Oracle documentation web site broken

I am trying to download documentation from Oracle's site. When I go to http://otn.oracle.com/docs/content.html with either IE or Netscape, I run into a blank page.
Can someone at Oracle fix the HTML page please?

Seems to work fine for me. Anyway, it is now a redirect to otn.oracle.com/documentation/

  • Oracle's web site is one of the most frustrating I have ever used

    Hi,
There are two major issues with oracles main web site: lack of consistency and lack of information.
I would challenge anyone to draw any sort of coherent information architecture map of the oracle property. It would be a dogs breakfast because there is no consistency in how the site is laid out. Consequently a new user has no idea where to go to get the information you want. Sometimes you are directed to downloads from landing pages and other times its more product information. But it's rarely what you expect.
Secondly, take for example the download a the BPEL Process Manager for JBoss. I can't even find that page now where I downloaded it from... But, nowhere in the download page, and nowhere in the 100+MB download is there any explanation of what JBoss versions are supported. Just unbelievable.
If I did not have to use the web site, I would never go near it!
    Cheers,
    The Captn.

Actually, I find there is an amazing amount of consistency. I believe that Oracle's technology web face is organized as a set of portals. Let me walk you through an example:
Start at Oracle's main tech page, Oracle Technet at http://otn.oracle.com . That page, and virtually all those below, are organized as follows:
Top banner - log in, search (not particularily good),
Top shortcuts - quick links to First glance, Download, Documentation, Forums, Samples and Tutorial portals
Left nav bar - Product, Technology (overlapping product or OSS), Architecture, Community portals by category
Right Nav bar - Portal specific navigation to docs, demos, downloads, tutorials, etc.
Center - the actual content of this portal
So, if I'm looking for BPM for JBoss, knowing that's a middeware product, I'd go to the Left Nav bar, Products: Middleware to get to the Middleware portal.
That portal has the same general layout as above, so I concentrate on the center section. Just below the enormous (and confusing) picture, I notice the Fusion Middleware Family links which includes BPEL Process Manager. Click to get to that portal, and
That portal has the same general layout as above. This one's an end portal as it's got references to documentation, downloads, and white papers. It's may have the information I'm looking for. In fact, it's got the link to the download page you want.
On that download page, I note, close to the bottom is an older download of BPM for JBoss, and it specifies "Oracle BPEL Process Manager 10.1.2.0.2 for JBOSS (v3.2.6) ". That is the older one, so I assume the newer download is either for that version or a newer version.
Aside from that, some of Oracle's better kept secrets are their Certification Matrices. In general, you could check http://www.oracle.com/technology/support/metalink/index.html and for App Server matrix, look at http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/files/oracle_soa_certification_101310.html
    Hope that helps.

  • How to build a Oracle style Web site

    Dear All,
(Not sure whether this question should be this sub-site or not.)
My question is how to build a Oracle style Web site, what technology should be use.
    Example Site: [http://www.orapub.net/ebs/index.htm|http://www.orapub.net/ebs/index.htm]
This web site style is like Oracle Enterprise Manager.
    Thanks a lot

  • Oracle Modernization Web Site

    Hey folks:
You can now check out Oracle's Modernization Solutions Website:
    http://www.oracle.com/goto/modernization
There we address some specifics around the why and the how. Topics from SOA Enablement to Re-Architecture are covered there.

    http://blogs.oracle.com/jblog

Gain agility—Use process driven Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) concepts to respond quickly to business opportunities, gain more insight from your information, and spend less time maintaining systems and more time driving business value
Eliminate risk—Eliminate reliance of unsupported technologies and hard-to-find skill sets. Prepare for the eventual departure of experienced personnel who understand legacy systems and outdated languages
Reduce cost—Consolidate to high productivity open-systems environments, eliminate duplicate technologies, and adopt lower cost hardware and software
Address compliance—Modernize to environments where business processes are better controlled, business procedures are implemented quickly, and changes are properly audited
Good to know all this guys.

  • Web site broken up and not aligning

I've messed something up and can't figure it out? My level of website building can't fix this problem. I would like to know what is going on and how to fix it? It has spaces and the alignment it off, like something is flowing over and breaking it up.
    Look at http://www.eastportonpickwick.com/
    Please advise!
    Thanks, Wallace

Ken Pickwick is in Mississippi. I figured it needed to be re-worked. I inherited the site and have managed it with Dreamweaver. Yes the page was built in Fireworks and sliced, but the site is very unique.
Although I must say, as bad as it is, it has done its job and ranks #1 on Google and Bing in most Pickwick Lake searches. I've never had a problem until now with it breaking up and thought I could get some immediate help/direction from this community.
I knew it had errors, but these sophisticated search engines still interpreted the site.
    Thanks

  • Oracle web site - Your site needs help

I somewhat new Oracle and being a developer for years and using software vendor web sites to get things can be challenging.
However, Oracle is one of the worst web sites I have ever seen.
I am trying to download the Oracel Client (Yeah...where the heck is it??) and haven't found it for over 30 minutes.
Searching your site really stinks...it's awful!!!!!
    Finding anything is like...well...you can't!
Do yourself AND especially your client(s) a favor...Make your web site easy to use...it really needs help.

I have too very really frustated by Oracle Website for several years. Just today I was trying to download the Oracle personal edition, and putting 'download' or 'oracle personal edition' in the search box, and the results are mainly white papers and tech docs. The menu option also are not really hepful, neither the site-map.
So after 30 mins, i finally got to what i was looking for. The thing is that while trying to get to the page, you get lost in the Oracle 'labyrinth' web-site and come across several interesting docs ( which i wont understand everything anyway). Its like going to the supermarket for an advertised product at $10 and you get out of the supermarket with lots of stuff at $300 you were not aiming to buy at first.
Got my point ...well, I think Oracle wants to keep its website as it is. A company like Oracle does not lack resources to develop a more modern, easy-to-use and quick web-site. Certainly, the website handles a lot of info and lays on Oracle Portal ( if am right) but am sure Oracle does not lack database /application server and expertise to make it quicker and better !!

  • Broken links after uploading web site to server

We created our office's web site using Dreamweaver CS4, and uploaded it to the server of our ISP.  Prior to uploading, we tested the site in both IE7 and Firefox, and everything worked fine.  After uploading, however, all images are lost and several of our links are broken.  Any suggestions on where to start looking and how to fix are very appreciated.

Your code is whacked. Your page can't find the Spry files. Your code is like this:
    <link href="../SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
    <script src="../SpryAssets/SpryMenuBar.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <link href="../SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarVertical.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
That dot-dot part (../) means the page needs to back up to the parent folder, then enter the SpryAssets folder. Same for your images and links:
    <h1><a href="../Images/larger-logo.jpg"><img src="../Images/larger-logo.jpg" alt="logo" width="300" height="150" border="0" align="left" /></a></h1>
Looks like you used a Dreamweaver template and somehow your links/references got messed up. It has nothing to do with uploading to a server. The problem is most likely caused by [a] Dreamweaver site not properly configured, or [b] improper use of a Dreamweaver template. You'll need to either manually fix all the bad code or try to recreate a page based on the template - or even recreate the template.
First thing first - you need to understand the problem. Do you understand - looking at your code - what the problem is? Why those ../ are breaking things? Do you understand the concept of paths? You need to understand that before you can understand how to fix this.

  • How to Report a Broken Web Site?

How do I report a broken web site? If I click on 'Help', I do not see 'Report Broken Web Site.' I am using Mozilla Firefox 4.0b8 on Windows XP SP3.

This particular problem has been reported at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=622472 I have just voted for that bug.
Since my last report one month ago above, I have found the "Report Broken Website" appears under the Help menu item, is clickable when a webpage is displayed, but just endlessly displays a "Sending Report to server" dialog. It has never worked for me since several weeks ago. The moving blue bar under "Sending Report" just keeps moving but nothing happens.
Mozilla Firefox 3.6.13 , the latest version according to Check Updates. Windows Vista Home Premium.
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101203 Firefox/3.6.13 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729)
Expected behaviour: I guess the Report menu item should be grayed out or invisible until the reporting mechanism works.
There are a few other related problems with reporting broken websites here:
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?query_format=specific&order=relevance+desc&bug_status=__open__&product=Firefox&content=Report+a+broken+Website

  • Can't report a broken web site - trys but just waits and waits and waits "sending report to server..."

I was trying to report a web site as broken. I sent this URL http://www.thrillist.com/links/203501
"This web site is the worst I've ever seen for Firefox. You can only see part of the text and you can't even guess what it is trying to do. There are cards that are supposed to be shuffling."
Instead of reporting anything when I clicked "submit report" it was sending and sending and sending

That webpage looks fine to me - I can see the cards shuffling, as long as Javascript is enabled in Firefox (and allowed in NoScript for all the domains that "feed" that web page).
Beyond making sure Javascript is enabled, see if this helps you. <br />
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Websites%20look%20wrong
As far as '''Report Broken Web Site''' goes, that was a Mozilla "Web Evangelism" project where Mozilla reps would "reach out" to web sites to encourage them to fix their web sites to conform with established standards. After doing that for the last 5 or 6 years, Mozilla has decided to discontinue that project. That menu item (feature) is gone from Firefox 4.0 betas for many months now. <br />
I am only guessing, but the server that collected the data that Firefox users would submit may have been shut down already, or maybe it just wasn't accessible when you tried to submit that report.

  • Web Site Hosting in Oracle HTTP Server

    Hi All,
We have an application based on Oracle UCM. We are accessing that application using the url http://site_name/GMKP/index.htm . I have done virtual hosing (name based) with HTTP Server to host multiple web sites. One requirement is we need to access our application using url http://site_name/gmkp/index.htm . How can we do that? Please let me know a solution for this. Do we have to write some rewrite rule for this?
    Thanks,
    Manikandan

Look into mod_rewrite with a .htaccess file. You turn it on in httpd.conf.
There is a pretty nice instruction at http://www.addedbytes.com/for-beginners/url-rewriting-for-beginners/

  • Translating some Oracle documentation

Some time ago, I sent following mail to [email protected] but did not get any answer. Is this right email address ? Could you please answer my questions ?
    Hello,
The condition of OTN use say:
    1. Use of Web Site Documents
You may download, view, copy and print documents, including graphics incorporated in the documents, that Oracle publishes on the Site ("Documents") such as white papers, press releases, datasheets and FAQs subject to the following: (a) the Documents may be used solely for personal, informational, non-commercial purposes; and (b) the Documents may not be modified or altered in any way. Except where your use constitutes "fair use" under copyright law, you may not otherwise use, download, upload, copy, print, display, perform, reproduce, publish, license, post, transmit or distribute any Documents or other Content from the Site in whole or in part without the express authorization of Oracle.
I would like to know under which conditions it would be allowed to translate in French some chapters (or even a whole book) of a official Oracle book available on OTN such as the Concepts Guide or the Administration Guide. When I mean translating I mean publishing it on a web site as HMTL or PDF such as developpez.com. I don't mean publishing a paper book to be sold.
Would such a translation considered as "fair use" under copyright law or not ? if not, would you give authorization ? If yes, what would be the process to follow ?
    Thanks and best regards
    Pierre Forstmann.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you again for asking about posting your own online translation of our documentation into French. We cannot provide you with legal advice on what is or is not "fair use". However, we normally do not authorize independent third-party translations, because our warranties of the product are often tied to the documentation.
We cannot provide translations for everything. However, if you have information that indicates that there is significant demand for certain translations, then I would be happy to pass this information along to executive management, so that they can consider whether it is warranted for Oracle to handle such a translation in-house.
    Regards,
    Diana
