Oracle Forms6i with Cognos Incompatibility issue

The existing Oracle Forms version being used is 6.x, which is not supported/old. Also, following the recent Cognos upgrade from 7.0 to 7.4, Oracle Forms and Cognos Impromptu are now incompatible. Oracle Forms is now installed on the users PC and to use Cognos Impromptu the users have to access it via Citrix. So, Oracle Forms needs to be upgraded to the latest possible supported version. Pls suggest the various steps involved the upgration of Forms 6i to 10g and importanct environment set up so that Cognos and Forms to work in the same environment/server.

Please, post this question in the appropriate forum. This forum is for internationalization issues.

  • Very Frustrated with Leopard Incompatibility Issue

We, as a school, decided to go with a Mac lab in our art room and of course Leopard is the OS that came with it. Only to find out that several of our programs that we used, that is labeled OS X compatible, is NOT Leopard 10.5 compatible...geesh and yet Apple is bashing Vista for compatibility problems. Before they go busting on Windows they need to fix their own problems, sorry...
    <Edited by Moderator>
I know Vista has major bugs too and this is NOT a pro Vista comment...it was more of a look in the mirror first.

As I suppose you well know by now, an "OS X compatible" label on a software box does not tell the whole story. It has always been so & always will be. No OS can maintain backwards compatibility indefinitely & at the same time move forward without collecting baggage that stifles innovation. Eventually, it becomes too costly, both in development effort & in performance penalties, to maintain all the API's to support the old OS version.
Actually, that is exactly what is wrong with Vista: Microsoft last "pruned" the OS of support for legacy technologies so long ago that the only way to make Vista a modern, speedy OS was to remove support for just about everything non-essential to get it to run at all. It is like an airplane prototype that included so many extra parts that it was too heavy to get off the ground, so the designers just kept removing things until it did.
Apple's more gradual approach (even though "OS 9 is dead," Tiger still supports Classic) is still a little painful for Mac users but nowhere near what PC users are experiencing.
In this sense, the ads are right: Vista is just Microsloth's latest effort to play catch-up with issues Apple long ago planned for & dealt with much more effectively.

Here there are 2 tables involved
    1.Table1 - 1 crore records
    2.Table2 - 4 crore records
In form procedure one cursor bulid and fetch is done directly and assign the values to form block fields.
    Below i've pasted the query

If the database is capable of executing 562,238 update statements in one minute, then that's pretty good, don't you think.
Your real problem is in the application code which probably looks something like this in pseudocode:
for i in (some set containing 562,238 rows)
    loop
<your update statement with all the bind variables>
end loop;If you transform your code to do a single update statement, you'll gain a lot of seconds.

  • Unable to connect forms6i with oracle 10g

    hi:
i am facing a problem to connect forms6i with oracle 10.2 g. i already make a entry in TNSNAMES.ora file in forms folder.
while i am trying to connect it dispaly "ORA-12203: TNS:unable to conect to destination" error.
    please help. Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Abhishek

    Hi
i already make a entry in TNSNAMES.ora Another option...
    1. Pls Verify that the net service name you entered was correct including no spaces.
2.Verify that the ADDRESS portion of the connect descriptor which corresponds to the net service name is correct.
3.Ensure that the destination process (for example the listener) is running at the remote node and the cabel of ur local net work connecting to ur server is well connected and working well.
    4. Test ur local network cabel and try to make the connection to another computer set.
5.u can check from Start > control panel > administrative tools > services that the service name is started or not if it is Started Restarted or refresh it.
    6. Ensure that the listener is running at the remote node and that the ADDRESS parameters specified in TNSNAMES.ORA are correct.
    and the more ....
    Hope this helps...

  • SQLLoader issues of Oracle RAC with ASM

One of our client wants to use Oracle RAC with ASM for our application, i just want to know if there would be any two-phased commit transactions and SQL*Loader issues in ASM.
    Database is Oracle 10g

ASM works only at storage layer and has nothing to do with:
    - distributed transactions
    - client executable that connects to database instance: SQL*Loader, SQL*Plus, etc.
RAC has also nothing to do with distributed transactions: a RAC database is a single database with multiple instances but still a single database; there is no need to use distributed transactions because you have a RAC database.

  • Incompatibility issues with the new flash pplayer

Ever since I installed the new version of flash 11.5 I have had major issues with watching video etc. I am also into astronomy. Myself and many others have paid a lot of money to use Sloohs robotic telescopes in their canary islands observatory.
I now cannot enjoy this because the flash player has compatibility issues with your browser. Me and quite a lot of others are getting rather annyoed this opportunity is being ruined because adobe have released a version of flash without checking it's compatibility with all browsers first.
May I suggest that you contact them and ask that you are notified about new versions and release dates to ensure that you can make necessary amendments to prevent incompatibility issues.
That way lots of angry people like me will not be complaning.

At work, symantec endpoint. At home, norton. Ever since firefox 15, no flash version works except for 11.2. Now that ff18 was pushed out, it "forces" the upgrade to 11.5, and absolutely will not accept anything less. But as with any version of flash that was not 11.2, it just causes firefox to freeze up completely.

Theres a message coming from this yahoo messenger "that certain transactions was Approved by a USER". Is this possible to use the Yahoo Messenger with Oracle Forms6i?
    Thank you.
    Lala

I know there is a 'Oracle XMPP/Jabber Instant Messenger' available for the Oracle database on sourceforge.net. You can then sent message from the database to i.e. a google talk client.
And I also added a pluggable java component inside Oracle Forms 10gR2. [http://www.screentoaster.com/watch/stUEJUR0NIR1pbR19bWlpYU1dS/chat_bean_inside_oracle_forms|http://www.screentoaster.com/watch/stUEJUR0NIR1pbR19bWlpYU1dS/chat_bean_inside_oracle_forms]but I don't know if it can be added to Forms 6i.
    Please mark if it helps.

  • DB connection issue for Oracle 11g with jdk1.3

    Hi Experts,
I have jdk1.3 installed. I need to connect to Oracle 11g, but there is no driver class for Oracle 11g with jdk1.3. I have Classes12.jar for Oracle 9i with jdk1.3. When I try to connect to Oracle 11g with jdk1.3 using Classes12.jar, I get the below error
    Error:
    java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: Connection refused(DESCRIPTION=(TMP=)(VSNNUM=185599744)(ERR=12514)(ERROR_STACK=(ERROR=(CODE=12514)(EMFI=4))))

    at oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleConnection.<init>(OracleConnection.java:334)....
Please help to solve this issue. This is urgent.
    Thanks.

    "connection refused" is quite a clear error message;
    - either you configure a wrong host name or port number
    - the database isn't even running
    - a firewall is blocking you
In any case no connection can be made to the database, which is hardly a programming or driver problem. You'll have to figure out for whatever external reason you cannot create a connection to the database. Good luck.

  • Version incompatibility issue with Interop.SAPbobsCOM.dll in SBO 2004

    Hi,
I have encountered an incompatibility issue in DI API 2004 across different patch level-versions. Originally, I developed an application in SBO 2004 pl4 environment. Now, some of the customers who were installing the application, notified me that the application has a login problem. It turned out that the CompanyClass.connect() method returns an error message "object reference not set to an instance of an object", when the DI API version installed in the production environment is higher (in this case, pl7) than the DI API version which was used in the development environment.
I figured out that the problem can be fixed by replacing the Interop.SAPbobsCOM.dll file in the application directory by a newer version that reflects the DI API that is installed in the system. However, it seems a rather lousy workaround, if the customer needs to manually replace the dll. Maybe the installer could be customized to "sniff" the correct DI API level, but this too would be a pretty kludgy solution.
Does anyone know a better solution to this problem ?
    Regards,
    Henry

normally this is not a problem as long as they don't change the signatures on the DI-API (which they said they wouldn't) but it appears in P5 they changed that signature... we noticed some enums that got added and a few minor changes.

  • Can't Use UPK with Cognos Reports

I am trying to use UPK to record Cognos reports. If I have UPK open, the Cognos report freezes and will not run, so I'm unable to use UPK to record these reports. I have tried logging on as a remote user, or opening the report without UPK open, then opening and trying to record, and nothing works. Has anyone had this issue with Cognos or other web-based applications/reports?

I'm not familiar with any issues related to Cognos. I would suggest opening a support ticket: http://support.oracle.com/
