Oracle IPM, UCM architecture

I'm a newbie to Oracle ECM. After setting ECM & IPM, I'm bit confused on the repository. Is Oracle ECM not a unified CMS? Are there separate repositories for IPM and UCM?
I shut down the content server and even then IPM was working fine. What is the advantage I get if I connect IPM and UCM using CIS?
Does anyone have any sorts of material which describe the underlying internal architecture of UCM and IPM?
Thanks!

In the beginning, there was a company, Optika and a company Stellent. Optika had a product called Acorde, later called IBPM, now called IPM. Stellent had a product called UCM. Stellent bought Optika and ultimately Oracle bought Stellent.
As of IPM version 7.7, the repository remained unique to IPM and does not use the UCM repository. IPM is workflow oriented more so than UCM. UCM, is what it the acronym says, Universal Content Management.
I'll leave it to others to describe where the 2 products are headed. There is a public wiki at wiki.oracle.com that eventually will have this info.
If you can get to:
http://www.oracle.com/products/middleware/content-management/index.html
you should find more info.

Hi, we need to create the test environment from our production for oracle AP Imaging. we have soa, ipm, ucm and capture managed servers in our weblogic..
Can anyone tell me what is the best way to cloning the application from different environment, the test and production are in different physical server.
Can I just tar the weblogic file system and untar it to the new server and make the necessary changes?
Can anyone share their experiences and how to with me?
    Thank in advance.

    Hi Katherine,
yes and no . You need as well weblogic + soa files as the database schemas (soa_infra, mds...).

  • Can I use Oracle IPM with a third party content managemen system?

    Hello,
Our client has a requirment to use Oracle IPM with a non-Oracle content management system. That is they don't want to Oracle UCM. Is it possible? If yes, can you please direct me to some kind of documentation.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Abhishek

I think you should draw a scheme of your architecture for yourself.
    An A/P solution consists of:
    - scanning (hence, ODC/ODDC)
    - repository of images (IPM based on UCM)
    - workflows (BPM as a part of IPM license)
    - connector to an application (usually, Oracle EBS Adapter is used here)
If you don't intend to use any part of the solution (e.g. you have a different ERP system than EBS, you have your own repository), you can replace it with your own parts. However, be aware that you will have take care of the integration - Oracle can integrate for you only those parts that Oracle has under control (ODC is integrated to UCM/IPM, IPM/UCM is integrated to EBS, workflows know how to call UCM/IPM services). Of course, it uses open standards (web services or RIDC), so you may implement the integration yourself.

    Hi,
Is this error being thrown after an annotation has been created or is it across all documents when viewed ?
Do check the UCM repository connection that has been created and if so perform the following steps :
Correct the Repository Proxy Setting to the UCM Connector in IPM.
    Log into IPM.
    Select Manage Connections.
    Select the UCM Connection.
    Click Modify.
Verify the Repository Proxy: Enter the name of the repository proxy. By default, the repository proxy name is fmwadmin. This field is required.

  • Adding SQL Server provider to Oracle based UCM

I am trying to add a SQL Server provider to 10g Oracle based UCM.
I downloaded a jdbc driver from MS and placed it on the Linux server.
How do I get UCM to parse it?
I tried adding the jar in intradoc.cfg:
    JAVA_CLASSPATH_defaultjdbc=$SHAREDDIR/classes/ojdbc14.jar;$SHAREDDIR/classes/junk/sqljdbc_1.0/enu/sqljdbc.jar
That caused UCM to not start.
I tried adding a line to
    JAVA_CLASSPATH_sqljdbc=$SharedDir/classes/junk/sqljdbc_1.0/enu/sqljdbc.jar
This one didn't work, but I guess I didn't expect it to.
    Has anyone done this before?
    Thanks,
    Ken

Sorry to reiterate, but what exactly you are trying to achieve?
I understood that you have a UCM server running on Oracle DB (for metadata only? both metadata and content? anything else?) and now you want to relink it to SQL (to have data in both databases? or new data in SQL? or migrate later Oracle to SQL? or SQL will contain some specific data only?)
If you are trying to migrate, I would rather install a system from the scratch and then migrate the data.
If you are trying to run both databases in parallel, pls. write more details about your use case - there might be components that can do the work for you.

How much time do you want to spend? I've been learning the Oracle internal architecture for over 20 years and there are still new things to learn. (Well ... it also depends on what you mean by 'internal architecture'.)
If you want the basics - the Oracle Documentation set at http://tahiti.oracle.com has a Concepts manual that does a decent job of describing the basic architecture. And the Windows Platform Guide, the Unix Administrator's Reference give a fair bit of additional information. As does the Oracle Networking reference.
And there are courses. Oracle University courses provide a decent overview of the architecture. And Jonathan Lewis, Richard Foote and others give excellent courses and seminars on specific aspects of the architecture.
ANd there are books. Search for books by Tom Kyte. Robert Stackowiak.
    And internet search.

    Hi Eric,
When you log back in to your account at ilearining.oracle.com, there should be a support link. Please post your question to the iLearning support team. You could also contact Oracle University at http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=225. This is an Oracle University product rather than an Oracle Certification product, so they would be the best team to assist. I hope this helps.

  • Oracle UCM vs Oracle IPM

    Hi ,
Whats the difference between UCM and IPM, When we need to go for IPM ?.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Karai

Until 11g, they were separate products (if I remember it correctly, I/PM was a .NET application, while UCM was/is a Java app). Since 11g, I/PM is an add-on to UCM, ie. it is built as an application enhancement on UCM's Content Server.
I/PM is designed to process (mainly scanned) images and bind them to processes such as Accounts Payable in EBS. Unlike UCM, it has a restricted use of Oracle BPM Suite for modeling, executing and monitoring of processes (UCM license contains only BPEL PM) and I believe there is a bunch of reference processes to EBS available somewhere. Therefore, use I/PM if your client is looking processes on images. Yes, you can do the same with UCM only, but I/PM will provide you with more convenient tools. If your client needs both imaging and working with live documents, you are probably looking for the ECM Suite product, which contains both (together with URM).

    Hi,
There seems to issues in the profiles which being created in UCM.
Can you check the Trigger Field which has been configured for the profiles ? If the trigger field has been configured as Type, can you change it to any of the other custom defined Information fields and then create the application.
To access the Trigger Fields navigate to the WCC web console, Administration --> Admin Applets --> Config Manager --> Profiles --> Trigger Field.
    Thanks

All services are dependent on one-another. Seems like from below, Security, Storage and UCON have not been setup properly. Check each one carefully and retry.
    - Set the system to use local security for now and it can easily be switched later.
    - Turn on Verbose logging in the configuration tool - more detail will be added to the logs.
    - Filer Server error is usually because the SQL user/pwd are incorrect.
    Hope this helps!

  • Oracle Access Manager, ADAM & Oracle ECM - UCM integration?

I`m currently investigating the potential of using Oracle Access Manager (OAM) as a tool that allows connections to multiple Active Directory(AD) or ADAM servers providing a single point to author and manage users with a good easy to use GUI.
The UCM will connect directly to OAM and authenticate users connecting from AD accounts..
At the moment we use Quest software to manage users, but the cost for setting up users is £15/user where as OAM is only £3. I believe..
Right the questions I have :)
    1. Has any one set this type of environment up?
    2. ls OAM stand alone or will I need additional software to set it up?
Reading the installation guide it says I need the following:
    # Oracle Internet Directory 10g (10.1.4.0.1)
    # Microsoft Active Directory
    # Oracle Virtual Directory Server 10.1.4.0.1
    # Oracle Virtual Directory Manager 10.1.4.0.1
    # Oracle Virtual Directory Patch 10.1.4.0.1 (P5667977)
    # Stand-alone Oracle HTTP Server 2.x (This needs to be preinstalled in your environment. You can download the OHS 2.x standalone from the Oracle SOA Suite 10g Companion (10.1.3.1.0) release from here.)
    3. Can I use IIS instead of Oracle HTTP Server?
    4. Can I install OAM on 1 server or do I need multiple servers, I`v been looking at the diagrams and reading through the guides I`m getting a little confused with Identity and Access server?

The OAM identity system (identity server and WebPass) sound like a good fit for what you want to do. One constraint is that if you want to create/manage users in different directory instances via a single OAM identity system installation, you would also need OVD.
And yes you definitely can have IIS host the WebPass - OHS, OID etc are not required.

    Hi,
I am new to the Oracle UCM 11g.
