Oracle high availability service is showing as down in em 12c

Hi,
I thought I could use some help from here before going to oracle.
Can you please share your ideas what might went wrong
EM 12c is showing oracle high availability service as down though it is up and running.
ps -ef | grep -i ohas
/oracle/asm/grid/home/bin/ohasd.bin reboot
/bin/sh /etc/init.d/init.ohasd run
crsctl check has
CRS-4638: Oracle High Availability Services is online

Hello,
We are not performing any system maintenence today so I'm not sure why you were presented with a message stating that.  Can you share you support request # (SR#) so I can look into your case and follow with you offline?
Whenever we perform maintenence where you'll be unable to use a feature of the service notification should be provided on our status page.
Thanks,

  • CRS-4639: Could not contact Oracle High Availability Services

    Hi Everyone,
I have installed 11gR2 GRID and RAC on RHEL 6.
With the installation when I ran the root.sh script I had to run the following command for the HAS to be able to start successfully:
/bin/dd if=/var/tmp/.oracle/npohasd of=/dev/null bs=1024 count=1  (According to MOS: 1069182.1)I have duplicated a database onto this environment and after a reboot of the servers the HAS does not start.
None of the logs get updated to give/show any information except 1,$GRID_HOME/log/node1/client/css.log, which gives:
    2011-02-03 13:17:41.480: [ CSSCLNT][1441978112]clssscConnect: gipc request failed with 29 (0x13)
2011-02-03 13:17:41.481: [ CSSCLNT][1441978112]clsssInitNative: connect failed, rc 29I checked and tried everything according to MOS: How to Troubleshoot Grid Infrastructure Startup Issues [ID 1050908.1], but to no avail.
    If I run the command
/bin/dd if=/var/tmp/.oracle/npohasd of=/dev/null bs=1024 count=1  (According to MOS: 1069182.1)and then manually start HAS everything starts perfect.
Is there any way to bypass this or get a permanent solution?
    Thanks in advance.

    HI!
In RHEL 6 inittab is no longer supported, it uses upstart insted.
    See more info in page:http://searchenterpriselinux.techtarget.com/tip/RHEL-6-ditches-System-V-init-for-Upstart-What-Linux-admins-need-to-know
To solve the issue do the following:
    Create the file:/etc/init/init-oracle.conf
    *#start oracle*
    start on runlevel [0123456]
    stop on runlevel [016]
    respawn
    exec /etc/init.d/init.ohasd run >/dev/null 2>&1 </dev/null
After the file is created, reboot and Oracle should start normaly

  • After start of Grid High Availability Service (HAS) can't umount filesystem

I have weird problem when I start and stop HAS. File system get's into state, where it does not umount. So filesystem where grid software is running can't be umounted on boot. 9Is there something I do wrong, or don't do right.
I have fresh install of latest 64-bit UEK2 kernel (2.6.39-400.109.1.el6uek.x86) and Oracle 11.2.0.3 Grid Infrastructure for standalone server. I Installed patch p12983005 (112036_Linux-x86-64) to get ACFS support for kernel. When I start HAS and ASM, file system does not umount anymore. Here's steps. Example is from local disk, but I have same problem with LUN from SAN. I thought it might have something to do with SAN and multipath, but SAN is not to blame cos same happens with local disk. Don't know why local disk seem be mapped by multipath in fstab.
    1. Mount fs
    [root@SERVER ~]# mount -t ext4 /dev/mapper/vg_SERVER-lv_app /u01
    2. Start HAS
    [grid@SERVER ~]$ crsctl start has
CRS-4123: Oracle High Availability Services has been started.
    3. Stop HAS
    [grid@SERVER ~]$ crsctl stop has
CRS-2791: Starting shutdown of Oracle High Availability Services-managed resources on 'SERVER'
CRS-2673: Attempting to stop 'ora.cssd' on 'SERVER'

CRS-2793: Shutdown of Oracle High Availability Services-managed resources on 'SERVER' has completed

    4. Try umount
    [root@SERVER ~]# umount /u01
    umount: /u01: device is busy.
(In some cases useful info about processes that use
the device is found by lsof(8) or fuser(1))
    [root@SERVER ~]# fuser /u01
    [root@SERVER ~]# lsof |grep /u01
Neither of fuser or lsof returns nothing.
This and the fact that ACFS cannon't be mounted on boot, get's me wondering should I use ASM and Oracle Restart at all at this point. Initial reason is that in future this is likely going to be part of RAC.

I followed the instructions and copied the edid file I obtained while monitor was connected directly to the specified directory.
    Now I get:
Jan 17 13:14:09 daniel-think kernel: platform VGA-1: Direct firmware load for edid/medion-edid.bin failed with error -2
    Jan 17 13:14:09 daniel-think kernel: [drm:edid_load] *ERROR* Requesting EDID firmware "edid/medion-edid.bin" failed (err=-2)

  • Oracle High Availability Training

I am seeking training on High-Availability Oracle solutions - Not just Parallel server, but Standby, and HA configuration in Sun Clustered environments. The training should focus on the RDBMS (8i/9i).
Any recommendations for Oracle or Third-Party training classes would be appreciated.
I understand that Oracle alone will provide high reliability but to get to .9995 reliability (not 5 9s) we'll need some sort of high-availability solution.

  • High availability for AS forms & Reports

    Hi,
i like to know the best solution for high availability of Oracle Application Server(10g) Forms & Reports Services ...as load balancing is not done for forms & reports with the oracle high availability solution( i guess i am rite).any suggestions
    thanks
    mish

Well, install Oracle AS Forms and Reports on two different nodes and configure your Forms and Reports services on both of them. Use a virtual host configuration to load balance (by hardware load balancer) to both hosts which are the resources. Use the webcache (standalone or the one that came with the install) to map the virtual host to the resources on the two hosts. Use REPORTS_SERVERMAP to map the name of the 'cluster' reports server to the local reports server, ie REPORTS_SERVERMAP=app:app1 on node 1 and REPORTS_SERVERMAP=app:app2 on node 2. Use REPORTS_SERVERMAP=app:app1;appl:appl1 to add more applications/reportservers. Set REPORTS_SERVERMAP in O_H/forms/servers/default.env and the application env files and under O_H/reports/conf/rwservlet.properties.

  • High Availabity Services & Provider Services

What are High Availability Services? What are Provider Services? Whether High Availability Servies exists in 9.3.1 version? If not why? Whether they are replaced by Provider Services?

    Hi,
    Both are same tool name-
In version 9.0.0- we called it Analytic High Availabity Services.
In version 9.3.1- we called it Analytic Service provider
And in earliar version(7.x)- we called it Essbase deployment server.
Basically Analytic Service provider is a product of Analytic services(Essbase). This tool provides the connection polling, load balancing, failover support .
it handle the mutiple request of users and provide the access of essbase database.
For more information see the dba guide of version 9.0.x and 9.3.x.

  • High availability when using Oracle Service Bus as Middleware?

    Hi there,
We are designing a new solution here which will be composed of SAP WM, Middleware and a Java application.
We have been using OSB when sending data from Java to SAP, and we can get many "channels" working. So we get higher throughput and also HA.
Now, in that new project we will need to send data from SAP to a Java application, but some people told me we can't have more than one channel when sending data from SAP to OSB. I mean, we won't be able to have High Availability unless we use SAP PI. The only option we would have is to set the gateway to broadcast the message to all available channels, which would duplicate the messages got by the Java application.
Is that true? Is there any alternative for using OSB with SAP and still get HA and High throughput (SAP -> OSB).
    What do you guys think?
    Regards

    anyone?

  • High Availability Of Service Replicated Across Domains

    Hi,
We have two Tuxedo application , one generate message and calls service of remote domain to send to another Tuxedo application(fix engine) which sends it to external world. There are two remote domains(individual means on separate nodes named SSGWBest and SSGWBoxt) which have the same service(OutFixEn) published of fix engine. We have done this for high availability scenario if one machine is not available or crashed then message can still be sent to external world.
We are using Oracle Tuxedo, Version 10.3.0.0, 64-bit, Patch Level 095 on AIX 6.1 Power 7 machine. Following is snippet of domain configuration to show how service is published in local domain. We tried to test this scenario and started calling service OutFixEn from local domain and during this run we shutdown the tuxedo application server on SSWBoxt site so that OutFixEn was not available (To create service un-availability scenario). Our understanding was that all service calls only land on SSWBest site as domain will suspends this site for service availbility but it did not happen as first few service call failed with TPETIME (my assumption was it will fail through TPENOENT)and then service landing on SSGWBoxt were routed on SSGBest site.
Based on this test scenario, i have following questions.
1/ How to achieve routing of services to available domain with minimal service failures (means my only first one or two services fail and then application adjust to route service to available domain) ?
2/ Is there any other better way to organize these services so that better load balancing and high availability can be ensured ?
    Regards,
    Ajeet Tewari

    Hi,
It is possible to configure failover and load balancing as you suggest, but that won't solve the problem described. The issue is that the local domain gateway doesn't know the availability of the services in a remote domain. It decides to advertise imported services locally only based on the connection establishment policy (ON_STARTUP or ON_DEMAND), and not the actual state of the remote service. If the connection policy is ON_DEMAND, the service is always advertised locally and when a request arrives for that service, the domain gateway will establish a connection to the remote domain if one isn't present. If the connection policy is ON_STARTUP, the domain gateway won't start advertising the imported services locally until the connection is established. However, once the connection is established, it assumes the imported service is available at the remote domain.
You have a couple of options here. One is to make sure the service is highly available on the domain, such that when a connection exists to the domain, the service will be available. The other alternative is to switch to an MP single domain configuration as the availability of a service across machines is known.

  • Topology.svc - Endpoints - Web Services High Availability

    Hi,
I was recently performing some simple DRP tests before going to production and i faced some issues i never encountered before..
    (followed
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/besidethepoint/archive/2011/02/19/how-i-learned-to-stop-worrying-and-love-the-sharepoint-topology-service.aspx for usefull commands related to enpoints)
    My farm:
    SP 2013 - CU August 2013
    2 WFE (WFE1, WFE2)
2 App (App1, App2) : Most services started on both servers (UPSS on APP1, UPS on both) - Central Admin on Both.
    SQL Cluster
    At normal state the command : (Get-SPTopologyServiceApplicationProxy).ApplicationProxies | Format-List *
    returns > ServiceEndpointUri :
    https://app1:32844/Topology/topology.svc
(if i'm not wrong, this topology.svc can run on only one server at a time)
I stopped WFE1, no pb, the NBL (appliance) is doing the job.
Then I stopped the App1 and started to have some issues. (most enpoints not balanced to app2)
I run the job "Application Addresses Refresh Job"
    Or launch PS command : Start-SPTimerJob job-spconnectedserviceapplication-addressesrefresh
    Wait 20 sec.
A few endpoints are now on APP2 (MMS, Search), it seems to work, i reached my web page.
I ask a mate to try and he got the "sorry we encountered and error..." > Can't load user profile.
I refreshed my browser and got the same error.......
ULS review, I can see that some svc request (most about user, profiledbcacheService) are still on APP1 !!
A failure was reported when trying to invoke a service application: EndpointFailure Process Name: w3wp Process ID: 6784 AppDomain Name: /LM/W3SVC/93617642/ROOT-1-130445830237578923 AppDomain ID: 2 Service Application Uri: urn:schemas-microsoft-com:sharepoint:service:e8315f8e5d7d4b1b90876e3b0043a4ae#authority=urn:uuid:164efb17f28c4d2d9702ce3e86f0c0e8&authority=https://app1:32844/Topology/topology.svc

    http://app1:32843/e8315f8e5d7d4b1b90876e3b0043a4ae/ProfileService.svc
    The command (Get-SPTopologyServiceApplicationProxy).ApplicationProxies | Format-List *
Still return me that my topology.svc is on
    https://app1:32844/Topology/topology.svc
    But App1 is down !!
If my understanding is ok: Normally, the internal round robin loadbalancer (Application Discovery and Load Balancer Service, started on all servers, not configurable) should manage this.
Application Addresses Refresh Job is running each 15 min. and refreshs available endpoints, using the topology.svc
But, the topology.svc called is always on APP1 which is down !
At this time, i haven't found why SharePoint is not detecting that APP1 is down and is not
automatically recreating a topology service on another available server.....
If you have any idea...your help is welcome :)
    Regards,
    O.P

    Hi  ,
For achieving Web Services High Availability, you need to make sure service-applications have more than one server to service them to increase back-end resiliency to a SharePoint server dropping off the network.
You can refer to the blog:

  • Oracle Linux High Availability (HA)

We would like to employ High Availability (HA) on Oracle Linux in order to provide solid service. How can we achieve this? What software do we need to install and where to start? We want HA not only for middle tier but all kind of software running on the server.

If you cannot make a decision based on technical aspects, perhaps it will help to make a decision considering other aspects:
    - what product or service are you trying to provide?
    - what is your technical background?
    - what is your budget?
    - what are you planning for the future?
I have not seen any useful general review or comparison of cluster products and there are several major players on the market. The situation is obviously complex and the right product depends on the product or service you are planning to provide. If you are ever thinking about using an Oracle database product, it would be foolish not to go for Oracle Clusterware.
I think you should also very much consider virtualization and HA. Again, if you are planning to provide Oracle services, Oracle VM Server for x86 might be your best option, which is also a free product and designed for a production environment.
In my humble opinion, Oracle products are generally complex and not necessarily the most admin or user-friendly solutions, but you will find a lot of support and as far as I'm aware, no other product will provide you a better cost of ownership than Oracle Linux and Oracle VM Server, which is zero.

  • Oracle reports 10g High Availability

Clustering is deprecated with 10g application servers and High availability is recommended by Oracle for fail over of Report services (standalone).
I would like to get any incite , oracle references as to how the recommended solution could be implemented both for cold and hot fail over of report services within the same subnet.
the architecture of our environment is that two hosts (one of them being standby) run report services using namingservice discovery mechanism and requests are manually redirected to the standby service in case one of them fails.
how could this be transformed into hot fail over ?

Read the section on High Availabilty in the Publishing Reports to the Web manual, and the section on Reports in the High Availability Guide.

  • Oracle Identity Federation - High Availability

    Hello,
We are trying to figure out the high availability options supported by the Oracle Identity Federation. While reading the documentation we find it a bit confusing. We read the OIF Administrator Guide here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10773_01/doc/oim.1014/b25355/advtopics.htm#CHDBCDFG
In Section "9.4 High Availability" it said that "Oracle Identity Federation supports the Cold Failover Cluster (CFC) or active-passive high availability configuration,". In the Application Server 10g guide also said the same and explicitly said that the active-active configuration is not supported for the OIF.
Then in Section "9.5 Setting Up a Load Balancer with Oracle Identity Federation" it explains how to set up a load balancer for the OIF. When it explains this it says that we can have several instances of OIF in different machines, configured with a load balancer. All these instances share the same transient database where the sessions are stored.
Which is the difference between this load-balancer-based configuration and an active-active high availability configuration? If one node of the load-balancer configuration goes down, the sessions administered by him are lost? That is the difference?
    Thanks!
    Leonardo

    Hi
I am not very sure about High Availability configuration but for Load balancer as mentioned in the document, You have to have both the instances sharing transient database where sessions will be stored.
If both the OIF instances are not sharing transient database and you have LB sharing load, It will not work as sessions will be store in memory. So sessions from one OIF instance will not be known and available to the other instance of OIF.
    Thanks

  • Oracle Berkeley DB Java Edition High Availability (White Paper)

    Hi all,
I've just read Oracle Berkeley DB Java Edition High Availability White Paper
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/berkeleydb/berkeleydb-je-ha-whitepaper-132079.pdf
In section "Time Consistency Policy" (Page 18) it is written:
"Setting a lag period that is too small, given the load and available hardware resources, could result in
frequent timeout exceptions and reduce a replica's availability for read operations. It could also increase
the latency associated with read requests, as the replica makes the read transaction wait so that it can
catch up in the replication stream."
Can you tell me why those read operations will not be taken by the master ?
Why will we have frequent timeout ?
Why should read transaction wait instead of being redirect to the master ?
Why should it reduce replica's availability for read operations ?
    Thanks
