Oracle Licence Details

I am planning to buy an oracle 10g standard edition.
What are the features available in it ?
Will it support ' Partion table' and 'nested table' features ? Should i go for a separate licence for it or Entreprise edition ?
regards,
JJ

In Chapter 1, that document provides a list of 'features and options' by 'edition'.
In that you will see that partitioning is an Enterprise Edition option.

    Hi Jan,
If I understand correctly you are going to perform database migration activity in your present landscape. Firstly you have to contact SAP as well as one of the third party hardware vendor (who is going to provide certified HANA hardware). SAP will provide you all the license details.
For whole your migration activity below link will be helpful:-

  • How many Oracle Licences required ?

    Hi,
Can somebody help me in understanding the number of oracle licences required for the following server specifications :-

Please be elaborative , as I need to understand and learn, how is it being calculated.

For the purposes of counting the number of processors which require licensing for all hardware platforms not otherwise specified in this section, a multicore chip with "n" cores shall be determined by multiplying "n" cores by a factor of .75. All cores on all multicore chips for each licensed program for each factor listed below are to be aggregated before multiplying by the appropriate factor and all fractions of a number are to be rounded up to the next whole number. When licensing Oracle programs with Standard Edition One or Standard Edition in the product name, a processor is counted equivalent to a socket.
If you follow the link again and get to the Sun Server table, I don't see a V890 listed. I also don't believe the V890 is using the UltraSPARC T1 processor, so you would end up using the 0.75 multiplier rather than the 0.25 multiplier.
    Given that,
    4 sockets * 2 cores per socket * 0.75 = 8 * 0.75 = 6 processors

  • Oracle host details given a service name

    Hi,
I have requirement of obtaining Oracle host details( IP, Port, SID) given a service naming (tnsname). I want to do it programmatically in VB/VC++ (Windows).
    How can I do this?
One approach that I tried is reading the Oracle_Home from registry, then locating the tnsnames.ora file in the Oracle_Home, and reading the information from the file.
This works fine when user has tnsnames.ora file at the default location. But we are facing problem when user has multiple oracle homes or when the tnsnames.ora file is not at the default location.
I would like to know if there is a better approach than this to solve this problem.
Can some oracle API help in solving this problem.
Please help me in this regard as I am stuck for more than week on this problem. I did search in google but could not find anything relavant so far. So please help me.
    Thanks a ton,
    Subrahmanyam.

This works fine when user has tnsnames.ora file at

Set up a TNS_ADMIN environment variable that points to the directory where tnsnames.ora file is.
Into this file, you can have multiple database in different version.

  • Oracle Licence policy

    Hi,
We have oracle 8i on TRU64 CLUSTER(active/passive) with 4 cpu on each machine.
As its active/passive cluster only one machine will be active at a time.
What should be the oracle licence policy on this kind of environment.
Do we have to pay for licence of both the machine or only one.
    Thanks in advance

Yes, in fact, Oracle trusts the Customer will install and use the software according to the Oracle License Agreement. It is easier for both parties. If ever Oracle finds software misuse on the customer's side, the oracle representative may invite the customer to regularize the software or Oracle can sue the customer and most probably Oracle will win the trial. As you can see, you can download and install whatever you want, Oracle software is in no way protected like other software, but it doesn't mean this software is free and you can only install what you are entitled to, As previously stated this is only for your records.

  • Oracle licences

we have the Oracle9i database server installed on windows 2000 and need to do some web projects using CGI/Perl from a linux user account. However I couldn't install the DBD:Oracle module on our linux machine. I checked some reference and they said to have a full client install of
oracle on linux is needed. Is it true? The problem is that what we bought is Oracle 9i Releasse 1(9.0.1) CD Pack for Microsoft Windows. Do we need to buy another licence to install oracle client on linux? Is there any other way to
    install DBD:oracle?
thanks a lot for your help!
    Jenny

Oracle is very greedy. I believe that you do need a licence for each named user (as opposed to concurrent user), and server that you have. See the link below for their terms of licensing.

  • Oracle Licencing in Solaris Zones

    Scenario
If we setup a server with 6 processors and we setup 1 resource pool with 4 processors called oracle_pool.
We then create 2 Oracle Containers both using the same resource pool, ie "oracle_pool", will I require 4, 6 or 8 Oracle Processor Licences ?
The CPUs are single threaded to keep it simple.
Every example I find only talks about one to one relationships between containers and resource pools.

I think your Oracle sales rep would have the final word on this, but I believe you would need 8 cores of license (2 x 4 core). Assuming you're not using a [discounted core from a multicore system|http://www.oracle.com/corporate/contracts/library/processor-core-factor-table.pdf] . You wouldn't owe for just 4 cores even though you've made a 4-core pool because you have 2 containers sharing that pool, which doesn't meet the '[hard partitioning|http://www.sun.com/third-party/global/oracle/consolidation/Containers_Oracle_041305.pdf]' requirement that would limit it to 4 (basically a pool dedicated to a single container).
As far as I know the licensing terms always refer to physical processors not
virtual processors. So 6 physical CPU's requires a licence for 6 processors.Looking at the first linked PDF, they track cores, not sockets... but they typically count each core in multicore as 0.5 or 0.75 of a license (so a single socket quad-core Xeon may need 2 licenses, not 4 or 1). But I don't make quotes for a living, so I may be totally wrong :)

  • Extended oracle error details

I've been using the OracleExecption, and OracleError class to retreive any errors that an SQL statement has generated, but I don't seem to be able to find the extended details of which line/column the error in the SQL statement relates to.
Does anybody know how to get this information, or when this information will be made available? It's been there in existing Oracle interfaces so I can't understand why it's not in this interface.
    Thanks

Thanks for the response but that will give me the details of where the error is within my application. What I'm after is knowing more about the error that has been generated from an invalid SQL statement.
Within my application the user can specify SQL statements for obtaining data from the database, but if they type in a large SQL statement, and when it's submitted to the database and Oracle produces an Invalid Column name error, I need to know which column/part of the SQL statement contains the error.
Using other legacy oracle tools you could find out which row and column within the submitted SQL statement caused the error. Does anybody know if this information is accessable via the new .NET interface.
    Thanks

As part of some customizations to modify the details pages, we need to insert some custom JavaScipt on Oracle CRM pages. What we understand is that this is possible using a Custom Web Applet and adding the applet to the sections layout. But with this the Custom Web Applet section bar show up in the details page.
Is there some way in which this custom JavaScript can be added to the pages without any additional sections showing up?

  • Oracle Licence Query

    Hi,
I have an application to be migrated from Country to a Global DC. The application runs on Oracle 10.2g and both Oracle and Application are on the same server. We need to migrate this application to a new server in GDC and vendor informed that he would re-install the app and setup Oracle. There are 7 Oracle DB's on the current server and vendor say they provided licence for only 1 Oracle DB. Nobody know from where the licence for other 6 DB's were procured.
Question: Is there a way to find out licence number for other 6 Oracle DB from the server itself? On the server along with lincece number can we find who the provider was..? Whether the app Vendor or Oracle directly?
We are unable to proceed with Migration until this info is not received.
Any info on this is highly appreciated
    Regards
    Nitin

First, let's get the usual dire warning about licensing and internet advice out of the way: Licensing issues are best confirmed by Oracle sales representatives.
One licenses a database server and not individual instances. There are two types of licenses: NUPP (named user) and PP (processor).
If the server was licensed for x number of users spread between the 6 databases and your new database would add another y new and distinct users you would need to purchase an additional y units of NUPP licenses. However if your database server has a processor license, there is no additional licensing required, however many database instances you cram into the server. This is for physical servers - for virtualized hosts this issue gets a little murky.
Now on the question of license number, there is nothing in the database that will tell you that. If the license is registered to the vendor then only they will have the information you want.

  • Obtaining application Oracle error details

I feel I should know the answer to this but I can't find it so I'm asking.
I am supporting a Delphi (i.e., compiled) application that accesses an Oracle database (Oracle 10g, Windows XP). Right now under certain circumstances the application encounters an error and puts up a message box saying there was an error of type ORA-00942 -- table or view does not exist. I have looked in various trc and log files trying to find the name of the table or view the program was trying to access, but with no success. For the database TRACE_ENABLED is true. Windows event logs also contain nothing relevant.
Is there some way I can coax Oracle into telling me the name of the table or view over which it is stumbling?

The "No current SQL" makes it difficult to diagnose !
Is there any other information -- prior SQL statements from the same Process (database session) in the trace file ?
If you know which database session is likely to raise a 942 sometime in the near future you could enable SQL Tracing on that session for a while and you'll be able to identify all the SQL statements and, as you walk through them and compare them with your application code / expectations probably identify the issue.
Another way is to Audit DROP Table or Drop View executions OR create a DDL trigger to log all Drop Tables or Drop Views !
