the default message that 3.1 has to be upgraded to 4.1 using Discoverer 4i and then use this release to upgrade 4i EUL.
Not sure what I am doing wrong here when the 3.1 to 4.1 is already completed and 4.1 EUL also already imported in 11g database.
Am I missing any step here.
    Kindly advise on this issue.
    Thanks
    Nirmal.

Discoverer 10g uses EUL5-tables, so after an upgrade you'll have 2 EUL's, one with EUL4 and one with EUL5-tables.Users who'll have the Discoverer 4i desktop will connect to the old EUL, while the Discoverer 10g desktop will connect to the new EUL. So, it's best to remove (or disable) your old EUL, otherwise you'll have 2 EUL's to support.

  • Oracle Discoverer Ver. 4.1.44

    Hi,
Can someone please direct me to the specific install kit I need in to install Oracle Discoverer 4.1.44?
    Thanks,
    Nir

Discoverer is a part of Oracle Business Intelligence.
Discoverer 10g has been available for two versions now:
    OracleAS Discoverer 10g (v9.0.4)
    and
OracleAS Discoverer 10g (10.1.2). This is also known as Oracle Discoverer 10g R2 (10.1.2).
When installing Discoverer as part of the full application server install, the product is called Oracle Application Server Discoverer, whereas when you install it in a standalone mode with Oracle Business Intelligence, it is called Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer. Irrespective of this, the product name itself remains unchanged as Oracle Discoverer.
Oracle Discoverer is certified against Oracle database 9i as well as 10g.
You need to download Discoverer to use it against either of these two database versions. Which you can if you go to Oracle.com/technology and follow the product download links.
It doesn't matter what database you use, Oracle products can be used against the latest version of the database, and for the time being against the 9i version also (with a few exceptions).

  • How to Create three dimentional graph using Oracle Discoverer

    Hi,
How can I plot four numeric values against the time period using three axes in oracle discoverer. e.g. If I want to plot unit cost, total cost, total sale, and total profit for a given period. I am using oracle discoverer 10.1.2.0.0
    Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks

What is the one message you are trying to get your graph to convery? Personally, I think the key thing is to keep it simple, just because your data has many dimensions it does mean that you should overload users with information. I would stick to a simple dual aixs combo graph where total cost and total sales are shown as bars against Y1 and total profit is shown as a line against Y2.
You have total cost so adding unit cost is unlikely to provide additional information and it just adds clutter and confusion to your graph.
One graph type that might help provide a more powerful message is the bubble-chart which is used to perform quadrant analysis. We have provided a smalla rticl on the benefits of using bubble graphs on the BI Blog:

  • Oracle Discoverer Desktop Report output showing unicode characters

    Hi,
Oracle Discoverer Desktop 4i version Report output showing the below unicode characters.
    kara¿ah L¿MAK HOLD¿NG A.¿
We ran the same query in sql at that time the data showing correctly.
Please let me know, is there any language settings/ NLS settings are need to set
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi
Let me give you some background. In the Windows registy, every Oracle Home has a setting called NLS_LANG. This is the variable that controls, among other things, the numeric characters and the language used. The variable is made up of 3 parts. These are:
    language_territory.characterset
Notice how there is an underscore character between the first two variables and a period between the last two. This is very important and must not be changed.
So, for example, most American settings look like this: AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252
The second variable, the territory, controls the default date, monetary, and numeric formats and must correspond to the name of a country. So if I wanted to use the Greek settings for numeric formatting, editing the NLS_LANG for Discoverer Desktop to this setting will do the trick:
    AMERICAN_GREECE.WE8MSWIN1252
Can you please check your settings? Here's a workflow:
    a) Open up your registry by running Regedit
    b) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE
    c) Look for the Oracle Home corresponding to where Discoverer Desktop is installed. It's probably called KEY_BIToolsHome_1
    d) Clicking on the Oracle Home will display all of the variables
    e) Take a look at the variable called NLS_LANG - if it is correct Exit the registry
    f) If its not correct please right-click on it and from the pop-up select Modify
    f) Change the variable to the right setting
    g) Click the OK button to save your change
    h) Exit the registry
    Best wishes

  • Oracle Discoverer - Export report as PDF

Using Oracle Discoverer Desktop 10.1.2.1 with Adobe 7 installed. We do not see an option to export as a PDF file. It was my understanding this should be an option. Is there a way to add PDF as an export option?

    Hi,
You cannot export to PDF from Discoverer Desktop, however, you can use Discoverer to print to the Adobe PDF Converter print device which will generate the Discoverer report in PDF format.

  • Creating a new workbook in Oracle Discoverer

I am not very familiar with Oracle Discoverer but have had to be involved in it recently. What i am trying to do is create a new business area. I logged on to the Oracle Discoverer administrator and followed these steps
    - Create a new business area from online dictionary
    - Selected the schema user
    - Selected the tables/views i wanted to include in the business area
    - Click finish
Now i have included the tables in the business area. When the user logs on to Oracle Discoverer he can see the 3 tables/views i selected. If they try to create a new workbook they can only include one of the tables in the workbook but not all 3 at the same time. If i include one table, the other two tables become 'disabled' and cannot be included in the workbook.
Any ideas why this is happening?

    Hi ziggy
It sounds like you did not create any joins between the 3 folders. Those have to be in place in order for a user to be able to create reports from more than one folder.
If you are new to Discoverer administration I would suggest you get some training. Oracle offer great training at numerous locations around the country and there are numerous self-help locations that you can find if you plus Discoverer Training into any Google search box.
My company also has e-learning for Discoverer and you can find out more by visiting this website: http://ascbi.com

  • Creation of a Custom Folder in Oracle Discoverer Administration Edition

    Hi
Could anybody help me in solving this problem while creating a Custom Folder in Oracle Discoverer Administration Edition ?
    My Requirement is :
I Connect to EUL_US/EUL_US@<HOST_STRING> under Oracle Discoverer Administration Edition.
I selected a Pre-Defined Business Area Eg. General Ledger
There i created a Custom Folder by Name Test Custom Folder
The Query which i used in my Custom Folder is
    SELECT NAME FROM GL.GL_JE_BATCHES
When i Used this Query it says Table or view does not exist.
The Folder is getting created but without a Query.
I am not able to preceed further.
    Any Help would be appreciated
    Regards
    Nakul Venkataraman

Hi Nakul, you may be running into a problem with the sql for your custom folder. For some reason Discoverer Admin will allow you to create a custom folder with sql, but then if you change it and it has any advanced sql, i.e. grouping sets, analytic functions etc., you probably receive an error.
An option is to create a view using the same sql and create a folder from the database using this view.
    Hope this helps.
    Brent.

  • Differences between  Oracle Discoverer 10g and 11g (EBS & Desktop)

We are in the process of upgrading from Oracle Discoverer 10g testing to Oracle Discoverer 11g.
We have had several requests (from functional users) for documentation that might reflect the changes in this release level. Does anyone have relevant documentation that might help explain what has changed so that they can be better prepared.

We are in the process of going from 10 desktop to 11 plus. I do not like it as other end-users I have talked to don't either. In desktop, I could have multiple reports open at one time, move tabs from one report to another so I wouldn't have to rebuild the report again. Also, there are times I have 3 or more sessions of desktop running with multiple reports running in them. In plus, I am limited to one session and one report. That slows down productivity big time. In desktop, exporting crosstabs to excel is more user friendly than plus. For desktop, it will fill in the cells below with the data above it if it changes. In plus, it looks like a pivot table. I have read other posts on how to work around that, but not always functional. Using Dense_Rank() works sometimes depending on how the report is written. IT is researching another way but haven't heard back from the consultants. Or, I will have to modify all my excel files with formulas to do that for me. Also in desktop, I can select all and copy paste the results into excel and all data comes in. The row and column headers, page items and even the title section will paste into excel. Plus only gives you the data, no row or column headers. So I have to export it every time I need the data. I have formatted excel files that all I need to do is copy paste and data flows beautifully. As for organizing and saving reports, desktop is much better. I can save reports out on our network under different folders so I can find them faster by topic. Granted, if that directory is an open one, anyone can change/delete it. In plus, the only advantage of saving it on the database is I can sort and search for reports or users. If you make any changes in plus and then walk away from your desk, plus will shut down after a certain time period. If you didn't save it, you have to start over. Don't know if this is something IT can fix???
As we see it, plus is a step back in technology. I hope someone can change that opinion. Don't know if we are not getting the best support from whoever is working with us (Oracle or 3rd party) or we are missing something???? If so, please share.
    Thanks.

  • Connect to Oracle Discoverer window does not appear

    Hi,
The Web based Oracle Discoverer 4i does not work properly on my system. I first connect my Microsoft IE to the URL. One the URL there is magnifier icon. Under this icon there is a lable of "Click the image above to start".
I click this icon and another window pup up. The top left corner of this window shows "Oracle Discoverer" title. Under this title bar are the menu items. The menu items are File,Edit,Sheet, tools, Graph & Help from left to right. The bottom left corner shows "Loading...". But the "Connect to Oracle Discoverer" window never pups up.
If I connect my browser to another URL I can get "Connect to Oracle Discoverer " window displayed and log into database.
What is wrong with my first server?
    Thanks for help.
    Wallace

I'm only guessing, but I've had similar problems in a few cases with the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine. Try getting Discoverer to run with a different JVM, like Oracle Jinitiator.

  • How can I set the Corporate Logo instead of Oracle Discoverer logo in 10g

    Hi,
How can I set the corporate logo/corporate welcom html file instead of oracle discoverer logo in oracle discoverer plus for olap reports version 10.1.2.48.18. while loading the d4o sessions.
Exactly what are all the steps that I need to follow .
    Thanks,
    Natarajan.U

    Hi Lance,
Thanks for the documents. Its really helpful to me.
I am able to change the look and feel of my reports. But I am unable to change the corporate logo.
    The steps that I followed.
    1.Goto discoverer Plus configruation.
2.Goto Logo change the option button from None to File and Choosed the .jpg file from C:\Logos.
    3.Restarted the application server.
4.Open the BI plus reports in IE. But still I am seeing the same Oracle Logo only.
5.But whatever the look and feel like plastic/system/oracle I changed I am able to see the changes.
6.The logo change is not as simple as I thought??. I need to create Jar on this logo and I need to put the jar file in java /j2ee directory???.
    Thanks,

  • Correlation in Oracle Discoverer

    Hi,
I know how to calculate correlation in Oracle discoverer plus using calculations but is there a way for us to give the users the ability to drag drop the variable they want to see the correlation between in viewer. So for example if the user wanted to see the correlation between SAT scores and age they could just select the variables somehow and see the correlation between them.
    Thanks

There is no straight forward way but one possible solution:
    1.
Create a folder in the eul that contains two columns
    1) a dummy column
    2) a LOV column
    I usually do this with a query SELECT 'dummy' as joiner, 'LOV ITEM' as lov_item from dual union....;
    2.
create a LOV on the LOV Item column
    3.
create a join between the new table and another table in the workbook
    4.
create 2 parameters based on the lov item column (do not create a condition with the parameter)
    5. create a calculation that calculation that well correlate two items based on the values of the parameters
    6. remove the new table from the workbook. The new table will not affect how many rows are returned but the parameters still look at the LOV table.
