Oracle Linux 6.2 Installation Issue

Basic Oracle Linux 6.2 installation problems.
There are two iso files supplied for the installation.
V29609-01.iso (install files)
V29610-01.iso (bootable disc)
I boot from V29610-01.iso and the setup files run fine.
I am then prompted to identify the location of the second disc.
I encountered a problem where my DVD drive door would not open to insert the second disc.
To work around this problem I created a partition on my hard disc to copy
the installation files for the second disc to.
I boot from windows 7 (my primary operating system) and copy the installation files from the disc
to the partition.
I reboot from V29610-01.iso.
When prompted to identify the location of the install disc/files on my hard drive
I selected the drive where I copied the files to and press <enter>
I receive a message that it cannot find the image disc there.
I shut down.
I boot from windows 7 and this time copy the actual disc image
V29609-01.iso there instead
I reboot from V29610-01.iso and repeat the same procedure.
It still can't locate the disc image.
(I noticed the boot disc always defaults to the following structure in its displayed path \image\image.img
for the image file that it is trying to locate)
I shutdown.
I boot from windows 7 and this time create a directory called image and
rename V29609-01.iso to image.img and copy it to the image directory. Still no luck.
Why can't it locate the disc image?
Thankyou

@ O.P.,
What are you actually trying to accomplish? Replacing your Windows OS with dual boot Linux? In the later case I recommend you to use VirtualBox and forget about the old-fashioned and obsolete dual boot. Of course your system must not be older than 7 years with a x86_64 CPU and VT-x or AMD-d option. Why do you want to install a 32-bit OS?
Anyway, the V29609-01.iso install DVD is bootable. You will need to burn the .iso disk image doing a raw disk copy, but not the content of the mounted .iso image or you will loose the bootloader. There is plenty of information in Google searching for "burn iso image". If you use Virtualbox you can boot right of the disk image file without burning a DVD.

The installation guide available at https://linux.oracle.com/documentation/ may require some updating. Last time I checked, chapter 16.16.5. Recommended Partitioning Scheme, did not include the swap space required for hibernation mode.
    It is mentioned here:
    https://access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Installation_Guide/s2-diskpartrecommend-x86.html
Swap space size recommendations issued for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.0, 6.1, and 6.2 differed from the current recommendations, which were first issued with the release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3 in June 2012 and did not account for hibernation space.

  • Oracle Linux 6 u3 Installation via FTP

There is a need to install OS (Oracle Linux 6.3) via FTP. The installation process started fine, but after I'd finished with partitions layout and hit "next" on the window displaying "boot loader operating system list", error appeared.
the error: "Unable to read package metadata from repository. This maybe due to missing repodata directory. Cannot retrieve repository metadata(repomd.xml) for repository".
Ftp shared folder is OS iso file itself.

What you are trying to accomplish is creating a local mirror of the software distribution. If you can't download from a mirror and you have the install DVD, copy the complete content and structure to a locally hosted HTTP or FTP directory.
As already mentioned, you need to specify the path to the root of the installation from where you can browse the "repodata" and "server" directory.
You can see what the installation is looking for by opening the repodata directory and analyzing "repomod.xml". This will show you the relative path and filename including the primary.sqlite.bz2 file.
Make sure all your files and directories in the installation root have world read and execute privileges (chmod -R 755 /install dir) and make sure your ftp server is setup accordingly providing the right FTP_HOME and permissions. Also, what is your FTP server, does it support Unix filenames or translate them?
You can probably try another machine use FTP to connect to the installation source and see if you can navigate inside the directories and get the files.

Edited by: 921562 on Mar 24, 2012 3:35 AMThis has nothing to do with Oracle. Do you have an understanding of how URL's are constructed? The leading characters, delimited by the colon (':') specify http protocol. The string between the first colon and the next (if exists) specifies the fully qualified name of the host, or the IP addess of the host. Take a look at what you have there: //http//127.0.0.1" I really don't think your host name is "//http//127.0.0.1". More like '//127.0.0.1"

  • Oracle Linux and Automatic Installation of Oracle Related Packages

    G'day,
I recently decided to check out Oracle's Unbreakable Linux as I am/was thinking of switching to it for all my company's database deployments. What originally attracted me to Oracle Linux was that I though there would have been a kickstart, package or in the GUI install, a check box to install all of Oracle's dependencies.
When I installed it first, I manually selected a bunch of relevant packages, then installed any missing packages manually via a local YUM repository that I had made. Alas however, Oracle did not install correctly. So, I reinstalled, this time as a full install. Oracle then worked like a charm.
I also noticed, when editing /etc/sysctl.conf and /etc/securetty/limits.conf that these files had basically all ready been configured.
So, my question is, as I have had no luck using the search functionality here, is anyone aware of a kickstart argument, or an Oracle package that will install and in turn by way of dependencies, install all the necessary Oracle bits and pieces? Ideally, I would like to do this by way of kickstart as to automate as much of the process as possible.
If I can do this, then with some further testing, I will make the switch to Oracle's Linux for our Oracle deployments.
    Cheers,
    Conor

Yes, there is a great package called oracle-validated that is available that will pre-configured Oracle Enterprise Linux for installation using the Oracle Universal Installer. It ensures that things like sysctl.conf are all correct.
It should be available in the base download, so you can test it out. :)

  • Oracle Linux 6.4 installs, runs, and manual shutdown OK ...  but restarts itself after 10 minutes or so

    Hi Guys
Successfully installed Oracle Linux 6.4 operating system , which subsequently runs as expected.
When Oracle Linux 6.4 is shutdown using  standard GUI  system/shutdown ,
it does a clean shutdown and power-off as expected  ....
UNTIL some 10 minutes or so later , when Oracle Linux 6.4 reboots all by itself from a fully powered-down state.
Likewise when Oracle Linux 6.4 is shutdown using  standard command line " shutdown -h now" ,
it does a clean shutdown and power-off as expected  ....
UNTIL some 10 minutes or so later , when Oracle Linux 6.4 reboots all by itself from a fully powered-down state.
Clearly it is NOT desirable to have the operating system able  restart of it's own accord.
A manual shutdown is typically  done for good reason , and the server should remain shutdown.
The previous version, ie Oracle Linux 6.3 did not exhibit this behavior.
When Oracle Linux 6.3 was shutdown, it stayed shutdown
    Question
    ======
Does anyone know how to STOP Oracle Linux 6.4 from restarting itself after a successful shutdown ?
    Thanks

Does anyone know how to STOP Oracle Linux 6.4 from restarting itself after a successful shutdown ?
Assuming your network interface is eth0, execute "$ ethtool eth0", like below, and indicate what you get for the lines "Supports Wake-on" and "Wake-on.
    lx04:/root $ ethtool eth0
    Settings for eth0:
            Supported ports: [ TP ]
            Supported link modes:   10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
                                    100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
                                    1000baseT/Full
            Supported pause frame use: No
            Supports auto-negotiation: Yes
            Advertised link modes:  Not reported
            Advertised pause frame use: No
            Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
            Speed: 1000Mb/s
            Duplex: Full
            Port: Twisted Pair
            PHYAD: 0
            Transceiver: internal
            Auto-negotiation: on
            MDI-X: Unknown
            Supports Wake-on: pg
            Wake-on: d
            Current message level: 0x0000003f (63)
drv probe link timer ifdown ifup
            Link detected: yes
Then check in your BIOS (usually under APM) for any enabled power-on settings associated with PCI or PCIe bus (your NIC will use one or the other).

  • Oracle 8.1.6 Installation Issues

I've tried to install Oracle 8.1.6 many times with no success. Installing the "Typical" configuration works fine until it is 90% done with creating the starter database. Then, I will get an, "end of file on communication channel" error message. The database creation stops at that point. If I try to create the database manually using SVRMGRL, I get a, "TNS:protocol adapter error" message. Attempts at reconfiguring the tnsnames, listener, or password files have failed.
    The install platform:
    - Windows NT 4.0 (with service pack 5)
(it may have an option pack as well)
    - Intel Celeron 500 mhz
    - 13 gb hard drive
    - 256 mb ram

TCP/IP seems to be functioning properly considering that Oracle 8.0.5 will install and run perfectly.
Oracle 8.1.6 doesn't seem to have a problem writing to the registry or creating the services.
It is possible that the issue has to do with the NT installation itself because a co-worker was able to get it running on the same platform after a clean image was loaded.

  • Oracle Warehouse Builder 10g installation issues

    Hi All,
I have downloaded the OWB 10g, from the site. I have Oracle 10g (Release 2) database server installed on the machine.
When I start installing Oracle Warehouse Builder 10g, it just does the client installation and I am not able to find out were should I search for the OWB server installation?
Even I have checked by installing the same but I just have Repository Assistant , Design Center and Repository Browser available on the machine. I could not find the Runtime Assistant & Control Center to work on?
Can somebody help me out with these issues?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Anand

    Hi...
There is an explanations..from the FAQ itself :
How do I download and install Warehouse Builder Client versus Warehouse Builder Server?
Warehouse Builder is a single install image that contains both Client and Server components, which are installed at the same time as part of the installation process. If the deployment target database is on the same machine as Warehouse Builder Client UI, there is one single installation process. If the deployment target database is on a separate machine, the install process has to be run twice, repeating the exact same install process on the client machine (to run the Warehouse Builder Design client) and the deployment target machine. Normally when installing the repository, either locally or remotely, the OWB software needs to be already present on the machine. However, it is possible to skip or defer the step of installing on the target deployment machine. This is referred to as a “Remote Target Configuration”. More information on this can be found in the Installation Guide, Chapter 2, “Remote Target”.
    hope this helps...

  • Oracle 11g R2 Windows Installation issue

    Hey everybody,
i was trying to install Oracle 11g R2 on a Windows Server 2008 64-bit machine. During the installation i am getting an error message multiple times (about 20 times) where it says it cannot find certain files like C:\app\ora11g\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\oc4j\j2ee\oc4j_applications\WFMLRSVCApp.ear and some other files too. If i click move on in the dialog box each time an error occurs the installation will succeed and finish successfully.
What am I doing wrong, do I have to change anything before installation starts?
I am using the correct 64-bit installation files i downloaded from the Oracle homepage...

    Hi Hans,
know I found where it contains the information about the downloads. It only shows up when you click on the "See All", but it won´t show up if you directly download via the Disk 1 or Disk 2 link on the download page. Good point. I never would have believed noobs would stop at that page and not be curious about what other stuff might be available under 'See All'. Stuff like the 'De-install' package.
Since you didn't do it, I posted a comment/suggestion in the Download forum to put an additional note on the top 11gR2 download page.
What brings up more confusion is when you click on the "See All" button next to the download for the 32-bit Version of 11g R2 for Windows an error comes up. Worked for me.
You reported your error ... where?
So I think Oracle needs to improve its homepage a lot...If you have ideas there is a forum "Forum Home » Technology Network Community » Community Feedback and Suggestions" in which you you are welcome to submit comments.

download the 'glibc-2.3.4-2.41' rpm and apply it and then start installing..You should be really carful when replacing things like the glibc. If he has not the required version then me is
probably using a not certified operating system. All certified operating system already ship with the required versions.
I am not saying upgrading the glibc wont work... but you might end up with inconsistent system.

Hi i found ur blog very useful but i just m not understanding how to set the environment variable i.e
    Optional Steps Before Installing
*1. You may want to remove or modify the following environment variables TNS_NAMES and ORACLE_HOME. Your machine may be configured for an earlier version of Oracle. This can be done by navigating to Start --> Control Panel --> System --> Advanced --> Environment Variables.*
In this case i do not hve any previous versions of Oracle so i did not find these variables .
    Installing Oracle 10g
    *1. Create an environment variable called ORACLE_HOSTNAME = mymachine.domain*
*2. Modify your hosts file (C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) and add an entry that matches the value of the ORACLE_HOSTNAME. For example, my host files looks like:*
    *127.0.0.1 localhost*
    *192.168.10.1 mymachine.mydomain.com mymachine*
Here i installed the Loopback Adapter exactly the way u mentioned and was useful but then what would be the value in my case mymachine.domain and should this be the value set in the mymachine.mydomain value .when i created the loopback adapter i used exactly the same ip that u mentioned along with the subnet mask and it worked for me .so will my ORACLE_HOSTNAME be = 192.168 ???
i still havent understood the SID value already exists error???pls explain in 2 parts
