or
C:> sqlplus "/as sysdba" -- Connect as sysdba using OS authentication
or

or

  • Oracle Database Required for Install???

I am doing just some general testing of the 9iAS and Portal server products. I would like to try and build a few test portlets with Java and URL based.
Is a database install of Oracle 9i required to properly work with Portal?
Can I install Oracle 9i on the same machine as 9iAS and Portal?

The installation of 9iAS (portal and wireless option) requires that you first perform a 9iAS Infrastructure install. This will create an instance which will hold the portal repository, etc. See the installation guide for more details.

Trying to access new metalink My Oracle Support (requires Flash) , ending up with error, even i put my CSI # also?
    any body know the fix?
Access to all other features in My Oracle Support is disabled. This account requires one valid Support Identifier.

I had the same problem and phoned support.
I was told the new support site did not work with IE 7 or Firefox 3 and I should revert my browser to a previous release !
Can you believe anyone would release to production a web app that does not work with the current version of the two most common web browsers?
I think the problem is fixed now, but I HATE the flash inturdface and continue to use the old Metalink.

  • How many Oracle Licences required ?

For the purposes of counting the number of processors which require licensing for AMD and Intel multicore chips, “n” cores shall be determined by multiplying the total number of cores by a factor of .50. For the purposes of counting the number of processors which require licensing for all hardware platforms not otherwise specified in this section, a multicore chip with "n" cores shall be determined by multiplying "n" cores by a factor of .75. All cores on all multicore chips for each licensed program for each factor listed below are to be aggregated before multiplying by the appropriate factor and all fractions of a number are to be rounded up to the next whole number. When licensing Oracle programs with Standard Edition One or Standard Edition in the product name, a processor is counted equivalent to a socket.
If you follow the link again and get to the Sun Server table, I don't see a V890 listed. I also don't believe the V890 is using the UltraSPARC T1 processor, so you would end up using the 0.75 multiplier rather than the 0.25 multiplier.
    Given that,
    4 sockets * 2 cores per socket * 0.75 = 8 * 0.75 = 6 processors

  • Oracle Performance requirements

    Hi,
I am going to deploy an Oracle application to a production enterprise environment.
The application is distributed and it will access the Oracle database in different ways:
1.) GUI Access ( user operator interface - platform Windows )
It access the Oracle using ODBC. Access the database when updating tree views, generation of reports,....
2.) Server Access ( several server process in different hosts running with Suse Enterprise Server. No user interface. Native access using SQL API. ). The server uses Session pool!
High workload. Insert event data in database.
The application will have 2000 simultaneous users. The server has a dedicated thread with database access to each logged user.
    Now the questions:
Do I need an RAC configuration to meet good performance ?
Is there any benchmarking ( site, paper ) about the number of transactions that an Oracle database supports by minute ?
Where can I get practice information about this subject ?
    Thank you,
    Faria

Do you really have 2000 simultaneous/concurrent users or 2000 users who will be logged on at any one time? Big difference there cos you could have 2000 users logged in but only 10% (usually less) are actually making requests to the database at any given time. Gotta know your REAL numbers before sizing for performance else, you'll pay for stuff you'll never use.
On RAC, don't bother. It's great for high availability but if transaction throughput is your requirement, just look at Oracle's various benchmarks on TPC, SAP, etc... All the top results, and by a HUGE margin, are on single servers, not RAC.
IMHO, the challenge in performance lies heavily in the design of the system (from app to db to hardware. There are a number of Oracle World presentations on performance and some whitepapers also on the internet DBA section (ignore the marketing stuff on comparing other DBs). Of course, the old guidelines still apply. Eg. Spreading data over more spindles is generally good, memory is your best friend, high speed networks, and of course, don't do any more network roundtrips than you absolutely need to.

  • Oracle BPM requirement

    Hi all,
I have a requirement in Oracle BPM 12c that I want to know how I can achieve that. Suppose I have a hierarchy of three users
    i) Initiator ------------------>>> ii) Manager ---------------------->>> iii) Director
Initiator submit a request and lets say manager have approved it then it will go to director tasks. Now manager has approved it but latter if he says he did not approved it, how we can check that if he approved or not? How I can maintain that information. Really appreciate for the help.
    Regards

    Hi,
Rajeev is right. You can store the approval information that flows over your project. But you have a couple of options that also can help you to ensure approvals on BPM:
    - You can ask for password or a digital certificate (11g - 12c): https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/user.1111/e15175/bpmug_ws_perform_tasks.htm#BPMUG10445
    - You can define permissions on the Access tab (11g - 12c):
    - You can ask for a comment before select an action (12c):
    - Also you can show the actions only in the task details:
And remember that the audit trail tracks who is doing what.

  • Oracle Forms requires JRE 1.4.2_06, how do I uninstill newer versions

Hi, The Oracle Forms that we use require JRE 1.4.2_06, they will not run in the most recent version of the JRE. How am I supposed to uninstall the newer versions? I went into the control panel and uninstalled them through there and rebooted, but the directories still exist, the entries in the registry still exist and the version reported in the console is still 1.6.0_05. What else do I need to do?

    I sorted this out myself.
Downloaded the latest stable xerces binary (2.5.0) from http://xml.apache.org/dist/xerces-j/
Then I extracted xercesImpl.jar and put it under:
    %ORACLE_HOME%\LIB\endorsed
I had to create the endorsed folder as it didn't exist.
Then, when invoking Saxon using java.exe, I added the following switch:
    -Djava.endorsed.dirs=%ORACLE_HOME%\LIB\endorsed
    That's it.
You can find some background info on:

  • Oracle RAC requires ODP?

I am starting a new project with the following scenario: .Net 2.0 web application accessing Oracle RAC (64 bits) using Data Access Application Block. I would like to know if it is required to use ODP to access Oracle RAC or Microsoft Oracle Data Provider could be used. Another questions: Do ODP supports .Net 2.0? Is it possible to configure ODP in Data Access Application Block?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Luciana

    Hi,
ODP.NET does not currently support ADO2.0. There should be a beta coming up sometime soon for it, and there are other threads you can check to get info to get in on the beta if you want to do that.
A lot of the RAC functionality is handled by the underlying client, so both ODP's should be able to take advantage of it, at least in some sense. However, as of 10.2, Oracle's ODP has additional functionality to be able to get notification when RAC events occur.
I dont know much about DAAP, but believe there are other threads where folks have converted it to Oracle code.
    Hope that helps,
    Greg

  • Oracle installtion crashes on SLES AMD 64 ... plz help

For the past week we have have been trying to install Oracle on our servers, but have failed missrably...
The problem is the runInstaller (OUI), it crashes every time at the exact same place... we have made a strace and just about everything to figure out whats wrong...
Amongst other we have been follwing the instructions found here:
    http://www.suse.com/en/business/certifications/certified_software/oracle/db/9iR2_sles8_amd64.html
    http://www.suse.com/en/business/certifications/certified_software/oracle/docs/920_sles8_install.pdf
this is how we are supposed to install it:
    1) Installed SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 AMD 64 w/ service pack 3.
    2) Installed gcc_old... successfully and as described
    3) Installed devel_libs-32bit... successfully and as described
    4) Installed orarun.rpm package... successfully and as described - user "oracle" and groups "dba" & "oinstall" were created.
    5) Installed glibc-devel-32bit... successfully and as described
    6) Removed existing "binutils"-package on the system (dependant packages also removed in this process)
    7) Installed 32 bit version of "binutils" on the system ... successfully and as described
    8) performed command: export PATH=/opt/gcc295/bin:$PATH
    9) as user "oracle":
Opened terminal and wrote "linux32 bash" - a "uname -m" now returns "i686", this seems to be correct
    mounts first oracle cd-rom..
startet /media/cdrom/runInstaller (without entering the directory itself).
We now experience the following crash:
    - Everything works OK with the OUI, until the part concerning "Installation Types" - after choosing either Enterprise Ed. or Standard Ed. OUI starts to read from the cd-rom, and crashes when the progress bar reaches 66%....with no error messages.
    - We managed to see that the OUI at the above mentioned point tries to load the Java Runtime Environment. We tried to switch the JRE with a version obtained from Blackdown (specifically JRE 1.1.8 v3), which we inserted into /tmp/OraInstall....../jre just before choice of "Installation Type". Same result.
If we do a simple client installation is works fine...
We think we have tried almost every trick in the book... including trying out:
    - env. var.
    - the newest OUI (2.2.0.18) (extracted from the Oracle patch (9.2.0.4))
    - different JRE
    - not installing SP 3
    - starting from scratch many times
This is the last part of the strace:
    9961 rt_sigaction(SIGCHLD, {SIG_DFL}, {0x4002b4b0, [], 0x4000000}, 8) = 0
    9961 execve("/tmp/OraInstall2004-03-02_01-49-45PM/jre/bin/i386/native_threads/java", ["/tmp/OraInstall2004-03-02_01-49-"..., "-Doracle.installer.library_loc=/"..., ... here it continues with about 50 or more parameters...
    9961 --- SIGRTMIN (Real-time signal 0) @ 0 (0) --- ... and then this line is repeated a lot!
    This is the system:
IBM 325 dual opteron, 4 GB RAM, 2xSCSII HD's, qlogic HBA
SLES (SUSE linux enterprise edition) AMD 64
    Oracle 9i 32-bit linux version (9.2.0.1.0)
I hope somebody can help us...
    my email is: ktk(at)te.dk
    Kristian

Nope, I have heard it should work... but we cannot base our production on a developer rls. can we?
We had seen many places it should work, but it doesn't yet... I think all the installtions based on Oracle (9.2.0.1.0) are not on the SLES amd 64, but rather on a normal SLES (32bit)...
Very anoying, because of this we have wasted a whole week!
Instead we now have installed everything in 32 bit and wait for the 64 bit Oracle rls.
This has just been so frustrationg, since we have been on a tight time-frame and SUSE did indicate that it worked... I must admit that we really feel letdown in this case...
    /Kristian

  • Does Oracle Mapviewer / Oracle Maps require a license ?

    G'days Guys,
Firstly apologies if this question has been answered before, but I've not been able find anything under Mapviewer or Spatial Forums regarding Oracle Maps / Mapviewer license.
Can anyone confirm if Mapviewer is Free ? I was under the impression that it comes "free" with the OracleAS which itself requires a license however as long as mapviewer was being run under the OC4J container or Tomcat it was Free ?
I've tried looking on the Mapviewer Website but can't find any information regarding it being licensed or free ?
    Regards
    Mark

    Hi, Mark
As I know, Mapviewer is licensed now under Oracle Application Server and Weblogic Server.
If you want to deploy it to third party J2EE container, you still need a license (OAS or Weblogic)
try to search the forums, there was the same question

  • Oracle client required for Essbase Installation

    Hi
I installed Essbase server and EAS server with foundation services in one Windows Machine.
My RDBMS (Oracle) Is installed on a different Machine.
Do i need to install Oracle client on my Essbase machine to configure with RDBMS? or Oracle Client installation is not required to configure with RDBMS?
    Thank you.

You don't need the Oracle client if you want to configure the foundation database as it uses JDBC drivers which are included in the foundation installation.
The Oracle client is useful if you want to set up Oracle ODBC connections to be used with essbase SQL data loads.

  • Does oracle clusterware and oracle RAC require sun cluster

    Hi,
I have to setup oracle RAC on solaris 10 SPARC. so is it necessary to install sun cluster 3.2, QFS file system on solaris
I have 2 sun sparc servers with solaris 10 installed on it and shared LUN setup(SAN disk RAID 5 partitions)
Have to have 2 node setup for RAC load balancing.
    Regards
    Prakash

    Hi Prakash,
    very interesting point:
As per oracle clusterware documents the cluster manager support is only for windows and linux.
In case of solaris SPARC will the cluster manager get configured ???
The term "Cluster Manager" refers to a "cluster manager" that Oracle used in 9i times and this one was indeed only available on Linux / Windows.
Therefore, let me, please, ask you something: Which version of Oracle RAC do you plan to use?
Because for 9i RAC, you would need Sun or Veritas Cluster on Solaris. The answers given here that Sun Cluster would not be required assume 10g RAC or higher.
Now, you might see other dependencies which can be resolved by Sun Cluster. I cannot comment on those.
For the RAW setup: having RAW disks (not raw logical volumes) will be fine without Veritas and ASM on top.
    Hope that helps. Thanks,
    Markus
