Oracle Forms Services: Forms -- Applets

Hi there, anyone of you worked with Oracle Forms Services before? I'm looking for users comments. Oracle says that there are no performance issues running the forms as applets but I was wondering if any one of you guys tried it.
Also, I was wondering what kind of web applications Oracle Forms Services was made for? I'm under the impression that it's more for private uses ( Inside a company ). Is it safe to run those applets on the web in commercial sites? Is it appropriate?
My impression is that the applets generated by Oracle FDorms Services are not meant for the worl wide web.
Please give me your thoughts on this.
Thanks!

  • How to change the parameter's value of Oracle Forms Applet?

    Hello,
    I'm working with Oracle Forms 10.1.2.3.0 and JRE 1.6.0_14, we got some performance issues and we think are related with Java, so we enabled Java trace and we realized that every time user moves the cursor from one item to another, the applet sends a request to the server. This is the request.
    network: Connecting http://server/forms/lservlet;jsessionid=e53bb50b2f95ecb357451bf21a291367cc1747d2d9956b3ba1c4a05916d87d34.e34LaheTahaLai0LaxyLbN4ObxqTe6fznA5Pp7ftolbGmkTy with proxy=DIRECT
    I want to disable these connections as Sun states that sometimes they are not needed (not sure if this is the case but we want to test it).
    I got a possible answer from a Sun forum, the possible fix is to set the following property to false:
    <APPLET ...>
    <PARAM name="codebase_lookup" value="false">
    </APPLET>
    But I don't know how to pass that parameter to Oracle Forms applet.
    Does anybody know?
    Thanks.

    You can try passing the parameter in the HTML template file ... for example in the $ORACLE_HOME/forms/server/basejpi.htm
    i.e.
    <PARAM NAME="TYPE" VALUE="%jpi_mimetype%">
    <PARAM NAME="CODEBASE" VALUE="%codebase%">
    <PARAM NAME="CODE" VALUE="oracle.forms.engine.Main" >
    <PARAM NAME="ARCHIVE" VALUE="%archive%" >
    <PARAM name="codebase_lookup" value="false">
    I have never done it myself so I do not know if it would be recognized though.

  • It looks Oracle Form/Applet  die hard versus J2EE Servlet/JSP/JSF  & AJAX

    I left the form forum for a while and am busy with transfering our Oracle web forms app to Struts based J2EE application (just because the Oracle EE AS is the moving cause, it's out of my control.). After a year or so on J2EE which I enjoyed the fresh OO coding while keep enhancing Oracle webform app in production, I have some thought on Applet vs J2EE JSP/JSF plus AJAX.
    1) JSP itself is hard to avoid the full screen refreshing even though user just does partial changes ,e.g., lists, on the screen, it has to use AJAX to do the tricks. While partial refreshing in applet is natural default behavior.
    2) Forms is really an RAD, while J2EE's IDEs does help a bit(IBM's Websphere v6 even called iRAD) which takes way longer programming time compared to Forms. One IBM's article says it trys to win the Oracle Forms developers by giving the familiar graphical way of drag/drop GUI, so IBM recognizes the RAD coding power of Oracle Forms. So, IBM promotes the RAD similar to Oracle Forms.
    3) GUI/business rules related validation: Applet offered a great advantage over JSP/ even JSF which to avoid the full screen refresh, AJAX/JavaScript is used heavily. User friendly interaction of applet is way better than J2EE.
    4) Browser's back/refresh buttons also are headache to J2EE, expecially we need to support IE and Firefox. Applet basically is not bothered by these buttons.
    Recently, I read techi news said that the new chips will make the network transfer speed 10 time faster than now-even the cell phone transfer the image will be way faster. Then I predict the applet, just like IBM's mainframe, will see its Spring again, not like now in its winter. Especially the Oracle Forms makes coding easier than pure applet coding.
    Oracle folks, kepp beefing up the Oracle Forms, don't just pay attention to JDev. J2EE IDE, most of all, remove the Oracle EE ASxx block, be open. Oracle EE ASxx is really not a pretty baby, even though so Oracle thinks it is.

    1) Why we are transfering your Oracle web forms app to Struts based J2EE application?
    Since our corporate is IBM world-DB2/UDB, WebSphere AS (WAS) etc. It only allows Oracle Forms/reports servers to be compatible with the infrastructure. It does not allow to purchase another EE app server(espeically LDAP). We could not upgrade our forms/reports6i to 9i or 10g.
    2.Therefore the Oracle EE AS is the moving cause, it's out of my control because I did my best to talk to Oracle sales, but no avail. I am glad that I got a good chance to beef up my J2EE Struts skills.
    If extract out the forms/report9i/10g engines from the Oracle EE AS 9i/10g, (don't attempt to bundle sell the EE AS to customers-regardless of the shrinked 9.0.4 forms/reports services version, it's still another EE AS) and make them compatible with other ASs(espcially the LDAP), then Oracle Forms will have more customers.

  • Oracle forms 10g (win Xp middle tier IE 8             Win 7- IE 8 client)

    forms services 10.1.2.0.2
    Database 11gR2 also on Win Xp pro SP3
    Hi
    I have a problem with java and Jinitiator and my understanding of what is / should be happening.
    In the file forms/server/formsweb.cfg see below. I can alter the parameter
    baseHTMLjinitiator=basejini.htm
    ###baseHTMLjinitiator=basejpi.htm
    between the two alternatives. As it stands as shown the IE8 on the middle tier and on the database PC both work as near correctly as i can tell. On the Win 7 client IE 8 however crashes. switch it to the other way around and the
    win 7 works and the win xp on the database server stops with frm-92095 error version number too low. while on the middle tier Xp PC a blank doucument is displayed.
    How can i have both working at the same time please. I you need more information i will happily supply it.

    You have a mixture of problems here.
    1. Oracle Jinitiator is not supported for use on Windows 7
    2. JRE 1.7 is not supported for use with any version of Forms on any platform. Be sure you do not have this version installed.
    3. JRE 1.6 is not supported for use with Forms 10.1.2.0.2, however is supported with 10.1.2.3 (10.1.2.0.2 + patch ID 5983622) and only with IE 8
    4. In order to use Win 7 with Forms 10 in a certified and supported manner, you must use 10.1.2.3 (meaning 10.1.2.0.2 + patch ID 5983622).
    In short, my recommendation would be the following:
    o Patch to 10.1.2.3 (assuming you have access to MyOracleSupport)
    o Don't bother trying to use Oracle Jinitiator as it is old and has been desupported for a long time.
    o Uninstall any instances of Jinitiator as it can cause conflicts with other JRE installations.
    o Uninstall all instances of JRE 1.7. Reconfig your formsweb.cfg to use the JRE (Java Plugin) 1.6.0

  • WebUtil:  oracle.forms.webutil.host.Host bean not found

    Hi. This is my first attempt using WebUtil. The following code is in my When-New-Form-Instance trigger:
    client_host('N:\TTMS\ITS\vbasic\compiled\MenuUpdate.exe');
    This is the error I receive:
    oracle.forms.webutil.host.Host bean not found
    I've included my formsweb.cfg below for your reference. Note that the application is using the [ttmsmenu] configuration.
    Thanks in advance for your help with this problem.
    ***FORMSWEB.CFG***
    # $Id: formsweb.cfg 15-apr-2005.13:17:30 pkuhn Exp $
    # formsweb.cfg defines parameter values used by the FormsServlet (frmservlet)
    # This section defines the Default settings. Any of them may be overridden in the
    # following Named Configuration sections. If they are not overridden, then the
    # values here will be used.
    # The default settings comprise two types of parameters: System parameters,
    # which cannot be overridden in the URL, and User Parameters, which can.
    # Parameters which are not marked as System parameters are User parameters.
    # SYSTEM PARAMETERS
    # These have fixed names and give information required by the Forms
    # Servlet in order to function. They cannot be specified in the URL query
    # string. But they can be overridden in a named configuration (see below).
    # Some parameters specify file names: if the full path is not given,
    # they are assumed to be in the same directory as this file. If a path
    # is given, then it should be a physical path, not a URL.
    # USER PARAMETERS
    # These match variables (e.g. %form%) in the baseHTML file. Their values
    # may be overridden by specifying them in the URL query string
    # (e.g. "http://myhost.mydomain.com/forms/frmservlet?form=myform&width=700")
    # or by overriding them in a specific, named configuration (see below)

    Dumb dumb dumb.
    I was running this form out of Form Builder 10g. At some point I changed the Application Server URL (Edit => Preferences => Runtime menus) from:
    http://ssbuechl2.div16.ibm.com:8889/forms/frmservlet?config=ttmsmenu
    to:
    http://ssbuechl2.div16.ibm.com:8889/forms/frmservlet?
    So my customized configuration with all the WebUtil references was not being referenced and I was getting the error.
    Dumb dumb dumb.

  • Forms crashing while executing Oracle Forms Functional script in OTM

    Hello,
    We're trying to execute Oracle Ebiz forms related functional test scripts developed in Open Script in Oracle Test Manager.
    Exactly when the forms get launched, the JRE is getting crashed, and the script is failing. What could be the reason.
    I've added the class path in Java control panel for the JRE which comes with OATS, and enabled 1.6.33 version, which works absolutely fine when same script is run using OpenScript and not through OTM.
    Also, in windows services we have provided the valid admin login credentials to the run the service as, instead of local machine user.
    Any help and insight on this problem would be of great help.
    Regards,
    Nishant

    Yes as mentioned i have used run time setting "-formsft.startup_timeout 30".
    Per release notes, i am starting the agent service using the command line "C:\OracleATS\agentmanager\bin\AgentManagerService.exe -c
    C:\OracleATS\agentmanager\bin\AgentManagerService.conf".
    But what's happening is, OTM is not actually waiting for the applet to load. The moment the forms are invoked and about to load after signing in and selecting the responsibility and menu, the script and forms are crashing. OTM is giving the below error though its not waiting to connect to the forms.
    Failure when running child script GL_JournalEntry_Batch. Caused by: Failed to connect to the Oracle Forms applet after 30 seconds. Verify that the applet launching page opens, and that the Forms Startup Timeout setting is high enough for this site

  • Passing parameters to web based oracle forms

    Hi,
    How can I pass parameters from web page to oracle form applet? OR is there anyway i can know (within a form) if that form is run from a client/server or from web. This is just to set some parameters depending on the condition: client/server or web application.
    thank you

    To know if you are on the Web use the get_application_property built-in, check out the online help for it.
    To pass parameters - if you are using the forms servlet you can pass parameters on the URL that calls your Forms application.

  • How can hide the word oracleas forms service in applet

    my dears :
    if I want to appear the name of our company in applete instead of this word oracleas forms service
    how
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Copy your image (either .gif or .jpg) in %devsuite_home%/forms/java for example for me it's : C:\oracle\DevSuiteHome_1\forms\java
    Then in your formsweb.cfg point to your image begining with /forms :
    # Forms applet parameter
    background=/forms/java/logocca.gif
    Restart your oc4j
    Launch your application.
    NB : The names are case sensitive, i.e /forms/java/logocca.GIF will not work
    It's important to mention /forms/java/ because your c:/ is not seen by the web server

  • Calling web service from oracle forms 10g

    Problem Description:
    I'm following the steps as per the doc:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/10gr2/howto/webservicefromforms/ws_10_1_3_from_forms.html
    to create a java stub to call external web service and then use java importer in oracle forms to call this web service from oracle forms.
    WSDL for external web service used is http://gend:83/DesignService.svc?wsdl
    The service was developed by us.
    Calling the web service using JDeveloper works fine but when I complie in Oracle Forms it returns wrong number of types of arguments in call SENDHELLO.
    The code from oracle form to call web service is as below:
    DECLARE
    jo ora_java.jobject;
    xo ora_java.jobject;
    rv varchar2(2000);
    ex ora_java.jobject;
    str varchar2(100);
    BEGIN
    jo := GendServiceClient.new;
    rv := GendServiceClient.sendHello('Nora');
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN ORA_JAVA.JAVA_ERROR then
    message('Unable to call out to Java, ' ||ORA_JAVA.LAST_ERROR);
    WHEN ORA_JAVA.EXCEPTION_THROWN then
    ex := ORA_JAVA.LAST_EXCEPTION;
    message(Exception_.toString(ex));
    END;
    Any help/ideas on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    My primary skill is PL/SQL but the only information I found on Oracle's site to call a web service from a 10g Form was creating a jar file and importing the java class. Since I don't want to ask our corporate IT to make changes on the UNIX box for the jar files I went a different route.
    I use UTL_HTTP.BEGIN_REQUEST to call a URL then load I load the data to a table as a CLOB since we have more than 4000 characters. Now I need to parse the XML and load it into a form. I have never done this so if there is a helpful site please let me know. I have looked at several sites but none do what I want.
    Thanks

  • Calling web service from oracle forms fails with ORA_JAVA.JAVA_ERROR

    Problem Description:
    I'm following the steps as per the doc:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/10gr2/howto/webservicefromforms/ws_10_1_3_from_forms.html
    to create a java stub to call external web service and then use java importer in oracle forms to call this web service from oracle forms.
    WSDL for external web service used is http://www.webservicex.net/CurrencyConverter.asmx?wsdl
    Calling the web service using JDeveloper works fine but from Oracle Forms returns ORA_JAVA.JAVA_ERROR; Unable to call out to Java, Invalid object type for argument 1
    The code from oracle form to call web service is as below:
    DECLARE
    jo ora_java.jobject;
    rv ora_java.jobject;
    ex ora_java.jobject;
    outString varchar2(2000);
    BEGIN
    jo:= CurrencyConvertorStub.new;
    --This will get the exchange rate from US Dollars to UK Sterling.

    ex := ORA_JAVA.LAST_EXCEPTION;
    outString := Exception_.toString(ex);
    message(outString);
    END;
    Any help/ideas on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Yes, it is the message line - so basically this call fails => rv:= CurrencyConvertorStub.ConversionRate(jo,'CAD','USD'); and control goes in the exception block
    WHEN ORA_JAVA.JAVA_ERROR then
    message('Unable to call out to Java, ' ||ORA_JAVA.LAST_ERROR);
    Below is the code from java stub that was generated using JDeveloper by using web services stub/skeleton and associating the WSDL
    public Double ConversionRate(String FromCurrency, String ToCurrency) throws Exception
    URL endpointURL = new URL(endpoint);
    Envelope requestEnv = new Envelope();
    Body requestBody = new Body();
    Vector requestBodyEntries = new Vector();
    String wrappingName = "ConversionRate";
    String targetNamespace = "http://www.webserviceX.NET/";
    Vector requestData = new Vector();
    requestData.add(new Object[] {"FromCurrency", FromCurrency});
    requestData.add(new Object[] {"ToCurrency", ToCurrency});
    requestBodyEntries.addElement(toElement(wrappingName, targetNamespace, requestData));
    requestBody.setBodyEntries(requestBodyEntries);
    requestEnv.setBody(requestBody);
    Message msg = new Message();
    msg.setSOAPTransport(m_httpConnection);
    msg.send(endpointURL, "http://www.webserviceX.NET/ConversionRate", requestEnv);
    Envelope responseEnv = msg.receiveEnvelope();
    Body responseBody = responseEnv.getBody();
    Vector responseData = responseBody.getBodyEntries();
    return (Double)fromElement((Element)responseData.elementAt(0), java.lang.Double.class);
    }

  • Calling a web service in Oracle forms

    Hi,
    I find problems when trying to use a web service in the oracle forms. The problem is in the "select ...". the error shows that the type must be an sql authorised type. can somebody help me? this is the source of my program:
    declare
    lespays ORA_JAVA.JARRAY;
    longueur number;
    i number;
    monpays ora_java.jobject;
    begin
    lespays:=getpays;
    monpays:=ora_java.get_object_array_element(lespays,0);
    select p.nom_pays from pays p,(select tpaysuser.getcodepays(monpays) as code_pays from dual) gp where p.code_pays=gp.code_pays;
    end;

    ok, so you have at least 2 solutions:
    1. you get the data into a loop through your Java array.
    2. you use the EXEC_SQL package function to create a dynamic SQL cursor
       Select ... from the_table where code in ('c1', ..., 'cn')Francois

  • Calling a Web service from Oracle Forms....

    Hi ,
    I 've tried to follow the steps described in the link:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe_as_10g/deploy/callws_fromforms/forms_webservice.htm
    which uses : a)JDeveloper 9.04 and b)Oracle Forms 9.0.4.
    However , i have installed Oracle Forms 10.1.2 and JDeveloper 10.1.2. (Developer Suite 10.1.2.).
    The problem is that in JDeveloper 10.1.2. the type of applications and menus and properties and.... have changed and i cannot finish the tutorial!!!!!
    Is there any document/example showing how to create a web service in JDeveloper and call it form Oracle Forms....?????
    NOTE: I have also installed JDeveloper 10.1.3...
    Many thanks ,
    Simon

    Check the JDeveloper tutorials page on OTN (linked from the JDeveloper home page) and you'll find a tutorial on creating a web service.
    The steps to invoke it from Forms should be the same.
    googling on Oracle Forms web services will bring a few more samples.

  • Call a web services from oracle forms 10

    I have to call a web services from oracle forms.
    The version of the database is oracle 11gr2. the version of the forms is 10.1.2.0.2.
    I allready did the proxy creation and the import class within forms.
    I have 2 questions:
    1.
    I created the following procedure:
    PROCEDURE call_WS IS
         vobject1 ORA_JAVA.JOBJECT;
         vobject2 ORA_JAVA.JOBJECT;
    BEGIN
    vobject1 := WSEvaluarReglaCondicionComerci.new();
    vobject2 := WSEvaluarReglaCondicionComerci.listarValoresAtributoEvento(vobject1, 702, 2217, null, null, null);
    END;
    the function I calling:
    FUNCTION listarValoresAtributoEvento(
    obj ORA_JAVA.JOBJECT,
    a0 ORA_JAVA.JOBJECT,
    a1 ORA_JAVA.JOBJECT,
    a2 ORA_JAVA.JOBJECT,
    a3 VARCHAR2,
    a4 ORA_JAVA.JOBJECT) RETURN ORA_JAVA.JOBJECT;
    Note that the parameters is ORA_JAVA_JOBJECT and I need to send numbers. I understand that when I import the classes, because in the WS those parameters are defined as BigDecimal, Forms understand them as java object but when I compile it reports the error: "numero o tipo de argumento erroneo al llamar..." type error.
    So the question is, how Cast the numbers to Java Object to send them.
    I have read in a web page that one option is to change in the web service the type of the parameters but that is not an option.
    2.
    The WS returns a super big XML as answer, so how I can parse the result into an Object type?...
    The object structure is:
    TYPE opciones_obj AS OBJECT
    (strindice VARCHAR2 (4000),
    nombrecompleto VARCHAR2 (4000),
    nombre VARCHAR2 (4000),
    strtipodato VARCHAR2 (4000),
    codigoopcion NUMBER,
    floatval FLOAT,
    strtipo VARCHAR2 (4000),
    strval VARCHAR2 (4000));
    and the tags to extract is:
    COLUMNS strindice VARCHAR2 (4000)
    PATH 'ns2:mapEntry[ns2:key="strIndice"]/ns2:value',
    nombrecompleto VARCHAR2 (4000)
    PATH 'ns2:mapEntry[ns2:key="nombreCompleto"]/ns2:value',
    nombre VARCHAR2 (4000)
    PATH 'ns2:mapEntry[ns2:key="nombre"]/ns2:value',
    strtipodato VARCHAR2 (4000)
    PATH 'ns2:mapEntry[ns2:key="strTipoDato"]/ns2:value',
    codigoopcion NUMBER
    PATH 'ns2:mapEntry[ns2:key="codigoOpcion"]/ns2:value',
    floatval FLOAT
    PATH 'ns2:mapEntry[ns2:key="floatVal"]/ns2:value',
    strtipo VARCHAR2 (4000)
    PATH 'ns2:mapEntry[ns2:key="strTipo"]/ns2:value',
    strval VARCHAR2 (4000)
    PATH 'ns2:mapEntry[ns2:key="strVal"]/ns2:value') x;
    xquery / xmltype aparently is not an option because the xml is too big.
    I will appreciate your answers.
    Thanks.
