ORACLE_HOME

Hello Experts,
How to set oracle_home while installing the ecc 6.0 sr2.
Thanks in advanced.
Regards
Hemant

Hello friend,
Set the ORACLE_HOME environment variable to the Oracle home directory :
To check the ORACLE_HOME environment variable, choose Start u2192 Settings u2192 Control Panel u2192 System and switch to the Advanced tab. Select Environment Variables.
Check if the ORACLE_HOME system variable is set to the Oracle home directory, which is the directory in which Oracle is installed. If it is not set, create a new variable.
The procedure to create a new variable is:
1. Choose New.
2. Set Variable Name to ORACLE_HOME.
3.  Set Variable Value to a ORACLE home directory, such as ORACLE_HOME=C:\oracle\<SID>\920 (920 or 102_64 : It depends on your Oracle release & installation)
4.  Choose OK and restart your OS.
5.  The ORACLE_HOME variable is now present in the system variables list.
thanks
ashish

  • MULTIPLE USERS 10G RAC ORACLE_HOME INSTALL WITH ASM/CRS

    Hi,
We need to install multiple 10g RAC databases on a two node Sun servers. Below is our configuration:
    1) Sun Solaris (ver 10) with Sun Cluster 3.2
    2) One ASM/CRS install (by 1 OS account)
    3) Four ORACLE_HOME 10g database install (by 4 different OS user accounts)
We would like to use one ASM instance for all four databases with appropriate privileges.
    OS User:           OS Group
    ========      =========
oraasm           dbaasm - (ASM and CRS install owner)
    ora1           dbaora1 - first db owner
    ora2           dbaora2 - second db owner
    ora3           dbaora3 - third db owner
    ora4           dbaora4 - fourth db owner
I understand that certain privileges need to be shared between ASM/CRS and DB owners. Please let me know the steps to be followed to complete this install.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
    Please read that: Documentation http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B10766_08/intro.htm
    - You can install and operate multiple Oracle homes and different versions of Oracle cluster database software on the same computer as described in the following points:
-You can install multiple Oracle Database 10g RAC homes on the same node. The multiple homes feature enables you to install one or more releases on the same machine in multiple Oracle home directories. However, each node can have only one CRS home.
-In addition, you cannot install Oracle Database 10g RAC into an existing single-instance Oracle home. If you have an Oracle home for Oracle Database 10g, then use a different Oracle home, and one that is available across the entire cluster for your new installation. Similarly, if you have an Oracle home for an earlier Oracle cluster database software release, then you must also use a different home for the new installation.
If the OUI detects an earlier version of a database, then the OUI asks you about your upgrade preferences. You have the option to upgrade one of the previous-version databases with DBUA or to create a new database using DBCA. The information collected during this dialog is passed to DBUA or DBCA after the software is installed.
    - You can use the OUI to complete some of the de-install and re-install steps for Oracle Database 10g Real Application Clusters if needed.
    Note:
Do not move Oracle binaries from one Oracle home to another because this causes dynamic link failures.
. If you are using ASM with Oracle database instances from multiple database homes on the same node, then Oracle recommends that you run the ASM instance from an Oracle home that is distinct from the database homes. In addition, the ASM home should be installed on every cluster node. This prevents the accidental removal of ASM instances that are in use by databases from other homes during the de-installation of a database's Oracle home.

  • Localconfig is not found out in the new grid Oracle_HOME

    Hi There,
Ifollowed the metalink Note ID 736121.1 to upgrad ASM for Non-RAC from 10gr2 to 11gr2. The 11gr2 Grid installation is successful, which is on a different directory from the current ASM directory. What I did for insallation is software only installation. However, when I'm doing step 4 in the Note, localconfig is not found out in the now Grid home directory(/ora/fs0000/app/grid/11.2.0/bin). even no DBUA is found out either. I'm unable to upgrade ASM for non-RAC from 10r2 to 11gr2.
With the successful installation of 11rr2 grid, the CSS is running in 11gr2, but No DBUA is found out in the new Grid Oracle_HOME directory.

Here are the steps in Note 736121.1:
    1) Install the new 11g ASM Oracle Home (on a different directory) as described in the Installation Guide associated with your specific platform :
    http://www.oracle.com/pls/db111/portal.portal_db?selected=11&frame=
    ==)> Installation Guide for <your platform/Os>
    2) Shutdown all the database instances that are using ASM as storage option.
    3) Shutdown the ASM instance.
    4) Reconfigure the CSS service:
Connect as root OS user and execute:
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/localconfig reset
Where: $ORACLE_HOME is the new 11g ASM Oracle Home
    5) Startup the ASM instance (connected as Oracle OS user) as usual (using the 10g Oracle Home).
    6) From another graphical session, set the environment variables (ORACLE_HOME, PATH, etc.) pointing to your new 11 ASM Oracle Home.
    7) Then execute the DBUA from the new ASM 11gOracle_Home/bin/dbua:
    DBUA will show 2 options:
    =)> upgrade ASM instance.
    =)> upgrade the database
    8) Select [upgrade ASM instance] option. The DBUA will upgrade your ASM instance to release 11g automatically.
    9) Finally, please startup the databases that are using ASM as storage option.
Does anyone has experience upgrading 10g ASM for Non-RAC to 11gR2?
    Thanks in advance.

I have a new problem in my production server. When i planned to start the service of OEM(oracledbconsoleprod) in WINDOWS SERVER 2003 i got an error like " Error997.overlapped I/O opeartion is in progress" .
Then i planned to start through cmd . It showing that 'emctl ' is a unrecognized command .
Then i checked in "c:\oracle\product\10.2\db_1\bin" i can't find any binary files like 'emca, emctl ' etc.
My database version is 10.2.0.4.0 .
My doubt is -- > if i copy the binary files like 'emca, emctl ' etc from standby server(10.2.0.4.0) to production server(10.2.0.4.0) will it work?
will i get the same configuration again or i need to create the OEM again?

    Hi,
    1. Do you backup of ORACLE_HOME available..
    2. Only copying emctl/emca binariews might not help you because you are not aware about other files.. Some other files/binaries may also be missing
I would suggest you restore it from backup..
    >
My doubt is -- > if i copy the binary files like 'emca, emctl ' etc from standby server(10.2.0.4.0) to production server(10.2.0.4.0) will it work?
will i get the same configuration again or i need to create the OEM again? It may or may not work.. You can give it a try.. If it doesn't work either go for restoring from backup or fresh installation..
Also only binaries are missing .. it doesn't have do anything with OEM configuration.. It should work fine once you have all binaries in place.
    Kind Regards

At this point how do I create another database named orc2 on the same machine?
    Thanks in advance.
    winnie philip.

    Hi,
    Set the oracle_sid=db1
Now rename your init.ora to init<oracle_sid>.ora in $oracle_home/dbs directory.
Change the db_name parameter to appropriate name in the init<oracle_sid>.ora file.
    Now create the database.
In the same fashion create another database with the new database name and different oracle_sid
Now in order to switch between the databases.
Change the env variable Oracle_Sid to the value of the database which you wanted to start.
    Regards
    Anand

  • CRS HOME & 9iR2 RAC ORACLE_HOME Different Owners

    Facts:
    2 Node Cluster, Sun T2000
    O/S: Sun Sparc Solaris 64 bit 5.10
3rd Party Clusterware - Veritas Storage Foundation for RAC (SFRAC) 5.0 MP3
    CRS: 10.2.0.4
CRS is owned by oracle:dba (with the exception of anything owned by root)
    9iR2 (9.2.0.8) RAC RDBMS ORACLE_HOME is owned by oraofsg:dba
9iR2 (9.2.0.8) RAC Database Name: ofsg
    10gR2 (10.2.0.4) RAC RDBMS ORACLE_HOME is owned by oracle:dba
    Metalink note 220970.1
    Misc. Info:
Action: /var/opt/oracle/srvConfig.loc was renamed after 9i database and GSD stopped prior to installing CRS.
Why?: 10g CRS chose to use 9i's srvm.dbf rather than the file system I had created for the 10g CRS cluster registry.
    Task at Hand:
Need to register 9.2.0.8 RAC database ofsg under 10gR2 CRS.
    Issue:
As 9i RAC database owner oraofsg with the 9i RAC environment set, and 9i GSD down:
    srvctl add database -d oraofsg -o /sv01/sw/oraofsg/ofsgdb/9.2.0
PRKR-1005 : adding of cluster database ofsg configuration failed, PROC-5: User does not have permission to perform a cluster registry operation on this key. Authentication error [User [oraofsg] does not match with initialized user] [0]
Question: Has anyone successfully registered a 9i RAC database under 10g CRS?
    Thanks for your consideration.
    Regards,
    Jerry

    Hi
CRS_HOME must be owned by a different user:group (preferably root) than $ORACLE_HOME (owned by oracle), for several reasons like patching.
Please note also that you will need an ASM dedicated home and also a AGENT_HOME that can be owned by oracle.
    Hope this helps.

  • Problem with $ORACLE_HOME 10g RAC

Hi, I have a doubt that I want to post here.
The SAP-ORACLE Installation guide specifies that the path to ORACLE_HOME for a oracle 10.2g intallation should be "/oracle/<SAPSID>/102_64", but we got
    "/oracle/<SAPSID>/1020_64"
I'm asking: Is any problem (or possible issue) with that for any component of mySAP ERP 2005 or  Netweaver2004s SR1
We are new at this, and we never thought that THAT could be any problem..but we've been adviced by sap consultors that it could be.
Please I'm asking if someone with a GOOD knowledge if SAP-ORACLE installations could say what's exactly the problem with that , if there's any.
Also, if there's someone who knows some procedure (or where to find some guidelines) to install SAP on a 2machine RAC with a oracle 10.2g installation (just the software, with any database yet) would be appreciated.
Thank you very much in advance.

    Hi Mauri,
    if you go to http://www.oracle.com/newsletters/sap/products/rac/rac4sap_howto.html
you'll find white papers to implement RAC on either UNIX/Linux or Windows
The main page is www.oracle.com/sap and on the left you see Real Application Clusters

  • Multiple Oracle_home (best way to upgrade) ??

    hello all,
I was going thru the below link and found this very cool trick that i didnt know.
    http://searchoracle.techtarget.com/tip/0,289483,sid41_gci1252556,00.html?track=NL-93&ad=587723&asrc=EM_NLT_1354356
    it goes something like this
*My favorite best practice is the one about multiple Oracle Homes. Here it how it goes. When applying a patch or a patchset, I recommend against applying to the existing Oracle Home. Instead, I suggest creating a new Oracle Home, and apply the patches there.
I create the first Oracle Home at /app/oracle/db_1, for instance. When a patch comes out, I install the whole Oracle software in a different home -- /app/oracle/db_2 -- and then apply the patch there. During the process of installation and patch application, the database is up and running, as it runs off the home /db_1. When the outage window comes, all I have to do is to shut down Oracle; change Oracle Home to db_2 and bring the database up. If there is a problem, I can reset the Oracle Home back to the old one.
So, here is the conventional approach:
    1. Shut down the database
    2. Apply patch to the Oracle Home
    3. Start the database
    4. In case of problems:
    5. Shut down the database
    6. Roll back the patch
    7. Start the database
Steps 2 and 6 could take as much as three hours depending on the amount of patching. The database is down during these times.
    In the new approach:
    1. Install new Oracle Home
    2. Apply the patch to the new Home
    3. Shut down the database
    4. Change Oracle Home to the new location
    5. Start the database
    6. In case of problems:
    7. Shut down the database
    8. Change Oracle Home to the old one
    9. Start the database
The database is down only during steps 4 and 8, which takes a couple of minutes at the most, not hours.*
But my question comes here...first of all is it possible ?? i am sure it is becoz Arup Nanda one of the know oracle guys wrote this article. so here are my Q?
1- So if i get this right...if i want to upgrade to 11g...and my database is on 10g...all i need to do this create a new 11g home...shutdown my 10g database...set my oracle_home to 11g and start my database up...and its all upgraded ????
2- Another thing that worries me is how this might behave in RAC environment. Any idea
on that? i know RAC provides the rollover upgrade so we might
not need this. but would be cool to know how it behaves...ANY IDEAS ?
3- Also, I wonder how CRS and ASM home like this idea ??

Basically when you switch from the old home to the new Oracle home you are following manual database upgrade procedures so you would need to run whatever scripts are contained in the instructions. Normally for an upgrade that is catalog and catproc and you would run these immediately after bringing the database up on the new home. For a patch there might be an upgrade script or no database level scripts may be necessary. That is the patch may effect only the binary.
What we actually do is in test install new copy of existing Oracle then patch/upgrade to current level. Next build an empty database and populate it. Next test. When OK shut it down and apply patch. Startup and follow Readme or Upgrade manual procedures. If test works fine and the upgrades tests OK then we remove the new test db, switch the actual in-use test databases over to the new patched home, run upgrade scripts as necessary, and continue.
After a few weeks we start getting maintenance windows to do production. Since we have multiple databases we usually do not do all of them at once.

  • One inventory for multiple ORACLE_HOMEs ?

    RDBMS version:11.2, 10.2
    Platform : AIX
In one server , we are going to install multiple ORACLE_HOMEs (both 10.2 and 11.2). I have been asked to configure separate inventory for each ORACLE_HOME (each inventory within its own ORACLE_HOME). But i came across OTN posts which advices one inventory for all ORACLE_HOMEs .
    1. How can i create 1 inventory for all ORACLE_HOMEs . Is it by specifying an inventory directory outside all ORACLE_HOMEs in OUI when you do the very first installation ?
    2. Which one is more professional : one inventory for each ORACLE_HOME or one inventory for all ORACLE_HOMEs ?

When installing Oracle software for the first time, the OUI will create a "global" inventory under $ORACLE_BASE.
Depending on you OS, to locate this inventory look at "/etc/oraInst.loc" (AIX+Others) or "/var/opt/oracle/oraInst.loc" (Linux+others).
You can add/remove Oracle homes from this inventory by using OUI or command line ./runInstaller.
Each Oracle home may also contain an "$ORACLE_HOME/oraInst.loc" file.
    HTH
PS: +"One inventory for multiple ORACLE_HOME is a bad practice"+ -- Untrue. Perhaps only for those that don't know how to use it.

  • Error in writing to file '$ORACLE_HOME/jdk/jre/bin/java'

    Hi,
I have installed Forms & Reports Services Standalone (10.1.2.0.2) on RHEL 5 and now I am applying the Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2, Patch Set 3 (10.1.2.3), but OUI gives the following error:
Error in writing to file '$ORACLE_HOME/jdk/jre/bin/java'.
    [$ORACLE_HOME/jdk/jre/bin/java
    (Text file busy)]
I can't seem to find anything about this error on metalink or via google. Can anyone help me solve this? Thanks.

Ok, this time I stopped all processes first with opmnctl stopall and emctl stop iasconsole. I then started OUI again to install the patch. It seemed to go fine - i didnt get that java error this time, but another error almost at the end of the installation:
    Error in invoking target 'proxy_install runm_install server_install cgi_install
    cli_install conv_install qv_install' of makefile
    '/opt/oracle/Forms10gR2/reports/lib/ins_reports.mk'
According to Metalink ID 564174.1 - "Any installation of Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.0.2) on OEL 5.x or RHEL 5.x in which Reports is getting installed will fail with reports relinking errors" and the solution is as follows:
    # rpm -i xorg-x11-libs-compat-6.8.2-1.EL.33.0.1.i386.rpm
    # mv /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6 /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6.ORG
    # ln -s /usr/X11R6/lib/libXtst.so.6 /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6
I have already done these 3 steps before the base installation (just to avoid this error), yet I am getting this error even when the symbolic link already exists. Do you think I can just ignore this error and continue with the installation, or is there something else I need to check first?

hey, i found something about gcc and that you have to link two files yourself, everything has gone well up until i tried to link the second file and got the error:
    /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lxml10-lunls10
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
The command i was trying to run was this:
    linuxbox:/home/oracle# gcc -o /home/oracle/OraHome_1/rdbms/lib/extproc -L/home/oracle/OraHome_1/rdbms/lib/ -L/home/oracle/OraHome_1/lib/ -L/home/oracle/OraHome_1/lib/stubs/ /home/oracle/OraHome_1/rdbms/lib/hormc.o /home/oracle/OraHome_1/rdbms/lib/defopt.o /home/oracle/OraHome_1/rdbms/lib/homts.o -lagtsh -lpls10 -lplp10 -lclntsh -lcore10 -lxml10-lunls10 -lsnls10 -lnls10 -lcore10 -lnls10 /home/oracle/OraHome_1/lib/libgeneric10.a `cat /home/oracle/OraHome_1/lib/sysliblist` -Wl,-rpath,/home/oracle/OraHome_1/lib -lm `cat /home/oracle/OraHome_1/lib/sysliblist` -ldl -lm -L/home/oracle/OraHome_1/lib -lvsn10 -lnro10
I'm not sure where the missing file is supposed to be, what it does or how to fix it. I'm just stuck now.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Experts,
I have a Oracle_Home copied from a different server and using which , we have created a DB and it is being used for Agile applications.
But , initially , after the DB creation , we have not configure the inventory for the Oracle_Home.
And today , when we recreated the inventory, It completed successfully. And below is the output of it.
But , we are just confused why the interim patch/PSU details are not displayed.
-> Is that because , there are no interim patches/PSU installed in the Source Oracle_HOme ??
-> Or , is that when oracle_Home clone is done , it doesn't display those details ??
Note : The source environment from where we copied the oracle_Home is copied is not existing now. So, we don't have a chance to compare.

There are no Interim patches installed in this Oracle Home.
    OPatch succeeded.

The opatch just shows what you installed on top of the originally installed software.
In your case, it looks like you installed 11.2.0.2 but no patches on top of it. That's it.

I do not understand what it means.
