Oracle Discoverer and OLAP

Hi,
I want to know whether Discoverer 9i (component of Oracle Application Server 9iAS ) can fetch data from Oracle 9i OLAP.
Or it an upcoming feature in 10g?
Thanks and Regards,
Roshini.

  • Difference between Oracle Discoverer and ReportsBuilder

    Hi Everybody,
I have a question concerning the differences between the two reporting solutions offered by Oracle : Oracle Discoverer Desktop and Oracle Reports Developer.
I am wondering if both of them support OLAP data, if they allow reports publishing (through a web server) and if they have an SDK kit.
Should we prefer one solution over another or each one has its own domain of use
    Thanks for your answer

    hi lee,
discoverer is an end-user based tool for querying data. basically
an administrator prepares an environment that the end-user can
easily select his query without knowing anything about the technologies.
discoverer is available on the web (iAS) as well as on client/server (iDS).
reports is a powerful enterprise reporting tool which provides the
end-user a ready to use reports. basically a reports developer can
base a report on any datasource and you can get the output in any format
you like. report has open api's and powerfurl frameworks to extend the
out of the box functionality. you can design reports for paper based
reporting to produce output or you can design reports for the web.
reports is capable of dealing with mass data and for that fully scalable.
this was just a high level introduction.
find much more information about the product on OTN

  • Discoverer and OLAP

Do discoverer 9i support oracle 9i OLAP? If I don't want to build OLAP application with BI bean. Because it is too complicated. How can I do that?
    Thanks
    Winson

    Hi
I'm not sure if I can answer all your questions, but this is how we do it. We tried BI beans and found it to complicated to start with, so we decided to use discoverer instead as a start.
I don't think that Discoverer uses the "OLAP part" on the server (this is not my strongest field), but it has the same functionality with drill-down and summaries (creates materialized views or summary tables) we like the functionality we have seen so far. There are also good documentation on these pages (tech-net) with User guide for all the discoverer applications.
Hope this helps. Search tech-net and read about Discoverer and see if this is something you could use.

  • How to do this in Oracle discoverer for OLAP

I have two dimensions like commodity ( having 3 levels) and organisation ( having 8 levels) and Time ( Year- Quarter-Month) . The measure is Gross spend in USD. I have calculated 4 measures on this.
When I make the report in discoverer plus I have created the reports as organisation as page Items at level 1. Commodity is another dimension which i have put in left hand of the report.I want to compare specific month calcualtion to prior or future month selection with out having drill downs, because when we drill on year, it contains 3 quarters and contains 4 months.. the report is becoming very big and the calculations are getting for each year.how to avoid this
    ytd of dec 05 ytd of dec 06 % h % L Percentage

There is a Year to Date calculation template that will allow you to do this.

Also if Discoverer 10g is also compatible on windows 2003 server?
    Thanks.

    Hi,

  • Discoverer and Oracle 9i Olap Option

    Hello,
I have a question regarding Discoverer and OLAP option in Oracle 9i. Is it required to buy OLAP Option
with Oracle9i when using 9iAS Discoverer or can I use it without this option?
As I know Oracle BI Beans make use of 9i OLAP Option and Discoverer Graphs use Graph Component of BI
Beans, so how this situation concerns OLAP Option (I haven't found any information that OLAP Option is required to use Discoverer)?
    Regards,
    Aleksander Miler

    Hi,
Oracle OLAP is a multidimensional database on the top of the Oracle 9i database. It works like Oracle Express(MOLAP server).
Anyway, you don't need to install Oracle OLAP option when you use Discoverer.

  • Discoverer Plus OLAP

    Hi all,
We are looking at possibly using Oracle Discoverer Plus OLAP. Our database is Oracle Database Server 10g Enterprise Edition (with OLAP option).
Is Discoverer Plus OLAP part of this? Or is it a separate product? Or can I -only- get it by purchasing Oracle BI EE (which is expensive and more than we need)?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Kind Regards,

  • Open balance in oracle Discoverer 4

    hi,
I have supplier statement in oracle discoverer and it works fine. I give from date / to date parameters and it return transactions summary per each supplier. I need to add the open balance amount for each supplier to have real statement. so can you provide me with any idea to do that in discoverer.
    thanks
    Oracle discoverer plus 4.1.37.00.0

    Hi,
What you want to do is difficult to do in Discoverer, because you need to add the same amount into the report more than once to generate the open and close balances. Also Discoverer always returns a table of data so the columns must be the same for each row.
You can generate this report by creating a database view or custom folder that unions together the amounts for the open and closing balances.
For example, if your table was called inv_table then you can create a view or custom folder containing the following query which has some extra columns for selecting rows in your report:
select name, null inv_date, 0 num, amount, 'OPEN' sect, inv_date sdate, inv_date edate
    from inv_table
    union all
select name, inv_date, num, amount, 'STMT' sect, null sdate, inv_date edate
    from inv_table
    union all
select name, null inv_date, null num, amount, 'CLOSE' sect, null sdate, inv_date edate
from inv_tableThen you can create your report based on this folder selecting the name, inv_date, num, sect and SUM(Amount) from the folder. Create sdate and stmt_start and stmt_end date parameters for the report and then use the following conditions to select the rows you want:
(sdate < :stmt_start or sdate is null) and edate <= :stmt_end
    and
    (inv_date between :stmt_start and :stmt_end or inv_date is null)Rod West

  • Where is Oracle Discoverer download?

    Dear OTN,
Under Middleware downloads, you have a link called Oracle Business Intelligence and another called Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer. Both take you to the same place - download links for 10g AS rel 1, rel 2, or rel 3. I downloaded rel 3 - nothing in its installation about Discoverer. I've been working with Oracle products for 19 years, expect I'll find it somewhere after numerous downloads, blind alleys, etc. How is a relatively inexperienced user of OTN going to find it? And I would love a hint so I don't have to spend a lot of time looking.
    Warren Capps

Thank you very much for the quick reply. Much appreciated.
However, you must understand that it is not obvious to casual observer when they follow your download links that 10gAS rel 2 is what they are looking for when they want Oracle Discoverer and are faced with 3 10g AS choices.

  • Can I schedule a discoverer In Oracle Discoverer Desktop, Plus, Viewer ?

    Hi All,
I have a version of Oracle Administrator : 10.1.2.48.18. My customer tells me if he will be able to schedule a report in the Oracle Discoverer, and then this schedule send an email with the information that shows the report.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mariano.-

    Hi,
You cannot schedule and email using Discoverer scheduling. You have to use a third party scheduler and Discoverer Desktop. This article (http://ascbi.com/downloads/Third%20Party%20Documents/Scheduling%20through%20Concurrent%20Manager.pdf) may give you some ideas on how you can use third party scheduling with apps. A bit of extra development will also give you emailing of the scheduled output.

integrate Oracle Discoverer and Oracle Portal.
Do you know how to do it?
    Do you have any walktrough?

    Hi,
There is no such process of rollback the patchset.
If you have a backup of the Forms and Reports Release 1 , restore it back.

  • Learning Oracle Discoverer

Hi, I am interested to learn Oracle Discoverer and need your suggestion on:
    - Useful links for tutorial of Oracle Discoverer (I had PDF from OTN)
    - Which Oracle products that I should download to setup a test environment, other than RDBMS/Oracle instance. (BTW, is Discoverer an old name? I saw it is classified as "archived" product in OTN).
    - How far behind is 4i version?

    Hi Jill
There are various ways of learning about Oracle Discoverer, ranging from self-help tutorials to full-blown instructor-led courses.
    INSTRUCTOR LED
You will find instructor-led courses offered by Oracle University for prices around $600 per day. You can find other companies, mine included, that also offers instructor-led courses.
    E-LEARNING
My company also offers E-Learning for a very reasonable price. You'll find more details on my [home page|http://ascbi.com]. I don't make a habit of pushing our offerings in the forum and only mention it when a specific question comes up asking about learnning Discoverer. I don't know of any other company offering this type of training. If I did I would let you know.
    FREE CONTENT
There is an abundance of free material on the web. You can find an awful lot here in this forum and by just using Google (I do this a lot). I am the author the official Oracle Press book on Discoverer which you can find on Amazon. I also run a [free blog|http://learndiscoverer.blogspot.com] and offer free white papers and presentations here on [my downloads page|http://ascbi.com/downloads.htm].
To be honest with you, if you are looking to learn it more than to just dabble then I strongly recommend you take some formal training. It's the fastest way to get up and running.
    Best wishes

  • Oracle DB 10g and BI Discoverer for OLAP - Dimension Attributes

    Hi,
We are using Oracle Database 10g release 1 with partitioning, data mining and OLAP options and Analytic Workspace Manager 10.2.0.1.0A to create the multidimensional objects. For the user dimensions created using AWM we have custom attributes like HireDate, StartDate, Sales Personnel Role etc., For reporting purposes we are using Discoverer for OLAP. In this Discoverer version, I don't see an explicit provision to drag these attributes onto the worksheet. We are only able to filter based on these attributes and capture the measures...
Can someone throw light on this? Also, if there is a possibility to drag these attributes onto the worksheet can that be expounded?
    Thanks in advance!

Again this depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you define an attribute against a dimension it takes very little space as it is not directly connected to a cube and so no data is stored against that attribute.
If, however, you have a 4D revenue cube (product, geography, channel, time) with products attributes COLOR and PACK SIZE and you want to view revenue additionally borken-out by COLOR and PACK SIZE as well as the other four dimensions then your schema will require additional storage space. However, 10g compressed cubes and sparsity options do help to manage the explosion of data points as the number of dimensions increases. This should allow you to easily add attributes as dimensions into your cube.
One thing to remember is that most users start to struggle when confronted with more than 9 dimensions. So although Oracle OLAP can create extremely large dimensional models, users prefer their cubes to have 9 or fewer dimensions.
    Hope this helps,
    Keith

  • Oracle discoverer olap and 11g olap

Does anyone know if i can use disco plus olap against an 11g database cube. currently with my patch level it definately doesn't work as i cantwven select a catalog to report on but if i add patches will it work? and is it certified?
i have read the following and it still isn't clear
    Doc ID: 808276.1
    and
    Doc ID: 727948.1
    please help
    Thanks

Oracle makes it a general policy not to announce things in future releases, even bug fixes, without due approval from senior management. This puts Oracle developers in the unfortunate position of not being able to pass on information in forums like this, which is why you are not able to get a straight answer to your very reasonable question.
It is true that full support and certification for D4O and the Excel Add-In did not make the 11.1 release. This was for two reasons.
    (1) On the OLAP Option side there were so many changes to the metadata layer in 11.1 that there simply was not time to fix all the bugs. As I said earlier, D4O basically works against 11.1, but the OLAP group did feel confidence in its stability and performance. I can say that many D4O related OLAP bugs were logged and targeted for 11.2 and that stability and quality is the number one goal for the 11.2 OLAP release.
    (2) The teams that worked on Discoverer classic, Discoverer for OLAP, and the Excel Add-In were moved on to new projects following the acquisition of Siebel. You can see the statement of direction here .
Of these clearly the latter is the bigger problem. Oracle OLAP itself is committed to maintaining support for existing interfaces and the OLAP API (used by D4O) has not been deprecated. In fact it was the basis of much of the work in 11g.
