Oracle Linux 6.1 asm packages - oracleasm and oracleasmlib for OEL 6.1 ???

Hello everyone
I am not ULN subscriber, I am trying to learn Oracle ASM/RAC at work.
I am running OEL 6.1 (uname -rm output is: 2.6.32-100.34.1.el6uek.x86_64)
I am looking for two ASM support libraries which are compatible with above Oracle Linux 6.1 X64
Specifically this article refers to 2 packages I need for ASM support:
http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/OracleDB11gR2RACInstallationOnOEL5UsingVirtualBox.php
•oracleasmlib-2.0.4-1.el5.x86_64.rpm -- I need this one
•oracleasm-support-2.1.3-1.el5.x86_64.rpm -- this package is now already installed on OEL 6.1 so I dont need this one for OEL 6.1
•oracleasm-2.6.18-164.el5-2.0.5-1.el5.x86_64.rpm -- I need this one
Can anyone direct me to a download link for the above two packages? Even if its from RHEL6.1 as long as it works?
Or does it mean that I must pay Oracle in order to be able to get these packages in order to learn ASM at home ??
Why would Oracle allow us to use their RDBMS/RAC/ASM/Linux software at home learning for free and not supply the above two packages??
thanks

•oracleasm-2.6.18-164.el5-2.0.5-1.el5.x86_64.rpm -- I need this oneNo, you don't. This is built into the kernel for OL6U1.

Why would Oracle allow us to use their RDBMS/RAC/ASM/Linux software at home learning for free and not supply the above two packages??If you want to use ASM for free, install Oracle Linux 5 Update 7 and download the RHEL5 oracleasmlib package from here:

Keep in mind that Database is NOT certified on Oracle Linux 6 anyway, so it is challenging to install. The very article you link to uses Oracle Linux 5. It also links to these very same RPMs. If you follow the article more carefully, you won't have any issues.

    Hi
there is a study guide available soon Oracle Enterprise Linux Administrator Certified Associate Exam Guide (Exams 1z0-402 and 1z0-403), that why I will take exam ;-)

Unfortunately LPIC expires after 5 years unless you take a higher level or retake same level .....
    RHCT similarly.
The Oracle exam certification relates to OEL/RHEL 4 ... which is a bit oldhat rather than redht nowadays. The advantage for you is it is an easy win, the disadavantage is it doen't really say much mor eabout yourself. RHSA on RHEL 6 might suit and say more .... but might be harder to gain. Any it wouldn't help any Oracle Partnership points iof that was important. However as pointed out you should be able to waiver 1z0-402

  • Maximum Package Size and Duration for HD Streaming?

    Hey All,
I've taken the HD plunge and am editing my first piece of video. I've finished and I want to export it to stream to my PS3 and/or Xbox. My question is what are the best settings for export to Quicktime MP4 1080 HD for maximum packet size and max packet duration?
Also do I need to optimize for server if I will be streaming from my Time Capsule?
I can successfully stream SD but I don't quite understand all this HD stuff so any and all help is appreciated.

I totally appreciate the thread but my goal is not to copy the file but to get it to stream properly. Right now it stutters a bit during streaming. I am trying to find out if Max package and duration could help.
I'm at 15KPBs on the download and 973 on the upload so it shouldn't be a network problem. I was just hoping someone could explain the max settings and recommend something for streaming

  • How to install oracle 11g on oracle linux 6.1.

Hello everyone here at oracle forum.!
I'm new on using the linux and i badly need to learn it including the Oracle Database for making PHP website.
Because of this i downloaded all the packages of Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 1 Media Pack for x86 (32 bit) at E-Delivery.
Now i was having a hard time figuring out how to install all the 4 ISO images. the only one that worked was was the boot.iso that installed the Oracle Linux 6 without the DB.
So what would i do to use the 3 updates?
I burnt them all one by one on different DVD but it wont look for the other packages.
So please guys bare with me and help me figure out how to use the other 3 packages for i know it has the Oracle Database.
Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 1 source DVD 1 V26570-01
Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 1 source DVD 2 V26571-01
Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 1 Boot iso image for x86 (32 bit) V26573-01

Oracle Linux does not install any Oracle Database. You don't need the source and boot.iso DVD. You can boot and install the system from the Oracle Linux 6.1 installation DVD. The boot.iso is useful for a network install and the source DVD if you want to compile everything yourself.
As far as I know, Oracle Database has not been certified for Oracle Linux 6 yet. That does not necessarily mean you cannot install Oracle Database on Oracle Linux 6 yet, but you will run into problems with software requirements, package dependencies and perhaps incompatibilities, i.e. ext4 file system.
I think your best option is to install Oracle Linux 5 and certainly use Oracle VirtualBox. If you are new to Linux you probably cannot use Linux as your primary OS yet, and VirtualBox will allow you to install and re-install without jeopardizing your primary host OS. You can also download pre-build virtual machines for Virtualbox from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/community/developer-vm/index.html which might have everything you need installed and ready to use.

Oracle Linux kernel appear as UEK ?
I just go to edelivery and found theses download :
    1) Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 4 for x86_64 (64 Bit)     V37084-01     3.5G
    2) Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 4 Boot iso image for x86_64 (64 bit)     V37088-01     197M

    5) Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 4 source DVD 2     V37087-01     1.9G
If I build a server with the 1) what will be the result of a uname -a ?
What the purpose of the number 2 and 3 ?

what the diff betwenn OEL5, OEL6 EL5UEK, EL6UEK, i'm lost. There is no OEL, just OL. :) Oracle Linux 5 (OL5) and Oracle Linux 6 (OL6) are completely different major versions of Oracle Linux. Each of those has two kernels, the Red Hat Compatible Kernel (RHCK) or the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK).
Oracle Linux kernel appear as UEK ?Yes.
I just go to edelivery and found theses download :
    1) Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 4 for x86_64 (64 Bit)     V37084-01     3.5GThis is the complete install DVD, which includes both the RHCK and UEK as well as most of the packages available for OL6.
    2) Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 4 Boot iso image for x86_64 (64 bit)     V37088-01     197MThis is a small bootable image that uses the RHCK during install but only contains the installation program, but none of the packages. You need to have the contents of the ISO from (1) available somewhere on your network.
    3) Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 4 UEK Boot ISO image for x86_64 (64 bit)     V37090-01     196MThis is a small bootable image that uses the UEK Release 2 kernel during install but only contains the installation program, but none of the packages. You need to have the contents of the ISO from (1) available somewhere on your network. This image also has btrfs support during installation, something that (1) and (2) do not.
If I build a server with the 1) what will be the result of a uname -a ?The default kernel is 2.6.39-400.17.1.el6uek, but it will also install the RHCK 2.6.32-358.el6.

  • Re: Oracle Linux versioning

    Dear replier
can you please also give details for option 4 & 5
    1) Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 4 for x86_64 (64 Bit)     V37084-01     3.5G
    2) Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 4 Boot iso image for x86_64 (64 bit)     V37088-01     197M
    3) Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 4 UEK Boot ISO image for x86_64 (64 bit)     V37090-01     196M
    4) Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 4 source DVD 1     V37086-01     3.1G
    5) Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 4 source DVD 2     V37087-01     1.9G
I see DVD1 & DVD2 thought this will be having the complete installation but after i download and write these ISO files to DVD's
    DVD is not bootable.
which one to use for download and install.

Oracle Linux is licensed under GPL and requires that the source code is freely available. The source DVD's contain the source code packages and not the OS installation media. All you need to start up and install Oracle Linux on your computer from DVD in your example is number 1.

  • Install 11gR2 on Linux 6 with ASM for production environment ?

    Hi Experts
Plz I hope someone could help me, I am planning to Install Oracle 11g R2(11.2.0.3)
on Oracle Linux 6 with ASM for a production environment.
My doubt is: Is it a stable combination ? someone has experience working with this version ? is there some Oracle documents to support this implementation on Production ?
I have been installing and working with 11g R2 on Oracle Linux 5 (5.7,5.8) with ASM for some time and I didn’t have problems, it’s very stable combination
My situation is this: Our client insist on use Oracle Linux 6 on a new Oracle implementation, even when we told her Oracle Linux 5 its Very stable, so that’s why I am asking for some advice, because it’s a production environment 7x24.
Thank you for your time and advice

  • Oracle Linux 6.4 Bootable disk?

Hello, I am about to download Oracle Linux 6.4 and install it on a 32 bit computer.
How can I make a bootable disk so when I reboot this computer it goes straight into the install process?
Do I download Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 4 for x86 (32 Bit) and then download Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 4 Boot iso image for x86 (32 bit)?
Do i burn the content of the Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 4 Boot iso image for x86 (32 bit) on the same disk as the  Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 4 for x86 (32 Bit)?
Can someone please tell me how to do this?

Installing a 32-bit OS on reasonable and recent hardware does not make sense. It will only limit your addressable memory and disk space for no good reason.
Anyway, you need to download the binary software distribution image, which is about 2 - 4 GB. You do not need the boot or source media.
Before burning the DVD, make sure to verify the checksum of the downloaded ISO image. It is not unlikely that the download is corrupted and won't work properly.
You can find the checksum value when clicking the View Digest button on the E-Delivery software download web page.
Under Microsoft Windows, see the following knowledgebase article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841290
Under Linux and Mac OS X, enter the following at the system command prompt (Terminal):
    openssl sha1 name.iso
    The checksum must match!
To burn the iso image to DVD:

For information using Apple Mac OS X and older versions of MS Windows:
    http://www.wikihow.com/Burn-ISO-Files-to-DVD
And last not least, remember to set the media startup priorities of you computer BIOS accordingly: Floppy, DVD, Harddrive, Network.

  • Oracle Linux 6.2 with RH compatible kernel .versus. Red Hat Linux 6.2 diff?

    Hello everyone
    * assume that I booted Oracle Linux 6.2 with a Red Hat Compatible Kernel - as opposed to booting the Oracle Linus 6.2 with UEK R1 or UEK R2 kernels *
I am interested in any feature differences between the two OS relating to: functionality, reliability, performance, stability and tools.
The reason I ask is that my employer is trying to figure out if OL 6.2 with a RH compatible kernel is identical to the RHEL 6.2 OS, if we excluded the Oracle UEK and Oracle clustering extra functionality.
This OS will not be used to run Oracle 11g R2 database, this is to be used for any other Linux based non-database applications (such has running Java, JDBC, Apache, C/C++, etc).
    many thanks
    Yuri

    yurib wrote:
So now I can tell them to use Oracle Linux 6.x with a RH compatible kernel for all those non-DB systems and use OL 6.x with UEK for Oracle 11g database.
And I remember there was (still is?) a third kernel, which does not contain new features or performance enhancements, but only bug fixes for the RH compatible kernel.
I am not sure if you are going to need it, but it can be very useful in some cases. For example, if there is a bug in the RH kernel, and you don't want to run the UEK line as you want to stick to 100% strict RHEL compatibility, then Oracle can put the fix into this 3rd bug-fix only RH compatible kernel series.
(For me, I've set up dual-boot UEK & standard RHEL kernels on my machines and never have never encountered issues or bugs.)

  • Dashboard Console not working - opesntack on Oracle Linux 6.6

I have installed openstack using the instructions at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/openstack/linux/documentation/oracle-openstack-user-guide-2296176.pdf
I have a Oracle Linux 6.6 as the controller and two nodes of Oracle VM 3.3.2 as compute nodes. I managed to get an instance up and running but not sure how to connect to those instances. When I navigate to the console tab of the instance vnc connects successfully the be screen is blank and I think its not accepting any keyboard inputs as well.
How do I get the console to work from the dashboard (or connect via a vnc viewer)? Alternately I have used DHCP in the instance and know the private IP of the instance (192.168.1.100), how do I ssh to the instance?
    Amish.

    Hi Amish,
I saw your comment in other thread and I'll try to answer your questions in the best way I can - but this is huge topic. Please keep in mind that I'm also newbie in this area too and I've encountered many problems getting basic OpenStack installation working, like you. Some of them are still not solved for me either. I also did not get any help here
Networking in OpenStack is IMO difficult to understand, especially for people like me who are accustom with traditional approach. So this is how I understand it now:
Networking can be purely software driven and in this case it is carried out by openvswitch (http://openvswitch.org - better get accustom with it if you are not yet). Simple linux bridge - utilized by Oracle VM - is not used by OpenStack. Also there can be hardware plugins which can move some of network features to hardware - but I have no experience in this area.
There are two types of networks you can create in OpenStack: provider and tenant one:
Provider networks (also called flat networks) are equivalent of what you set in Oracle VM Manager and in typical (old fashioned) IT world. These are networks which in OpenStack are defined by cloud administrator (You) and bound to existing physical network which are already set by network administrator. For example you have couple of ports on your servers connected to LAN switches, some of them are in access mode some are trunks of specific VLANs. Also routers and other network services are managed outside of your cloud.
You need to define these networks in OpenStack before any user can connect their VMs to them. The most important part is that can do this from the GUI .
On the other hand there are so called: tenant networks. These are networks which are under cloud user administration. These are like cloud private networks (if you know Ops Center or Exalogic there is similar notion there) - which are created on-demand by your users. You as cloud administrator only create some limits (quotas) regarding how many such networks can be created by user. But obviously you - as cloud administrator - also need to define mechanisms which allow such networks be created on demand. This also has to be done from command line by editing some files - before users can create tenant networks.
The mechanism I'm talking about can be: VLAN, VxLAN, GRE.
First one is the only one currently supported by Oracle and it is quite simple: you, in cooperation with your network administrator reserve range (or set) of traditional VLANs and configure them on network switches where your servers are connected (I mean server ports which you dedicate for tenant networks - not all because you need other network for management, etc). Then you define this set in some OpenStack files to let it manage them on its own. For example: you have got 20 VLANs from network department for exclusive use for your cloud. Nobody knows what each VLAN will be used for yet. This will be allocated by cloud users on-demand. Openstack will just allocate VLAN upon user request and will not allow other users to create their private networks on the same VLAN.
Better approach is to use VxLAN which is tunneling mechanism. You don't need pool of VLANs in this case but you just set tunneling rules and then OpenStack creates private networks using secure tunnels over L3 network which you define first. VxLAN is standard, you can read about it and it is used by OpenStack for Solaris. Unfortunately this did not work for me and Release Notes from Oracle OpenStack for Linux says that it is not supported yet.
There is also GRE - which is also tunneling and is similar to VxLAN - but it did not work for me either.
Where it is all configured? Basic setup is created by packstack using CONFIG_NEUTRON_OVS_* variables. However I used packstack only for installation and then I modified configuration files on all nodes. The most important file where configuration is kept is: /etc/neutron/plugin.ini. In this files you set framework on which provider and tenant networks are build. The most important section is [OVS], for example:
    [OVS]
    enant_network_type=vlan
    enable_tunneling=false
    integration_bridge=br-int
    bridge_mappings=physnet1:br-eth3
    network_vlan_ranges=physnet1:2032:2032,physnet1:3010:3020
This example is from compute node. It says: I have one physical network: physnet1 which is supported by virtual switch called br-eth3. You need to create this virtual switch on your own! OpenStack networking deamons (Neutron) do not create virtual switches - they only reconfigure them if needed. Physical network is just name which you can use later on if you setup provider network.
Also, in the example you tell OpenStack that you have 11 VLANs available on physnet1 network. Similar configuration has to be done on controller node (but it is only because in simple topology your controller is also network node)
Then I dedicated first VLAN: 2032 for provider network. This was accomplished by command issued on controller node.
    # neutron net-create --router:external=true --provider:network_type=vlan  --provider:physical_network=physnet1 --provider:segmentation_id=2032 labnet
From that moment this network (called "labnet") should appear in the GUI and you can connect VMs to it. Users might also do this if you mark it as "shared".
Also users should be able to create their private networks and this will allocate VLANs from 3010 to 3020 - so there can be only 10 private networks created totally in your cloud now.
Of course this is example and you can build completely different setup. You can use different ports for provider networks and for tenants one. You do not need VLANs for provider networks and theoretically for tenant too - but you would have to have plenty of ports for this. If you manage to get VxLAN working - then please share your experience here.
I strongly recommend reading following information sources (Oracle does  not provide this details in their documentation):
    OpenStack Docs: Current
https://developer.rackspace.com/blog/neutron-networking-the-building-blocks-of-an-openstack-cloud/  there are more blog entries (followups) on this topic - look for them using keyword "neutron"
    https://www.rdoproject.org/forum/discussion/875/does-rdo-support-flat-network-type-/p1
    As for blank VM console:
I've also had this problem when I used Cirros VM images. However when I imported the template I use on my Oracle VM - then console was working correctly. I think this is more connected with VM configuration then OpenStack. AFAIK you can connect to console directly using vnc client - at least you can configure Nova in that way that it allows external VNC connections.

    Michal

  • Configurator Hangs in Oracle Linux

I'm trying to simply install and configure Essbase Server (11.1.2.2) in a Linux environment.
I thought Oracle Linux was compatible, but I cannot for the life of me get the configurator to do anything in Oracle Linux.
I've tried installing and configuring in version 6.4 and 5.9.
This works fine in RedHat, but I don't have a RedHat subscription to continue using RedHat 5.
What happens to the configurator is it'll get to the point of trying to configure Hyperion Foundation, but nothing happens.
No percentage, no progress bar, no status, nothing, it just hangs. It won't even create the epmsystem directory until I hit cancel.
It also hangs if I try ./configtool.sh -console

Unfortunately no, but I did figure out what was wrong.
Hyperion wasn't resolving the hostname properly.
I discovered this by using the epmsystem-hostname utility in /Oracle/Middleware/EPMSystem11R1/common/config/11.1.2.0
It was coming back with an error that it couldn't resolve the InetAddress
So I had to add the server's ip address and name to /etc/hosts, and after doing that, epmsystem-hostname was able to resolve the name and the configurator finally ran properly.
And like I stated above, I could get the configurator to run, but it just wouldn't do any actual configuring on the screen after I selected the items to configure and clicked next.

  • Oracle Linux licencing.

    Hi all.
we already have license for oracle database , oracle apps R12
now we want our old server to be migrated from AIX to Linux
do we need to pay for extra license
in this case how oracle will charge on cpu based or user based.
"for oracle Linux 6.4 which hardware should be used for better performance
    like intel - {ibm, hp, dell}"
    Regards
    Kaleem.

    Hi Kaleem,
Are you asking about your OS licensing (Linux itself) or are you asking about the licensing for the database and apps?  If you're asking about Linux, others have already answered.
If you're asking about the database/apps licensing, Oracle will transfer your existing licenses (which could answer whether you get processor or named user licensing) but they calculate the license requirements differently for different processors so it's possibly not going to be a straight 1-for-1 swap.
Have a read through the licensing documents for each of the products you have to get an idea what you're looking at - then I'd advise that you speak to your account manager at Oracle.  I've found them to be very helpful in the past and it's better to get it "straight from the horses mouth" than guess and then find out during an audit in a few years that you've been paying for licenses you don't need.. or worse, that you've been running without enough licenses.
    Hope that helps.
    Joe
