Oracle Express Server Vs Oracle 10g Express Edition

Hi Guys,
I have very basic doubt regarding Oracle Database 10g Express Edition and Oracle Express Server. Is both are same or its different ??
Actually I am looking into docs of OFA i.e. Oracle Financial Analyzer, and before installing this I need to Install Oracle Express Server (OES).
Does anyone has any idea on OES
Thanks and Regards
JC

Thanks for clarification, I was suppose to write
Oracle Application Express (formerly Oracle HTML DB) .Yup. It's pretty easy to get these mixed up. Especially since Express Server and Personal Express (the BI OLAP tools) really have been off the radar for several years, ever since most of the functionality was folded into the OLAP option of the Enterprise Edition.
So what we have now is "Oracle Database 10g Release 2 Express Edition" with "Oracle Application Express" as a dev/ui tool. And I've noticed that some people are saying calling "Express Server" when they mean "Application Express".

  • Connection between  oracle 9i server and oracle 9i client

    hi there,
    i have installed both oracle 9i server and oracle 9i client in my system.how can i connect these two to have connection between these server and client?
    Because i was using only 9i server for creating database and for other purposes.i have not used 9i client yet.
    Please write me the answer.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Balu,
    If you have the Oracle 9i Client, you can just edit your TNSNAMES.ora file of your client to have a TNS Entry for your new Database & try connecting it. You just need to try TNSPING & ensure that you can reach the Listener.
    Are you facing any specific problems ?

  • Upgrade from Oracle Web Server to Oracle 9ias(9.0.4).

    Hi,
    I want to upgrade Oracle Web Server to Oracle 9ias(9.0.4).
    Can anybody please tell me what are the pre-requisites for this and where can I find the documentation for this?
    Regards - Sachin

    Hi Sachin,
    If you are indeed running Oracle (Web) Application Server 4.0.8.2 or similar, the best way to upgrade will depend on what applications that you are running.
    There are upgrade guides from Oracle (Web) Application Server to Oracle Internet Application Server 1.0 as well as guides from 8i to 9i and 10g avaliable under documentation here at OTN.
    The latest version avaliable right now is 10.1.2.0.2. It might make sense to go to 10.1.2.0.2 than to 9.0.4 at this time.

           (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = xxx.x.x.x)(PORT = xxxx))

  • Oracle Applicatiton Server on Oracle 10g DB server

    Hope you are able to help me out,
    I have got the Oracle 10g DB server and Oracle Application Server on the same Red Hat Enterprise 4.4 server. When I try to start the Application server it gives me the error:
    [ons-listener] Bind failed to 127.0.0.1 the logfiles were growing to 1.5 GB so I removed them. How shoulld the enviroment variables be set because the application server and the database are running under the same 'oracle' user. I set it currently in /etc/profile
    Or is that not the root of my problem.....

    Hi,
    As long as the same user is the owner of AS & DB then the only choice is just to leave your .profile with the default setting do, add any extra ORACLE setting.
    Now U 'll need to create to scripts one for AS environement variable & the other one for your DB.
    On the prompt if U want to execute as script then
    #. setas or . setdb every script has her own env.

  • Combination: oracle 9i server with Oracle 10g client??

    Hello, we are running R/3 4.6C on Windows cluster system (node1-DB instance and node2-Central instance) and on Oracle 9i server. We also have several dialog instances running Oracle client 9i. Hardware and software (sap, oracle, windows) - everything is 32bit.
    We are replacing those several old application servers (=dialog instances) with new X86_64 hardware and Windows 64 bit + Oracle client 64 bit. The question is: is it possible (and also supported) to install Oracle client 10g 64bit on new application servers? We are not planning to upgrade DB server to Oracle 10g yet!! So, can we run DB server on oracle 9i 32bit and oracle client 10g 64bit on applicaton servers??
    Thank you very much!
    Best regards, Igor

    Hello,
    To Andreas:
    A little puntualization:
    the oracle client software version depends on the sap version and not on the oracle server version...as far as i remember, oracle client 10 is either supported for sap kernel 7.00 or the brtools 7.00, which means that you cannot use oracle client 10 with sap kernel 46D_EXT
    This is correct for <i>UNIX</i> systems, not for windows.
    On windows the client to be used is the same version as the RDBMS.
    I think this also answers Igor question.
    If you RDBMS software is 9i then you have to use the client 9i

  • Install Oracle HTTP Server to Oracle Database XE

    Successfully managed to install Oracle Database XE to Windows 2000 (after temporarily dropping TNSNAMES and TNS_ADMIN variables). I want to learn how to use Application Express (formerly HTML DB) and it would be a pain/take ages to get the enterprise DBA's to install it onto a supported networked instance. I have installed HTML DB into Oracle XE but the post installation instructions require that Oracle HTTP Server is installed. How do you get Oracle HTTP Server installed into Oracle XE? Oracle Universal Installer does not recognise Oracle XE as an Oracle Home. How do you use Oracle Universal Installer on Oracle XE? or how do you download Oracle HTTP Server with InstallShield? Seems strange that Oracle XE does not integrate with other toolset installations.
    Thanks

    ALTER SESSION SET CURRENT_SCHEMA = FLOWS_020000;
    exec FLOWS_020000.wwv_flow_upgrade.switch_schemas ('FLOWS_020000','FLOWS_020100');commit;I would give it a try, it's hard to make it worse ;).
    Oracle XE / Apex is almost the same.
    Some of the differences are:
    - SSO authentication is not supported out of the box (although there are workarounds)
    - You can assign only a single database schema to a workspace
    - There are no developer accounts in the workspaces
    Basically, both version are pretty much the same. You can export / import applications both ways.
    I cannot see what you mean by missing templates. They are all there (although not in the filesystem but stored in the database via XMLDB).
    You can reach the documentation from the homepage of XE and also from Start > Programs > Oracle Express Edition

  • Unale to print pdf files in oracle application server using oracle forms

    Hi
    We are using oracle developer suite 10g(10.1.2.3.0) in Windows vista. (test environment)
    Oracle application server 10g(10.1.2.3.0) in Hp-UX 11iv3 (production environment)
    We are able to print pdf files in test environment from oracle forms using the below command:
    host('/usr/bin/lp -d p9775hplaser '||'/ashome/output/'||:print_file);
    But while declaring to the live environment it is not working
    host('cat '||:pdf_print_file||' | acroread -toPostScript | /usr/bin/lp -dp9775hplaser');
    but when the above command is put in hp-ux cmd prompt it is workinh"'cat '||:pdf_print_file||' | acroread -toPostScript | /usr/bin/lp -dp9775hplaser'";
    Kind ly tell me whether the problem i with the host command and some other command is available for printing files from forms.

    Here is my guess:
    declare
    AppID PLS_INTEGER;
    begin
    AppID := DDE.App_Begin('acroread -toPostScript '||file name,DDE.APP_MODE_MINIMIZED);
    end;

  • Link from Oracle DB server to Oracle DB server

    Hi,
    I need some help how to link oracle db server A to Oracle db server B. It is so difficult to set it up. I kept getting error 'Could not resolve the connect identified...'
    when I execute this query statement that links to B server: select COUNT(*) from [email protected]
    I am currently on server A and here is the information server of server B.
    Server B
    DB Name: 'SafeStaging'
    Domain: 'us.mycomp.com'
    global Name: true
    Name of db link: SAFESTAGING.US.MYCOMP.COM
    From the query screen, I used the query syntax to establish the link as following:
    create database link SAFESTAGING.US.MYCOMP.COM
    connect to "login" identified by "password"
    using 'service_staging'
    In the TNSNAMES.ORA file on the server desktop, I also add these lines
    service_staging =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = ###.###.#.##)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME =SAFESTAGING.US.MYCOMP.COM)
    select COUNT(*) from [email protected] --> get error: 'Could not resolve the connect identified...'

    Thanks for the reply. But, the issue is not resolved. I still get error: 'Could not resolve the connect identifier specified'
    The TNSNAMES.ORA contains this information
    QSAFESTG.US.MyComp.COM =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = ###.##.###.##)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = qsafestg)
    Oracle uses this information to connect this db server is fine from the UI.  But, the issue when I create the database link.
    create database link QSAFESTG.US.MyComp.COM connect to "login" identified by "password" using 'qsafestg'
    SELECT COUNT(*)
    FROM [email protected]
    -----> I got an error 'could not resolve the connect identifier specifier'
    on DOS command - tnsping qsafestg --> get error: 'Failed to resolve name'. --why it failed?
    Then, I tried creating another link
    create database link qsafestg connect to "login" identified by "password" using 'qsafestg'
    SELECT COUNT(*)
    FROM table1@qsafestg
    -----> I got an error 'could not resolve the connect identifier specifier'
    ON DOS Command: tnsping QSAFESTG.US.MyComp.COM --> Return: OK. (100ms) ?
    Why do I keep getting this error: could not resolve the connect identifier specifier

  • Problem with a Oracle 8i Server and Oracle 8.0.4 Client

    When I try retrieving data from my Oracle 8i Server using a Oracle 8.0.4 client, the data retrieved in varchar2 fields comes back in a different format than previousley. I also have setup an Oracle 7.3 client and an Oracle 8i client both of which bring the data back as expected.
    If anybody has experienced this and can tell me whether this is a bug or is something I have setup incorrectly I would be most grateful.
    Thanks in Advance
    Andy

    Can you quantify "different format"? I'm hard-pressed to imagine how many ways character data can be formatted.
    Note that since Oracle 8.0.4 was desupported long ago, I'd strongly recommend upgrading at least to 8.0.6 and preferrably to 8i. If there is a bug at fault, you won't get a fix in 8.0.4.

  • Must Oracle VM Server and Oracle VM Manager be installed on separate hosts?

    I have only one physical server that will be used to install Oracle VM Server for x86.
    On that server, I will create several virtual machines running OEL5u5.
    Can I install VM Manager (GUI interface, not CLI) on one of the virtual machines (not dom0)?

    Hi,
    the provided XE database for OVM manager is also only 32-bit. For this reason only a 32-bit template is provided. (No need for 64-bit).
    Also I am not sure if any of the java stuff of OVM manager would profit from 64-bit.
    And since the software is only 32-bit, it does not make sense to provide 64-bit just for the OS.
    I am not sure, if this will change with the next release of OVM. But honestly... there is not a lot of data to be maintained, so there is really no necessity to have the OVM manager on 64-bit.
    For "small" applications, which don't need 64-bit (like memory etc.) 32-bit is faster!
