Oracle Forms 6i support

Do you know if Oracle Forms 6i are supported by Oracle? If yes, when Oracle will discontinue support? What are the implication of the discontinuation?
Thanks in advance,
Andrey.

One minor thing, 6i Forms is still supported IF running in the context of Oracle Applications - otherwise no (as already stated).
While your application may still be working fine, one of the issues is the fact you are lagging further abd further behind the latest certified software for the OS, teh database etc.
For anyone running their production data this may be a risk that can't be taken.

  • Oracle forms & reports support on oracle 10g lite

    Currently our oracle forms & reports 6i application works on oracle 8i database with oracle 9i lite.
    We upgraded our database to oracle 9i r2 and lite to 10gr2.
    After publishing the application when i try to open the application the forms screen disappears for ever.
    I wanted to know whether oracle forms and reports 6i is supported on
    oracle 10g lite r2?
    Thanks,
    Ashok Kumar.G

    No. Not only it isn't certified, but it is also impossible to run forms compiled with the 11g compiler with the 10g runtime. For 11g there is a install bundle for the developer suite / application server.

  • Oracle Report and Oracle Form Version supported by Oracle Enterprise 10gR2

    Dear support,
    Would you please advise me on the version of the following product supported by Oracle Enterprise Edition 10gR2?
    1. Oracle Report
    2. Oracle Form
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    I think Reports 6i has the option to create character delimited output, which can be used for Excel imports. In Reports 9i the ability to add a mime type that opens Excel directly was added

  • Oracle Forms  (11.1.2.2.0) is supported on RED HAT 7

    Hi, all...
    I need know if Oracle Forms  (11.1.2.2.0) is supported on RED HAT 7, in certmatrix, the RED HAT 6  is supported, if I install in RED HAT 7, Oracle supports the product?
    Thank you.

    This forum is dedicated to support the Oracle Maven Repository and related Maven functionality and therefore, are unlikely to find answers to your Oracle Forms-related questions here.  However, if the certification matrix does not explicitly list RHEL 7, that means that it has not been certified to run on RHEL 7.

  • Oracle Forms New Features - Your input.  Supporting data types

    I am interested to know IF we were to support any new database types in Oracle Forms 11g, which types would you like supported and why. I'd also like to know if you are currently working around the absence of a database type.
    Please note, this is not any kind of commitment to support new data types in Oracle Forms applications but we are interested to know if there is demand and if so, for what types.
    Thanks

    p.s lets keep the thread focused on the topic so please don't post technical questions or comments about different new features - if you want to, start a new thread - thanks

    Hi Grant,
    support for the "new" - well they exists since 9iR1 ... 2001 - data types TIMESTAMP, TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE, TIMESTAMP WITH LOCAL TIME ZONE, INTERVAL YEAR TO MONTH and INTERVAL DAY TO SECOND would be very helpful.
    Currently it's not possible to use the Data Block Wizard to create a data block for table/view that contains one of these columns.
    (In Forms Builder 10.1.2.3 it fails with a strange error message ... iewbdbc_oracle_to_id ... C:\forms\101220\src\ie\iewbdb.c:724 ...)
    So, one has to create the data block and the items manually. The items have to be CHARS.
    Then forms is able to fetch and display these columns. The user can edit them as normal.
    A WHEN-VALIDATE-ITEM trigger can be used to make sure that the implicit conversion from CHAR to the "new" datatype works.
    For example, an INTERVAL YEAR TO MONTH column (b):
    declare
      l_invalid_interval exception;
      pragma exception_init(l_invalid_interval, -1867);
      l_invalid_month exception;
      pragma exception_init(l_invalid_month, -1843);
      l_dummy interval year(9) to month;
    begin
      l_dummy := to_yminterval(:block2.b);
    exception
      when l_invalid_interval
      then
        message('invalid interval');
        raise form_trigger_failure;
      when l_invalid_month
      then
        message('invalid month');
        raise form_trigger_failure;
      when others
      then
        message(error_text);
        raise form_trigger_failure;
    end;This nasty trick works for most of the "new" datatypes except with TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE.
    In Forms 10.1.2.3 the following WHEN-VALIDATE-ITEM trigger can (incorrectly!) fail:
    declare
      l_dummy timestamp with time zone;
    begin
      l_dummy := to_timestamp_tz(:block2.a);
    end;It fails with "ORA-01804: failure to initialize timezone information", if the time zone is not like "-11:00", but like "EUROPE/PARIS". Don't know why...
    If we recode our trigger to make a round-trip to the database, it works:
    declare
      l_dummy timestamp with time zone;
    begin
      select to_timestamp_tz(:block2.a)
      into   l_dummy
      from dual;
    end;We could avoid these tricks, if Forms (and Reports) would support these type natively.
    Thanks, Michael
    PS: The TIMESTAMP and INTERVAL data types should of course be supported as items, parameters, globals and record groups columns.

  • How long Oracle plans to support Forms/Reports 6i ?

    Hello dear Oracle Forms users/developers,
    The "Oracle Forms: Features Obsolescence for Release 9i", which I downloaded from OTN, clearly indicates that the client-server runtime will be obsolete in 9i, and (quote) "users who currently deploy their application in a client-server environment and who wish to upgrade to 9i will have to Web-deploy their application as part of the upgrade process" (page 3). It also indicates that Oracle Graphics will not be shipped with Forms 9i. If someone needs Graphics, then Graphics 6i (not 9i) need to be installed into a separate Oracle_Home...
    I have been trying to convince some Oracle product managers for years to continue supporting the runtime environment. Oracle always refused to include the "runtime only" installation option for any flavor of unix (eventhough it was available for windows).
    The above news (of the fading away of client-server runtime option) really did upset me.
    We have been developing applications with Oracle Forms/Reports/Graphics for the client-server environment as the database frontend to different simulation models. Our forms includes buttons that allows the end-users to download/upload ascii files to the file system/database. We and our customers (including the international users) are very happy with the client-server runtime option and don't want to use the forms server (or the iAS) just to be able to run these complex forms/reports/graphics applications.
    Oracle keeps telling people that it will be cheaper to move to iAS and serve the forms via iAS forms services. For small size client-server applications this is absolutely not true. We are an Oracle partner and I have discussed the licensing issues with them and am aware of the deploying costs. Let me tell you couple of things:
    1. Oracle forms/reports services included only in the enterprise version of 9iAS, not the standard version.
    2. If the end-user is licensed for Oracle database server and has a copy of Forms/Reports Developer 6i, then they can run the client-server application without any extra license (number of users does not apply in this case).
    3. Forms/Reports Developer 6i is not a separate product and could be obtained by purchasing iDS (internet Developer Suite) or iAS EE license. iDS is a windows only product and includes designer 6i, Jdeveloper additional to the forms/reports developer 6i. Someone might say, "the end-user might not need all the extra just to be able to run your forms". Answer to that is the cost of purchasing a 2 years license for iDS is almost equal or cheaper than the cost of 2 years named user license (based on the fact that 9iAS EE has a 10 named user minimum requirement). And the end-user can install only the forms/reports part of iDS (given the fact that forms/reports 6i is available for different platforms including solaris - does not have to be windows).
    4. This information if from the Oracle Partnership and any Oracle employee which doubts about it should talk to them to verify.
    Here are my questions:
    ========================
    Given all these FACTS (our satisfaction level with the client-server environment with Forms/Reports Developer 6i and the licensing information) I would like to ask to those Oracle employees (or personnel) how they justified the termination of the client-server runtime in Forms 9i?
    If the Forms/Reports Developer 6i will be the only (and the last) version that supports client-server runtime environment, how long Oracle is going to support it?
    I need to know to decide if we should use the forms/reports in our future projects or not.
    Thank you (for reading all this crap) and best regards.
    Zafer AKTAN
    Oracle DBA/Developer

    Question 1
    I would like to ask to those Oracle employees (or personnel) how they justified the termination of the client-server runtime in Forms 9i?
    This descicion was made from feedback from our customers. Feedback from the Forms Customer Advisory Board and the Oracle Developer Tools Group (ODTUG) indicated that they are 1)in the process of moving their client-server applications to the web, 2)have already moved to the web, 3)are looking at web stategies and 4)this is also the direction that Oracle Applications division is taking.
    It is proven that while liscencing for the web may not be cheaper in itself, the total cost of ownership is cheaper with web deployment once you figure in the ease of maintanence, deployment, and configuration.
    Question 2
    If the Forms/Reports Developer 6i will be the only (and the last) version that supports client-server runtime environment, how long Oracle is going to support it?
    Yes, Forms 6i is the last version to support client-server runtime. 6i will be patched through 2006 with extended support through 2008.

  • Oracle forms 10G -Version 10.1.2.0.2 will it support timestamp data type ?

    Hi all,
    We are having database server - oracle 10g enterprise edition R2,
    forms - Oracle forms 10G -Version 10.1.2.0.2 on windows 2000 professional.
    We have created a table which has a column of type "timestamp",the following is the structure.
    CREATE TABLE  "STOCK_AREA_MASTER"
            (     "STOCK_AREA_CODE"     NCHAR(5)       NOT NULL    ENABLE,
                  "STOCK_AREA_DESC"     NVARCHAR2(40)  NOT NULL    ENABLE,
                  "RECORD_STATUS"       CHAR(1)        DEFAULT 'A',
                  "USER_ID"             NVARCHAR2(20)  DEFAULT USER,
                  "TIMESTAMP"           TIMESTAMP (6)  DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP)
    [\code]
    We  tried to invoke this table(stock_area_master) using database block wizard in forms 10g,we were expecting to see the columns in this table,but we got the following error
    FRM -10095 - Assertion failed
    on seeing the forms help for the error FRM-10095,We are getting the following message
    FRM-10095: Assertion failed in %s, at %s:%d. Cause:  An internal inconsistency was detected. Action:  Contact an Oracle support representative, and proceed with caution
    We have the following concerns.
    1.) is it possible to have datatype "timestamp" in forms 10g,our researches show that we can manipulate using datatime datatype in forms,our requirement is have to precision of 6 digits(millisecond - format - dd/mm/rr hh24:mi:ss:ssss),we are able query and view precision to the tune dd/mm/rr hh24:mi:ss:ssss,but we are unable to insert/update to this precision.
    We would appreciate if some one could throw some light on the above.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Mohan,
    Hm. Strange.
    I have reproduced the problem in my environment.
    I have also found, that building the block manually, seems to work, as long as you define the item with datatype Char in Form Builder. Inserts and updates using a value like "22-AUG-06 11:10:11,647354 AM" worked fine for the timestamp item.
    You may want to enforce some dateformat. I don't know whether that will work.
    Good Luck!

  • Urdu support in Oracle Forms 9i

    Requirement:
    ============
    We have an application in Oracle Forms & Report 9i Rel 2 and Database 9i Rel 2.
    There is a client requirement to provide Urdu support in this application.
    We have to enter Urdu data in few forms and print it in PDF reports.
    Problem:
    ===========
    We created new database with AL32UTF8 Character Set with same National
    Character Set for Unicode support.
    Developed a form and report on a table with NVARCHAR2 data type.
    Edited nls_lang entries in Registry to AMERICAN_AMERICA.AL32.UTF8
    Installed Urdu Support in WinXp
    Database stores and retrieves Urdu and displays Oracle SQL Developer.
    Oracle form stores/retrieves Urdu characters but it fails to type
    complete words and sentences.
    On typing 2nd, 3rd characters of a words all characters position mix up
    randomly and produce garbage.
    Oracle report don't show Urdu characters in run-time but it shows the
    same in Report Builder.
    Further more, Our group of applications works in Materialized View Replication environment [5-6 applications consolidate data at a Central Database]. If we change Character Set of one application's database to Unicode then is it must to apply the change in all databases of replication group.
    Please suggest if Oracle IDS 9i or 10g provides support for Urdu. If yes then please suggest solution of the above stated problems.
    Looking forward for your quick response.

    You would have much more possibilities to have your question answered if you posted it in Oracle Forms forum.....

  • Languages Supported in Oracle Forms

    Hi,
    Can anyone tell me which languages are supported in Oracle forms ,or with UTF8 characterset i can make forms6i to work for all languages.
    Please correct me ...
    Regards,
    Sandeep

    I don't think this feature is feasible for forms.
    Quoting the documentation from
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28310/manproc002.htm
    Database Resident Connection Pooling (DRCP) provides a connection pool in the database server for typical Web application usage scenarios where the application acquires a database connection, works on it for a relatively short duration, and then releases it.
    Forms keeps a permanent connection to the database, so a connection pool isn't gonna help you in any way.

  • Safari is not Supporting Oracle Forms

    Hi,
    I'm using Oracle forms 11g. Previously I was able to open the Oracle Forms from Safari(5.1.3) but now I'm unable to open it from Safari(5.1.7). It is showing blank page and it is also not asking for any plug-in.
    Please help me out from this problem.

    This is mostly an Apple issue and you should discuss it with them. Oracle Support has authored some documents on the subject, but because it is really an Apple issue, you probably will be best served contacting them. Basically, Apple has put Java on lockdown. If you want it to work make some setting changes. There are numerous web site that are talking about the new restrictions. A simple Google search will get you started.

    Hi All,
    I am beginning a software integration project and would really appreciate it if you could give me some guidance. I wish to find an IDE that will support Oracle Forms & Reports (6i and 9i/10g) development (in particular support for coding of .rdf and .fmb files) either natively or via a plug-in. Is anyone aware of such an IDE or plug-in? Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for your input Jacob, that answered my question. I was wanting to know if there was any IDE that could be used to develop fmb's or rdf's, either natively or with a plug-in. From your response, I now know there are not.

  • How long is Oracle Forms/Developer Suite to be supported?

    Hi.
    I'm just curious how long Oracle are committed to supporting or creating new versions of Oracle Forms Developer / Developer Suite. I've heard, from one or two sources, that the intention is to abandon forms, and move the focus completely to Jdeveloper some time soon...
    Is this true? does anyone know anything different?

    Here we are again whith that question...
    I'm a senior forms developer (and to make a little humour i've just recently learned designer...)
    I think the confusion comes also from "J2EE Application Development for Forms and Designer Developers" which can make us thinking oracle is pushing up to J2EE and prepare us for the Dead of Forms RIP ...
    And also that forms developer like me are a little bit afraid because they probably have no skills in J2EE.
    But for me it is clear now.
    There is no reason to migrate Forms to J2EE with whatelse tool can be sell to you.
    I tried some demos in the past with such tools and it makes me laugh, converting a simple master detail forms dept/emp.
    What can such tools make with very complex forms and logic ?
    But the question is if I had to create a new application will i still do it with Forms ?
    And the answer (for me) is no, especially when I see what the next Jdeveloper 11g will be able to do (I tried the fusion order demo and i was really impressed)
    You say "I've invested so much time in learning, and becoming proficient at Oracle Forms..."
    And so did I but I bought the book "Oracle JDeveloper 10g for Forms and PL/SQL Developers" and I study it page after page to enter the ADF world and upgrade my knowledge.
    So Forms or J2EE it is your choice and i will not post the link to the SOD (francois did it) but Forms can also live in a SOA world http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/pdf/10gR2/forms-soa-wp.pdf
    but we, forms developers, we must not only focus on forms and its death, but also go ahead and invest so much time we did to learn forms in learning J2EE, BPEL and etc etc.
    Hope this can help
    Jean-Yves
    ps : relating to older post, forms was dead each time a new version of the appServer was comming :o)

  • Integrating Oracle Forms 11g with JavaScript - keystrokes support issues

    This article
    http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/forms/11g/jsinteg/formsjsinteg/setup.htm
    shows the JavasriptIntegration with Oracle Forms.
    I am trying to navigate out of Oracle Forms Java Applet with separateFrame=false to access an external menu using JavaScript. I can't find a way to navigate out of Oracle Forms. My focus stays inside the currently opened form and the applet does not lose the focus.
    I need to access any external UI component by shifting the focus form the Java Applet to that components using only key strokes.
    Thanks for your help

    Vikas,
    Sorry for the delay. I am still investigating this. In general, it would appear as I mentioned. If the form that contains the code specific to the event monitoring has not been run, then it cannot be executed. We are trying to get clarification on the definition of "scope" in this case. In the mean time, one alternative might be to subclass the related triggers/pu and include them in all of the forms where you want them to fire. Currently I am suspecting that scope refers to a relationship to forms currently running. For example if you have form A, B, and C running a scope of "form" might suggest that the events are only monitored if the current form includes the necessary code. However, if "application" then even if the form containing the necessary code is not the current form, the necessary code would fire anyway. Again, I am trying to get more clarification, but it is slow coming.
    If this is truely an urgent issue, I encourage you to create a Service Request with Oracle Support.
