Oracle Express Database - Windows x64

At the risk of being seriously repetitive, I'll post a question I have seen in various forms for approximately 3.5 years. The user community needs to have a specific, fact-based answer to the problem of no x64 support on Windows. In several threads one can find via Google, people purporting to be Oracle representatives claim a supported version will be available "soon". Soon in my neck of the woods generally means a time frame less than 3 years, but what do I know. Can someone please, please provide a definitive statement of direction on this issue, and assuming this is coming "soon", it would be overwhelmingly wonderful to have a specific date. My company plans/desires/hopes to release software that would embed an Oracle Express db, and frankly I'm about to throw in the towel if I can't get some visibility to this question. As I've heard from many ex customers, "there's always Sql Server".
Regards, Roger Carter, President, DBConnect Solutions, Inc.

Thanks for the update. I followed up with Oracle internally via our Oracle Partnership channel, and they checked with the VP of development responsible for XE. The official response is "there is no date where this will be provided for Windows x64. It is, however, under consideration." In my 25+ years of working with Oracle, I will give you my translation - it is not going to happen anytime soon, and to your point, it will probably be version 12 before you see anything. For us, this is a huge disappointment, and it means we will be abandoning many thing with Oracle. It's my view that they don't care about this vertical one bit.

  • Oracle Express Database to Microsoft SQL

We are trying PCM v13 and when we installed it we choose to go with the Oracle Express database, if i want to install PCM again but this time using a Microsoft SQL database can i migrate or convert the previous database ?
Also I would like to know if there is a method to migrate the database of PCM 13 to be compatible with a PCM v14
    Thanks in advance

The dbsetup utility includes options for both migrating from one dbms to another, and also for converting from a prior version, so the answer to both questions is yes.

Hello, is possible to install Oracle Express Edition on Windows x64 ? When I try to install I get error "Error: 1719 The Windows Installer Service could not be acessed"

    Hi,
In fact, Oracle didn’t have a x64 version for Oracle XE, but usually 32 bits softwares run without problems in x64 platforms ... Have you checked out if is there any O/S user's privilege issue related to this problem?

    Hello All,
I have installed Oracle Developer Suite 10g along with Oracle Express edition database on Windows XP home edition. (Do get successful installation message)
When i open up Forms builder and try to use connect option- it comes up with user name, password and database dialogue box?
If I enter user name and password I choose while installation express edition database it comes up with the following error:
    "ORA-12560:TNS:protocol adapter error"
Have checked the services and they all seem to be running, have tried deinstalling/installing by removing registry values but still no luck.
In fact what ever I type the error message remains the same.
On the other hand I can access Express edition database using user name and password I choose during its installation.
Can any one please reply me what details i need to enter here? Is it same as I set up during express edition database installation? What about database?
Please help. As I am struggling big time.
    Thanks in advance.

These types of errors are expected. The problem is that types and tables are created as the database gets created. As far as I know SYS owned objects are never exported/imported, but other schema objects are exported and imported. These types of errors are generally ok since the object exists in the target database when the database is created with certain objects.
I'm not familar with this error:

  • Problem of Cube data in oracle express database

I am having one problem related to express server database created using relational access administrator. I am using express objects to create some adhoc analysis reports. For that i have created express database using Relational Access Administrator(RAA). I have done the following steps:
         1. Created Dimensions (D1,D2,D3)
         2. Created Variable V1 having dimensions (D1,D2,D3)
         3. Mapped D1 dimension to D1_table (dimension table in oracle schema) and same for the rest two also
         4. Mapped Vaiable to F1_Table (fact table in oracle schema)
         5. Saved this project in RAA.
         6. It will create one Data Cude related to vairable V1.
         7. I have created express database maintenance procedure using RAA
         8. Executed express database maintenance (created above) using Batch manager.
         9. Now I try to access V1 variable in express objects. "It shows me values for all related dimensions in this variable,      But it does not show me value for the fact related to this vaiable. It shows blank information."
If you have any solution then please let me know.
         Thanks in advance.

    Hi Visu,
You can do the selective deletion after carefully making the selections. It may also be a good idea to break up the delete process: Like if you need to delete 2004 data for one company code, then you can do that montt by month.
It is okay to include the compression in a process chain. What we usually do is to compress requests that are eg. older than 15 days. By that time we can be sure that this data is correct. You can also make these settings by number of requests to leave uncompressed.
    Hope this helps...

  • Install Oracle 10gR2 on Windows x64

Is this possible to install Oracle 10gR2 on Windows 2008 x64 ?
I though that there aren't any difference between 2003 and 2008, but during reading this presentation:
http://www28.cplan.com/cbo_export/PS_S291788_291788_176-1_FIN_v2.pdf (login: cboracle pass: oraclec6) I saw that installation on Windows 2008 is "PLANNED"?! Can someone explain more?

So what thas mean planned? You'd have to ask Christian Shay (apparent author of the document) but given that the document is nearly two years old and 10g is now entering 'sustaining' support without having been certified on Win 2008, I'd guess it means their "plans" changed.

  • Oracle Express and Windows 2008 Server

I successfully installed the Oracle Database 10g Express Edition on our new Windows 2008 Server. However, after install I can not open the Database Home Page in IE 7.0? The problem description I get when I click on the Diagnose Connection is "127.0.0.1" is not set up to establish a connection on port "8080" on this computer.
The server is also a domain controller, DNS server and DHCP server.
Is this version compatible with Windows 2008 Server?
Is it a DNS problem or may be a security problem?
    Heinrich

I have not tried it on Windows 2008. But the challenges with your configuration could be endless. Here are some common issues:
    1) XE must be installed by a local machine administrator, not a domain administrator
    2) XE requires several ports (1521, 8080)
    3) Firewalls and antivirus are known to crash the install
    4) Often 3) will block the installation of the database
Note that XE does not use any form of HTTP listener - the database listener does the bassic work and passes HTTP requests into the database. So no Apache or IIS requires with XE.

  • Oracle Express and regedit

    Hi!
I installed Oracle Express on Windows XP and I want to use PL/SQL Developer (could be any other tool) to develop with pl/sql. But I realize that the Express installation does not creates the usual HOME0 or HOME1 nor ALL_HOMES Oracle entries in the regedit, and I need them so my tool can detect the instance.
Why the Oracle Express does not create these entries in regedit and how can I create them? I don't know which entries I need.
    Regards

    Hi,
Thank you for your fast response.
RPuttagunta, with the new PL/SQL Developer 7 trial it works fine and the database name XE is found, but with earlier versions like 5.0 (which is what we got in my project) it doesn't work. A workaround I found is to manually create the HOME1 and ALL_HOMES entries in the regedit, taking as a reference an Oracle 9i client installation. My question is if that regedit entries are present in the 10g and future versions, or we will have to patch all the installations.
Legatti, SQL Developer is fine and I liked, but PL/SQL Dev still has some additional features we are used to work with. Anyway I will suggest it to the manager as an alternative to get an upgrade of PL/SQL, since it is free to use.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Is it possible to use Oracle Memebership Providers with Oracle Express

I am using Oracle Express as development database and I was able to create the ORA_ASPNET_ tables and procedures but when I try to use Microsofts "ASP .NET Configuration" tool to create users and roles I get this error message: OracleConnection.ConnectionString is invalid
When I use the connection string in code to connect to the database I am successful, I am able to open and close a connection to the Oracle Express database.
    This is the connection string I am using: <add name="OraAspNetConString2" connectionString="DATA SOURCE=localhost:1521/XE;ENLIST=false;METADATA POOLING=False;PASSWORD=CREDENTIALSMGR;PERSIST SECURITY INFO=True;STATEMENT CACHE PURGE=True;USER ID=CREDENTIALSMGR;" providerName="Oracle.DataAccess.Client"/>
So I am wondering why when I run the application and the membership class tries to verify the user I get the error message: OracleConnection.ConnectionString is invalid
I have been looking at this a couple of days now so not sure what the problem is, any help?

I suggest that update your machine.config file under your
    C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG.
There is one following entry. You may try to update the
connectionString with a valid string value.
    <add name="OraAspNetConString" connectionString=" " />

  • Oracle Express is missing JAVA JVM

IF I query with SELECT COUNT(*) FROM all_objects WHERE object_type LIKE 'JAVA%'; I get a count of 0.
    I see no DBMS_JAVA package.
How can I install JAVA JVM, JServer and XDK in the Oracle Express database?
I see no initjvm.sql, initxml.sql and xmlja.sql scripts. There are catjava.sql and catexf.sql scripts in the rdbms/admin folder.

Well, java is not included in XE and cannot be added after the install.
It was a quite heavily discussed issue in the beta phase but finally it was not included. You get the small footprint, though ;).

  • Connect Oracle 10g client to the Oracle 10g database behind a firewall

I need to connect an Oracle 10g client to the Oracle 10g database (windows server 2003 box) behind a firewall. I ran into this problem: Port redirection. Port redirection requires the Oracle client to connect to the database using a different port (usually a randomly selected TCP port) than the default or originally configured one. If there is no firewall between the server and the client, port redirection will not affect the actual connection. However, if port redirection does occur with the server behind a firewall, the client will be likely to suffer from a connectivity failure. The reason is simple: the newly assigned port based on port redirection is often blocked by the firewall. Such failures are not uncommon on Windows platforms.
I don't know how to stablished an unique TCP port.
I Enabled USE_SHARED_SOCKET on the Oracle database server, windows registry. Acording to what I read, that will force the server machine to share its port 1521 and thus all clients will stay on that port when connecting to the database. Noticeably, port redirection will not occur with USE_SHARED_SOCKET enabled, but that's true in oracle 8 or oracle 9. In oracle 10g this solution doesn't work.
I will apreciate any help about this. Please!
    Thanks in advanced.

Three solutions in order of preference
1 Use Connection Manager on the server (only installed using a Custom Install). This will tunnel all traffic through a single port. It will also allow you to configure allowable nodes
2 Set up shared server to use a fixed port. Disadvantage: shared server has overhead and the number of connections is limited
3 Use shared_sockets. Disadvantage: when you stop the listener everyone is disconnected.

  • Converting from Oracle Express Objects to Standard Form

    Hi,
I have create an EIF file from our Oracle Express database, then I have created an Analytic Workspace and imported the EIF file. After this I identify the Time dimensions. But when I want to identify the hierarchie dimension of each time dimension, it brings an Error: "ORA-34492: Analytic Workspace Object Jan96 does not exists", but when I look in the OX there exists the object. Where is the problem?
    Thanks Diana

Did you run the conversion program listed in the documentation:
If your Express database contains Oracle Express Objects metadata (that is, it was created by Oracle Express Administrator), then you can use a conversion program named CREATE_DB_STDFORM. Without Oracle Express Objects metadata, CREATE_DB_STDFORM cannot generate sufficient standard form metadata for the OLAP tools to work.
This should generate the required metadata but you will not to create some additional attributes to correctly manage time as the conversion utility does not do everything for you:
If you want to perform time-based analysis on your data, you must identify all time dimensions and populate end date and time span attributes before using CREATE_DB_STDFORM. A sample program is provided in this appendix:
Create date and time span attributes for each dimension.
    DEFINE TIME_TIME_SPAN VARIABLE INTEGER <timedim hierdim>
    PROPERTY 'USERDATA' FALSE
    DEFINE TIME_END_DATE VARIABLE DATE <timedim hierdim>
    PROPERTY 'USERDATA' FALSE
Populate the end date and time span attributes, as described in "Populating Time Attributes".
Set properties on the Time dimension:
    CONSIDER timedim
    PROPERTY 'END_DATE' attribute_name
    PROPERTY 'TIME_SPAN' attribute_name
The END_DATE and TIME_SPAN values (attribute_name) identify the names of the variables that you just created.
Run the conversion tool with a command like this:
    CALL CREATE_DB_STDFORM('aw')
Refer to the syntax description in "CREATE_DB_STDFORM Syntax". After the conversion tool completes successfully, save the changes:
    UPDATE
    COMMIT
    Hope this helps
