Oracle into Solaris for Intel

Does the Oracle database for Solaris for SunSPARC, works into a
Solaris for Intel?
Do you know, where I can download an Oracle for Solaris for
Intel?
That Oracle database version is the only one, wich is not in the
OTN download page.

I bought Sun Solaris 8 (Intel platform) from SUN - you just have to pay the media & shipping fees. Oracle 8i (for Intel Sun Solaris8) was included in the package .
Check on www.sun.com for more details.

  • How to Install Solaris for Intel so that it boots off from a boot floppy?

    Hi all,
Sorry to bother you with this one (I went through all documentations/manuals and could not find straight answers to following
    specific questions):
I have one hard drive with 1st partition used by Windows XP and a second partition that's a blank FAT 32 (using Partition Magic)
I want to use for Solaris for Intel.
    My very specific questions:
(1)That blank Fat32 partition: can I run the Solaris install over it ..or should I absolutely make sure that it's a blank UFS formatted
partition? I am asking you that because all manuals (except one) pretend that I can run my Solaris install on a blank Fat partition...
but I believe that documentation at multiboot.solaris-x86.org stresses that if the partition is not a blank UFS one, it wont install Solaris
(2)As you already know, some Oses like Linux or FreeBSD can be installed on a partition and be booted off a boot floppy.
So without that boot floppy, no trace of the OS. How can I do that with Solaris for Intel. I want my Solaris to boot off a boot floppy only.
BTW, I currently have Solaris 7 for Intel.
    Thanks for the answers.

(1)That blank Fat32 partition: can I run the Solaris install over it ..or should I absolutely make sure that it's a blank UFS formatted You can install Solaris to that blank FAT32 drive but Solaris WILL convert it to UFS BEFORE doing the install. In other words, after the install it will be UFS and not FAT32 anymore.
So without that boot floppy, no trace of the OS. How can I do that with Solaris for Intel. I want my Solaris to boot off a boot floppy only. Not that I know of. Some people have reported booting Solaris off of a USB drive though.

  • Oracle Instant Client for Intel MacOS X

Hi all, this is my first post here (so I don't know if it's the proper place, but to try it is free. Sorry for any inconvenience).
Anybody, can confirm/explain why, one year after launch, there isn't one available download of Oracle Instant Client for Intel MacOS X?
Without it's impossible, for example, to compile PHP with OCI support under Intel MacOS X (native mode) and it's really a pain.
With PPC version existing since ages, wouldn't be absolutely easy to recompile that cool stuff for Intel MacOS X?
TIA and ciao, Eloy Lafuente :-)

    Hi again...
just to know a bit more... two months later... how is customer demand going...?
Have you searched for "macos x instant client intel" ?
    Aren't PHP/Perl/Ruby applications enough?
I sincerely think it's a big mistake to don't offer native connectivity for MacOS X Intel users... of course, your mistake.
Some developers, like me, will stop developing/improving Oracle support in their applications just because they use MacOS X to develop. So, those applications won't run ok under Oracle, no matter where you deploy them.
With thousands of applications running natively under MacOS X Intel... isn't there (@ Oracle) able to recompile that tiny piece of software to run under Intels... sorry but I cannot believe it.
I'll email SJ right now! Ciao :-)

  • Where Do I Download Solaris for Intel?

    Hi!
Can anyone tell me where do I download Solaris 8 for Intel?
When I can use Solaris for SPARC will I have any problems
using the Intel one? Are they any differences in commands
    or so?
    Thanks
    Tom

You can no longer download Solaris for Intel. You can order it @
    http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/binaries/get.html
When you get it sucessfully installed you should not see any difference in command set from The SPARC version.

  • Where to download Solaris for Intel ?

    Hi
I would like to download Solaris for intel so i can learn and understand it more, i'm in a foreign country and paying to get the CD is not easy , that's why i want to download it , any url ? from where i can dowload ?
    Thanx

You can't get the Intel edition anymore. Only SPARC. Sorry... Sun decided to not support Intel anymore. I can sort of understand why though.

  • How is solaris for intel

    Hi
My boss wants to use Solaris for Intel instead of Solaris for Sparc and he wants me to research which one is better, i.e. more stable and secure. I don't know how good solaris for Intel is. Please explain.
    Many thanks,
    Cindy

I use both Solaris x86 and Sparc... Depending on your budget is going to vary which one you should use. The real difference is the processor architecture and cost.
I have seen both in production and both work very well. Matter of fact Lucent uses x86 in all their Telecom Noc environments and it works really well. I use it as a desktop OS because my boss it cheap and won't buy me a Sparc machine. With the x86 lacking bootprom I prefer the sparc installtions. Depending on what you are using it for depends on which I would recommend. Both are good.
Sun was really driving the Intel version some years back and Intel stopped helping them develop for the x86 instruction set. So that's where it lies... You can get patches and software for both platforms usually.

  • Sun Compiler on Solaris for Intel

Is Sun Workshop C++ compiler with RogueWave library available on
    Solaris for Intel platform?

I believe this is the case with Workshop 6, which is downloadable as a Beta from the developer connection website, but I haven't checked.
http://soldc.sun.com/workshop6ea I think is the URL.

  • SOLARIS for INTEL: Have future?

I could find few products without roadmaps for Solaris/Intel. Without apps, I need to change the platform.
Who can know more about this situation?
    Regards
    Cheet CTICTI

Solaris for Intel is a low budget variant of getting Solaris out there. The application support is mainly for SPARC based systems if you are trying to buy software. But there is a plethora of free and open source applications out there too. Get yourself a copy of gcc and start compiling your favorite apps that you find at http://freshmeat.net.
Since you make no specific requests, it's hard to mention what apps are available and which ones aren't.

  • Can you install 9iDB  on solaris for Intel

If yes, where can i get 9i for solaris-Intel (or do i use the one for Sun-sparc).
    Thanks

    Hello dear people,
I'm trying to install the 9i Database for Sun SPARC (32-bit) on an Intel machine with Solaris 8 running. I followed all steps of the installation documentation, but when I try to execute the runInstaller programm, I get always the following error:
Syntax error at row 1: '(' unexpected.
Can you tell me, which is actually the terminal Release for Intel Solaris? I were very pleased.
    Thanks,

    Hi.
This is not a supported platform per http://edocs.bea.com/wls/platforms/index.html. We support solaris on sparc, not intel.

  • Cluster with Solaris for Intel?

Simple question: Is this supported? Is this possible? Do I need anything
else beside the Media CDs or Solaris 7/8?
The idea of this is to let our students try out HA. We don't have
any Sparcs left for this purpose, but we have lots of PCs.
    Thanks,
    Harald Backert

Clustering is very dependant on the hardware.
The Sun Cluster solutions uses Sun's standard server and
storage product. Therefore, it is NOT support on Intel.
If you need it on the Intel platform, I am sure Intel has its
    own clustering solution.
To setup a cluster solution, you will need, beside the OS, Volume
management software(Solstice DiskSuite or Veritas Volume Manager),
Sun Cluster Software(Sun Cluster 3.0 is the latest) and others.
