Oracle Licensing Question on Processors  - Oracle 10g Standard Edtion One

We are a small finance company and wanted to buy Oracle database 10g Standard Edition One licenses.
We wanted to get a 15 users licenses(perpetual licenses)
Now when it comes to the server hardware where we will be installing the Oracle database, do we need
to make sure we have only 1 (or) 2 processors ?
Is there document which will tell me as what kind of processors or any limitations on the processors speed
I need to have on the Oracle database server ?

Hi,
did you have a look at:
https://shop.oracle.com/pls/ostore/wwv_flow_item_help.show_help?p_item_id=4777527003091012
? As far as I can see licensing 15 users on a 1-2 socket server should not be an issue. If you would have a bit more users you could consider a socket license (5800.- US$ / socket).
With Standard Edition One or with named users licensing you do not have to worry about the technical figures of your CPU. This is only needed when you license Enterprise Edition (EE) based on processor metric because then cores and processor type are used to calculate the amount of processor licenses.
Hope this helps.

David

    Hi Anit,
Is it safe to do so.ALWAYS check with your CSR for licensing deals, things change constantlt.
what are the difference between both the edition.EE has all the goodies! Here is my list of differences in SE and EE: http://www.dba-oracle.com/art_so_oracle_standard_enterprise_edition.htm
what are the restriction i can face if i am moving form 10g enterprise to 10g standard. No replication, no Data Guard, no stored outlines, no MV's . . . .
what are the steps i have to do to do the same.Just install SE, point your $ORACLE_HOME to it and bounce
Hope this answers your question . . .

  • Upgrading from Oracle 10G standard edition to Oracle 10G enterprise edition

    Hi
I want to upgrade from Oracle 10G standard edition to Oracle 10G enterprise edition. Is there any script provided by oracle which I can run on existing Oracle 10G standard edition to upgrade to enterprise edition after completing the licensing formalities or do I need to install Oracle 10g Enterprise edition from scratch and then migrate my data.
    Ramanbir S

You will not need to perform any data migration to upgrade to EE. The diffetence between standard en enerprise editions are the features offered. When you upgrade you can use the same set of files you used to install standard edition and just add the enterprise edition features you want to use in the 'Custom' section of the Universal Installer.

  • What is limit of database size in oracle 10g standard edition/edition one

    Hai All,
What is the limit of database size in oracle 10g standard edition and standard edition one.. I see the white paper of oracle says that the limitation is 500 GB. This limitation is correct.? if correct then what happened after the limit..?
    Please help?
    Shiju

What white paper would that be? I can't see any limit in the Oracle Database 10g Editions comparisons.

  • Oracle 10g Standard One

I want to clear out some issue abt Oracle 10g Standard One and Partitioning. On the internet I have found that one of the Oracle Enterprise Edition Features not available in Oracle Standard Edition One is:
Oracle partitioning - For database over 100 gigabytes
Can someone confirm this? Does it actually mean that there is actually PARTITIONING in Oracle10g Standard One if the database is less than 100GB ?
    thanks

I don't believe partitioning is available in the standard edition (or in Standard Edition One). The comment you refer to is likely explaining the sort of databases that might benefit from partitioning-- there aren't a lot of folks that would want to partition database tables if the database was only a few GB in size.

  • Forms 6i C/S with Oracle 10g Standard Edition

¿Somebody had installed Developer 6i C/S with Oracle 10g Standard Edition on Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Windows XP Professional?
    ¿What about the results?

I believe this particular combination (6i Forms with 10g database) is not actually supported, so is perhaps best avoided.
My own experience is that these forms run ok against a 10g database if compiled against a non-10g database, but if you try and compile the 6i form while connected to a 10g db, the results are unpredictable - forms which compile perfectly well against 9i fail against 10g, with all sorts of horrible looking internal error codes.

  • Oracle Database Standard Edition One's Cost

    Dear all
I am very interest on the Oracle Database Standard Edition One, (US$149 per user (minimum five users)) includes the functionality and the cost (only US$ 149*5). However, I would like to know that is there any hidden cost for it? (e.g. maintaince fee etc.) Meanwhile, is there any backward compatible for the such license (i.e. I buy 10g version but use 8/8i version in production)
Anyone can has such experience and share for it?
    Thanks in advance
    Regards

There is generally a lot of confusion around Standard Editoin One. Here is my understanding, along with rationale and links supporting my understanding.
    1) Standard Edition One was NOT part of Oracle8i, and NOT part of Oracle9i release 1.
Oracle's "Oracle9i Family of products" document, released shortly after 9iR1, does not mention SE1. http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/oracle9i/pdf/o9i_family_features.pdf
    2) Standard Edition One MAY be part of Oracle9i Release 2 family, but it's not likely.
On metalink, there are a few 'forum' documents that discuss SE1 and Oracle9i. However, document #530049.994 from forum thread "Is Standard Edition One available in 9i/9ir2", dated 05-OCT-2004 says SE1 is a 10g new thing. (This post should be available in these forums.)
    3) No-one purchasing a new license should be installing a fresh copy of Oracle8i and probably not Oracle9i
You purchase the license primarily to obtain (be able to purchase) support. Oracle8i is no longer under support (except through an exorbitantly priced extended support contract) and Oracle9i is abount to be mved to extended support. The question is ... why?
    4) Personal Edition is NOT being replaced by SE1.
The Standard Edition One is a subset of Standard Edition - mainly missing RAC, so it is limited to one machine only. From the Oracle Database 10g Licensing document we note that the Personal Edition provides ALL FEATURES AND OPTIONS of the Enterprise Edition, except RAC.
It is fairly obvious from this that Personal Edition is targetted at developers who need metalink access, whereas Standard Edition One is targetted at workgroups that would consider using SQL Server STabdard/Workgroup Edition.
