Oracle Linux 5 (pre-built developer vm)

Hello,
Apologies if this is the wrong forum. Please let me know which forum I should use if it isn't this one.
I'd like to upgrade both the database (Oracle 11.2.0.2) and the Linux (Oracle Linux 5) of the Oracle pre-built vm that I downloaded from here : http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/community/developer-vm/index.html
Database side I'm OK with, getting the zips etc. Where do I get the binaries to upgrade the OS? Metalink doesn't seem to have an Oracle Linux patch section if it isn't for another Oracle product ON Oracle Linux. I'm probably not using it properly.
regards,
Matt

I have no experience with updating the VM image you mention, nor do I know whether this will work or is a good idea. But to answer your question where to obtain Oracle Linux binaries or update the system:
You can download installation DVD's from:
https://edelivery.oracle.com/linux
You can do free updates of Oracle Linux configuring Oracle Public Yum using the el5_latest repository and typing "yum update" at the command line. More info at:
http://public-yum.oracle.com/
Upgrading from one major Oracle or RHEL Linux release to another, e.g. 5.x to 6.x is not supported and cannot be done by yum or other package managers.

  • Do the "Pre-built Developer VMs" work on Windows 7 Home 64-bit OS

    Hello,
    Do the "Pre-built Developer VMs" work on the laptops with Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit Operating System?
    Thanks

    Yes, Aman you are right. As I guessed it worked. I was not sure that the Oracle Virtual Box will work on Home Premium 64-Bit because the download page did not say anything about which flavor of 64-Bit OS is supported. However, I downloaded and installed ("Oracle Virtual Box and Pre-built Developer VMs"). Afterwards, I tested a few items, so far looks good.
    Thanks for your response.

  • Update java version in pre-built developer VM

    Hi all,
    I got a VirtualBox from Pre-built Developer VM: Oracle WebLogic Server Development . I've got a webapp I want to test on that, but it's java 7. Does anybody have a clue as to how I could update the JDK on that instance? Yum doesn't seem to be able to find any openjdk packages. Java 6 seems a bit old: Oracle Java SE Support Roadmap so I think my request should not be that extraordinary?

  • Is there a pre-built VM with just Oracle Linux?

    I want to try out installing Oracle Database 11gR2 on a Virtualbox without going through installing Oracle Linux in a Windows Host so I'm looking for a pre-built VM with just Oracle Linux. Most of the VMs available in Pre-Built Developer VMs (for Oracle VM VirtualBox) http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/community/developer-vm/index.html already have Oracle Database installed. It seems that my only choice is to use Enterprise Java Development VM. I notice there is something called Oracle VM template but it does not seem to be for Virtualbox. Thanks for any help.

    I would second Bjorn's suggestion to just go ahead and install Oracle Linux from scratch. As a DBA you need to be familiar with a lot of OS level admin stuff, so installing the OS from scratch and doing the minimal configuration needed to install Oracle is, in itself, an important part of your professional development. If you take a shortcut of using a pre-built vm you are just stunting your own growth.

  • Oracle VM Manager/Server Developer VMs

    Hi,
    I am working with the pre-built developer VM's for OVS and OVM and I am new to the Oracle VS/VM area. They are very handy to have and I have used them to create a working eBusiness image. However, I cannot seem to shut them down rather I always have to suspend them, because if I do not then I always have a running (error) or starting (error) status for my server pool when I try to restart them.
    It is also impossible to export the appliance in this state, as it basically shuts them down and then when i reimport the appliance and it restarts, I have the same problem again. What could be causing the (error) statuses? I do not know quite where to look. I try starting them in different orders, but none of this seems to work. I would prefer not to have to reimport and redploy the images as it takes the best part of a day to do with no guarantee that I will not get this problem again.
    Anything is appreciated.

    There is a forum dedicated to virtualization. I admit it doesn't seem to get as much traffice as this place, but it might be worth posting there to see if you can tap into some VM experts (some of the specialist forums are monitored by Oracle employees, although I don't know for sure that such is teh case with Virtualization).
    Cheers, APC

  • Adding OSB to Pre-built SOA OSB BPM (PS5) VM - WC_Spaces template

    Hi,
    I have downloaded and setup the pre-built developer VM for SOA/OSB/BPM using the Webcenter Spaces template. Everything works fine, I am just trying to add OSB to extend the existing domain but getting stuck at the wizard where it asks for the OSB JMS Reporting Provider JDBC connection properties. The steps to get there are as follows:
    Extend SOA domain
    * Start Configuration Wizard:
    cd /opt/oracle/Middleware/home_11gr1/Oracle_OSB1/common/bin
    ./config.sh
    * Select Extend an existing WebLogic domain, click Next
    * On Select a WebLogic Domain Directory screen, select soa_domain
    * On Select Extension Source screen,
    - Select: Oracle Service Bus [Oracle_OSB1]
    - Select: Oracle Service Bus OWSM Extenstion [Oracle_OSB1]
    - WebLogic Advanced Web Services for JAX-RPC Extension [wlserver_10.3] option is also automatically selected.
    - Click Next
    * On Configure JDBC Data Sources screen, select soademoDatabase which was created at SOA Suite install. Click Next.
    * Test JDBC Data Sources, click Next when successful
    * On Configure JDBC Component Schema, select the checkbox for OSB JMS Reporting Provider and enter
    - Vendor: Oracle
    - Driver: *Oracle's Driver (Thin) for Service connections; Versions:9.0.1 and later
    - Schema Owner: DEV_SOAINFRA
    - Schema Password: welcome1
    - DBMS/Service: orcl.world
    - Host Name: localhost
    - Port: 1521
    - Click Next ======> Can't get past here since OSB JMS Reporting Provider database cannot be found!!
    Wondering if there is a way to use the initial setup script to add OSB JMS Reporting Provider DB? I also couldn't find RCU Home so that I could add the OSB JMS Reporting Provider DB to the XE Instance. Any help is much appreciated..
    Thanks

    * On Configure JDBC Data Sources screen, select soademoDatabase which was created at SOA Suite install. Click Next.You may skip this step by not selecting anything. Later on when you need to work with Reporting, you may create a data-source and tables manually.
    And at the next startup of the Admin Server it complains about the JDBC connection not available and fails to initialize it.To avoid this problem, you may follow below steps -
    1. Navigate to directory $Domain_Home/config
    2. Search for string "wlsbjmsrpDataSource" in file config.xml
    3. You will find an entry like below -
    <jdbc-system-resource>
    <name>wlsbjmsrpDataSource</name>
    <target>AdminServer</target>
    <descriptor-file-name>jdbc/wlsbjmsrpDataSource-jdbc.xml</descriptor-file-name>
    </jdbc-system-resource>
    Replace the above entry with below -
    <jdbc-system-resource>
    <name>wlsbjmsrpDataSource</name>
    <target></target>
    <descriptor-file-name>jdbc/wlsbjmsrpDataSource-jdbc.xml</descriptor-file-name>
    </jdbc-system-resource>
    Basically you need to remove the targeting of this DS. Once done, save the config.xml and try to start your admin server now.
    When (in future) you want to use Reporting feature of OSB, just provide the details of DB in the connection pool of datasource "wlsbjmsrpDataSource" and target it to the OSB servers and you will be good to go.

    987942 wrote:
    I welcome any test I can perform to prove empirically whether it is the uek kernel or not.It's definitely the UEK, for the reasons stated above. Oracle Linux 5 Update 6 was the first version of Oracle Linux to ship with the UEK as the default kernel, and we hadn't quite gotten all the naming aspects 100% correct yet. So, the 2.6.32-100 kernel is absolutely a UEK.
    So, on a freshly installed Oracle Linux 5 Update 6 box:
    # uname -a
    Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.32-100.26.2.el5 #1 SMP Tue Jan 18 20:11:49 EST 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/LinuxIf I then upgrade yum (required to get the yum changes to support kernel-uek installs) and then upgrade the box to the latest and reboot:
    # yum update yum
    # yum update
    # rebootWe're now running the latest UEK Release 1 kernel (2.6.32-400.26.2.el5uek) and it identifies itself as such:
    # uname -a
    Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.32-400.26.2.el5uek #1 SMP Tue Apr 23 19:04:54 PDT 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/LinuxNotice that it now says el5uek in the uname string.
    We changed the RPM and kernel identifiers from kernel-uek-2.6.32-100.35.1.el5uek. So, it wasn't in the release of Oracle Linux 5 Update 6, but happened in that update errata cycle. All subsequence releases of the UEK Release 1 (2.6.32) and UEK Release 2 (2.6.39) identify themselves with an el5uek or el6uek marker.
    BTW, is there any particular reason you're using a template that has a particularly old version of Oracle Linux 5 instead of using the latest Update 9? You can find Oracle Linux 5 Update 9 templates under the heading "Oracle VM 3 Templates (OVF) for Oracle Linux 5 Media Pack for x86_64 (64 bit)" on the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud.

    I've imported this appliance (and others) on Windows 7 32-bit on a Lenovo W500, on an iMac, and on a MacBook. The one error you should encounter during the "import appliance" step is a path error related to shared folder (the canned/hard-coded path in the ovf file points to a place that is not likely to exist on your computer, so just comment out the D:\TEMP\Host path, or make it for that matter).
    <!--SharedFolders-->
    <!--SharedFolder name="Host" hostPath="D:\TEMP\Host" writable="false" autoMount="true"/ -->
    <!-- /SharedFolders-->
    You can alter system set memory_target=300M scope=both and set your VM memory to 2.5GB and everything will run fine (using the vmctl script to start up what's needed). The "1" option is all that is needed for the tutorial shown in the documentation. If you run the admin server, you will see things run a good bit slower. Part of the tutorial assumes you know about UCM and how to take the UCM content in the sample files and upload those into the repository. You can delete the file already loaded and then do a single file upload to "re-load" the various directories/folders for the menu/home/etc. Upload the png and other files into the same folder (menu.html, menuBanner.png, etc. all go into the same Menu folder). It's not worth the time to set the bulk upload because you have to go out into UCM and dig around the admin settings, stop/restart, and so on. You can also use the contentadmin user (welcome1) to do the file upload.

  • Pre-built Oracle Solaris 11 VM - Invalid md4 checksum for part04

    Hi,
    Following the instructions and links available at:
    Pre-built Oracle Solaris 11 Express Developer Virtual Machine with Oracle Solaris Studio and GNU development tools
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/servers-storage-dev/vms11expstudio-howto-401051.html
    I downloaded all 4 parts for this VM and the md5 checksums for the first three are fine, however part04 is invalid. I downloaded the part04 file twice with the same results. Judging from the small filesize (only 70MB) it appears to be truncated.
    Can someone investigate this part04 file and verify?

    I have encountered the same problem.
    My workaround was to download the full larger file using a download manager.
    I used DownThemAll for Firefox.

  • Do I have to build adapters to Oracle AIA for pre-built integrations?

    Hello,
    The way Oracle AIA provides pre-built integration packs for Siebel, SAP & other products - how do I develop such integrations for my application? Through AIA foundation packs or do I've to write an adapter to connect with Oracle AIA?
    Thx, Amol.

    There is a wizard in AIA that creates a few composites for you which follow the rules of the AIA-Specification. Then you can fill them with application-specific-code yourself.

    I installed Pre Built Integration 11.2 in Oracle AIAFP 11.1.1.6. After installation I tried to configure by using "Deployment Configuration Wizard" and following the below steps mentioned in the Oracle document
    4. Navigate to <AIA_Instance>/bin and run the command source aiaenv.sh for
    Linux based systems and aiaenv.bat for Microsoft Windows to configure the
    environment.
    5. Navigate to <AIA_HOME>/bin and run the command ./aiaconfig.sh for
    Linux based systems and aiaconfig.bat for Microsoft Windows.
    This launches the AIA DCW.
    6. Click Next.
    However the DCW "Deployment Configuration Wizard" is not listing any of the pre built integration for deployment in the second screen(after welcome screen)
    Please let me know if any specific configuration has to performed or how to resolve this.
    Thanks

    Thank you for the suggestions.
    Before I could read your reply, I uninstalled EPM and re-installed. After installation completed, I launched the Configurator from the last window, instead of launching it separately later. And it worked this time. All the configurations completed successfully.
    But now, I have different issues, I am not able to go to any URL including the Workspace URL. I get 401 error. When I run diagnostics tool, I get a lot of entries highlighted in red. Most of them under the category HTTP. I will post the entries later. I tried stopping EPM system and restarting many times but nothing helped.
    FYI... I deployed them all to Single Web Application Server (Web Logic) and when it asked for Web Server, I chose the WebLogic HTTP server which was the default option. IIS is also installed and services are running.

  • Oracle PeopleSoft CRM pre-built VM Template

    Hey!
    Am looking for a pre-built VM Template of Oracle PeopleSoft CRM.. In the instructions it says:
    Visit http://edelivery.oracle.com/oraclevm
    Complete your registration information (Name, Company Name, Email Address and Country) and click on the download agreement
    Select "Oracle VM Templates" from the "Select a Product Pack" pull-down menu
    Select "x86 64 bit" from the "Platform" pull-down menu
    Click "Go" and then select from the list of Oracle VM Templates
    Download and unzip the files and read the readme
    But I can't find PeopleSoft listed in after hitting the "Go" button!
    Is there any other way to download it?
    Thank you in advance.

    It seems Oracle needs to revisit their pages more often, the link you pointed is really out of date. The PSoft OVM CRM91 PTools 8.50 you read from the page you linked is dated from August-2010 when I see my software repository...
    The Peoplesoft OVM Templates have been globally decomissioned three years ago I think, you have no luck to find out one of them unless you have already downloaded them.
    Nowadays, Peoplesoft is working with the so-called Peoplesoft Images, virtual machine for VirtualBox. Unfortunately, only available for those who have a valid Customer Support Identifier (paid support) and access to My Oracle Support.
    The Peoplesoft images are rebuilt on regular basis, perhaps every quarter - depending of the application, with the highest maintenance level (application and tools).
    Nicolas.
