Oracle installer dies with xp home edition on a laptop

I am trying to installe Oracle9i R2 on a windows laptop (256 megs ram)
running windows xp home editionn and i tried with installation
cd's and downloaded files with same results. Basically after
i select the database type the installer dies.
The interesting thing is i did get Oracle9i R1 running on the
laptop but i uninstalled it using the oracle installer. I even
tried cleaning out Oracle from the windows registry.
Interesting thing is i did get Oracle 9i R2 running on a windows
xp home edition desktop which never has an oracle product.
Anyone have any ideas how i can get the Oracle 9i R2 server running on the
laptop. One more tidbit of information. The Oracle 9i client
software installs without problems.
ted
ps. i have plenty of diskspace. root partition >1.5 gigs and
install directory > 5 gigs.

Same issue as well. I've tried it on a Windows 2000 Server and .Net Server (RC). I select the type of Install (Enterprise Edition), then the installer exits memory at 36%. I posted this to the General database section a week or two ago and never got a response (I didn't know about the install forum until recently). Oracle 9i R1 installs fine on both. I've tried performing an upgrade, I've tried de-installing, etc. No difference. I am able to perform a 9iR2 client install, but the server always refuses to install. I've even downloaded the whole thing twice. Very frustrating.

  • Oracle 9i  for Windows XP Home Edition

Would like to know which version can be downloaded to install oracle 9i for Windows XP Home Edition .. Would like to download Oracle 9i Developer as well...

I can only comment on the database installation. Oracle has now supported 9i for XP professional (no previous versions will be supported). XP home will NOT be a supported platform for Oracle products.
NOTE: There is a bug with 9i installations that the OUI will fail if the CLASSPATH has been set by installations from previous Oracle installations. Before installing 9i you will need to clear the CLASSPATH and then proceed with your installation. Once the installation is complete you can restore the CLASSPATH with your original settings.

  • Is Oracle XE compatible with XP HOME?

Is/will Oracle XE compatible with XP HOME?

I don't think it was necessarily luck, as much as consistency.
I would suspect that your environments are installed for your requirements and are all fairly consistent. And all including the necessary subsystems. And I would suspect you always install Oracle products with XP Home attached to the network, which ensures that the complete network subsystem is installed.
I note from various sites that some of the differences between Home and Pro are at the networking level and the group priveleges level.
I also note that many people have commented about Oracle not working correctly in networked Windows XP when the database was installed without a network connection active and vise versa (not networked when installed with network). And many XP Home users will not be aware that there might be a difference.
Much speculation on my part, and simply an observation that many people - even ones who have installed successfully in XP Pro and are presumably competent - report difficulty installing or running on XP Home.
I admit, it might not be technical at all, but 'technique'.
AFAIK, the P4 bug is not at all relevant to XP environments, is it? And AFAIK it only impacted 8i, which is also not supported in XP.

  • Oracle 8i for Windows XP Home Edition

Could someone please advise which is the correct download version of Oracle 8i to use with Windows XP Home Edition?

As far as I know, your need XP Professional.
On top of that, you'd better download Oracle 9i.
Let me explain: the symcjit.dll library in Oracle 8.1.5 did not work on XP w/Pentium IV. You had to go to symantec.com and download the proper JDK, extract symcjit.dll from it and replace the original symcjit.dll (that came on the Oracle CD or in the download) with the new symcjit.dll
This means that you have to copy the CD to disk, unzip it and replace symcjit.dll in the unzipped distribution.
I do not know if this was fixed in 8.1.7, but 9i installs beautifully on XP Professional, Pentium IV w/512MB RAM.
Could someone please advise which is the correct download version of Oracle 8i to use with Windows XP Home Edition?

  • Oracle 10g on Windows XP Home Edition?

I was reading the installation guide and in Sofware Requirements section XP Home Edition is not listed just XP Professional.
XP Professional is recommended or mandatory, Oracle 10g does not work on XP Home Edition?

Oracle only certifies the database on the Professional edition, not the Home edition of Windows XP. If you are just installing Oracle for personal education, most things will most likely work just fine on the Home Edition.

1)I want to know will there be any problems installing this suite in a hard disk which has Visual Studio Professional installed.Should i use another hard disk to install Oracle 9i DS.
2)Is this download a trial version.
3)Can i install this in Windos XP Home edition.

Definatelly, 9iDS works perfectly with XP in both versions home and professional. It is not a trial version so don't worry about having to uninstall it later :-).

  • Sony reader de-installation messes with adobe digital editions?

after sony reader programme took over my whole computer I removed the programme. unfortunately now adobe digital editions won't read any books any more. I remove and then reInstalled but it isn't helping at all. anyone know how to fix this?

When you have ADE (digital editions) open with  "bookshelves" page with a "Getting Started with Adobe Digital Editions" booklet in it,
    enter cmd-shift-U, or menu/Help/Authorize Computer.
That will ask for your Adobe ID and password and authorize the computer.
Once that has been done you shouldn't need to do it again.
Sometimes you do need to if things go wrong, but you certainly shouldn't have to do it at all regularly.
When that has been done, plug in the Kobo; it should show up in the left pane of ADE.
Use "menu/Help/Authorize Device" and that will authorize your Kobo with the Adobe ID from the Mac.
You can then copy books by drag-dropping onto the Kobo within ADE

  • Possible to pan and scan HD video with your home editing software?? (HD - SD size)

Hi, using Premiere Elements 7 on WinXp and also on Win 7.
I wonder if it's possible for us to do a pan and scan type process with our HD video? I ask because someone gave me some footage from the weekend where the composition was way too wide and large and I'd like to save the video, composed better, an SD quality.
Given the pixel resolution it should be possible. I know that's how they convert 35mm film to fit TV, but when it comes to video, can Premiere do it?
I can crop video in premiere but it will save the video at the same resolution, but all pixelized and looking wonky. How would I save 1080i video pan and scanned to 720 (p) or regular SD (640) which will still look decent on Youtube.
Here is an example (note, I also squeezed the footage to 97% horizontally first)
    Can anyone give a tutorial?
    Thanks

If it's hi-def video, you can import the video into a project set up for standard DV.
Before you use Get Media to get the video, go to Edit/Preferences and uncheck Scale to Frame Size.
When you place your video on the timeline, it will be much larger than the Monitor, and you will only see a portion of it. You should be able to use Crop and Scale to get just what you need and still have many pixels to spare. (And don't forget to press Enter to render the video before you judge its quality.)
Note that, depending on what format of video your original footage is in, you may need to work with the interlacing maybe reverse the field dominance. So I'd do a short test run and output to see how it looks before I committed to a full-length project.

  • Installation of Developer Suite 10g on XP Home Edition

    Dear all,
I downloaded Develope Suite 10g (9.0.4.0.1) from OTN and tried to install on a notebook with XP Home Edition.
The installation failed with the error message that the 'C:\Document \<Userid>\Local Settings\Temp folder is either not writable or no sufficient disk space of 55MB.'
I can manually copy files and folders more than 55MB into the Temp folder. So the problem does not seem to be disk space or writablity.
I am wondering if software can be installaed on XP Home Edition. Would appreciate any advices.
    Thank you.

  • J2EE Windows Installer on XP Home Edition hangs - nothing happens.

Hi, I would appreciate help from anyone. I got an ACER Ferrari 3000 lap top with Windows XP Home Edition (it's pre-configured and it's dificult to get running all bluetooth driver on the XP professional, so I am stuck with the home edition). However, I use it to work on J2EE apps I take home from work so I can keep up. I use Tomcat 5 and I got the jsdk 1.4 with the JAVA_HOME set correctly... Well anyway, I did not have problems until recently when I tried to install the J2EE (j2eesdk-1_4-dr-windows-eval.exe) from SUN with the app server. Funny thing is - I run the executable, it says it's extracting files, it does just so (I guess) for a few long seconds, and then it dies. No errors, no output. No directories either. I searched the registry, the system directories, the control panel, the event log - no trace of the installation. I can't install J2EE (Yes I know XP home edition is not supported - but still, it should install). I found some Korean topics about it but I do not read it. Any one? Please... Thanks.

Please try this: rename j2eesdk-1_4-dr-windows-eval.exe to j2eesdk-1_4-dr-windows-eval.zip and unzip it into some temporary directory using WinZip or some similar tool. Then open command prompt, cd into the temporary directory and run setup.dos command. Note any error messages that might show up in command prompt.
One thing worth checking: do you by any chance have file called C:\Documents on this system? If so, this is known to interfere with installer bootstrap mechanism and you'll see message saying "Error writing native components" in command prompt. As workaround, temporarily rename the file and start installer again.
If you get different error message please post it here.

  • Using oracle 9i on xp home edition

Hi, I would like to know the patch that will allow me to use oracle 9i on my xp home edition computer. I was told that such a patch existed but I haven't found it yet. My email, if that is where you will send me the answer is [email protected] I appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you

    Hello,
I followed the instructions to install Oracle 9i Developer on XP home to connect with a 9i database on a different drive, but i am still having problems trying to get Oracle 9i to work with Forms and Reports.
To begin with, i installed Oracle 9i on drive D(because its bigger than C on my PC) and i was able to connect using the SCOTT schema although i had some configuration tools fail.
I believe the main one was the Oracle Intelligent Agent. The error stated that he Oracle OraHome90 Agent service could not be started and now it pops up as an error everytime i try to log unto my PC.
I tried accessing the error message NETHELPMSG 3534 but couldn't even pull up the document.
I believe i logged on using the SCOTT schema and the remembered i was supposed to restart the system so i did that.
Then i installed Oracle 9i Developer on drive C and got a message saying some configuration tools had failed and i believe among them was the Oracle Intelligent Agent and the Oracle Database Configuration Assistant. I didn't set up the SMTP outgoing mail server and i believe i didn't set up the Oracle HTTP service either.
Anyway, when i try to connect Forms or Reports Builder to the 9i database, i get an error message
ORA-12560: TNS : protocol adapter error.
I would really appreciate it if you could offer me some assistance as i need to get Forms and Reports working ASAP. I have looked at the documentation for 9i Developer but its not really helping. Thank you for your time.
    Sincerely,
    Sam Jr.
