Oracle installtion on Windows 7 Professional

Hi all,
I just want to install oracle 10g on Windows 7 professional. But i am getting error during OUI installation after clickng on next on first screen there is a pop up message of unknown error
can anyone help me out

Pl post exact version of "10g" and whether Win 7 is 32-bit or 64-bit, along with the complete message from the install log file - the only certified version of "10g" on Win 7 is 10.2.0.5, and the install instructions are here -
32-bit - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/relnotes.102/b14264/toc.htm#CIHCFAGA
64-bit - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/relnotes.102/b15680/toc.htm#BABEBBJF
Applying the 10.2.0.5 patch set is mandatory - this assumes you have access to the patch on My Oracle Support. If you do not, then you will need to install 11gR2.

• Connection problem to Oracle 11.1.0 on Windows Professional XP (SP2)

Hello
I've recently performed default installations for 3 Oracle Databases, into seperate homes on a newly formatted Windows
Professional XP (SP2) standalone laptop. For all databases Oracle 10.2.0 (rover), Oracle XE (xe) and Oracle 11.1.0 (fido) I
installed APEX and they worked perfectly.
I then installed my Wireless O2 Broadband for my internet which uses DHCP
I am unable to connect to my databases with the wireless broadband connected. I then bring down all databases and turn
off/disable the Broadband, then restart all databases.
Using commands
Set ORACLE_SID=ROVER
sqlplus system/rover@rover
Set ORACLE_SID=XE
sqlplus system/xe@xe
Set ORACLE_SID=FIDO
sqlplus system/fido@fido
Connections are successfull apart from the Oracle 11.1.0 (fido) database with error
ERROR:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect
descriptor
Can anybody identify my connection problem to Oracle 11.1.0 (fido) database by reviewing my listener.ora, tnsnames.ora and
other configuration files below.
Many thanks in advance
Regards
Ade

Hi all,
I'm trying to install Oracle 8i on Windows-xp
Professional. it gets installed but runs only once.
that means its fails to run once I shut down the
system and restart & shows the message-"oracle not
found" or "tns server is not found". Can anybody
please help me? Thanks in advance. When attempting to install obsolete software on modern operating systems, one must expect problems. I've found that Oracle tends to survive well when installed on a supported platform which is upgraded, but there are usually issues when attempting a fresh install on a newer platform.
Your problem states "Oracle Not Found". Therefore your OS services know that they should be attempting to connect to an Oracle database but the database is 'not found'. Further, it says that the TNS Server is not found. TNS is Oracle's term for 'on the network'.
Is there a business reason that requires you to run obsolete software? If the database software MUST be obsolete, what is the logic behind upgrading the operating system? (In other words - why only upgrade one?)
You need to check the following things:
1) You have a static IP address and host name, and are NOT using DHCP;
(look at or post the result of command line "ipconfig /all")
2) Check whether the Oracle database service and the listener service are running;
(Under "Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administration Tools > Service" or command line services.msc)
3) Tell us how well the listener is running;
(Command line "lsnrctl status")

Dear all
Did you tried installatin of oracle 10g in Window 2000 Server and/or Window XP professional
installation on which one will be more reliable and stable?
As I am choosing which OS will be better as a Server
please help

I don't think XP professional would be recommended as server.
would be better if you use 2000 Server or best if you use 2003 if you like windows environment

• Oracle 8i vs Windows 2000 profesional

Hi! Guys
Need help please! I 'm trying to install Oracle 8i on windows 2000 and I keep getting the error "No top level NT products". I tried chnging the symcjit.dll to symcjit.old as sugested in other forums but I'm still not winning.

Oracle8i is not certified on Windows XP Professional. The earliest Oracle DB release certified on Windows XP Professional is 9.0.1. To get more info on Oracle product certifications, checkout the certification matrix available on MetaLink. It's accessible from OTN home page -> Get Support -> Product certifications drop-down menu.

• Oracle XE on Windows 7 home ??

Hi All,
Does Oracle XE works on Windows 7 Home edition ?
I have a Netbook with Win7, is Oracle XE certified to work on it?
Thanks in advance

If you want to use Oracle XE on Windows 7 try to use Oracle XE 11.2 beta: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/express-edition/11gxe-beta-download-302519.html instead of Oracle XE 10.2.
Current software requirements for XE 11.2 beta don't require Windows 7 Professional Edition: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17781_01/install.112/e18803/toc.htm#BABHICJH.
In my experience this is OK for basic developement and DBA usage on Windows 7 Home.

• Oracle 9i for Windows XP Home Edition

Would like to know which version can be downloaded to install oracle 9i for Windows XP Home Edition .. Would like to download Oracle 9i Developer as well...

I can only comment on the database installation. Oracle has now supported 9i for XP professional (no previous versions will be supported). XP home will NOT be a supported platform for Oracle products.
NOTE: There is a bug with 9i installations that the OUI will fail if the CLASSPATH has been set by installations from previous Oracle installations. Before installing 9i you will need to clear the CLASSPATH and then proceed with your installation. Once the installation is complete you can restore the CLASSPATH with your original settings.

• Oracle 8 for windows

HELP!!!!
im new with oracle. Just wanna ask if Oracle 8 for windows is compatible to any windows version. Im currently using windows xp and i wanna know if i can use the downloadable oracle 8 to create programs using oracle 8. Thanks

I run Oracle 9.2 on a number of machines with XP Professional. You can use 10g as well, if you would prefer.
Just because Oracle doesn't support installing anything before 9i on Windows XP Professional doesn't necessarily mean that it won't work, just that it hasn't been tested. Oracle 8 is old enough, though, that I would be pretty confident you'd run into problems on XP.
