Oracle free version

Does there exist any free light versions of Oracle Database? I am trying to learn Oracle and have a few books, but without the tool itself in front of you it is not that easy, I think hands on experience using it would be much easier. Theer is MSDE for SQL Server just wondered if there was similar for Oracle

Take a moment to actually read the license agreement when you download. XE is the usual "personal" version and is probably pretty good from an apps view, but if you want to study from a DBA view, I'd get the full enterprise edition. I have a full virtual oracle lab running on my WinXP laptop, it is fully legal, and it cost me nothing.
Download and install VMplayer from VMware (free)
Download Oracle Linux from Oracle. (free. You only pay if you want support)
Create a virtual linux server
Download Oracle Enterprise Edition (free for personal study) and install it on the virtual Linux server.
This setup will give you a much more realistic environment in which to hone your DBA skills.

  • Where can I download a free version of Oracle to ODBC link to Oracle 9.20

    Hi
We use a CAD system which is based around an Oracle database version Oracle 9.2. I have an access database that I need to link a table within the CAD system. The access database will be deployed around our buisness to users that do not have a full Oracle install.
I am trying to find a free download version of Oracle and the ODBC links to use on our XP PC's.
    Does one exist?
    Regards,
    Kevin

    Hi Justin,
In answer to your questions, the database server has a full installation of Oracle 9.2. We have a limited number of workstations that have a fully licensed Oracle client installation (required to use our PDM system). On these workstations we can successfully configure an ODBC connection to the Oracle database on the server and link tables in MS Access. However the majority of our PCs do not have any Oracle client installed, nor do we have any further Oracle client licenses to install with (we do have the installation media for both the server and client software).
We have attempted to use Orcale Instant Client (and ODBC addon) believing that we do not need licenses for this, at both the latest version 11.1.0.70 and at the earliest version we could find 10.1.0.5 but neither was successful in making an ODBC connection to the Oracle 9.2 database. Is this because we are using the wrong version of the Instant Client or is it just because we cannot configure it correctly? Are we correct in believing that we do not need to purchase licenses for Instant Client?
If we are way off the mark, what can you suggest?
    Many thanks in advance.

how can i donwload a free version of Oracle database as i want to practice sql at home

what is the config info of this oracle database?Who knows? It's your database.
you indicated that you don't know how to connect to the database. What have you used? What have you tried? Most important -- what documentation have you referenced?
    Here's a hint:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/appdev.112/e10766/tdddg_connecting.htm#CEGGIIEJ
Please do more than just read the link. Take note of where it is.
Learning how to look things up in the documentation is time well spent investing in your career. To that end, you should drop everything else you are doing and do the following:
    Go to tahiti.oracle.com.
Drill down to your product and version.
    <b><i><u>BOOKMARK THAT LOCATION</u></i></b>
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what is available here. Take special note of the "books" and "search" tabs. Under the "books" tab you will find the complete documentation library.
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what <b><i><u>kind</u></i></b> of documentation is available there by simply browsing the titles under the "Books" tab.
Open the Reference Manual and spend a few minutes looking through the table of contents to get familiar with what <b><i><u>kind</u></i></b> of information is available there.
Do the same with the SQL Reference Manual.
Do the same with the Utilities manual.
You don't have to read the above in depth. They are <b><i><u>reference</b></i></u> manuals. Just get familiar with <b><i><u>what</b></i></u> is there to <b><i><u>be</b></i></u> referenced. Ninety percent of the questions asked on this forum can be answered in less than 5 minutes by simply searching one of the above manuals.
Then set yourself a plan to dig deeper.
    - Read a chapter a day from the Concepts Manual.
    - Take a look in your alert log. One of the first things listed at startup is the initialization parms with non-default values. Read up on each one of them (listed in your alert log) in the Reference Manual.
    - Take a look at your listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, and sqlnet.ora files. Go to the Network Administrators manual and read up on everything you see in those files.
    - When you have finished reading the Concepts Manual, do it again.

    Please help me....

    Hi,
I am new member of this group , I want to install demo ( free) version of oracle apps on window 7 for practise .
Please help me....Oracle Apps 11i is no longer available for download and you will have to log a SR to get the Media Pack, so go with R12 instead which can be downloaded from:
    Oracle e-Delivery Website
    http://edelivery.oracle.com
Oracle installation documents can be found at:
Oracle Applications Installation Guide: Using Rapid Install

Oracle E-Business Suite Installation and Upgrade Notes Release 12 (12.1.1) for Microsoft Windows Server (32-bit) [ID 761567.1]
Please note that Windows 7 is not certified as an application/database tier node, so go with one of the certified OS as per the doc referenced above.
If you want to access 11i/R12 instance, you may connect to Solutions Beacon instances (You must get a CSI number from Oracle Support to access those instances).

  • Free version of oracle database.

    Hi everbody,
Can anybody tell if there is a free version of Oracle database which can be used for training purpose.
This software is required for the hands on purpose for the associates.
Moreover, it would be kind enough of you to suggest that which is the most suitable version for installing on CentOS 6.3 64 bit ?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

What is the purpose/content of the training ? For self-learning purposes, all of the database versions available at Oracle Downloads | Software | Oracle are "free". Currently, no Oracle database software is certified/supported on CentOS, although folks have managed to install it on this OS, with the assumption that they will have to troubleshoot any issues on their own. Again, for self-learning purposes, Oracle Linux is freely available at https://linux.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=101:3

  • Free version of oracle for windows?

Is there a free version I can download to my home pc to practice on?

As long as it is for training or evaluation and NO development of production software, oracle doesn't charge anything to download their database software. The downside, is that you can't download any patches without a paid up metalink account. That being said, then simply go to the link below and download any version that you want.

  • Can we use hints in oracle 11g version ?

can we use hints in oracle 11g version ? is it working ??

Why do you ask these questions? Have you looked at the SQL Reference Guide and Performance Tuning Guide for your Oracle version - both which covers using hints?
Have you see a statement that is not supported? Or does not work?
Or are you simply doing idle speculation and expecting forum members to spend their free time in answering a basic question where the answer is ridiculously simply to find?

  • OWB free version 10.2

    Dear -
I am presently evaluating OWB V 10 R2 for a fitment for data transformation (I know we have more recent releases available) and was wondering where can I find information about the free release. I tried to search the forum as well and was not able to get any relevant information.
What I am looking for is: -
    1. What are drawbacks/limitations of using a free version as compared to a licensed copy?
    2. Where can I find more information about the internal job execution mechanism by Oracle Workflow Manager (used to execute OWB job in my current scenario)?
    3. What benefits I can have if I procure licenses for OWB?
    4. Is there a possibility, as I heard, that jobs stay most of time in waiting state with the free release, due to limitations on number of process which can execute at any moment of time?
    Any help is highly appreciated.
Thanks upfront for all your suggestions and pointers.
    Regards

    Hi,
there are no diferent OWB releases - "free" and "licensed". Instead there is a single OWB release but to legally use several features (like SCD type 2/3, pluggable mapping, variables in processflows, configurations, etc.) you must buy ODI Enterprise Edition license.
With most Oracle database (except free Oracle XE) you get free of charge OWB Basic ETL (correspondes to OWB10gR1 features set).
Link to license rules is placed on [OWB product page|http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/warehouse/overview/index.html] (look for pink square with hedaing "Understand OWB Feature Groups and Required Licenses"), this link direct you to these documents

  • Alternative free version for TOAD for non-DBA purpose

    Hi,
I am a new junior DBA in my company. i have lots of oracle developers who needs a tool like TOAD to work with oracle but should not have DBA facilities.
and also need to have something which is for long term and not like TOAD freeware which we have to re-install every 3 months.
I have sql developer and plsql developer in mind.
does someone know of any other tools that can be used like TOAD with non-DBA privilieges.
    Thanks in advance,
    Philip.

We use PL/SQL Developer from allround automations, it's not free, but it is much cheaper than TOAD (Does Toad still have the clause where you can keep reinstalling the free version, as long as you don't have more than 5 people using it in your organistation?). The company are very flexible about licensing too - we recently whent from 10 to 20 licences, about 3 years after getting the original 10 user pack, and they let us just pay the difference between the 10 user pack and 20 user - don't know many companies who would do that.
We have been using it for a few years now, and it works great - both for people doing PL/SQL development, and for people just using it for ad-hoc querying and support purposes.
But if SQL Developer had been available when I started looking at the available tools I probably have gone with that - you can't beat the price, and you know the company isn't going to go bust!

  • Oracle free download and commercial???

Oracle license for single processor is 40000 dollors.
Also we can download the database free on the otn.oracle.com.
What is the differece between the commercial version and the free one for download on the web??? Is it only the matter of support or the free version on the web has some drawbacks for example less storage or limited connections???
Please tell me about this question.
    Thanks in advance.

The only free as in free beer version of the Oracle database is the Express edition. This is limited to a single CPU, a single database per server and storage capped at 4GB. The functionality is a slightly restricted subset of the Oracel Standard edition. The complete limitations are documented.
Everything else you must pay for. We can download the full Oracle database but we must pay for a licence unless we intend to use it solely for educational purposes or for the development of a single "proof of concept" application.

Unable to use free version regardless of browser on any machine. I login with adobe id but then the loading screen just hangs. can't get any further - Tried all suggestions like clearing browser caches but no change.
Got a couple of projects i wanted to try this on and if the software works I will probably take a subscription but considering this isn't working at all will look elsewhere.
Also - adobe live chat support is useless.

    Hi,
please share the Adobe ID that you are using with DL-AdobeStory-support<at>adobe<dot>com and we will investigate the issue.

  • TS1702 When I backed up my ipad because I thought I had a problem with it in which I didnt, I went to restore my ipad and now some of my app that I had purchased are not there, the free version is on my Ipad and Icloud but not the purchased version?

I thought I had a problem with my Ipad in which I didnt, so I backed up my Ipad and restored it, but now Some of my apps that I have purchased are not available only the free version, not the purchased version. I would have to purchase again and it is not backed up into my Icloud either ?

I assume that you will have to set up as new since it will not let you restore from the backup. Then after you set it up, you can restore from the iCloud backup. The backup should not disappear be use you are setting this device up as new. Your backup should still be in iCloud.
However, after you activate the iPd and update the software, you will have to erase the device in order to restore from the Cloud backup, that is the only way to get to the iCloud backup.
Copied from the article that linked you to this discussion ....
    Resolution
Update your device to the latest version of iOS to be able to restore the backup.

  • How does one use the free version of OmniGraffle without instructions?

I found OmniGraffle loaded onto my new PBk G4 (apparently for free) and, after trying to use it, have a few questions.
    1. Is there an instruction booklet/program for the supplied version besides what little is included in its Help menu?
    2. It came as v3.2. When I checked on the Web site for instructions on using it, it refered to v4 only, which appears to require a purchase.
I'm uncomfortable being in this Catch-22 situation. If there's a charge for a beginner to use v4, how can an Apple purchaser with v3.2 find a step-by-step user manual for the free version of OmniGraffle supplied on my computer?

    Dear Tuttle and Tom:
You both sent me to the appropriate place. I downloaded the instruction file (PDF). Many thanks.
Incidentally, I then downloaded the upgrade offered at the top of that page (from v3.2 to v3.2.4) but after ±90% of the necessary time needed, it shut down with a "Failed to Mount" message (whatever that might mean). It took more than 28 minutes to download that much even though I'm using DSL! Have either of you upgraded to v3.2.4 with or without difficulty?
Thanks again for your right-on assistance.

  • Hi, I don't know how to find a specific security patch to apply to my Oracle database version to fix a vulnerability

Hi, I don't know how to find a specific security patch to apply to my Oracle database version 11.2.0.2.0 (on windows server 2003 32 bits) to fix the following vulnerability:
    Risk: High
    Application: oracle_tnslsnr
    Port: 1521
    Protocol: tcp
    Synopsis:
It is possible to register with a remote Oracle TNS listener.
    Description:
The remote Oracle TNS listener allows service registration from a remote host. An attacker can exploit this issue to divert data from a
legitimate database server or client to an attacker-specified system.
Successful exploits will allow the attacker to manipulate database instances, potentially facilitating man-in-the-middle, sessionhijacking,
or denial of service attacks on a legitimate database server.
    Solution:
Apply the work-around in Oracle's advisory.
    Thank you for your help
