In theory you can run it 2 tier - which means that you have the client (the machine the user is sitting at) being the same machine in which the forms application server is running. So yes. But specifically, we don't support a client server runtime anymore. 6i was the last version.
With 10g you will be running through a browser.

Load balancing Oracle Forms in Application Server

Hi,
We're currently planning moving from client-server forms to webforms running on Oracle Application Server (10.1.2.0.2). To meet our high availability requirements, we plan to run our forms app servers active-active. We're coming a little unstuck determining the best method of load balancing requests between these however.
Currently the main sticking point is determining whether to go for software or hardware load balancers. One of the main things we're unsure of is how much traffic we can expect to flow through the network. In our client-server environment we typically have 900-1000 active connections during peak load and ~350 forms coming in at just over 300Mb in total.
If you have any experience load balancing between Oracle Forms on Application Server, we'd appreciate it if you could share details of you setup and how it's performing; particularly:
* Whether you have software/hardware load balancing
* The number of connections this supports
* Details of the volume of network traffic you have

We have implemented both hardware load-balancers and Webcache as load-balancer. Depending on the situation either may be the best solution. In general we recommend to use hardware load-balancers for production systems that require high availability. However, Webcache is very reliable as well and a Webcache instance can be recovered very quickly in case of a failure (use the cloning facility to create a copy of the instance on new hardware within minutes).
When using https for your applications we do not recommend to use WebCache as there are several issues to cope with then, one is performance (https acceleration facilities are often part of hardware load-balancers).

I am using Oracle forms 6i (without application server) Oracle 10g database on windows xp environment.
Actually i sent an intimation email to Head of Department (HOD) for my leave approval, now my HOD want there will be a link in email
i.e:
Leave Management System
when he click on it, run Oracle application which is mapped on his Z:\ drive. just logged on the Oracle application and perform his action.
Oracle Forms are installed at D:\ORA6i\BIN\ifrun60.EXE on HOD computer and oracle compiled forms exist at Z:\Forms\Mainmenu
complete running path is D:\ORA6i\BIN\ifrun60.EXE Z:\Forms\Mainmenu

Connecter for provisioning to Oracle Form based Applications

Hi,
I would like to provision users from OIM to Oracle Form based applications.May I know which connecter I have to use?. DB Application table connecter or DB User Management Connecter?.
Also may I know in which table I need to refer to (If i am using Application Table connecter)?.Thanks.

The database application table connector should work fine. Figure out which table contains the user information for the users and you should be fine.
If Oracle Forms actually uses database users just use the database user connector.

How to deploy oracle forms + J2EE application in single OC4J instance

We have ORACLE forms application, which is deployed in OC4J Instance in application server.
There are some modules, which are developed in Java/J2EE, which are invoked from Oracle forms application. Currently this java application is
deployed in separate OC4J instance.
Could you please help us how to combine this forms +J2ee application in single ear file,
And this ear file has to be deployed in one OC4J instance.

Migrating Oracle Forms 6i application to 9i

I have a (Client/Server) application which was developed using Oracle Forms 6i and Reports 6i and would like to migrate this application into Forms 9i & Reports 9i. Where can I find the migration instructions or manuls?. Any help will be appreciated.

Check also otn.oracle.com/formsupgrade. And as a final point I would not recommend going to 9i - its desupported - upgrade to 10g (10.1.2) of Forms

does it work with firefox or chrome?
You will find out you deeply have to know formsweb.cfg
However, ie 10 in general with oracle is not a good plan. E.g.:

I hear ie10 is being deployed to windows 7 and and ie11 is in the works.
which is why I say, oracle needs to develop their own program for launching forms. It doesn't have to be
full featured browser, just enough to run forms. Hint hint hint: you can get the source code of firefox, change it
and compile it. (remove their logos and so on.)

Open the OBIEE 11G RPD (offline/online) in Administration Tool
from window u can use PUTTY or WINSCP to open rpd in online mode...
Download.
I've just done it last week.
You will need of both versions of AdminTool.
Steps:
1) Use the 11.1.1.6 command nqudmlgen.exe (it's in AdminTool directory) for generate a text file (udml). If you have any doubts about how to use the nqudmlgen, type "nqudmlgen --help" it is very simple.
2) Then use the 11.1.1.5 command nqudmlexec.exe for generate a new rpd file.
In my case i had some erros in step two, but you can handle that editing the file and fixing the errors. I had to take off the "UPGRADE ID" for every object and delete some columns parameters.

1Z0-141 Oracle Forms: Build Internet Applications

Dear all,
I just passed the IZ0-147 exam and got the OCA certificate. I am starting to prepare another exam 1Z0-141 toward the OCP.
I am newbie to Oracle Form develop. Can anyone let me know which book or online resources I can use to prepare this exam? I installed Oracle-OraHome92 on my computer, and I used it to practice PS/SQL stuff. For prepare 1Z0- 141, is this environment enough? Should I installed some kind of web server in order to run Oracle forms internet application? I am using WinXP/IIS6.0 currently.

Actually I am looking for some basic tutorial of Forms developer. I never use that before. I haven't found which tools/package I can use to create forms. where is OC4J located?
what can OTN help on the preparing of IZ0- 141 exam? I found a course on Oracle website for that, But its price is $4,000 CDN, which I can't afford. I really want a book related to the course.

Translate Existing Oracle forms application

Hi,
I would like to know about approach i should take to convert existing oracle forms(forms6i) application and db to cater for multiple languages ,
actually the approach which i am taking is to convert forms resources(labels,texboxe) to various languages(using forms windows API) from whatever there in database.But the main issue is about db ,so can anyone help me out that.....
As far as discussion with few people ...as per them its better to create db in UTF8 characterset and that will cater all languages.
Please let me know whether this approach will work or not ....

I can't use the first option from you, because of the necessity to use SAP Logon Tickets.
If i understand everthing right, it is possible to implemant the SAP-Logon-Ticket-Libary in the integrated application. By Oracle Forms is this not possible, because it is a framework application. The authentification to the Oracle Forms application is transferred over the Oracle Application Server. It is also no possiblity to implement the libary in the application server.
Today i talked to the Oracle Support and they said that one solution is to use the Oracle Access Management as Middle-Software between SAP EP and Oracle Application Server.
What do you think about this solution? It is really not possbile to integrate Oracle forms in SAP EP with SAP-Logon-Ticket without an extra software?

OLE Containers in Oracle Forms 6i

Hello,
We have an Oracle Forms 6i application which stores a large number of documents in LONG RAW columns in Oracle 10g using serialized OLE Container objects. Is there a way to automate the extraction of those documents (PDF and DOC) from the database to the file system?

If all you want to do is extract the documents from the Long Raw columns, you can use UTL_FILE to extract the binary content to the file system. You would have to loop through the records in your table to extract each file. Take a look at article Export BLOB Contents Using UTL_FILE that I googled. Granted, this article discusses exporting a BLOB not a Long Raw, but the concept is the same and you should be able to modify the code sample in the article to work with your Long Raw columns.

Hi you Oracle experts,
I'm considering to upgrade my Oracle Forms/Reports application from 6i to 11g.
However, I see dozens of separated server components on the download page in OTN.
Can anyone guide me what server/developer software components should I prepare to install ?
Also, please tell me the service dependency between the server components.

It depends on which Machine you want to install. Its different for a developer and a Server.
For Forms and Reports, you can Weblogic server and install FMV with Forms and Reports builders.
