Hi,
The "Official Oracle Extensions" link on the extension page:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/partners/addins/exchange/index.html
doesn't appear to be working. Is there another URL I can download the extensions from?

Customizing EBS Oracle Help - "404 File Not Found" Default page

All,
I am wondering if someone could explain to me how the Oracle EBS Application Help works. For example, we have a custom form where we do not have a Help Page defined for the form so it sends me to a default page that says the following:
"404 NOT FOUND"
An error occurred while retrieving Oracle Applications Help information.
Help target US/********* could not be found.
My question is, when I clicked the Help icon, what happens after this? It would typically find the correct Lang/Application/Form and reference a page within that directories APPL_TOP/help directory. But when the page is not found something knows to send it to the specific oracle default 404 Not Found page. Anyone know how this happens?
Forgot to mention I am running on EBS R12.

Oracle Extensions Examples & WebLogic Server

I've run the oracle extensions examples with weblogic server and cannot get the
string representation for the addresses, as indicated in the examples documentation.
I get a hexadecimal representation. I'm running structs, refs and arrays business
object examples. My output is, for example:

So my questions is how do I get a string representation? Is there a hextostring
conversion java method? Why do I get hex in the first place?. The source file
is using system.out.println.
The output should be, for example:
Address: 4431 Canal Street
New Orleans, LA
Look at the AddressBO.java file in the C:\bea\weblogic700\samples\server\src\examples\jdbc\oracle\extensions
directory.
I use BEA 7.0 and Oracle 9.0.1.1.1.

The datatype for address may clob.Clob values cannot be retrieved directly .please try the following code.

Error while installing SSMA for Oracle Extension Pack 5.3

When installing the database utilities portion of the SSMA for Oracle Extension Pack 5.3 setup, the error below occurs.
Invalid connection (CREATE ASSEMBLY failed because it could not open the physical file "C:\Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant for Oracle Extension Pack\bin\ext\SSMA4OracleSQLServerCollections.NET.dll": 3(The system cannot find the path specified.).)
It appears that the installer is using the path: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant for Oracle Extension Pack"

Oracle extensions in xslt

Can anyone give me an example of the use of the extension function ora:node-set() and the extension element ora:output in the latest xmlparser_v2? Is ora:output equivalent with xt:document in xt?

Recompiling PHP to add Oracle extensions

Windows 2000 SP2|Oracle 9.2|PHP 5.2.4
I have tried to install php_oci8.dll and php_oracle.dll.
I added these lines to the php.ini file
extension=php_oci8.dll;
extensoin=php_oracle.dll
I downloaded the dll files from PECL
When I run the php file it displays everything up until it gets to the ociconnect then displays nothing after that. no errors.
I read somewhere to run php -v in my command prompt and this is what I got.
Unable to load dynamic library './php_oci8.dll'
The specified module could not be fonud. I made sure that the dlls are in the c:\php folder. I tried putting the oci8.dll after the oracle.dll extension and that did not work. So Im installing more oracle client things to see if that works.

I am working on trying and install a Oracle ODBC Driver since there does not seem to be one installed.

Oci8 and oracle extensions mutually exclusive?

Does anybody know if the following extensions are mutually exclusive.
php_oci8.dll
php_oracle.dll
I can't getting both to load.
They can be uncommented in the php.ini and loaded individually but if both are used this causes a fatal error and apache fails to start and doesn't leave anything in the log file.
I am currently using php4.3.6 / NT / Apache 1.3.12 (Win32)
I am fairly new to php and don't seem to be getting anywhere fast, any help would be appreciated.

I have them both uncommented and usable. I'm using Apache 1.3.28.
Maybe your four-year old Apache version is the problem?

What Are the Oracle Extensions Beyond Basic SQL?

I think I write some pretty mean queries. I've written some very tight queries with nested selects and in-line selects that take up four or five printed pages. However, all of my queries are limited to the basic clauses; select, from, where, group by, having, and order by, with a bunch of case statements and a handful of custom functions thrown in.
I recently saw a post on the ApEx forum that made me realize there is much more you can do with a SQL statement besides select...from...where. The post included a 'with' clause and a 'level' clause.
Where can I find a compilation of other SQL clauses/statements? I would really like to get my hands on a book as opposed to web links, but anything will be appreciated.

I'm getting an error message when trying to install the Oracle Rdb Extension (7.3).
I'm not sure if that extension has been upgraded for sql developer 4. Extensions written for previous versions won't work in sql developer 4 - they need to be modified to support the OSGI framework.
Leave the thread open until one of the sql developer team members can answer this.

v4.0:
With the new release of SQL
Developer 4.0, an extension that was written for a previous version of SQL
Developer will no longer work. SQL Developer is built on the JDeveloper
Framework. We have updated the framework to be current with the JDeveloper 12c
release. With JDeveloper 11gR2, they switched to an OSGI framework. The JDeveloper team has published instructions for updating your extensions to be compatible with
the new framework and SQL Developer v4.0.
The Check for Updates interface
has been updated to hide any 3rd party extensions to avoid confusion with
extensions not loading. Once you have updated your extension for version 4 and
beyond, let us know, and we'll update the system to make it available again. For
questions regarding the process of going from the old to new framework, we have
started a dedicated
thread on the Forums. You can also email the Product Manager, Jeff Smith, to
setup a call with one of our developers for additional assistance.
As that note says if that extension is NOT for version 4 it shouldn't show up on the list of updates.

Oracle ADF Mobile Client extension not found in JDeveloper 11.1..2.2?

Hi. I was trying to install the extension for mobile development in ADF but unfortunately I could not find the extension.
I went to Help -> Check for Updates -> Official Oracle Extensions and Updates. Yet i did not find the "Oracle ADF Mobile Client extension" there.
I am running Jdeveloper 11.1.2.2.
Is the Oracle ADF Mobile Client framework compatible for 11.1.2.2? Or is it no available anymore? Can someone please enlighten me? Thanks!

Oracle E-Business Suite Extensions for Oracle Endeca, Release 12.1.3.4 Installation

Hi All,
Previously we installed Oracle Extension for Endeca 2.3 for ChRM Claims on Linux Server but showing something went wrong with it. Now we are planning to install/upgrade with its recent version. Our main approach is also include the "budget dashboard" on EBS. For these we are referring the article id 1562372.1 for installation.
So is these good approach to de-install version which we installed previously and re-installed the complete set installation with recent version? QuickInstall package i.e E-Business Suite Extensions for Oracle Endeca, Release 12.1.3.4 Generic V39077-01.
E-Business Suite Extensions Oracle Endeca Server Quick Install for Linux x86-64 V39078-01.
Is there any effect on EBS if we do so?
Because we installed different patches for previous installation and as per the doc id 1562372.1 we need to apply some more different patches for these installation.
Or Is there any approach to to upgrade E-Business Suite Extensions Oracle Endeca which we installed previously?
Please help me to regarding these I am very new to these.

Workaround for using Oracle JDBC extension with WLS pooling

Reading the newsgroup I saw that many of us encountered the problems
with ClassCastException when tried to use Oracle JDBC extension
with WLS pooling. I also had.
In this case BEA recommends to use dangerous
method getVendorConnection() which exposes
the physical connection object to your code.
Yes it's really dangerous because of unsafe usage may breaks
WLS pooled connection(s).
Moreover, this practice will make your JDBC code
unportable (your JDBC code in addition to Oracle dependence
became Weblogic dependent):

Connection con = ...;
Connection vCon = ((WLConnection)con).getVendorConnection();
// + mess of usage con in one places and vCon in others
// (where Oracle extensions are needed)
// !Don't forget to don't close vCon!

Yes the real cause of ClassCastException is that
in depth of Oracle driver the casting
to class oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleConnection
(not to interface oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection)
is performed.
Someone can say that this is bug or pure desing.
Weblogic pooled connection provide dynamic
implementation for all public interfaces
which real physical (wrapped) connection object implements.
Great feature!
But I guess that all interface methods implemented
by simple call-delegation to physical (wrapped) connection object.
In case of oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection interface
this approach doesn't work for at least one its method:

WLS pooled connection shoudn't implement this method by
delegation to physical connection object BUT should
return physical connection object itself!

Which I feel is logical as the connection which we get from Weblogic
datasource cannot be type casted to OracleConnection

XDK10 - Access Oracle builtin extensions

Previoulsy to access the oracle XSLT buitlin extension you declare a namespace as below
xmlns:oracle="http://www.oracle.com/XSL/Transform/java"
but under XDK10 this generates an error saying class "java" cannot be found.
OK so what is the new way to access the oracle extensions

I just tried this with XDK 10i Beta's oraxsl command line and it worked:

Using long vs. clob datatype with Oracle 8.1.7 and interMedia

I am trying to determine the best datatype to use for a column I
wish to search using the interMedia contains() function. I am
developing a 100% java application using Oracle 8.1.7 on Linux.
I'd prefer to use the standard JDBC API's for PreparedStatement,
and not have to use Oracle extensions if possible. I've
discovered that there are limitations in the support for LOB's
in Oracle's 100% java driver. The PreparedStatement methods
like setAsciiStream() and setCharacterStream() are documented to
have flaws that may result in the corruption of data. I have
also noticed that socket exceptions sometimes occur when a large
amount of data is transferred. If I use the long datatype for
my table column, the setCharacterStream() method seems to
transfer the data correctly. When I try to search this column
using the interMedia contains() function, I get strange
results. If I run my search on Oracle 8.1.6 for Windows, the
results seem to be correct. If I run the same search on Oracle
8.1.7 for Linux, the results are usually incorrect. The same
searches seem to work correctly on both boxes when I change the
column type from long to clob. Using the clob type may not be
an option for me since the standard JDBC API's to transfer data
into internal clob fields are broken, and I may need to stick
with standard JDBC API's. My customer wishes to purchase a
version of Oracle for Linux that will allow us to implement the
search capability he requires. Any guidance would be greatly
appreciated.

I've finally solved it!
I downloaded the following jre from blackdown:
jre118_v3-glibc-2.1.3-DYNMOTIF.tar.bz2
It's the only one that seems to work (and god, have I tried them all!)
I've no idea what the DYNMOTIF means (apart from being something to do with Motif - but you don't have to be a linux guru to work that out ;)) - but, hell, it works.
And after sitting in front of this machine for 3 days trying to deal with Oracle's, frankly PATHETIC install, that's so full of holes and bugs, that's all I care about..
The one bundled with Oracle 8.1.7 doesn't work with Linux redhat 6.2EE.
Don't oracle test their software?
Anyway I'm happy now, and I'm leaving this in case anybody else has the same problem.
