Oracle Express vs Enterprise?

Hi,
I was wondering if there is a fact sheet out there on the differences between the various Oracle DBs. I have not been able to located one yet.
I'm mainly interested if there are performance differences if any. If anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be most appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi Sean,
in addition to the license terms, you could take a look at the [url http://www.oracle.com/us/products/database/product-editions-066501.html]11g Editions comparison sheet. It's still based on 10.2 XE, so you'll find the database size to be 4 GB in that document, although you can store up to 11 GB in 11.2 XE and there is 64bit suppot for XE now. But basically, the features list is still up to date.
As you talk about performance: You also have this CPU and RAM Limitation in XE, which probably has the most impact on performance...

  • Oracle Express Edition & Enterprise Edition together

    Hi everybody,
I have an application developed in VB.Net 2005 with Oracle Enterprise Edition 10g as backend.
I also have a distributed desktop user for the same application which uses Oracle Express edition database.
I want to write an application for Data synchronisation between Oracle Enterprise Edition and Oracle Express Edition for transfer of data to & fro.
How can I connect both the databases in my data sync application (vb.net 2005)? I am also using ODP.net in this application?
    Any solutions ?
    Thanks
    Derasari

    Derasari,
I'm going to ask an obvious question here, if you can connect the desktop user XE database to the Enterprise database, why don't the desktop users simply connect to the Application Express instance running in the EE database?
It's an obvious question, but I had to ask it ;)

  • Oracle Express Server Vs Oracle 10g Express Edition

    Hi Guys,
I have very basic doubt regarding Oracle Database 10g Express Edition and Oracle Express Server. Is both are same or its different ??
Actually I am looking into docs of OFA i.e. Oracle Financial Analyzer, and before installing this I need to Install Oracle Express Server (OES).
Does anyone has any idea on OES
    Thanks and Regards
    JC

Thanks for clarification, I was suppose to write
Oracle Application Express (formerly Oracle HTML DB) .Yup. It's pretty easy to get these mixed up. Especially since Express Server and Personal Express (the BI OLAP tools) really have been off the radar for several years, ever since most of the functionality was folded into the OLAP option of the Enterprise Edition.
So what we have now is "Oracle Database 10g Release 2 Express Edition" with "Oracle Application Express" as a dev/ui tool. And I've noticed that some people are saying calling "Express Server" when they mean "Application Express".

  • Oracle Express Performance

    Hi,
We are using Oracle Express 6.3.2 & Oracle 8.1.5 for a decision
support system that we are building.
We are using a server with 2GB RAM, Dual CPU( 550MHz) along with
more than 100 GB HDD.The OS being used is Windows NT enterprise
edition server 4.0.On which both Oracle Relational database and
    Express express server resides.
    The building of multi-dimensional database(MDDB) doesn't take
time, we are using around 9 dimensions with total data in MDDB
being in the range of 5- 10 Lakhs records. The building time is
    about 3 minutes.
However, the running of an application(XPJ) based on the MDDB
takes lot of time. The report takes about 2 Minutes to appear
and situtation is even worse in what-if analysis kind of
reports!.The MDDB is being accessed from Windows NT Client
workstation 4.0 with 128 MB RAM.
We have read Oracle Express Performance Tuning and Database
Design Guide which is available from both Oracle Technology
Network (technet.oracle.com) and Metalink, however it doesn't
seem to be of much help. The sparsity etc. have been taken care
    of by us.
CAN ANYBODY PROVIDE ASSISTANCE ON THIS ISSUE OR IS IT NORMAL
THING TO EXPECT FROM ORACLE EXPRESS????...., .Request someone to
respond to this issue, as it very urgent & bothersome to us.
    Thanks

    Dear Friend,
I am trying to configure reports for express data and in this regard I have done the following :
1.Machine A having reports 9i Developer suite Release 2 and Pluggable Express Connection Editor installed on Windows 2000 professional.
2.Machine B having which Express Server 6.3.4 installed on Windows 2000 professional.
3.In Machine A created user OESDBA with Administrator privilige.
In the reports I am able to connect to the Express Server and attach the database and choose the measure.Once all the other steps are done I am able to print the data on the reports.
But if I use a parameter form in which I give the HOST,USER and PASSWORD then substitute the same in the express_server parameter value in the AFTER PARAMETER FORM trigger block then the report gives an error saying that
Express query contains incorrect, missing or damaged information.
How to solve this error ?
    Can you please help.

  • Using restore points WITHOUT flashback possible (in Oracle Express versio)?

For development I am using Oracle Express 10g version rather than Enterprise version.
Unfortunately the "Flashback" feature is NOT available in Express version (only in Enterprise).
I can CREATE a RESTORE POINT but I can NOT go back to it with a Flashback instruction like
    FLASHBACK DATABASE TO RESTORE POINT myrp234;
Is there a workaround for this in Oracle Express?
Being able to CREATE a RESTORE POINT is useless if I cannot go back to this RP.
So I guess there must be another way?

  • Preparing for Oracle OCA 11g using an Oracle Express 10g database

As a software application developer, I have been considering Oracle certification for a while to enhance my skill set. Unfortunately I don't have access to a commercial Oracle installation, and would like to use a free version of Oracle Express during my studies. The latest OCA courses largely focus on Oracle 11g, and it would appear that there is no free (Express) 11g database available yet.
Could anyone please advise me whether it would be possible and practical to prepare for the 1Z0-051 Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I and 1Z0-052 Oracle Database 11g: Administration I exams using an Oracle Express 10g database instance, while accompanied by the relevant Oracle 11g study material? In other words, is the overlap between Oracle 10g and 11g sufficient that a solid understanding of 10g could allow me to successfully sit the 11g exams? Furthermore, would the Express edition of the database provide sufficient functionality to prepare for the Administration exam?

For 1z0-052 the situation is different. Oracle 10g express edition hides some of the administration tasks ... you really need to be using 11g.
If you dont waht Oracle 11g all over your regular machine then I would typically recommend install Oracle Enterprise Linux either on a spare machine with a dual core or HT processor and with 2GB or more of memory (eg Dell gx280 or better); or using a virtualisation solution on your current machine (ram would need to be 3GB or higher) (eg virtualbox or whatever ... though windows as a guest can have a license issue).

  • Can i install oracle express edition in VMware cloud

Can i install oracle express edition in VMware cloud
VMware are saying you need licence for using oracle in cloud
but they are showing pricing for Enterprise edition
    and i am clueless

I've moved your question over to the Cloud Computing > Oracle Database Cloud Service space it I think it's likely the best place for it.  Certainly the community feedback and suggestions forum (not for product related questions) was NOT the correct place, as that forum is NOT for product related questions, as it states in it's forum space title.

  • OPS$ Account on Oracle Express 10g on Linux

I have the exact same setup for an identical OPS$ account on an Oracle Standard Edition 10g database (running on Linux) and it works perfectly when logging in as
    sqlplus /
However, the same setup does not work for the same OPS$ account on Oracle Express 10g. I have seen previous postings about OPS$ accounts that worked with Linux but not Windows XP (with the solution posted) but I seem to be having a problem getting Linux to work. I am running Redhat Linux Enterprise Edition 4.0.
    Thanks for any help...

To have OPS$ account on XE you need to put user you using in ORA_DBA user group.

  • Version upgrade.   Oracle express edition

I down loaded from OTN the version of Oracle express edition onto my computer. It installed version 10.2.0.1.0 or Oracle.
I would like to upgrade oracle, but I am not sure what patches to down load. Can I just upgrade using the Enterprise Edition upgrade of 10.2.0.3.0 or do I have to find the specific patch. I have looked and I haven't been able to find Oracle Express down load or patches.
Also the version of Application express that I have is 2.1.0.00.39
Is there a later version of that as well. Do you happen to know that patch download. I have been trying to find that in Metalink and cannot either.

    Hi user568042,
This forum is for Oracle Application Express. Your are talking about the Oracle Express edition database, so your in the wrong place. :-)
It is not possible to upgrade or patch the Oracle Express edition database. The product is free but without the possiblity of patching.

  • Oracle express to full version

quick question...........we're running Oracle express as part of a test environment.....once we go live we'd of course like to switch to the full version. Is this a simple as putting in a registration code, etc.....or must the actual full version be installed and data migrated?

If you're moving to Standard or Enterprise versions, you've to install them and migrate your data. Since the data in express edition won't be that huge, you can just do exp/imp for migration.

  • Is the Oracle Expression Filter supported on ca be used in an XE version?

    Hi everybody.
Is the Oracle Expression Filter feature supported for the Oracle Database XE ?. According to documentation, this is a feature available only to Standard (Standard Edition One i guess) and Enterprise Edition. However, i can see the script catexf in the rdbms/admin directory in my XE Oracle Home.
    Thanks in advance ...!

    Hello,
Expression Filter depends on some functionality that is not included in XE. So the Expression Filter feature is not supported in XE.

  • Oracle Express 11g installation issue

I have a Windows 7 Enterprise (x64). I am trying to install Oracle Express 11g but at the product prerequisite check shows:
Checking for Oracle XE service instance FAILED
    the other checks succeed.
I have already installed Oracle Express 10g on my Windows. My first question is can 10g express and 11g express co-exist?
I am not sure what this FAILED check means??
    Thanks

This is one of the XE restrictions (compared to other editions), you can only have one XE installation on your machine:

  • What is the diffrences between Oracle 11g standard & enterprise edition

    Hi,
Can anybody please tell the diffrences between Oracle 11g standard & enterprise edition in detail.
    Thanks in advance,
    Anindya

    Oracle Enterprise Edition:
Enterprise Edition is the full (top of the range) version or the Oracle Database Server. Options like RAC, Partitioning, Spatial, etc. can be purchased separately to enhance the functionality of the database.
    Oracle Standard Edition:
Standard Edition is designed for smaller businesses and enterprises. It offers a subset of the features/ functionality implemented in Enterprise Edition. Database options like Data Guard, Partitioning, Spatial, etc. is not available with Standard Edition (from 10g one can use RAC with Standard Edition). Standard Edition can only be licensed on servers with a maximum capacity of four processors.
    Oracle Standard Edition One:
Standard Edition One is a low cost, entry-level version of the Oracle Standard Edition database server. Standard Edition One can only be licensed on small servers with a maximum capacity of two processors.
    Oracle Personal Edition:
Personal Oracle is a single user version of the database server. It is mostly the same as Enterprise Edition, but doesn't support advanced options like RAC, Streams, XMLDB, etc.
    Oracle Lite:
Oracle Light is a database engine that can be used on mobile platforms like cell phones and PDA's.
    Oracle XE:
Express Edition (XE) is a free, downloadable version of the Oracle database server. Oracle XE can only be used on single processor machines. It can only manage up to 4 GB of data and 1 GB of memory. ISVs can embed XE in 3rd party products and redistribute it freely.

  • OWB with oracle express?

    hello,
is it possible to install OWB with the underlying Oracle Database 10g Express Edition?
    is this supported?
    thanks in advance
    -sven.

    Hi,
with 10g XE you have no support from oracle:
    Requirements OWB 10gR2:
The database can be any of the following versions:
    - Oracle9i Release 2 (9.2.x) Enterprise Edition
    - Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition R1 (10.1.x)
    - Oracle Database 10g Standard Edition R2 (10.2.x)
    - Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition R2 (10.2.x)
But I think it would work with the owb. But not good, because of some missing functions like parallel DML, bitmapped index, ....
