You can vote on the request for it on the SQL Developer Exchange, but don't get your hopes up. I suggest you stick with an older release...
Have fun,

  • Oracle iLearning 5.0 on Windows and email notifications issue

    Hi!
    We are upgrading from iLearning 4.3 to iLearning 5.0 on Windows 2000 server and I have a question related to that.
    iLearning 5.0 is certified for Windows.
    The accompanying release.txt states that:
    --'Email', 'Email and Web' notifications options for Learner Rating and Authorized Enrollment/Unenrollment are not available on Windows platforms. Only web-based notifications should be used.
    Through a Technical Assistance request (TAR Number 4439000.992 ) I've found that this problem is due to the use of Workflow 2.6.2 stand-alone which requires sendmail, which is not available on Windows.
    This worries me because I want the system to be able to:
    * notify admin when authorization is needed for enrollment
    * notify course participants about changes or a cancelled course.
    * Certification reminder and expiration
    * Assessment submission
    * Notification to all learners currently enrolled in an offering
    The suggested workaround from Metalink is to use a Unix/linux server.
    Metalink suggestion:
    "you can set up a notification mailer on UNIX to work with stand-alone Workflow
    hosted on Windows. The following MetaLink article is a step-by-step guide on how
    to do this: Note:254973.1 How To Configure UNIX Sendmail To Work With Oracle Workflow Running On Windows
    This would be useful if UNIX was an option for me. It is not.
    I have some questions:
    1)Can I use WorkFlow 2.6.3.5 on windows with iLearning 5.0?
    I know Workflow 2.6.3.5 is working with MS Exchange.
    2)Can I use sendmail in some form or shape?
    IIS 5.0 (or 4.0) has a mail gateway that can be utilized by a sendmail program.
    Sendmail software for windows:
    http://www.glob.com.au/sendmail/
    http://www.indigostar.com/sendmail.htm
    http://www.ntsendmail.com/
    http://www.windowsitpro.com/Windows/Article/ArticleID/5289/5289.html
    Has anyone tried any of theese?
    I'd like to make a suggestion to my IT department on how to solve this issue.
    Thanx for any help in advance :-)
    Kristian Amlie, Bergen Norway

    There are a couple of patches available that allow a customer to upgrade their Oracle iLearning database to 10g and with that, upgrade Oracle Workflow to version 2.6.3 which supports email notifications through workflow on windows.
    Patch #s are 4321769 and 4485520
    Thanks!

  • Oracle iLearning 6.0 Installation

    Hi,
    Am going to install oracle iLearning 6.0 on Redhat 5U8.
    For this certification matrix i need oracle application server 10.1.3.1.0 software, while i am searching, oracle soa suite, only available in this version(10.1.3.1.0).
    oracle application server and oracle soa suite both are same?
    Please suggest me, which software i need to install iAS or soa suite for this iLearning installation.
    Any step by step oracle iLearning 6.0 installtion document available?
    Thanks.

    If you to to edelivery and choose iLearning Applications for Linux x86, the pack includes iLearning 6.0 and related DB and Apps Server software in the pack (albeit slightly older versions of DB and Apps server). Looks like you can then download patchsets for DB and Apps Server from MyOracle Support to upgrade these.
    Steps from there
    Install and patch Oracle Database 11gR2 (11.2.0.2+)
    Database Created
    Install and patch Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.5
    Install iLearning 6.0

  • Oracle iLearning - customization (localization, design)

    Hello,
    We started translating and customizing Oracle iLearning in Lithuanian language through the Admin part Configurable Product Text menu item. We also applied our custom design through the Configurable Themes menu item. But the localized login page is showed only when the session ends. When the user presses log out he is redirected to the English login page version (though in both situations the design of the page is the one that we applied). We have also applied the 8219125 patch but it didn’t help. How to achieve that the localized login page would be showed in both situations? Is it the only way to create the login page? Is there a detailed description how to do that? How to deal with remember password page?
    What is more, how to translate the months and weeks in the Calendar? Are those terms placed somewhere in database? Could You point out the exact location?
    And we are not able to adjust the custom design to the Admin part of the site through the Configurable Themes menu item. How to achieve that?
    Thank You,
    Vaida

    Vaida,
    Be aware that iLearning is (not yet) certified for IE8, this could be the reason why you see the original login page when you log out of iLearning. If this is not the case, you can contact Oracle Support. They will be able to help you.
    The configurable theme (except the logo) only applies to the learner interface, not to the admin interface.
    Regards
    Anders

  • XML Parsing in Java Stored Proc--Oracle XML Support Installation?

    I am working with a third party product that is having difficulty running a java stored proc that is parsing a supplied XML file. The proc basically looks like:
    import java.io.IOException;
    import javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilder;
    import javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory;
    import javax.xml.parsers.FactoryConfigurationError;
    import javax.xml.parsers.ParserConfigurationException;
    import org.w3c.dom.Document;
    import org.xml.sax.SAXException;
    InputStream is = getXMLAsInputStream(xml);
    try {
    DocumentBuilderFactory factory =
    DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    DocumentBuilder builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
    Document document = builder.parse( is );
    ... parse the document ....
    catch (FactoryConfigurationError e) {
    // unable to get a document builder factory
    We are running on 9.2.0.6, HP-UX 64-bit. At first, when we would attempt to run the proc, a database hang would occur; now after attempting to install using loadjava jars for xerces2.6: ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception:
    javax.xml.parsers.FactoryConfigurationError: Provider
    org.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl not found)
    The vendor says that the errors we are getting when running are not due to any dependency on xerces or jre1.4, and that we need to "install Oracle XML support", but I'm not certain what this means (I cannot find any documentation on what to install). I believe that there are jars that need to be loaded into the database to support the XML parsing, as jre1.3 does not include built-in XML support, and Oracle 9.2.0.6 uses jre1.3.
    So...does anyone have any thoughts as to how to resolve the missing references? Is there a way to "install Oracle XML support", or is it to install the necessary jars?
    Thanks,
    Candi

    Candi,
    The following resources should be of help:

    Java Stored Procedures Developer's Guide
    XML API Reference - XDK and Oracle XML DB

  • Oracle's support in Django

    I'm trying to decide which application server/framework I can use for python development and for that, in my case, oracle's support is a must.
    While analyzing I found out Django is trying to add Oracle as an option right now, using, of course the cx_Oracle module: http://code.djangoproject.com/wiki/OracleBranch.
    That's good news. If anyone can comment their experience with Zope, Django, etc I'll appreciate it.
    TIA

    Well, Django itself is great for development of `standard` applications. You create a model, enter 3 commands and then you have a working application with admin interface. Cool, but in my personal experience I've been hitting the wall pretty fast and the amount of time spent on decrypting automagical functionality of a framework is in direct proportion to time spent designing and implementing it ourselves. Problems like schema evolution still need to be resolved by hand.
    My limited experience with Zope comes down to the fact that it is a bit like JBoss but focused more on the content management and portal solutions. Plone is a very interesting example of a widely used CMS running on top of Zope (plone.org and plone.net).
    Some companies are using Java application servers together with Jython servlets. You can also now run ASP.NET written in IronPython (www.asp.net/ironpython). These two because out of all Web stacks these are the most mature and as we know Oracle's support of .NET and Java is outstanding.
    If you are more into PHP or Perl, Python Server Pages from mod_python gives you capabilities similar to those offered by mod_php or mod_perl - but within Python.

  • Oracle iLearning - playing content is very slow

    Hello,
    We have problem with iLearning speed. When the content is played in the application server, it shows the content really quickly, but when it is played on the local PC, the speed decreases dramatically. We have checked the servers, the network, everything is fine. What we found, that the speed of viewing learning content on local PC is fast (same as it viewed on server) when no Java is installed (of course in this case we always get errors, and it is impossible to view tests). It looks like, problem can be with Java. Maybe it can be Java configuration problem on server side?
    Thank you.
    Vaida

    Hello Scott,
    "When the content is played in the application server, it shows the content really quickly" - yes, I mean when the learner enters the Oracle iLearning site in the application server (locally where the application server is installed) and launches the course (it is played in the Oracle iLearning course player).
    "but when it is played on the local PC, the speed decreases dramatically" - I mean that the learner enters the Oracle iLearning site outside the application server (on his own computer) and launches the same course with Oracle iLearning player.

    Vaida

  • Using Captivate quizzes in oracle ilearning 5.0

    Hi,
    I guess this question goes out to anyone familiar with BOTH oracle iLearning AND Adobe Captivate..
    We are using Captivate 2 to develop e-learning content, often including quizzes / tests.
    Our current LMS is Oracle iLearning 5.0, and we are experiencing some troubles trying to apply the in-built Captivate quiz for one of our courses.
    1. I have created a simple test of 7 questions in Captivate, all weighing 1 point. You need at least 6/7 points to pass the test.
    2. In total we plan to give the user 3 shots at passing the test. No clues as to whether (s)he submits the correct answer is therefore given during the test.
    So far so good, this works well within iLearning (after having tried 3 times, you're not able to access the questions any longer), but here's the catch:
    * If the user gets eg. 4/7 on the first effort, he or she obviously fails (this works), and the RCO is marked as incomplete, the user still has these 4 points the next time he or she takes the test, so if the next result is 3/7 th user gets a total of 7/7 thus passing the test.
    Does anyone have a clue of what's causing this error? How do we reset the score for each time? Is there anything special I need to configure on the publish settings / quiz settings in Captivate that I might have forgottten / not know of? I am not very familiar with SCORM, so perhaps there is sth I need to define in the mastery score of the SCORM manifest?
    Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thx in advance

    This is definitely something on the Captivate side, and it's possible that it is related to not having a mastery score for the learning onject (which you can set manually in ilearning if need be on the learning object properties screen.)
    Do you have debugging enabled for the ilearning cmi adapter ( "?lms_debug=on" added to the end of the cmi adapter url)? If so, run the quiz a couple times like you describe and view the java console output. That might give us a clue as to what the content is doing.
    Also, try it with a mastery score and see if the behavior is different.
    I will also check with my contact at Adobe...

  • Oracle Production Support Roles and Responsibilities

    Hi,

    In addition to Joe's questions regarding if you don't know the answer, then how do you know you want the job .......
    Regarding job titles:
    "When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean -- neither more nor less."
    (Lewis Carroll - Through the Looking Glass)
    And so it is with job titles.  Any given job title means only and exactly what the organization chooses it to mean -- "neither more nor less".
    Even though we work in a technical industry, not every term you see has a universal, fixed, immutable, technical meaning. Not even close.
    My first two jobs in IT were in shops that had exactly the same set of job titles for Programmers --
    - Programmer/Analyst I
    - Programmer/Analyst II
    - Programmer/Analyst III
    In one shop,  the Programmer/Analyst III was the most junior of the three.
    In the other, the Programmer/Analyst III was the most senior of the three.
    So, you tell me, what is a "Programmer/Analyst III"?  What is a "development DBA"?  What is a "production support DBA"?

  • Oracle-Multilingual Support

    Hi ,
    I was wondering if it is possible to have a oracle database that stores data in different languages.
    I have gone through few blogs which says Oracle supports Unicode characters & UTF8 supports all languages including multi-byte.
    I would like to know what are the languages supported by oracle 10G.
    Thanks in advance!
    Para

    Please, review this guide: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10729/toc.htm
    It is the 11.2 version of the manual but the manual gets improved from release to release so it is better to read this version. Refer to the 10.2 version of the manual to verify the languages and territories that are supported in 10.2: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14225/toc.htm
    Note, Oracle has multiple levels of language support. The levels are, in increasing number of languages supported at this level:
    1. Oracle Text supports advanced linguistic operations for the given language.
    2. Error messages and user interface of many tools, including administrative tools, are translated to the given language.
    3. Error messages and user interface of many end-user tools, but not administrative tools, are translated to the given language.
    4. Oracle Text supports basic linguistic operations (e.g. stemming) for the given language.
    5. Sorting according to conventions of the given language is supported.
    6. Date, number and currency formatting according to conventions of the given language/territory is supported.
    7. Text in the given language can be stored.
    I am not quite sure about the order of levels 3-5, that is, which one contains more languages.
    Date, number and currency formatting depends mainly on territories (countries), not languages.
    Level 7, which is the ability of the database to store text in a given language and do some basic text processing on it, like SUBSTR, INSTR or LIKE, practically contains all languages of the world. The prerequisite is that the database character set is AL32UTF8.
