Oracle EPM 11.1.2.2 Installation on Solaris

Hi John,
Can you please let me know, about the user access / permissions (who would be installing Essbase 11.1.2.2 on Solaris). Apart from the guide, where I got to know about the user should not be a root user, the user & its group should have write access to the central inventory 'orainventory'. We are creating a new group & user for installing Essbase. Can you please let me know about other things related to user/group access/permissions/properties which I have missed?
I tried going through the guide many times, but could not find more. (/tmp folder write access etc is not mentioned in the guide)

Oracle EPM 11.1.2.2 installer bug

Hello,
Anyone found a problem with the installer for EPM 11.1.2.2 where if you go back into installtool.cmd after an install and try to add another product. The new product gets installed but the inventory and Comps.xml files get corrupted and some already installed products seem to be removed.
We have hit this several times and are wondering if there is a patch.

If you can reproduce it then it is probably worth raising with Oracle, I have not seen any patches related to it.

EPM 11.1.2.1 Installation problem on Laptop (Windows Server 2008 R2 x64)

Dear All,
I hope someone can help me here with EPM 11.1.2.1 installation problem on my notebook - Windows Server 2008 R2 x65, 8 GB RAM, running SQLServer 2008 Express.
I installed Hyperion Foundation. The installation and configuration went through successfully.
I am facing two problems:
Problem 1
When I try to access the workspace through the URL http://hostname:19000/workspace/index.jsp, I get error:

No backend server available for connection: timed out after 10 seconds or idempotent set to OFF.

Problem 2
Also, the service "Hyperion EPM Server" service not able to start. When I try to start, I get error message:

I tried checking everything but can't seem to figure out what's going wrong.

Thanks to your suggestion for database, problem #2 seem to be resolved. I am now able to start EPMA Service.

Oracle epm 11.1.2.2 http error

I installed (personal installation) and configured 11.1.2.2. Installation was successful. Configuration only partly successful as most of the errors point to http error and unable log on to workspace. It brings up a java.net error.

Oracle EPM 11.1.1.3 Configuration Help

I have installed Oracle EPM 11.1.1.3. I have installed on Windows Server 2003 and SQL Server 2005
Foundation Services
Essbase
Planning
Web Analysis
and after a while i have decided to installed EPMA and Profitability. Now when i tried to configure them, i messed up some settings. Now my workspace would not start. So i have uninstalled EPMA but still my configuration is still messy.
Can you please tell me how to delete the configuration completely and start as if it were a fresh install.
Any suggestions would be really appreciated i have spent over a month trying to get this thing to work.

thank you to all of you guys for responding to this question. as much as i hate to do, looks like i have no other option rather than uninstalling the whole thing.
i just want to mention that the other day i was speaking with an installation expert from one of the leading "hyperion experts" in US, the guy told me that there is a certain folder called oracle/userprojects . He said that if i can delete the folder the configuration will be wiped out,
but i was unable to find that folder in my installation...but what ever looks like i am going to have a sleepless weekend!!..thank you again guyz!

Config tool fails when trying to modify an existing Oracle EPM instance

I have a single server windows 2008 server environment with Foundation, prlanning, essbase , raframework, and EAL. I also have ODI installed in the same server. I was trying to add Strategic finance to the same envirnment . I downloaded the required files according to oracle install doc.
The installation was successful without any errors.
Problems started when I tried to configure it. AsI opened the config tool and chose
Modify an existing Oracle EPM instance ...
the config tool gave an error that
An unexpected error occurred and the application will have to be shut down . Review the error log , correct error condition and re-launch the application .
Kindly share your thoughts on this issue

Oracle EPM Planning 11.1.2.1 - Ziplogs utility not working on all servers
We have Planning 11.1.2.1 distributed so that Planning web app, EAS etc. are on own webservers and Essbase is on separate cluster.
Currently we have an issue with ziplogs utility - it seems to work on Essbase servers gathering all necessary ODL logs for over 100MBs, but on Planning Webservers ziplogs utility seems to start, but generates only empty 1kb zip file without any content.
We haven't touched logging otherwise, everything should be pretty much in original state.
Unfortunately I can't remember now exactly, but I have a a hunch that ziplogs utility worked prior patching Planning element on webservers to 11.1.2.1.600.
Other servers or elements haven't been patched (although Oracle recommends also FS, EB etc. to be patched to 11.1.2.1.600). I'm wondering, could this be the reason as in a way FS and EB are on same patching level whereas Planning is not?
Also, there seems to be a bit of limited diskspace on webservers (still waiting for extension), but I would imagine lack of diskspace for preparing any temp files etc. would results in some errors, the problem is that ziplogs doesn't give any errors, just runs very short time and then ends bringing 1kb empty file.
Has anyone experienced anything similar and are you perhaps able to give quick guidance how to enhance or modify ziplogs batch file etc. to make it create a bit of logging of its own actions?

Okay, I was able to get it installed and Common Components installed correctly this time. I still can't access workspace though.
Is there something I need to do before I can browse to http://localhost:19000/workspace/index.jsp?

Monitoring is a broad term. There are many 3rd party tools available that can provide monitoring, it all depends on what exactly you're looking for.
Oracle has a document on setting up Oracle Enterprise Manager to monitor Hyperion Applications: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/sys9-oem-integration-1-129287.pdf. For performance monitoring, you can also look at this: https://blogs.oracle.com/pa/entry/epm_11_1_2_how3. This will basically connect to the JRockit JVM and look at the performance for the web application.
If you want to do more monitoring (services, servers, processor, CPU), you can look into Hyperic HQ: http://www.hyperic.com/. They have both an open source version and an enterprise version. I've used the open source version myself and it is pretty good and plays well with Windows. You can see many metrics, graphics and information via the web based application. You can also setup email alerts on certain activities (service stop, service start) and also monitor website availability. For being an open source software, I think it offers alot and it is very reliable.
Again, these are just a few suggestions. There are many tools out there that can accomplish what you're looking for.

Oracle EPM 11.1.2.3 Hardware Requirement and best practice

Could anyone help me find the Minimum Hardware Requirement for the Oracle EPM 11.1.2.3 on the Windows 2008R2 Server? What's best practice to get the optimum performance after the default configuration i.e. modify or look for the entries that need to be modified based on the hardware resource (CPU and RAM) and number of users accessing the Hyperion reports/files.

Why would you want to know the minimum requirements, surely it would be best to have optimal server specs, the nearest you are going to get is contained in the standard deployment guide - About Standard Deployment
Saying that it is not possibly to provide stats based on nothing, you would really need to undertake a technical design review/workshop as there many topics to cover before coming up with server information.

Oracle EPM 11.1.2 issue with system-jazn-data.xml & HIT entries

Have been working on configuring Oracle EPM 11.1.2 and have one final issue from the diagnostic utility that I cannot figure out. Configuration sequence is as follows and each step is installed in its own database:
Step 1 - Foundation/Shared Services/Calc Mgr/EPMA/Essbase to a single relational DB. I am not configuring the web server until the final step.
Step 2 - Hyperion Performance Scorecard
Step 3 - Planning
Step 4 - Profitability
Step 5 - RA and configure web server.
I have used both SQL Server Express 2008 and Oracle DB 11g and get the same result.
When I complete the install, restart all of the services, and run the diagnostic utility, I get a failure with foundation services indicating that the file "system-jazn-data.xml" cannot be found. No real help is provided with the error message and have found no help in the docs or on the web. I have searched the disk and the file seems to be in the proper place per the docs. I have done partial configs and do not get the error. I have then compared the system-jazn-data.xml file from the successful config to the system-jazn-data.xml file from the failed config they are identical. Both files seem to be bloated with tens of thousands of lines, most of them blank.
I had reached a point where I thought the issue was related to Performance Scorecard and removed that step. I am now getting the error again.
Anyone seeing this issue? Is it just a bogus message in the diagnostic report and can be ignored? Any other thoughts?

Update - After going through the install many more times, I still do not know what the issue is, but I believe I have figured out how to resolve it. It appears that if you go back (after everything is installed and configured) and reconfigure the application server for Foundation services, the issue is corrected.
I am running some final test now and if I discover something different, I will update the post.

It supports WebCenter Customizable Components tag library in the ViewController project. The DataControls.dcx file which was under the oracle.epm.planning.application.ui package was still present under the classes folder. Since this file was deleted from the JDEV view it seemed that it should not be included. It worked on my environment but not for others who did not have the file stored under classes folder under the ViewController project.
I have the problem resolved now. Thanks for all the pointers.

How to migrate HPSu 8.3.2 to Oracle EPM 11.1.2.1?

Dear Experts,
We need your expert advice on HPSu 8.3.2 migration to Oracle EPM 11.1.2.1.
Client is having more than 2000 scheduled Jobs and approx 3000 published Bqys in HPSu 8.3.2. Now they want to migrate their current environment to Oracle EPM 11.1.2.1 on New Hardware.
Kindly share your views on below
1. Can we migrate HPSu 8.3.2 to Oracle EPM 11.1.2.1 directly?
2. Can we use Report Migration Utility to Migrate report from HPSu 8.3.2 to Oracle EPM 11.1.2.1? Is Report Migration Utility availabe in Oracle EPM 11.1.2.1?
3. Can you please share any known issues if anyone has performed such migration successfully?

Oracle EPM 11.1.1: Business Rules issue

Hi All,
I have installed Oracle EPM 11.1.1 and I have created a planning application. However when I logon to Analytical Administration console and try to create a business rule I am facing the following issue:
1. When I try to select Planning Application out I get the following errors:
Error connecting to Essbase server <Server name>/<Application Name>.
Detail:Could not log in to Planning Server
2. As a work around I have set the Essbase outline and the rule is getting validated from AAS. This rule has been attached to a form and should be executed when I do a submit. However the rule is not running from the form. I tried running the rule from Planning web and again I am getting an error.
I checked the access rights for the Business Rule from shared services and the admin user (which I am using) has Provision and Administrator rights. Is it a configuration issue or is there something that I am missing here.

Multiple Oracle Homes - Oracle Listener failes to start after installation

Just in case the listener fails to start after an oracle installation, please check the oracle ports in the listener.ora and tnsnames.ora, both of which are present in the following directory:
...\oracle\<SID>\<Ver>\NETWORK\ADMIN
All installations should have separate listener ports eg. If the first installation has port 1527, the next one should be 1528 and so on..
If they do not, manually change the ports and start the listeners.
Also check SAP Note 98252. Although I didn't find it necessary (I think it applies only if you have a single listener for all oracle homes), it did give me an idea that there some config problem in the .ora files.

I have been using the SQL Server , i am totally blank about Oracle
i am totally confused with this user, and hoststring
i logged in to the enterprise manager using System and manager password
But i cannot connect to any database using SQL Server
i am not remembering any user name or password i have given during installation.
the only thing i remember is
Global databasename = (globedb) i have given
For SID = globedb the same name i have given
for sys ,i have given sysdb as password
and for system i have given systemdb as password
with this can i do anything
when expand the schemas ,i can see the XDB,SCOTT and SYS . how can i login to this .
if i want to login to the scott
what would be the username,password,and hoststring. since i haven't set any password and username ,there would be some default username ,password, and hoststring.
if any one can help me please help me
