Oracle instance just stops abruptly

Hi
I am not able to open the oracle application forms when I log in from home to the instance.
In the windows explorer i can sign in the instance but when click on to open say, Payables Invoice Form, everythig just stops abrubptly.
I have windows explorer 7 and mozila installed on my desktop.
Can some one guide what could be the issue at the earliest ?
Thank you
Shanks

  • Oracle instance crashing when enabling use_indirect_data_buffers=true

I have a Windows 2003 EE server (32bit) with 16GB of ram hosting a 10.2.0.2 Oracle server which is used to support a commercial software package (arcsight). I'm trying to get the Oracle backend to leverage the available system memory. I've read 50-60 different articles and posts regarding AWE and Oracle. I have successfully tuned the userva parameter in order to get the server to boot stable with the /3gb boot parameter. I've gotten to the point that the oracle instance will start up, but within about 30-60 seconds the instance will crash. Below is the information I believe that is relevant:

I appreciate any input on what to look at to further isolate this issue. I'd run into many other issues along the way (setting AWE_WINDOW_MEMORY to a proper size, setting db_block_buffers to a proper value, etc) that various forum searches helped resolve but I've not been able to find anything related to the errors I'm getting now. If I set use_indirect_data_buffers=false and tune back the db_block_buffers, the instance starts without any problems. Its just when I try and enable the use of AWE that I'm having a problem.

Just wanted to close out this tread in case anyone else runs into a similar problem. Turns out we ran into a bug documented in the below linked article (we're using AMD processors). Essentially needed to disable NUMA.
    http://blog.csdn.net/orapeasant/archive/2007/06/05/1639532.aspx
    excerpt ....
But please be aware of Bug 4494543 - affecting 10g and fixed in Oracle 11.0 ......
    ORA-7445: CORE DUMP [ACCESS_VIOLATION] WITH USE_INDIRECT_DATA_BUFFERS=TRUE
    Rediscovery Information:
    1) Using 32-Bit Oracle on a 32-Bit Windows 2003 server running on an AMD Opteron 64-Bit chip.
    2) You have set use_indirect_data_buffers=true in init.ora
Workaround: Basically disable NUMA feature on 32-Bit platform :-
    1) Set ENABLENUMA = FALSE in Windows registry for the Oracle Home.
    2) Set enableNUMA_optimizations = FALSE (init.ora)
Thanks for the help. We'll see if access to the extra memory will be useful or not .....

  • Flash Audio Problem -- Audio stops abruptly

    Gidday guys,
As part of a website, I currently have a page that includes
11 different flash files. For each flash file, visitors can click a
button to play a small audio clip, and click the button again to
    stop the clip from playing.
The problem I have is that each flash file plays 1-2 seconds
or so of it's sample before stopping abruptly. Each sample is
supposed to be around 20 seconds long. IF I remove 10 of the 11
flash files from the page, the one that is still there will play
fine - but as soon as I introduce multiple flash files, the audio
    starts dropping out again.
I've tried arranging the audio into the flash files in two
    ways.
Firstly, I just linked the mp3 files from the library to the
    stage via
    quote:
    soundInstance = new Sound();
    soundInstance.attachSound("voice");
    & then
    quote:
    soundInstance.Start;
noticing that this caused a problem, I tried making a flash
file that called a .swf with the streaming sound in it such as:
    quote:
    playbit.loadMovie("annavoice.swf");
but the problem still remained. I've tried it from 2
different PCs, and the problem shows in both. It's not a bandwidth
issue, as it occurs whether I try to load the page locally or from
my server...Any suggestions for solving this problem would be
really really appreciated - cheers gang. :D

  • Issue in Weblogic Server - Server Stops abruptly

    Hi All,
I am facing an issue with Weblogic server(8.1). One of the managed servers stops abruptly. Server run for some days. After 5 or 6 days it stops without giving any log message. Admin(mgt server) and this managed server are running in the same box(AIX Environment). Below is the only log I got. Any idea why it is happening?
According to the BEA Message it may be due to network problem. Since both the servers are running in same box, i don't think it is network issue.
Can anyone please help me on this? - thanks in advance

I think you should be able to follow the same steps but whenever you come across Domain B in the instructions, just substitute the values for Domain A. Because it is the same domain you may not even have to go through some of the certificate steps. If you have questions I suggest you post them in the WLS Security forum.

  • GotoAndPlay Just Stops

I am using gotoAndPlay in a function with ENTER_FRAME event.
I believe that it goes to the frame (used trace) but it just stops
and won't play. I have been working on this for a couple of hours
and the closest thing I could find to an answer was this post
"gotoAndPlay won't work with the enterFrame event.
for example in the '_parent.gotoAndPlay(45)' , the playhead
will keep going to that frame 45 and will never get further.
You'll need to workaround that (using variables + a loop in
    the _parent for instance). "
Could someone explain this and give me some type of work
    around. My code is below

what do you expect will happen when you repeatedly direct to
"energyStart"? how can the playhead possibly advance past that
frame while your loop is executing?
so HINT: terminate that loop when inFrame is called which
begs the question, "why use an ENTER_FRAME loop, at all"?

  • CSS11501 VIP just stops after a day or two

We have a CSS11501 that we are using to frontend an oracle colaberation suite cluster of unix servers. There are two servers in the first cluster. I have set it up to have a single load balanced vip with the following content services (http, imap, smtp, port 7777, and port 9401). Two other servers have a different load balanced VIP for their http and LDAP funtions. We are trunking in from a Cat3500XL switch the two vlans (10 "public" and 250 "private server") via the gig interface. It works fine for about a day or two then the VIP just stops responding to any traffic. We have done dumps on the servers and they are not getting any traffic through at all. Each server has a seperate VIP & source group set up as a straight pass through for maint access, these continue to work fine. I have tried stopping and starting the services, content rule, and source groups. even totally deleting the VIP and recreating it does not work. Rebooting the switch was of no help as well. If I recreate all of the content rules on a new VIP and assign the services it comes up fine but the old VIP address just stays dead. It is almost like the VIP has a limited lifespan and then shuts down. Any suggestions would be helpfull as this is a new technolagy for me. Thanks.

you will have to capture a sniff in front of the css to see if it is receiving traffic for the vip.
You can also do a 'sho summary' and see if the hit counter is increasing.
Then check the upstream device and verify the mac address associated with the vip.
Make sure the L2 cam table is pointing to the CSS.
Do you have redundancy turned on ?
Finally, not sure what is the colaboration suite exactly, but if this is a software loadbalancing tool, you may want to stop using it if you have a CSS. Simply configure the server independent from each other.
In the past we have seen many issues when trying to combine both software and hardware loadbalancing.

  • DEV and QA within single oracle instance

We need to have our DEV and QA in a single oracle instance. Scripts that refer to tables names in DEV will be copied over to QA for QA testing when unit testing in DEV has been completed. In DEV, we extract data from 5 source systems, one for each US state, which use the same application so the source table names are identical, and therefore in our staging area we have a schema per state such as TX, GA, MD and we extract data into staging tables that are identical to the source tables. Since we do cross state aggregation our scripts have to refer to TX.employee and GA.employee in the same sql statement.
What is the best design for this using SCHEMAS, VIRTUAL PRIVATE DATABASES, VIEWS , SYNONYMS etc?
    Thanks in anticipation

Just for my knowledge, if I did find myself in this situation would VIRTUAL PRIVATE DATABASES make sense here?I suppose you could potentially use VPD. But that would create major problems if you ever wanted to make schema changes-- you couldn't add a new column to a table in DEV, for example, without that column also being available in QA. You couldn't have code in DEV that didn't exist in QA. I suppose you could get really fancy and use 11g's edition-based redefinition to have a dev edition and a qa edition but I'd hate to think how you'd promote code to prod in that sort of environment. Plus, editions is an enterprise feature (at least, I'm not sure if it's an extra-cost option) which would tend to be beyond the pocketbook of a company trying to save on licensing costs by combining dev & qa in a single non-VM server (let alone in the same instance).
You could potentially have your application use all dynamic SQL so that dev could use the DEV_TX schema while QA used the QA_TEX schema and it was just the TX schema in prod, but that obviously gets old really fast. You could create a single set of synonyms so that the TX_FOO synonym points to DEV_TX.FOO for the dev users and TEST_TX.FOO for the test users but then you'd have to remove the schema qualifiers from all your SQL statements.
In short, an application like you describe trying to share an instance would be a rather massive undertaking.

iPhoto just stopped working. It loads pictures, but then goes into rainbow wheel forever. Then I try to force quit it, and then the whole Mac hangs up (had to power cycle it to get it back). I am using OS 10.5.8, and when I run software update, it assures me I have up to date software. I have not added any photos since the last time I used it, probably less than a month ago. What gives?

Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Two Oracle Instances

    Hi,
We had a SAP Netweaver engine (ABAP stack) installed with Oracle 9i in a server. We wanted to install XI instance in the same machine. So we installed the XI instance with a new Oracle 10g database. Now, we are not able to start the old Oracle server. However we are able to start and stop the new Oracle database.
Can multiple Oracle instances can be installed in the same machine?
    Regards,
    Venkat

    Hi,
    yes, they can.
But you have to take care about environment variables.
You have to move Oracle related from system environment variable %PATH% into the %PATH% of corresponding SAP (<sid>adm) user for corresponding Oracle.
    Sample:
    System Path:  ...c:\windows\system32... %OHOME10%\bin;%OHOME9%\bin....
    Correct:
System Path:  ...c:\windows\system32... - nothing related to %ORACLE_HOME% here
    <sid1>adm Path: ... %OHOME10%\bin... etc
    <sid2>adm Path: ... %OHOME9%\bin... etc
Then login under <sid1>adm or <sid2>adm correspondingly and make your admin activities.

  • Oracle instance often down!!!

    Hi
I've have an Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4) 64bits database installed on a x64 window server. The server itself has 16gb ram. My current SGA + PGA is about 4-5gb memory, processes=500 but I am still getting random problem like oracle instance killed/down, low swap page memory from OS, listener could not hand off client connection etc. Should it be the existing server RAM(10-11gb RAM free after deduct from the SGA+PGA allocated) is more than enough?

    FireFox88 wrote:
So far from what I can recall my database server used to once a while getting "Significant virtual memory paging was detected on the host operating system" until i turn the OS page memory to system manage which is to use whatever hard disk space available, only then the warning seldom/rarely occur. listener could not hand off client connection is another error quite often prompt. When ever this error prompt, most of the time I've to bounce the database instance.Speculation - could be caused by PGA, as a result of poorly written PL/SQL code using very large PL/SQL arrays (for bulk collection). I have seen a single PGA (private process memory of a dedicated server process) growing to 50% the RAM size of the server. I have even seen a couple of server crashes due to the kernel being starved of CPU time due to swap space thrashing.
Before resetting a server in such a situation - get whatever diagnostics available. The problem will be gone (for the time being) after reboot, without the ability to get an actual look at just what the heck is going on. There are some magic sysrequest keys on Linux that is useful - all you need is the ability to echo specific keys to a proc device in order talk to the kernel and request various data and process dumps. Pity you are using Windows - not the easiest of kernels to troubleshoot.

  • Cannot access Oracle instances

    Hi,
I'm hoping I can get some help. I am currently trying to access an Oracle instance, however whenever I try to access the instance via Oracle appliactions (enterprise manager, SQLPLUS) or a third party application, the application just hangs. I get no error message returned whatsoever. I have also tried connecting to a 'non-existant' schema and I get back the message 'TNS could not resolve service name' which i would expect. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi
    sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora look ok.
Used tnsping on the service and it has returned:
Used TNSNAMES adapter to resolve the alias
    Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)
    (HOST = cvge561a)(PORT = 1521))) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED) (SERVICE_N
    AME = GEOSTORE)))
and from there it just hangs
I have tried the NET configuration wizard and go through the steps of editing the current listener. I have selected NO to configure another listener and then the application just hangs again.
This is all that is returned from trying to run sqlplus in the command prompt

From here, it does not connect to the DB, neither does it give an error message. However, if you put in the incorrect values, it will return:

  • Oracle instance crashed

    Oracle-Version: 9i R2 9.2.0.1.0.
    Hello !
My oracle instance crashed and I found the following message in the log file :
LGWR: terminating instance due to error 472
Instance terminated by LGWR, pid = 1304
I have not found any other messages and the ORA-00472 message says that the PMON process terminated with error.
Did anybody have the same error ?
I need to know why the instance crashed.
I hope you can help me. Thanks in advance.
    Andreas

The 472 is just the error issued when the Oracle background processes are signaled to terminate. It would appear log writer took an error and either notified the other background processes to terminate or it terminated and another backgroun process detected the problem, probably smon, and killed the rest of the system processes.
Look in the bdump directory for the log writer trace file and see what it says. There may also be some entries in the alert log depending on exactly what happened.
If the database fired back up without problem and the problem does not reoccur frequently then if might just be one of those things. However, if you can find the trace file and error messages for the problem cause then you should probably open an iTAR with Oracle support to find out he fix/work around.
