Oracle/Java Time Discrepancy

I have an Oracle procedure that rebuilds the index and a java application that calls the procedure. I don’t pass any timestamp at all, I just tell it to start and how long (approx) to run and then post the results in the GUI. When I run the procedure in the Oracle SQL Developer the start time is correct, however, when I run the same procedure though my Java Swing app the time stamp is 4 hours ahead of the current time. This confuses the users and is driving me nuts! The DB and the application are on one machine so there shouldnt be a time discrepancy. Any advice on how get Oracle to have the right time?
For a test I ran the following code:
public void retrieveTimeZone()
String query = "select to_char(current_timestamp, 'dd Mon yyyy hh24:mi:ss') from dual";
CallableStatement cs = null;
ResultSet rs = null ;
logMonitorList = new ArrayList();//reset list
TimeZone tZone = TimeZone.getDefault();
System.out.println("Java Date=" +new Date().toString());
System.out.println("tZone=" +tZone.toString());
try
logger.logEvent(className, "retrieveTimeZone", "Query=" +query);
cs = getDBConnection().prepareCall(query);
rs = cs.executeQuery();
while(rs.next())
System.out.println("Oracle through Swing app time="+rs.getString(1));
catch (SQLException e)
logger.logEvent(className, "retrieveLogMonitor", e.toString());
finally
//close connections etc…
The output is:
Java Date=Thu Jun 12 17:18:57 EDT 2008
tZone=sun.util.calendar.ZoneInfo[id="America/New_York",offset=-18000000,dstSavings=3600000,useDaylight=true,transitions=235,lastRule=java.util.SimpleTimeZone[id=America/New_York,offset=-18000000,dstSavings=3600000,useDaylight=true,startYear=0,startMode=3,startMonth=2,startDay=8,startDayOfWeek=1,startTime=7200000,startTimeMode=0,endMode=3,endMonth=10,endDay=1,endDayOfWeek=1,endTime=7200000,endTimeMode=0]]

    Thanks!

    Thanks for your help, it got me going in the right direction. It appears that since I'm using an older version of the JDBC driver (the app Im working on is about 6 years old), there is a discrepancy in time zones. This issue was fixed in version 11 of the JDBC driver. Heres the code that fixed it:
    TimeZone tZone = TimeZone.getDefault();
    OracleConnection oConn = null;
    try
    oConn = getOracleDBConnection();
                   oConn.setSessionTimeZone(tZone.getID());
                   stmt = oConn.createStatement();
                                                   rs = stmt.executeQuery(query);
              catch( SQLException e )
                   throw new SQLException( "Error running XYZ procedure : " + e.toString());                          }
              catch ( DAOException e )
                   throw new DAOException( "Error running XYZ procedure : " + e.toString());               }
              finally
                   if ( rs != null ){rs.close();}
                   if ( cs != null ){cs.close();}
                   if ( stmt != null ) {stmt.close();}
                   if(dao != null){dao.close();}

  • Are my kernel panics due to the Java Updater (com.oracle.java.Java-Updater) ?

    In the past few months I've been getting more kernel panics than usual. This is on my late 2012 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 Mac Mini, running OS X Yosemite (OS X 10.2.2) with 16 GB of RAM.
    Looking at the console logs following the last panic, I can see that immediately before the crash, com.oracle.java.Java-Updater had been spamming my log. Here's a sample:
    3/20/15 11:58:45.317 PM com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: (com.oracle.java.Java-Updater[77795]) Could not find and/or execute program specified by service: 2: No such file or directory: /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Resources/Java Updater.app/Contents/MacOS/Java Updater

    From what it looks like, com.oracle.java.Java-Updater had sent around 77,000 message like this before crapping out.
    I'm out of ideas — both regarding whether Java is actually responsible, and if so what to do. I need Java for a few programs I run, so deleting it isn't an option, unfortunately.

  • Was asked to install Oracle Java 8 and now after LibreOffice asked for Apple Java 6

    Hello,
    a few weeks ago I was told by a webpage I need java, it was a movie site, so I was doubting it and so I went to the oracle page via google search and found Java 8 (jre 8u40-macosx-x64).
    Today I installed LibreOffice and after first opening ittold me, that I need Java 6 and asked, if I want to search for it. I let it search. There was not the usual browser window -like thing (which I guess is the App-store, where I am offered to upgrade to 10.10 for free and told that there are 4 incompatible updates for iLife products available). Instead it was just a small progress-bar window that had the title "apple software update" (or similar).
    I then quit it, because it was not making progress.
    Now I close LibreOffice and then thought "well lets install Java 6", but this time I was not asked to install it. Also "apple software update" doesn't offer it, when I launch the blue "A"-icon (i.e. Appstore?).
    What do I need? Should I delete Java 8? How do I get Java 6?
    I found this, but it doesn't help me: http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/webnotes/install/mac/mac-preferences.html and Apple Java Vs Oracle Java? Do I need both?
    THANKS!!!
    Machine: Mac Mini 2012, 10.9.5

    Thank you! In the meantime I found that item labeled as "2014-001" on the apple.support page.
    It mentions that it will remove all Java web applet and that there was a certain button one has to push to install it. I don't find the button "missing plugin" (well maybe that will come once it is needed?)
    Can Apple J6 and Oracle J8 coexist?
    From the fact that apple's J misses the web applet, I guess they will complement each other right?
    Also, am I right, that, if I go to Safari/Firefox -> Security I can disable Java for web stuff (but it will be still intact for Java applications like LibreOffice) and once I will encounter a webpage that wants Java, I will be told and can activate it in Safari/Firefox -> Security ? (Since I guess it is better to disable Java on the web???)
    Will the web sites always tell me, if they need Java or will pages not work and I will wonder why?

  • So I can update my Oracle Java Applet Plug-in to Development Kit 7, Update 65, can you link me to the correct Oracle download page from your Plugin Update page?

    When I periodically accessed your Plugin Check and Updates web page in the past, I really appreciated you connecting me to the correct Plugin Updates vendor web page when I clicked on your red Update Now button. This time, however, your Java Applet Plug-in "Update Now" button linked me to the Oracle Java "7u65 Updates Release Notes" instead of the usual download page. It seems rather unexpected for me, or any other conscientious user for that matter, to search the appropriate "JDK 7U65" file download from the Oracle website.
    Thank you,

    This is getting way too complicated for normal peop.
    First: the "Update Plugin" does not work, it goes to a page with all sort of computer jargon but no "Update button" anywhere.
    Second: this forum jscher2000 gives a good solution, but I downloaded the incorrect java update, because my computer is 64 bit. how am I supposed to know my browser is what it refers to and that FF is 32 bit.....???$%^&*()??
    Third: some of those "critical update" software are not even on my computer....well at least I don't think it is, I search for "shockwave" and did not find it.
    I love Moz FF but the updating is starting to get out of control. why give us (computer idiot) an auto recommendation update not tailored to our computer? Perhaps in big letters at the top there should be an explanation "this is general suggestion these plugin needs updating, not to tailored with your computer, do your own research"
    and/or add info I need to know like the 32 bit thing, took me forever to download the 64bit update for JAVA and it was the wrong one.
    Now I am just afraid to update anything for FF because it is too darn confusing.

  • Oracle Java Compiler 11g - JVM ERROR

    Hi Jdev Team,
    I have an issue to report,
    Sometimes when run a project and navigate through the pages, i get the following error message:
    Oracle Java Compiler 11g

  • Problems with installing Oracle java or reinstalling Apple Java

    Hi all,
    I need Java for an online government course I'm taking. A 'technical test' available tells me that my java is out of date. I am directed by the course software to download Oracle Java for Mac, version 8u45.
    I'm running Mac OSX 10.7.5, but I suspect my computer originally ran Snow Leopard, prior to a laptop upgrade by a well-intentioned friend. The computer is from early 2009.
    When I downloaded Java 8u45, I could see the Java icon in the System Preferences pane, but when I clicked on it I got a window announcing a Java Control panel...that I could never open. Hence I could never adjust any security settings to allow the website in question to run.
    I see that Oracle Java needs 64-bit browsers, and mine are 32-bit - maybe this is linked to the problem?. Though when I uninstalled 8u45 and tried to download Apple Java (for OSX 2014-001) and went to my plugins in Firefox, I was promptly told they were unsecure and directed to an update of, you guessed it, Oracle Java 8u45.
    Any ideas? I don't feel great messing around with Java stuff with my limited knowledge.
    Cheers
    Emma

    Hi Elmar,
    have u found any errors , or warnings in the detailed log while installation?.
    i think from the detailed log , we will get what has happened during installation.
    some errors might have happened at the time of creation of this  table DAV_PROPERTY.
    just try to stop the installation and start new one.
    if its again stucked in the same step ..
    i think the Max DB installation has finished.
    u can start reinstallation by deleting this table  from data base ..try this..
    details about this are in the link

  • Java 8: Pb with new java.time api

    Hello,
    I'm trying to use the new java.time api that comes with Java 8 (I already know joda-time).
    I'm using the latest build B124.
    I've a String "01/08/2012_00:00:01", I know that the time ref. is UTC, and I want to convert it to an 'Instant';
    I tried:
    DateTimeFormatter FORMAT_DT = DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern("dd/MM/yyyy_HH:mm:ss").withZone(ZoneOffset.UTC);
    Instant instant = Instant.from(FORMAT_DT.parse("01/08/2012_00:00:01"));
    But it fails with following error:
    java.time.DateTimeException: Unable to obtain Instant from TemporalAccessor: {},ISO resolved to 2012-08-01T00:00:01 of type java.time.format.Parsed
         at java.time.Instant.from(Unknown Source)
    I don't understand what's wrong with my code, and I can't figure out how I should proceed to convert the String to an Instant ...
    Any suggestion welcome,
    Best regards,
    Bernard.

    Originally you stated this:

    So naturally we focused on how to "understand what's wrong' with your code.
    You will never learn to troubleshoot problems if you just throw your hands up in the air and ask for help just because a complex series of steps doesn't complete successfully.
    Break the process into its individual steps and check the results of each step to identify which step is FIRST producing an error.
    When a complex or multi-step process has an error you start checking the individual steps of the process to see how far it gets successfully.
    I would expect that converting a String to an Instant should be a basic/simple need, so it should be possible to do it in two lines of code; for the time being, the only way I found is to use a LocalDateTime intermediate variable, which seems quite verbose, and I'm wondering if someone knows a better way to do it, and would be willing to share it here.
    Just a technical distinction: your latest example using a LocalDateTime intermediate variable CAN be done in one line of code by just using dot-notation to avoid creating an explicit intermediate variable. But that variable will still be created implicitly behind the scenes.
    Converting a String to an Instant might be considered a basic/simple need but the set of functionality related to dealing with times, dates, calendars, etc is extremely complex. It makes much more sense to develop the requisite functionality in modules.
    Especially when introducing new functionality such as the 'Instant' class are related package elements introduced in 1.8. That functionality builds on what came before and parsers already existing that know how to deal with all of the possible String variants and formatting options and so on.
    Since that work CAN BE done on-the-fly using dot notation and anonymous implicit intermediate classes there isn't much need to reinvent that functionality in the new classes. If certain uses become standard new methods can always be added (e.g. to the Instant class) that will 'appear' to do things in one step.
    And, being an early adopter release, you can always file a 'bug' or enhancement request from the 1.8 download page. That page has links for 'Report Bugs' and 'Feedback forum' that you can use.
    In this current forum no one can give you an 'official' answer as to why something was implemented a particular way and/or whether that implementation is a 'bug' or was designed to work that way. Only Oracle can do that.

  • Using java.time.LocalDate class

    Hello,
    I am using the latest JDK8 build b87 and JDeveloper 11.1.2.1. In the editor, the code insight does not show the java.time.LocalDate class. When I use the LocalDate class, it is highlighted in red. However, I can compile and run the application fine. Other classes in the java.time package, for example, the Clock class is fine. I can use classes from the java.time subpackages fine. How can I fix this issue?
    Thanks
    Kishori

    JDeveloper does not support JDK 8 as indicated by the certification matrix.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/index-091111.html
    java.time.LocalDate being a new class, code insight does not support the class.

    Have you set the version of Java that you want used?

  • Cannot open Photoshop: get error: To open "Adobe Photoshop CS5.app," you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now?  However installing Java SE 6 runtime does not fix nor does installing Oracle Java SE 7. Adobe says Apple is problem.

    Searching the internet for solutions to this and some discussion with Adobe.
    Adobe say Photoshop does not use java so it should not be asking for a java runtime.
    The question is how can I stop Photoshop asking to install java since Photoshop does not need or use Java to run?
    Found various links that might be helpful:
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/58203/mountain-lion-with-java -7-only/58841#58841,

    However as I have Oracle Java SE 7 installed and SE 6  is deprecated and no longer supported for security reasons.
    Apple is actually responsible for Java 6's security. They take Oracle's code and do whatever is needed to make it compatible with Apple's OS. Java 6 is still getting security updates from Apple. Versions 6 and 7 can also exist on the same drive. They won't interfere with each other.
    Also I am assured in no uncertain terms by Chris Cox over at Adobe that Photoshop CS 5 does not use java at all and that the java error message  and so called dependency is just an error on the part of Apple.
    I did find a topic where Chris stated that for CS6, which I know is true. I've installed CS6 (and CC) on a newly formatted drive in Mountain Lion, and neither made any mention of requiring Java. Could have sworn CS5.5 and earlier did you Java for a few functions. Though I likely only assumed that since that version and earlier always causes a prompt to install Java if it isn't already on the drive.
    So is there any way to run Photoshop with SE 7 only installed or even better with no java installed?
    It doesn't really matter much if Java is installed. Java 6 should put an app in the Utilities folder by the name of Java Preferences. Open that, and you can completely disable it by undoing the check boxes.
    Perhaps there is a way to make OS X stop thinking it needs java SE 6 to run Photoshop CS 5.
    Apple would have to make a change to the OS itself. It's a not a user accessible setting.

    I have installed jdk from AUR. I have my 32bit chroot environment set up exactly at described on the wiki.
    This error only happens when I set LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/java/jre/lib/i386 before launching Firefox. But without this, the libraries aren't found. For example, in the Java console I see errors like:
    libjawt.so. No such file or directory
    I've spent ages searching but I can't find a solution.

    Download the tar.gz installer and untar it to a location like /opt.
    Once you untar the archive, add the bin directory to your PATH variable and your should be all set to use it from the terminal.
    OR use sudo update-alternatives to set the java command to pick up your installed version.
