Oracle heterogeneous connectivity for DB2
Hi,
We want to connect DB2 database with Oracle 8i. We have read that it is possible with Generic connectivity and Transparent gateways.
Any one knows the differece between the two when connecting to DB2?
Which one is simpler if we have to use dblink concept
Thanks,
Ajay
Dear Ajay,
I used heterogenous connectivity to connect to DB2 but it is very very slow. And checked about Oracle gateway to Db2 and came to know that it is also very slow. The next solution was using ODBC to db2 using Forms 6i Patch 13. The connectivity is very good otherwise u can use DB2 Information Integrator software (cost about $20-50 K). If you need any more information please let me know.

RanaHSODBC/DG4ODBC is generic connectivity and you find the generic setup in:
Note.109730.1 How to setup generic connectivity (HSODBC) for 32 bit Windows (Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003)
There is nothing sepcial for DBF's. Just define a system ODBC DSN using a DBASE ODBC driver pointing to the DBF file.
The rest is absolute similar to the note.
If you have already a running HSODBC/DG4ODBC the quickest test is to just define a new system dsn for the DBF file, then change in the init>hsodbc/dg4odbc>.ora file the HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO parameter pointing to the newly created system DSN. Last step is within the Oracle db to define a database link. -

RanaI wouldn't think so these days ... however, you could try posting this in the heterogeneous services - which is somewhere on OTN.
If it we me, I'd convert the DBF into something easier to use with Oracle : like XML or CSV -
Sybase oracle heterogeneous connection
Hi all,
I created a connection from oracle to sybase using oracle heterogeneous connection. However I have a problem with numeric characters, I cannot get floating parts of numbers.
when I use create as syntax it maps to correct data types(with the correct precision and scale) but 12,49 comes like 12,00.
My Database is 10.2.0.3.0 32bit windows
Any help would be appreciated..The problem was because of language settings. Setting NLS_LANG in the registery to correct setting solved the problem..

IBM DB2 Database installed on the
same machine.But while connecting
through odbc driver it gives "Invalid
session id,access denied"and does not
get connected.Same message comes when
one gets connected to sql but it runs fine.
I have tried in two ways to configure ODBC.
1. Using Client Configuration Assistant
of DB2.
2. Usgin OCA and Intersolv odbc
driver coming along with the cd.
Forms and reports are 6i and
db2 version is 5.
Thanks in advance.

Source system Connection for DB2
Hi All,
I need to create a source system for DB2 in SAP BI 7.0.
I have some information about the DB2 database but not sure if that info is sufficient to create a source system for this server.
The info I have for DB2 server SERVER1 :
FOR SERVER1:
1) Username: User01
2) DB Password: XXXXX
3) Conn. Info : BCDT
I could get the info that database name is entered with the parameter u201CDB2_DB_NAME=u201D (is that right ?)
I believe that there needs to be more info for "Conn Info" other than just what is provided.

Shalabh JainHi Jain,
Hope this will help you....

I am using
Vendor Type: DB2 Universal Database v8.1
JDBC Driver: IBM DB2 Universal Driver
It need host name, port, Database name, userid, password to be specified.
But, a connection can be established fine, if I am trying it from a simple Java program with JDBC with the exactly same parameters.
However I am able to create a new DB server connection using APP Driver
i.e.
vendor type as "DB2 Universal Database Express v8.1" and Driver as "IBM DB2 APP DRIVER". No host name or port need to be specified in this case.
But, if the database is in different machine then it will be a problem.Caused by: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused

Oracle Provider connectivity issues in 2008 server (for Standard Users)
Hi
We're using Windows 2008 R2 server and installed a VB application. The application has the capability to connect to Access, SQL Server or Oracle Datbase using OLEDB providers. When I login as "Administrator", the application connects to all three databases.
But, When I login as "Standard user" in the server and try to connect to the Oracle Database (using Oracle OLEDB provider), the application errors "Database server doesn't exist or Access denied".
We are using Oracle 10g (oraops10.dll, version 1.102.2.20) client. We have also provided the full access rights to "Authenticated Users" and "Users" account in the server and still get this error.
Any suggestions/ideas, why this error occurs?I don't think, you're correct.
As mentioned in my post, the application works fine when I logged as "Administrator". Only for the "Standard users" logins, the application doesn't work.
The Windows Server restricts the oracle database connectivity for the standard users. My questions, does oracle require "special permission" for certain folders, so the standard users can connect to the oracle database.?

Setting Heterogeneous Connectivity Environment
hai,
i am very new to " ORACLE Heterogeneous Connectivity"..
and this is my senario..i need to connect oracle with microsoft access (and update 5 more tables regulary)..
so..
what are the pre-reqsites needed for doing this connectivity...
what are the drivers/softwarz,i supposed to install to achive my goal
Datebase:11g1
OS: wisdows XP
(i posted it at .. Forum Home » Database » Heterogeneous Connectivity..but no response..so any one who knows abt this,help me..)
regards,
jp@valapad1.First make an ODBC connection, make entry in System DSN(to create a data source)
2.Make an entry in tnsnames.ora
3.Make an entry in listener.ora under SID_LIST_LISTENER
4.Make an entry in file named init<HS>.ora file located "oracle_base\oracle_home\db\hs\admin"
5.Restart the listener
e.g:
1. create a odbc system dsn named like 'sqlserver'
2. sqlserver= (DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp) (HOST=xx.xx.xx.xx) (PORT=1521))
(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME=sqlserver))
(HS = OK)
3. (SID_DESC = (SID_NAME = sqlserver) (ORACLE_HOME = oracle_base\oracle_home\db) (PROGRAM = hsodbc) )
4.Create a file named initsqlserver.ora and make the following entry:
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = sqlserver
Alternatively, you can copy the file named inithsodbc.ora and rename it to initsqlserver.ora
and edit as HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = sqlserver
5. lsnrctl reload listener_name

Query over Oracle Transparent Gateway on DB2 hangs the session
I am on Database release 10gR2 using the Oracle Transparent Gateway (v9) installed on a DB2 i*series machine.
The Oracle database is located in the same data center as the DB2 database. When I issue very simple queries such as select count(*) from t, I get a result immediately. However when I issue something like select * from t, I very rarely get any rows back (I will sometimes 39 out of 4000) and the session appears to hang. Our DB2 administrators report that everything looks ok on their end. It's like the query is executed in DB2 but the gateway has trouble replying to the Oracle DB
As a side note, the hung session prevents the database from shutting down but does not prevent the database from closing some processes while trying to shutdown (e.g. J000, MXXX, etc.). This results in an open database with missing processes (non critical).
I think this is a network/firewall issue, has anyone had any similar experiences with the gateway? How can I diagnose the problem?
I should note, other Oracle databases in different locations (and different versions) do not have a problem when running the same queries.

SamBIf I remember correctly the V9 TG4DB2/400 was not certified with Oracle database 10gR2; only 10.1. See also Metalink certify page which states:
Operating System: IBM AS/400 Version V5R1 - V5R3
Oracle Transparent Gateway for DB2/400 Version 9.2.0
Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition V10 Version 10g
Status: Desupported
Side Note: the certify version states 10g; this means 10gR1; not 10gR2.
You can crosscheck it while checking out the V10.1/2 gateway certification which explicite lists 10gR2.
So it would be interesting if any 10gR2 database can successfully query the table. -
Tables not shown in connections tree for DB2 databases
Hi!
I often use SQL Developer to connect to our DB2 databases. However, when I expand the desired schema in a DB2 database, the Tables node is empty, although it should not be. There are tables in that schema and I can select data from them, so security is not an issue:
For example:
select tabschema, tabname from syscat.tables where tabschema not like 'SYS%' order by 1,2;
returns many schema names and table names is those schemas. Let's pick one, i.e table name METER_TYPE in schema METER ( there are 4 tables in schema METER)
select count(*) from meter.meter_type
returns: 38
However, the Tables node shows no tables. Tese tables are not Aliases (DB2 slang for synonyms) or views, however, those 2 nodes are also empty when they should not be - we have schemas with aliases and views, which are also NOT shown. The Index node is populated most frequently, but not completely (there are indexes missing).
Here are my details (don't be fooled by java 1.7, the behaviour is the same with 1.6):

For some unknown and probably pointless reason, forms converts the tree query to uppercase before executing it. This can cause problems if the sql contains any hardcoded strings. In my case I was doing something like
decode(status,1,'red',2,'green')||icon_name
this resulted in REDicon when my icon was actually redicon.gif -
Heterogeneous connection between Oracle and Postgres.
Hi All,
I'm trying to make an heterogeneous connection between Oracle and Postgres since few days but i still having this error : "lost RPC connection".
First of all : I'm using Windows 7, Oracle 10g and PostgreSQL 8.4.
I have done the following operations :
1) Create a System DNS named "PG". (Test connection is OK)
2) Create the file "initPG.ora" in "$ORACLE_HOME/hs/admin" :

# needed for an ODBC Agent.
# HS init parameters
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = PG
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = ON
# Environment variables required for the non-Oracle system
#set <envvar>=<value>
3) Configure the file "listener.ora" (in "$ORACLE_HOME/NETWORK/ADMIN") :

5) Finally, i create my DB-Link and test it :
CREATE DATABASE LINK "CENTRALE_POSTGRES" CONNECT TO "user_login" IDENTIFIED BY "user_password" USING 'PG';
SELECT * FROM "dual"@CENTRALE_POSTGRES;
I got this error :
ORA-03135 : lost RPC connection.
As you can see, i have activated the trace level (HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = ON), but the directory "$ORACLE_HOME/NETWORK/trace" still empty.
Any ideas ?
Regardsthe tnsnames.ora alias PG is wrong - you need to have 2 closing brackets after the SERVICE_NAME so that HS=OK is outside of the CONNECT_DATA like:
PG =
<space>(DESCRIPTION =
<space><space>(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = tcp)(HOST = Cédric-PC)(PORT = 1521))
<space><space>(CONNECT_DATA =
<space><space><space>(SERVICE_NAME = PG))
<space><space>(HS = OK)
<space>)
Please be also aware HSODBC up to release 10.2 has been desupported since March 2008 and it was replaced by its follow up product DG4ODBC V11 -

could you pls check and let me know whether the below enteries are correct or not.
Pls share if you have step by step connectivity from DB2 to oracle using DB link.
1. I have created the Data source for DB2 - test successful
create database link OSBLDEV
connect to "db2user"
identified by "ldb2pwd"
using 'OSBLDEV';
1. I have made the following entry in E:\oracle\product\11.1.0\db_1\hs\admin\initosbldev.ora
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = OSBLDEV
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = 0
2. I have made the following entry in E:\oracle\product\11.1.0\db_1\NETWORK\ADMIN\tnsnames.ora
OSBLDEV =
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=orahost)(PORT=1521))
(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=OSBLDEV))
(HS=OK)
3. I have made the following entry in E:\oracle\product\11.1.0\db_1\NETWORK\ADMIN\listener.ora and releoaded the listner (lsnrctl reload)
LISTENER =
(ADDRESS_LIST=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=orahost)(PORT=1521))
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=ipc)(KEY=PNPKEY)))
SID_LIST_LISTENER=
(SID_LIST=
(SID_DESC = # this is the entry for HSODBC
(SID_NAME = OSBLDEV)
(ORACLE_HOME = e:\oracle\product\11.1.0\db_1)
(PROGRAM = hsodbc)
Thanks in advance.1. My listener.ora is placed at the below location:
E:\oracle\product\11.1.0\db_1\NETWORK\ADMIN
2. I have modifed the listener and removed the entry - hsodbc
3. stop and start the listener.
still can't see the service entry in listener status.
