Oracle installation with 2 instance

Hi,
We had one instance installed on the system. We are now installing the new instance for CE 71 on hp with oracle.
The database installation is conplete, and SAP installation is still in progress.
While running the OUA, the runInstaller gave me
1) issues with the permission mode of /oracle/oraInventory (orainst.loc, oraInstroot.sh and locks directory). I did change the permissions and continued with the DB installation.
2) When runInstaller asked me to run root.sh, it asked for the local path of the bin directory (usr/local/bin, which had files for oraenv, dbhome and coraenv for new user ora<OLDSID>).
I specified it as a new folder /usr/local/newbin (where it created the files for oraenv, dbhome and coraenv for new user ora<NEWSID>)
Could you please create let me know whether I followed a wrong step? Also, is there a need to add the new directory to /usr/local/newbin to path?
please advise.
Thanks,
Antarpreet

Did you read the installation guide? Usually your start with sapinst and start the installation. SApinst stops and request you to install the database using the script RUNINSTALLER (you don't use runInstaller or DBCA or other Oracle tools) and then you move on with the installation.
If you follow all those steps it's not necessary to adapt any environments or to change settings.
This is thoroughly described in the installation guide.

I believe you are going to require an X Windows session regardless if you are trying to install 9i. My recollection is that a silent install of Oracle 10g may not require an X Windows session, though I haven't tried that personally.

  • Y2K bug in Oracle installer = v3.3.1.1.???

    In newsgroup comp.databases.oracle.misc
    I've read the following messages:
I've heard about a Y2K-Bug in the common Oracle-Installer for
NT. It was said, that installing any Oracle-product after the 1/1/2000
will cause system-errors and you will need to reinstall the operating
system. Is this true or is it nonsens? Does anybody know something
    about it?
Yes, there is a Y2K-Bug in the Oracle Installer (v3.3.1.1.0 und
niedriger) You can download a Y2K-compliant Version
    from http://metalink.oracle.com
    Questions:
Does this bug really exists ?
Does it affects only NT or Windows95/98 as well ?
The Developer 6 Server, which you can download to date from Technet, contains an Oracle Installer with version >3.3.1.1 ??
How to handle the Y2K compliant version ?? (e.g: overwrite the existing version)
What is the size (in MB) of this Y2K compliant version ?
    Any comments will be appreciated.

  • Oracle 10g R2 installation with ASM+RAC

    Gurus,
Need some suggestuon on Oracle 10g R2 installation with ASM and RAC option.
We have found many documents on the Oracle, HP, HP-Oracle CTC and third party web sites, but nothing that is specific to this particular combination of separate
ORACLE_HOMEs, ASM and 10g RAC CRS. It is unclear for me from the documentation how this combination of ASM and 10.2g RAC may best be installed.
The high level steps i got after reading lot of docs as follows - but i am not sure whether these are correct or not. if they are correct, can any one share their experience/notes please?
    1) Install CRS
    2) Install RDBMS for ASM HOME - create separater oracle home for ASM instance using OUI
    3) Install RDBMS for RAC Database Home - create separater oracle home for RAC database using OUI
    4) Create ASM database using DBCA -
    5) Use dbca to create database.

Oracle provides 'paint by numbers' tutorials called 'Oracle By Example'. (Go to OTN, check under the Training tab)
They have one for a Windows based ASM/RAC that you might want to review. Not your specific environment, but the steps will be dag-nabbed close.
    I recommend walking the path (http://otn.oracle.com >> training:OBE >> Database 10g Release 1:VMWare:Installation
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe10gdb_vmware/install/racinstallwin2k/racinstallwin2k.htm

    Gayathri.K

    Hello Gayathri
The import_monitor.java.log says the JRE used is 1.6 - java version "1.6.0_45"
There must be multiple JRE's installed on the system.
Run the below command and check the output
    ls -lad /usr/java*
    Few things I would try.
Is the '/cddumps/Solman_Export_Cds/51042607_1/DATA_UNITS/EXP1' an NFS mount ? If yes use a local file system.
Create a directory called /SMINSTALL and move all from /cddumps/Solman_Export_Cds
    It should look like /SMINSTALL/51042607_1/DATA_UNITS/EXP1
    Start the installation.
Try to use Java 1.4 or 1.5 and see if that helps.
You need to set the environment variable JAVA_HOME before starting the installation.
    export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java14_64/jre
    Are there any files/directories under 51042607_*/DATA_UNITS/EXP* ?

  • Create a new user for oracle 10G ASM instance with sysdba system privilege

    Hi,
In our Golden Gate Project, we require the SYS user credential to connect to the Oracle 10g  ASM instance to read the database transaction logs. But our client is not providing the SYS user credential to  connnect to ASM instance.
I'm getting the error message "ORA-01109:  database not open",When I tried to create a new user using the  below the steps in oracle 10g ASM instance
    1. Login using "sqlplus / as sysdba"
    2. Create user <username> identified by <password>;
But in oracle 11g ASM instance, I'm able to create new  user  by connecting the ASM instance with SYSASM role without issues.
Is there is any workaround to create a new user with sysdba system privilege in oracle 10g ASM instance?.
    Thanks in advance .

    Hi,
Recreate the password file for the ASM instance as follows:
    Unix:
    orapwd file=<ORACLE_HOME>/dbs/PWD<SID> password=<sys_password>
    Windows:
    orapwd file=<ORACLE_HOME>/database/PWD<SID>.ora password=<sys_password>
Now sys password is reset, we are ready to use sys for ASM management. I decided to create another user ASMDBA as I tried above.
    SQL> create user ASMDBA identified by test01;
    User created.
    SQL> grant SYSASM, SYSOPER to ASMDBA;
    Grant succeeded.
    SQL> select * from v$pwfile_users;
    USERNAME SYSDBA SYSOPE SYSASM
    SYS TRUE TRUE TRUE
    ASMDBA FALSE TRUE TRUE

  • SAP ECC6.0 installation with Oracle RAC

    Hi Expert,
Current we working on SAP ECC6.0 installation with Oracle 10G RAC on AIX 5.3. The RAC are running on two nodes (servers). And we are using GPFS filesystem (not running on HACMP).
Overall we had completed the Oracle RAC installation (CRS+RDBMS) and tested the oracle failover and it work find. Now we want to start with the SAP installation (with HA). In the SAP installation documentation, it did request to create a virtual hostname on the node and execute the sapinst scripts with below command line.
    #./sapinst SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=ascs00
But if we are running on Oracle RAC + GPFS do we need to specify the virtual hostname? If not, which hostname i should use to install the HA for SAP?  Please advice.
    Regards.

And then I'd continue with the documentation at:
SAP on Oracle => SAP on Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC)
There you can find several installation guides for windows/UNIX/Linux

We want to do a Heterogenous Sytem Copy from our ECC5 system landscape on HP-Unix, Oracle 10.2.0.2.0 to win2003 (64 bit), Oracle 10.2.0.2.0.  Oracle version needs to be exactly same after migration as under this version our Production system will run for some time before we upgrade to ECC6 & Oracle 11G on Windows 2008.
The PAM says that ECC5 is supported with Oracle 10.2.0.2.0, though not sure if it's supported as a direct Installation to 10.2 or only as a Installation to Oracle 9.2 & followed by a upgrade to Oracle 10.2.  The migration media for ECC5 that we have recieved from SAP comes with Oracle 9.2, so wanted to check if a direct Installation of ECC5 on Oracle 10.2.0.2.0 is supported?. If yes is this Oracle Installation DVD for 10.2.0.2.0 downloadable from SMP?.
    Thanks

Are you aware that you must have a certified migration consultant on-site to do the migration? see http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration --> FAQ

What you need is not an ECC5 installation media but a new netweaver 2004 media containing the support for Oracle 10g, you'll have to do an R3load migration, backup/restore will not work (different endianess source vs. target).

  • Question about SAP installation with Oracle 10g

I have successfully installed Oracle 10g on Windows server 2008 R2 64bit. I can connect to the database using mysql or through command prompt and run SQL commands.
I started installing the SAP EHP1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 ("51038620_13      BS 7 SR1 Installation Master Windows Server on x64 64bit") The installation goes very smooth. I choose the SAPSID and the DBSID sid, but then it gives an error stating to install oracle and continue or stop the installation & install Oracle. I have tried on continuing the installation since Oracle is already installed but I get the same message again and again.
Does it have to do with ORACLE 10g Sid. My Oracle SID is set to "ORCL" should it be the same as DBSID (during SAP Installation). Or the Oracle needs to be installed after SAP installation gets to the point for Oracle Installation. Please assist what needs to be changed. I can reinstall Oracle if needed. Any tips or comments would be nice.

You can't "change". You installed the Oracle software using "setup.exe" - which is wrong. You also created an example database - which is also not correct.
The Oracle software is installed, according to the installation guide, as
    - start "sapserver.cmd" on the Oracle DVD (the SAP media)
    - install the software according to the installation guide
    - install the latest patchset
    - install the latest PSU patch
    --> and then start sapinst.

For eg if you are doing NW04's installation then path will be
