Oracle License schemes

We are using oracle software for development.is there any licensing scheme for oracle for development?.How many user can use the database?.
Please send license scheme details.
Thanks & Regards
Cyril J Britto

Hi,
Oracle Database or for that matter any Oracle technology products are licensed using 2 metrics
1) Named user plus
2) Processor(CPU)
Named user plus can be used when the number of users accesing the database can be easily identified or counted.
Processor based licensing is done when there are unlimited number of user accessing the database /application
eg: Internet based application where a count on the number of users is not possible.
If one has valid license's and is under proper support from Oracle one NEED NOT pay extra for the new versions that are released by Oracle.
Hence you should ensure that the licenses are renewed year on year so that you are eligilble for updates/ upgrade as an when released by Oracle.
Thanks,
BT.

  • Oracle Text (schema CTXSYS): additional licence costs?

    Hi,
it's my understanding that through installing and using Oracle-Text (schema CTXSYS) no additional licence costs arise (for Oracle Enterprise Edition).
I'm asking this question in this forum just to be sure that my understanding is not wrong...
    Many thanks
    JH

As far as I know this is correct.
Oracle Text is neither listed as an Entreprise Edition option in US price list:
    http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/pricing/technology-price-list-070617.pdf
    nor in Licensing Information:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/license.112/e10594/toc.htm .

  • Can't access tables in other Oracle database schemas

Hi. We got our Oracle database admin to install APEX in our Oracle database. She created a login and schema for my Oracle database user so that I could work with APEX a little. Here's the information on the version of APEX we have installed:
    Database Version Information
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production
    PL/SQL Release 11.2.0.2.0 - Production
    CORE 11.2.0.2.0 Production
    TNS for IBM/AIX RISC System/6000: Version 11.2.0.2.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 11.2.0.2.0 - Production
I've found that my user is only able to access Oracle tables within my own Oracle database schema. Most of our main tables are in 3 other schemas and I'd need access to all tables in all these schemas. Right now whenever I encounter a drop list of values for Schema, only by own schema is available in the list of values.
Is there something our Admin can do to make these tables in other schemas available to my user account?

    Sharpe,
This documentation should point you in the right direction. It will show you how to add multiple schemas to a workspace.

  • Oracle licensing in Solaris zones

    Hi all,
I've read a few documents about Oracle licensing :
    http://www.sun.com/third-party/global/oracle/consolidation/Containers_Oracle_041305.pdf
    http://www.oracle.com/corporate/pricing/partitioning.pdf
However, there's one thing not clear to me. In Solaris zones, you dedicate threads (usually referred to as 'CPU' on Solaris) to zones. Oracle licensing is always about the number of cores used by the partition, not the number of threads. How do you convert from threads to cores?
    I'll give an example:
A T2 system with 2 processors, 8 cores each, 8 threads each (128 threads in total). You create a resource pool with 2 CPUs (threads): 1 thread from one core, and 1 thread from another one (or they are assigned like that for you) and associate a zone that runs Oracle.
I can think of two ways of calculating the number of cores used:
    1) divide the number of dedicated threads by the number of threads per core: 2 / 8 = 0.25 (optionally round it up to 1) -- This is how IBM does its licensing.
    2) count the number of physical cores that are being used by the zone. In this case this is 2, as the threads are not running on the same core.
Can anyone help me figuring this out?
    Thanks!
    Regards,
    Mathieu

    Hi Dezutterm,
I'm not a sales guy, but from how I understand things... you've already figured it out yourself:
    dezutterm wrote:

Can anyone help me figuring this out?Like you've seen, Oracle cares about how many cores are running Oracle software, not threads (from "Processor" definition here: http://www.oracle.com/corporate/pricing/technology-price-list.pdf). If you have 2 cores running Oracle software, you take "2" and multiple by the Core Processor Licensing Factor for that model of CPU (http://www.oracle.com/corporate/contracts/library/processor-core-factor-table.pdf) which for a T2 is 0.25... meaning you need 2 x 0.25 = 0.5 processor licenses. If you would have used both threads from the same core, you would need 0.25.
If this isn't correct, somebody please let us know, thanks!

  • Oracle Licensing for a server with Quad Core Processor

I know Oracle Standard Edition ONE is only licensed to install on a server with a max of 2 processors.

    2) Can we have 2 Quad Core Processors on the server and install the Standard Edition One ( and comply to Oracle Licensing) ?

Therefore you MUST get the final answer from someone with authority to speak on behalf of Oracle - and that is a Sales Rep.
However, in the mean time, you can read http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/pricing/sig-070616.pdf .
SPECIFICALLY LOOK AT PAGE 15. Many people (including some in this thread) are totaly wrong about how Standard Edition is licensed.

  • Oracle licensing

    Dear All
I am writing this query to take a dessition on the purchase of Oracle licenses for my company.
My company is planning to impliment Oracle E business ERP . The following are the detaild spec of my company's enviornment.
    Server
HP Proliant DL 380 G5 server
    core duo 2 GHz processor
    4 GB RAM
    C drive Mirrored
    D drive RAID5
In my company almost 50 users are expected to be use the erp software
We are planning to install Oracle Database and Application in the same server.
Our ERP implementing company is saying that they are using Oracle 10g DB (Std Edn)and 10 g Application (Enterprise Edn)
They send me a proposal for the licensing (Named User Licensing)
Here I am confused with this licensing structure
Can sombody guid me which kind of license i want to purchase
    Regards
    sumanlal

Here I am confused with this licensing structure.
    named user?You have two options:
    1) Named users plus --> If you can determine the number of users (or an average)
    2) Processor --> If you cannot determine the number of users
Is it the Oracle users which we are creating in Oracle?
(User name and password to log in to the ERP)Correct, total number of users defined in the system (not concurrent users).
I am afraid that if I created a user account under Oracle and the same person is leaving the company …. I cannot use that license anymore? Is it true?If you disable this user (account is not used anymore), then you can use the same license for another (new) user.
Can I use the same User ID to log in to the application from different desktops same time?
Is there any limitation on number of sessions that can open by a names user? You cannot just create one account and use it by different users; each user should have his/her own account.
If I am going for named user licensing How many user license I want to purchase
And I am looking for a lifetime license term Refer to the same document, under "How much software do we need to purchase now?" section.
Again, I would suggest you contact your Oracle Sales Representative for more details about the license.

  • Oracle license audit

    Hello Oracle experts,
I am trying to perform an audit on an environment with many Oracle server installations in different regions, I am trying to find the best way to identify the following details for each installation:
Total Processors, RAC, Partitioning, Tuning Pack, Diagnostic Pack, Change Management Pack, Configuration management Pack, Provisioning for database Pack, Service level managment Pack, Database Vault, System Monitoring for non-oracle middleware, System monitoring for non-oracle database, BEA weblogic.
What should be my best approach and if there are any open source/free tools that you have used for similar purposes, or what V$ views would you use to obtain all of the above information.
    Sincerely, thank you,
    -Ar

    Hi Ar
Some of the answers provided are useful but you will be open to enormous risks if you rely on things like:
Querying Oracle for Proc Counts - very often wrong, e.g. Oracle and Windows "think" my laptop has two procs, but it's Hyperthreading, both are fooled!!!
    V$Options - Often wrong
    V$dba_feature_usage_statistics - Often wrong
I'm sure you'll have pre 10g (you mentioned auditing usage across multiple regions??)
Grid Control just doesn't cut it
Plus, anything with agents involved will miss lots - you can be sure agents aren't deployed everywhere
Apps Server & BEA, completely separate way to go about getting info on these..
Now for the good news, I'm with a company who specialize in IT Audit & Inventory including Oracle. We've essentially automated the whole process to provide a single click view of your Oracle (& BEA etc.) deployment, including all the complex interpretation of things like ACTUAL Partitioned Tables and if it means a lic is required etc, packs installed but not agreed etc. etc.
One client has a rolling IT Audit across just under 10,000 Servers on a weekly basis including Oracle inventory. This all runs from a single Servers using agentless scanning.
More bad news it's not free ;(
We're called iQuate, take a look at iqute.com/oracle - doing this stuff for 8 years, with some former Oracle folks joining and giving us a focus on the Oracle space about 2 years back..
We make the whole Oracle License Management process easy. if you were to face an Oracle License Audit or if Oracle License Management Services were to request your usage declaration at any time, it's literally a click of a button and you'll have a declaration report in the format Oracle uses.
    Hope to hear from you.
    Chris.

  • Oracle Physical schema password management

    Hi:
After setting up an Oracle physical schema and attaching a data store, I did a lot of work reversing tables, views etc and using them in my integrations, procedures etc. I never had to look back at the physical schema until we went into production, and the IT have informed me that there is a password ageing restriction for production systems. I made provisions for other system passwords (Planning, Essbase etc) using variables. But I couldn't get my head around to doing it at the Phsyical schema level.
Given that this is a classic problem, has anyone run into this sort of issue before, and if yes, what's the best practice to deal with it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

    Rajesh,
I see that you are using variables in Planning, essbase. On the same lines you can uses the variable as a password in the physical schema for database servers as well.
Not that this is the best practice.
But if your IT has a password ageing restriction - how tough is it for you to change it in the Topology Manager. That is the same as changing it in a database table and refreshing a variable from it but with less overhead.
Or you can change your system to use service accounts. Usage of service accounts is the best practice for things like these. Ask them - How do they run automated jobs on Unix ? Do they change the passwords for those accounts every now and then. I think the answer that you will get is "We use service accounts for that"
Are the database passwords stored in LDAP somewhere. Perhaps you can use JNDI to authenticate your database user/password from LDAP.
In the Dataserver connection properties, you will see the "JNDI Connection" checkbox. If you select it, it will change the next tab to let you add LDAP details.
    Hope that helps

  • Oracle License

    Hi,
I have query regarding Oracle Licensing.
Do we need to purchase oracle License if i am using Oracle 10g release 2 enterprise edition for Developing and testing purpose in my organisation.
    Thanks in advanve.
    BR,
    Rajesh Rathod.

It depends on the license used to download software and the real purpose of development activities. OTN download license http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/licenses/standard-license-152015.html says:
    >
We grant you a nonexclusive, nontransferable limited license to use the programs only for the purpose of developing, testing, prototyping and demonstrating your application, and not for any other purpose.
If you use the application you develop under this license for any internal data processing or for any commercial or production purposes, or you want to use the programs for any purpose other than as permitted under this agreement, you must obtain a production release version of the program by contacting us or an Oracle reseller to obtain the appropriate license.
    You may not:
    - use the programs for your own internal data processing or for any commercial or production purposes, or use the programs for any purpose except the development of your application;
    - use the application you develop with the programs for any internal data processing or commercial or production purposes without securing an appropriate license from us;
    - continue to develop your application after you have used it for any internal data processing, commercial or production purpose without securing an appropriate license from us, or an Oracle reseller;
    - remove or modify any program markings or any notice of our proprietary rights;
    - make the programs available in any manner to any third party;
    - use the programs to provide third party training;
    - assign this agreement or give or transfer the programs or an interest in them to another individual or entity; - cause or permit reverse engineering (unless required by law for interoperability), disassembly or decompilation of the programs;
    - disclose results of any program benchmark tests without our prior consent.

  • Need for an aditional enterprise oracle license in a cluster

    Hello,
I would like to know about the oracle licensing (*enterprise 11g*) of the following structure:
    # Cluster of an active-passive operating system with only one active server. The secondary node will take over the services only in case of failure of the primary.
    # A secondary data center with one more node of the cluster and with data replication from the primary storage.
I know that for the cluster will require the licensing of only one server.
I wonder about the need for one more Oracle license for the second mentioned structure, where the passive server would only be used in case of failure of the cluster.
    Thanks in advance!

You really, really, really want to have this conversation with Oracle Sales. Nothing anyone says here is in any way authoritative-- if there is ever an audit, you really don't want to explain that some guy on the internet with a playing card logo next to his name said it was OK. The answer may depend on the country you're in, your existing license agreements, your ability to negotiate with Oracle, your desire to buy other Oracle products, how much your sales rep likes you, the phase of the moon, how close your rep is to making their quota, your astrological symbol, and dozens of other factors. In other words, any answer would need to be taken with a few hundred grains of salt.
You'll want to refer to the Software Investment Guide, specifically the Backup/Failover/Standby/Remote Mirroring section. In general, you can have one failover node so long as you do not fail over for more than 10 calendar days per year and immediately go back to the primary once it is repaired. In general, you would need to fully license the failover data center. But, as I said, this is all subject to negotiation.

  • How to get the Oracle license#

    Hello,

    Zerandib,
    Please check this link
    Oracle License verstion; PIN number
and oracle install doesn't require any license# or part# or code# to unlock. What you have is licensing agreement with Oracle on some terms (best known to your licensing/purcharing/IT dept) how your company will be using Oracle? But if your intent is to learn and educate yourself, you can download and install oracle for free. Once again Oracle software doesn't require any license or code# to install but an agreement for its Usage.

  • All Oracle Sample Schemas and all Oracle Built-in Packages in XE?

    Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle 10g on my home system to improve my knowledge of PL/SQL. Because I'm doing it at home, I have to solve DBA issues I'm somewhat clueless about.
I would like to install Oracle 10g Express Edition and include the built-in packages (DBMS_OUTPUT, UTL_FILE, DBMS_UTILITY, DBMS_JOB, DBMS_JAVA, DBMS_RANDOM, etc.) as well as the Oracle sample schemas (HR, OE, PM, SH, and IX). None of these, except HR, is included in the express edition.
If necessary, I'd like to be able to install these things after installing the express edition. How can I do this?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
checking the documentation is always helpful:
    http://www.oracle.com/pls/xe102/homepage
    http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/appdev.102/b25108/xedev_programs.htm#i2432
You can always do a quick search on the documentation homepage, e.g. for utl_file:
    http://www.oracle.com/pls/xe102/search?remark=advanced_search&word=utl_file&format=ranked&book=&preference=
There shouldn't be a need to install any packages. They should come preinstalled already.
If not, you can find them here:
    C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\RDBMS\ADMIN
Just be very careful before trying to install something into the data dictionary. If you are not experienced, you might mess up your database.
For example, utl_file is installed but invisible to most users, e.g. HR.
    Look at this example:
    SQL> conn hr/oracle1
    Connect durchgef³hrt.
    SQL> desc utl_file;
    ERROR:
ORA-04043: Objekt "SYS"."UTL_FILE" ist nicht vorhanden

       DATATYPE                     BINARY_INTEGER          IN/OUT
       BYTE_MODE                    BOOLEAN                 IN/OUT
    PROCEDURE FCLOSE_ALL
    SQL> grant execute  on utl_file to HR;
    Benutzerzugriff (Grant) wurde erteilt.
    SQL> conn hr/oracle1
    Connect durchgef³hrt.
    SQL> desc utl_file;
    PROCEDURE FCLOSE
    Argument Name                  Typ                     In/Out Defaultwert?

       DATATYPE                     BINARY_INTEGER          IN/OUT
       BYTE_MODE                    BOOLEAN                 IN/OUT
    PROCEDURE FCLOSE_ALL
    PROCEDURE FCOPY
...So, after granting execute privileges on utl_file to HR, the user HR can now access utl_file. No need to install it.
