Oracle iDS / FORM 6i on IBM AIX
Can 9i iDS be run on IBM AIX / RS/6000 series machines? Please advise.
Why 32K blocks? There is substantial reason to not use them. Few reasons to use them. You will find excellent information on this topic posted here in these forums by Jonathan Lewis, Richard Foote, Greg Rahn, and many others.
But to your issue ... what is your interconnect solution? What is your storage solution? Describe in detail.
What have you done to track down the issue? What traces? What metrics?
If things are fast when you are on the server, but slow from a remote connection, that is an important data point. Is that what you intended to convey? I can't see how tablespace creation time could be related so please provide substantial detail.

SQLException : Exception d'E/S : the network adapter could not
establish the connection
Donc de quoi ais-je besoin entre ma station NT et le serveur Unix
pour me connecter ???
Sinon j'ai entri ca comme parametre de connection :
JDBC Driver : oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
Donc avez une astuce ?Hi, yes we should go straight to lynching the driver.
;)No we shouldn't. We should lynch Edward King.
No matter what Java is tried, even homicidal Java
code can't cause native segfaults that kill the JVM.Well you see....
The only cause of this is broken native code.Technically correct and I agree but (and you knew this was coming)....
First of all http://java.sun.com/products/jdbc/faq.html#14 This may or may not be part of the problem here. I can't say for sure. But the bridge driver is not multi-threaded. Sun is pretty straightforward in saying so. Since it is (contains) native code if you treat it otherwise you need to expect bad things to happen.
More importantly though...
EdwardKing is using MS Access. Access is a single user desktop database product not a database service (let alone an enterprise database service).
So multiple connections hitting a Access database may well cause unpleasant things. One can blame the driver yes and ultimatley the source point for the actual error is there I agree but EdwardKing is in reality to blame for trying to use a product (Access) for which it was not intended.
And this leads me back to my original point which is that even IF another driver supports connection pooling to Access in reality it isn't much of a connection pool at all. Because (a) there is no actual network connection and (b) all the queries will be lining up one at a time to lock the underlying file to do things anyway.
JoeMax
PS Another Joe will be along later to possibly comment on the suitablity of the use of the JDBC-ODBC bridge driver. However once again I would just like to point out that my underlying concern is that Edward King is trying to use Access as if it were SQL-Server or the like and it is no such thing. -
While creating RAC database on IBM AIX 5.3 following errors occur.
Hi,
I am creating a Oracle database on following configuration IBM AIX 5.3 box:
OS: IBM AIX 5.3
DB: Fresh installed Oracle 9.2.0.1 upgraded to Oracle 9.2.0.7 (Patch)
While creating a RAC database on the above server i got following errors:
ORA:00603 : ORACLE SERVER SESSION TERMINATED BY FATAL ERROR
ORA-27504 : IPC error 380 OSD context
ORA-27300 : OS system dependent operation : if_not_found failed with status:0
ORA-27301 : OS failure mesage: error 0
ORA-27302 : failure occured at:skgxpbaddr9
Licence high water mark = 0
Can any 1 help me out.Are the above error related to OS or something is wrong with the OS cluster / RAC. I tried creating single instance database on either of the server which are in cluster, no success.
Also 1 more thing i would like to add is that iam able to create single instance database on server which are not in cluster.
Any help regarding the above error is appreciated. This is a bug (for patchsets 9.2.0.6 and higher), see metalink:

KiranIs there any additional steps required after migrating Oracle Apps 11i(11.5.10.2) from IBM AIX 5.3 to 6.1? Are you cloning or upgrading the OS?
If you want to upgrade the OS, then you need to make sure you install all OS pre-req software and packages aftet the upgrade and relink executable files.

Oracle 11g on IBM-AIX 5.3 LPAR with VIO-server
Hi
We are researching the implementation of Oracle RAC 11g on an IBM LPAR solution running IBM AIX 5.3 TL06
These LPAR's use a VIO-server for I/O access.
Now the one document says VIO isn't supported for Oracle RAC, the other document says it is, and jet another states it is only supported for use with ASM
Can someone point me to a site with actual support information and/or can anyone tell me if RAC actually works on a LPAR with a VIO-server
Thanks in AdvanceIBM AIX 5.3 VIO is currently supported for all Oracle products, database and/or ERP including certain RAC Configurations as documented in Metalink certify.
Check metalink note 282036.1
If You want to use RAC, then 10.2.0.3 RAC or higher must be used and only the Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM) feature is approved for Oracle RAC and VIOS configurations.
No other restrictions.
In Your case You can use 11g RAC with VIO, but don't forget that ASM should be used as well. -
Returning 250 rows with 1000 Values in "IN" Clause Oracle 10g On IBM AIX !!
Hi,
Recently we have done the OS migration of Oracle 10g Server from Windows Server to IBM AIX. Everything is fine, But today we came across one crucial bug in the code, i.e In the Select Query, though we're expecting 1000 rows with 1000 values in "IN" Clause , It's returning Only 250 rows. Where as it's returning 1000 rows in Windows Environment with 1000 values in "IN" Clause. I have browsed throgh Google for the resolution but failed to get that.
This is something like,
In Oracle 10g On windows :-
select * from emp

Assuming there are the dept_id values in Emp table from 1 ... 1000, It's returning 250 rows. Pls help me, what could be the reason for this. and what needs to be checked to fix this.
Pls suggest !!!
Rajammmh. Did you compared the select count(*) from your_table; in the two cases.
If the result is not good and nobody has deleted rows between migration and your test, you migration need to be replayed.
Which migration did you select, Transportable database or exp/imp...?

Dear All,
In order to migrate one database from server (OS: IBM AIX 5.1 Oracle: 9.2.0.4) to another server (OS: IBM AIX 5.3 Oracle: 9.2.0.6)
I am performing the cold backup and taking the below files backup.
Datafiles
Redologfiles
Archive log file
Backup of control file from trace
I just wanted to know
a) Is there any other files do I need to take backup which may be required to bring the database up on another server?
b) Upper version of OS and oracle can create any issue or do I need to perform any extra activities?
I know after restoration the above files to the destination server, what procedure I would require to follow.
I have doubt with version of OS and oracle.
Request your advice on this.
Regards,I dont think higher version especially 5.1-5.3 will make any difference but oracle 9.2.0.4 will definitely will have an issue. If i am not wrong you need to startup the database with startup MIGRATE option after moving all the files to the new server
May be password file (missed out, but you can always create one)
Init.ora file

Experience using Oracle Forms 10g w IBM Rational Clear Case & Build Forge
Does anyone have experience using Oracle Forms 10g w IBM Rational Clear Case & Build Forge for configuration mgmt?
JaniceHi,
We had also different Installation (Win2k3 R2 32Bit and 64Bit.).
1.) For me personally I didn't recognize benefits with 64 bit
2.) when using Itanium you defenitely have to recompile. We had one Itanium at one of our customers; As Itanium is not x86 compatible you need to recompile on Itanium. it got kicked out and used for another purpose in cause of this and as mentioned the performance weren't so much higher (or in other words not noticeable). Another reason for getting rid of the damn Itanium was that Forms/Reports on Itanium Platform had some annoying bugs; but this was 10.1.2.0.2 maybe in 10.1.2.3 they're fixed.
3.) If you want to use Itanium you simply have to transfer your fmb/mmb/pll to your Itanium IAS, and use forms and reports compiler which comes with it to recompile them.
Generally at the moment we suggest our customers to use 32bit.
just my 10 cents ;)
regards
