I HAVE WINDOWS VISTA AND I TRIED TO INSTALL ORACLE EXPRESS EDITION.WHEN I GO TO THE DATABASE HOME PAGE IT GOES TO THE FOLLOWING URL
http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex
AND IN INTERNET EXPLORER I GET THE FOLLOWING ERROR
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

To check if u installed correctly, in cmd prompt type tnsping xe. If installed correctly it shud say OK(30) else it will show an error. Now if it says OK, in cmd prompt type sqlplus and connect using system/pwd_u_provided_durin_installation, it shud connect.
Some steps to follow before installing XE
Before Installing Oracle,make sure to disable all the network adapters and ping in cmd prompt localhost and ur machine name, both shud refer to 127.0.0.1. Once oracle is installed,try to connect in ur web explorer and once connected,enable the network adapters. There shudnt be any firewall prob.,if it does add port 8080 as an exception to ur firewall list.

I want to use oracle express edition with windows encrypted file system. I tried some possibilities like encrypting xe folder. But connection can not be established when efs is used. Is there a compatibility problem between oracle xe and windows efs? On Oracle's page, it is declared that oracle database is compatible with Windows EFS.

Pl identify which version of Win 7 - 32-bit or 64-bit ? Home version or something else ?
The 11g XE install is only available for 32-bit version of Win 7 Professional or higher - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17781_01/install.112/e18803/toc.htm#BABHICJH. If you are installing on 64-bit version or Home version of Windows, then you are on your own. What is the reason for enabling EFS on this database ?

10G express edition for windows vista 32bits

Hi there,
I tried to install Oracle 10g Express Edition for vista, but it seems there is only a 64bits version and no 32bits. The standard 10G Express Edition I can intall but I can't acces.
Somebody knows a solution?

there is many threads about XE installation.
what do you mean by "I can't acces": via the local url "http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex/" ?
So verify first if your setup has finished correctly; for example, does database files were created in C:\oraclexe\oradata\XE ?
Or is there any other socket server running on 8080 ...

Windows Vista not working correctly with Leopard 10.5

I just updated my MacBook Pro 17" by installing Leopard 10.5xx (erased and installed), then used BootCamp to partition disk and install Windows Vista. In Windows, my volume control is on, but no sound. I am having problems with drivers, and as I'm a new user to Mac/Windows, so I don't even know how to identify which drivers (on Leopard installation disk)I need. In Windows Device Manager I have something called "Human Interface" that needs a driver . . . but my computer can't find it on my Mac or on the disk.
I purchased extended AppleCare warranty, but don't know how to use it, and my 90 days is up so I can't call. Is this warranty strictly for hardware? I don't understand how to get the support/how to information I need; I'm a Windows user and find Apple's support confusing and indirect.

Windows Vista not working on Airport Extreme network

We had an old airport, and the windows vista computer could connect just fine, no problems. We recently got an Airport Extreme to add networked printing, and now the Windows Vista computer cannot connect. Anyone know why or how to fix this?

I am having the same problem. All my Mac's connect just fine as does my XP Machine. I dual installed Vista Home Prem and it won't connect as well. Going to MS to see what the issue is. I am connected through a switch to the Extream to the Boardband router.

Itunes 7.7 and windows Vista not working!

Hello,
I have been plagued with iTunes and Vista problems ever since i got it on my Pc over 9 months ago!!
I had hoped that a multimillion company like apple most successful in this nich of the market would want to keep its customers and provide us with up to date valid software but NO..... 9moths later same problem!
Every time i uninstall and install a newER verson of iTunes i get the following sequale of errors:
1. Firstly a box appears with a sliding bar with " Please wait while windows configures iTunes "
2. When this finsihed another box appears " iTunes stopped working "
3. When u click OK (the only option) in the task bar on the bottom right a small bubble appears with the statment " Data execution prevention has closed iTunes "
Now i have been battling with this problem for some time and have tried many things like changing version of iTunes (clean uninstall and new install etc)
I have also located that if i try to start up Quicktime i get the same error box this time reading " Quicktime has stopped wotking "
I have uninstalled Quicktime and installed a new clean copy to no avail.....
Appart from throwing my iPod in the Thames and getting a samsung mp3 player, i dont see any solution... anyone have any ideas?

iTunes is a free program - it doesn't make good business sense for Apple to hire people to troubleshoot problems on Windows hardware - they'd have to hire hundreds, if not thousands to remote in to PCs and spend time fixing this kind of thing!
If you are getting that message about data execution prevention, you need to get DEP turned off, come **** or high water.
How about turning off UAC, can you even do that?
And with UAC turned off, can you disable DEP?

Remember you can always turn these back on to keep your system "safe" - this is just a test to get iTunes working.

You didn't specify which Oracle10 Edition.
In the case of SE/SE one/EE, with a paid license Supported has a mean impact on production environments with paid licenses, since you wouldn't run on an unsupported platform facing the risk of being left without technical support from Oracle in case of an emerging issue.
For the XE Edition, this is not a certified combination, since the only certified editions are the Business, Enterprise, and the Ultimate editions, but you can try it, you don't have nothing to loose, supported, certified vs. unsupported in this case makes no difference since this XE is not supported either way (no patchsets, no bug fixes, no technical support from metalink), just an AS IS free software.
On the license agreement terms displayed when you download the XE software it states:
"No Technical Support
Our technical support organization will not provide technical support, phone support, or updates to you for the programs licensed under this agreement."
and

For the XE users the primary source of 'kind of support' is the oracle forums, either the installation forum, the general database or the specialized XE forum.
Of course if this is for your own personal use for learning and testing and there are no third parties you could damage by doing this and if you don't have a paid license for this installation you may try it, but don't expect the Enterprise Manager to behave as defined by the manual, most of it won't work since the Home Edition doesn't have the privileges required for EM to work.
If this is your personal computer and when you bought it the computer provider installed from factory Home Edition, and if you want something to work there, you can try to install a Virtual Machine and install Oracle 10g on a supported guest OS.

Uninstalling oracle 10g enterprise edition from windows vista

I want to uninstall oracle 10g enterprise edition from windows vista home premium edition. I have uninstalled it using oracle universal installer and then deleted folder from program files. But I am unable to delete the main folder i.e. D>Oracle..
It is displaying error message 'access denied' Please suggest me on this issue.. How can I delete that one so that I can instal it again. I would be really grateful.

Connect Toad freeware with Oracle express Edition, How?

Although I know that people will raise the question this is Oracle and use SQL developer... Ok I do that and that is working fine. But on my work they work with TOAD so I like to work with TOAD as well and I want get some knowledge about Toad, TNSNAMES etc.
I've put the issue on TOAD forum as well, but till now I don't have received an answer.
I want to teach/learn myself Oracle by working with the Oracle express edition. I have downloaded the SQL Developer and I can work with it, which means I can create a connection.
Errors when I try to work with TOAD are:
If i try to make a connection:
- "No valid clients found. You need at least one 64-bit client properly configured"
If I click on TNSNames editor:
- Access violation in address xxxxxxx at module TOAD.exe"
I have installed oracle at D:\ORACLE_HOME. In this directory is also a TNSNAMES.ORA file.
I have installed the express edition with the installer. I have first installed the Oracle express edition and later TOAD.
I'm working on my local machine with:
- windows 7 Home
- Oracle 32 bit client:
- Oracle Database 11g Express Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production
- PL/SQL Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production

Oracle 10g R2 and Windows Vista

Hello,
Our company has chosen Oracle as our DB standard and I'll have to migrate a medium-sized database running on Windows from MS-SQL Server to Oracle 10g R2. But I need to do an evaluation on my desktop. Is Oracle 10g already available on Windows Vista? If not, what are the plans?
Note: can I do the evaluation on Windows XP professional? I'd prefer Windows Vista Premium because I have it running on a much faster machine.
Your advice will be appreciated.

Only Oracle Express Edition is currently supported on Windows Vista.
Furthermore, Vista Premium won't be a supported edition anyway.

I have successfully installed the 10g Express Edition on Windows 2008 Ent. r2 x64 with Microsoft Active Directory Domain Controller but i could not be able to run http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex
Although i have run the http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex on my another Windows 2008 R2 x64 ant WITHOUT Active Directory Domain Controller Role.
i think its related with AD Domain server role of my server, because i run that on same config and operation without Active Directory Domain Controller role.
Can anyone help about this issue?

I have experienced the same problem - running 10g Express on a Win 2008 (32-bit). When not being a Domain controller, the install was fine. When installing after the server had been given the Domain Controller role (+the required DNS), it failed. NO FIREWALLS are involved on the server. Seems like Oracle Express has problems being installed in this kind of environment - independent of x32 or x64 bit OS.

Oracle Express Edition 10g on Ubuntu

Since I installed Oracle Express edition 10g on Ubuntu 9.04 Linux I have had a problem with gdm and x-server not wanting to start.
at present working but most times refuses to start.
I guess that the problem could be that some of /etc/init.d/gdm files are not acessabale as Now there is a oracle user and dba.
Can anyone help?

Try using another decompressor. Or istall rpm file roller and try to decompress rpm package instead of deb.

Using OBIEE with Oracle Express Edition Database? SOLVED

I have a client that wants a quick demo of OBIEE. They sent us some csv files as the data source. I migrated them to Excel files for easier use, but the Excel files seem to have limitations on how I can combine the columns, such as concatenating and formatting.
I then loaded them into an Oracle Express Edition database, assuming more "database" functionality would be available to me. I was able to load them into the Administration Tool, but Answers gives me the following error when I try to view any results from the Express database:
Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW).

Error Codes: OPR4ONWY:U9IM8TAC:OI2DL65P
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. Based on the discussions in the XE forum (confirmed by Oracle representatives in official capacity) as well as the license agreement (which you should take to your lawyer tp etermine how to set up the paperwork for your application):
You can include the Oracle Express Edition in your application. You can charge for your application and give no money back to Oracle for the use of Oracle Express Edition. You can distribute the client-side JDBC that is included in XE as well.
But - you can not hold Oracle responsible for the operation of the database, nor ask them for support or patches.
