ThanksThe page shows the exam is in beta ... (up until at least 15th december according to my estimate) ... and that can extend (or it could even exceptionally reduce). Three months after beta ends it goes to production .... and the exam price shoots up.
Oracle also has a couple of other linux exams ... but the 1z0-403 is rhel 4 based and is becoming out of touch through obselesence. 1z0-402 is relevant but probably not vastly recognised.
IMHO from the exam topics this exam appears to be targetted at ensuring Oracle Partners Staff have demonstrated some understanding of how to assist in setting up OEL and can apply the support Procedures Oracle have in place for business customers. ( Oracle Partners are awarded points for staff having such exam credits; and that can be important in maintaining their partnership level status ... silver, diamond ...... etc).
Some will find other linux certification offerings more relevant for them ... LPIC/COMPCIA/ubuntu/RHEL ....
Any thank you for hinting this exam existed to me .... i had not heard about it and beta's do not stay at the cheap beta price for long. If I have the time (and I dont really) I'd have a shot at it myself in beta.

  • Q: Oracle Linux 5 Hardisk Size Required?

What is the hard disk size required to install Oracle Linux 5 in Dell Intel Server? Any information provided will be very much appreciated.

The answer will depend on your installed RAM. It could be the the size of your installed RAM plus 5 GB for the OS.
Since Oracle Linux is actually a clone of Red Hat, you can check the Red Hat documentation online. The following link should answer your questions:
    http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/5/html/Installation_Guide/s2-diskpartrecommend-x86.html
or check the installation guide at: https://linux.oracle.com/documentation/
For other limits and min. requirements:
    http://www.redhat.com/rhel/compare/
A lot of info is also at http://linux.oracle.com
Since you are using DELL you might want to check for hardware compatibility at http://content.dell.com/us/en/enterprise/d/operating-systems/redhatalliance.aspx and verify your current firmware and install required drivers for RHEL/Oracle Linux if necessary.

  • Oracle Linux Patching/Updates Impact on Oracle Database

I have several questions regarding Oracle Linux patching and its impact on Oracle Database.
    3 node Cluster
Operating System: Oracle Linux Release 5 update 2
    Kernel: 2.6.18-92.1.22.0.1.el5 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Grid Infrastructure: Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.2)
Database: Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Enterprise Edition (11.2.0.2) with RAC option
ASM with ASMLib is being used for Data and FRA.
*1)* Given your at Oracle Linux Release 5 update 2, will applying only Security Patches require any changes to ASMLib, Oracle Grid Infrastructure and/or Oracle Database (software binaries, configuration etc.)?
*2)* Given your at Oracle Linux Release 5 update 2, will applying Bug Fixes and Security Patches to Oracle Linux 5 update 2 require any changes to ASMLib, Oracle Grid Infrastructure and/or Oracle Database (software binaries, configuration etc.)?
*3)* Given your updating from Oracle Linux Release 5 update 2 to Oracle Linux Release 5 update 8, will this require any changes to ASMLib, Oracle Grid Infrastructure and/or Oracle Database (software binaries, configuration etc.)?
I would most whole heartedly appreciate if someone could answer the specific questions asked, inline if possible. Our System Administrator is preparing to perform some patching and as the DBA I'd like to be certain what changes I need to prepare for? I also have a single instance database setup with Oracle Restart. I don't know if this impacts the answers above.
    Thanks in advance.

How do you plan to apply Oracle Linux security patches? As far as I'm aware the yum security plug-in does not work with the Oracle public yum repository and there is no really feasible way to automate and determine security related patches only, unless you setup Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control (11g) or Cloud (12c)  and have a subscription to Oracle ULN.
If you upgrade your Oracle Linux to the latest available version using the public yum repository, all patches, including errata will be applied. You cannot apply patches and stay on a specific release version unless you have a subscription and appropriate yum repository access.
As far as I'm aware there are no changes required to your Oracle database or ASM setup and configuration when updating the OS, provided the version of the Oracle database is supported for the specific OS version (ASM features like ADVM/ACFS are kernel version depending). Upgrading from one major release to another, such as upgrading Oracle Linux 5 to Oracle Linux 6 is not supported and will require upgrading the Oracle Database to 11.2.0.3. You can check the Oracle database certification matrix to determine which Oracle database release version is required for which OS version http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/relnotes.112/e23558/toc.htm
The relinking of Oracle Database binaries is a common practice when updating the OS. I do not think it is necessary under Linux. Oracle binaries are typically standalone applications, or use Oracle provided libraries, or in some cases use OS shared libraries, which does not require relinking of Oracle binaries. Upgrading the Oracle database software of course requires relinking.

  • Hardware requirements to install Oracle Linux 5.8

I wish to inatall Oracle Linux as the parent OS in my Laptop. Could you please share the minimum hardware configuration required for smooth functioning. You will need to keep in mind that Oracle Linux is better suited to enterprise server types of hardware and not for generic laptop/desktop usage. Much of your hardware may just not work. For example, enterprise servers don't have wireless networking, fancy graphics, USB3.0, Bluetooth, touchscreens, and more.
After reading the link that was provided by Srini, I suggest you download and install a copy of VirtualBox and install it. Then you can experiment with your OL5.8 and most any other OS you dream of without mucking up your current functional OS.

  • Fusion middleware system requirements for oracle Linux 7

    Hello,
I'm currently studying document E54272-01 (Oracle® Fusion Middleware System Requirements and Specifications
12c (12.1.3) September 2014) in order to install Fusion Middleware 12c products on a Oracle Linux 7 server.
The "Linux Operating System Requirements" section doesn't include Oracle Linux 7 system requirements, does it mean Fusion Middleware 12c products are not yet certified for OL7?
PS : I'm unable to find a pdf version of E54272-01 document, if anybody has the URL, I'll appreciate.
    Daniel

    Daniel,
The compatibility matrix for 12.1.3 can be found here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/fusion-middleware/documentation/fmw-1213certmatrix-2226694.xls
As you will see, for now only Oracle Linux 5 and 6 are compatible.

  • Oracle Linux 5.7 kernel panic when installing R12

    Hi Everyone,
I've a small issue which I like to share and hopefully you are able to help solving it. I've downloaded and installed VMware Player 4 and Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.7 (32 bit) as a guest Virtual Machine on my Window 7 machine. I've also downloaded and extracted all the required zip files and folders for eBusiness released 12 (Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.1 Media Pack for Linux x86 [32bit]) from the eDelivery web site. Then, I shared a Windows folder (containing those extracted folders of the R12 eBusiness files and folders) and mount it in the Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.7 under '/tmp/r12installfiles/'.
I ran the ./rapidwiz and the all the tests were OK and then I confirm installing R12 by hitting the 'Next' button. But for several times now, whenever it passes Step 2 when I navigate to the VM guest (because I was doing something on the main host - Window 7), the Oracle Linux OS was always blinking with 'Cap Locks' and 'Scroll Lock' keys and I believe it must have been linux kernel panic. And I could not proceed any further. I had this problem three times, whether I was installing the VISION database or the Fresh database, I still have the same error. It was very time consuming and frustrating. Does anyone have this problem?
Were there any steps that I've missed? Like patching the Linux OS before installing R12 or other steps or processes. Please provide the appropriate steps and instructions as well as the links where I could download them. Thank you for your assistance.
    Regards,
    John

    John,
Thank you for your reply, can you direct me the link for the Oracle E-Business Suite Installation and Upgrade Notes Release 12 (12.1.1) for Linux x86 [ID 761564.1]) document, please? Thank you.You can get it from MOS website -- Go to https://support.oracle.com and type your username/password then search for "761564.1" and you should get the doc.

So this leads me to my next question, when I use nslookup to search the domain on the DNS server for the host, it resolves successfully. BUT, when I run nslookup against the IP address
it cannot find it in DNS. Would this be the root cause of why my installation keeps failing? I have verified checksums and software is fine. I am still missing a couple RPMs but do not believe this is what causing the install to fail yet in light of the network connection errors that Rapidwiz keeps throwing at me.All network files/settings can be found in (Oracle E-Business Suite Installation and Upgrade Notes Release 12 (12.1.1) for Linux x86-64 [ID 761566.1]).

  • Diff between oracle linux and oracle enterprise linux?

    hi all,
i am new to this flavor of Linux. I know oracle linux has red hat source, but i am confused about the difference betweek oracle linux which comes in versions 4 (upto update 8) and 5 (latest update being 5).
i need to install oracle enterprise linux at a client place, so i gota know the difference.
Should i be installing oracle Linux first and then run the rpm of "Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel"? or is the "Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel" only for customers who require this kernal on oracle linux update 5 x86_64?
    thanks

    waldorfm wrote:
From what I understand Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) is a rebranded version of Red hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
Oracle Linux (OL) is OEL plus Oracle optimization and custom, newer kernel. OL with Oracle "Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel" is available as x86_64 only and was introduced based on OEL or RHEL 5.5.
You can install OEL 5.4 and easily upgrade to OEL 5.5, PMFJI, but can you point me to docs on how to make that upgrade? The timing of this msg on the forum was exquisite, as I started looking at that just today. I have an OEL 5.4 installation and would much rather upgrade to 5.5 than to have to rebuild from scratch.
I did a yum install kernel with the 5.5 version of the public-yum-el5.repo. That went without a hitch and now reports "2.6.32-100.0.19.el5 #1" where I was 2.6.18-164.el5, but I also see
    [root@myserver ~]# uname -a
    Linux myserver 2.6.32-100.0.19.el5 #1 SMP Fri Sep 17 17:51:41 EDT 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    [root@myserver ~]# cat /etc/enterprise-release
Enterprise Linux Enterprise Linux Server release 5.4 (Carthage)
    [root@myserver ~]# cat /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.4 (Tikanga)Bottom line is that I am charged with updating the kernel to a 2.6 version newer than 19 Sep, or applying a patch for the compat_alloc_user_space() function, and am not sure exactly how to proceed from here.
if you like or start to install from version 5.5, and then install OL 5.5 by downloading the Oracle public yum repository and follow the instructions at http://public-yum.oracle.com

VNC certainly has it's beauty and advantages. I was under the impression though that the OP is trying to run OUI on a local server console that is runnig a graphical desktop. If that wasn't the case, VNC was certainly a preferable option.I have not done a local GUI console installation of Oracle in years. In fact, I'm known to start foaming at the mouth when discovering a server running X on the console, disabling it interactively, preventing initlevel 5 from ever loading X again, and leave comments of my disgust in inittab. ;-)
If I'm not mistaken then the vncserver does not need to have the X server running since the necessary support is built-in. The installation of X libraries is probably still required, but I'm not sure.It needs a X display manager. And xterm. twm does fine as display manager. Small and minimalistic. Not the greatest of ideas loading an entire Gnome desktop in VNC.
Btw, Apple Mac OS X provides seamless X11 support and uses VNC for screen sharing and even for installing a system remotely. If you use Apple Mac to access a remote Linux system, using ssh with X forwarding is very convenient as it works right out of the box without having to configure the remote Linux server.Nice. OS/X has come a long way the last few years. I recall a time when they pretended there was no "stinking" command line. :-)

              title Oracle Linux Server (2.6.18-238.0.0.0.1.el5xen)
              root (hd0,0)
             kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-238.0.0.0.1.el5xen ro root=LABEL=/ numa=off
             initrd /initrd-2.6.18-238.0.0.0.1.el5xen.img
The main driver for this question is I am trying to determine if these rpms are accessed in any way when the UEK Release 1 is in use. If so, then I will need
to heed to the Security Scan results against the xen kernel version  otherwise I will ignore them and move forward.

The following is from the OL 6.5 release notes:
    https://oss.oracle.com/el5/docs/RELEASE-NOTES-U6-en.html
Hardware virtualized guest with kernel-uek-2.6.32-100.35.1.el5uek and higher
Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel version kernel-uek-2.6.32-100.35.1 adds support for paravirtualized drivers in a harware virtualized guest on Oracle VM. Starting this kernel version hardware virtualized guests which are not configured to use paravirtualized drivers will need an additional kernel boot parameter "xen_emul_unplug=never" in /etc/grub.conf:
    kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.32-100.35.1.el5uek ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00  xen_emul_unplug=never
With kernel-uek-2.6.32-100.35.1 and higher, the default is to present only paravirtualized drivers when running in a hardware virtualized guest on Oracle VM. Adding this kernel boot parameter makes the kernel also present the emulated drivers as it did before (e.g. the 8139cp network driver may no longer load if this parameter is not set).
Older version of Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel do not have support for hardware virtualized guest that uses paravirtualized drivers (PVHVM).

  • Installing oracle 10g on Oracle linux?

    hi,
I may have an opportunity to work with data on an oracle server in a few months, so I would like to somehow prapare myself to work in this environment. I downloaded and installed the Oracle Linux and then downloaded and tried to install oracle 11g database but I failed (there were some dependencies not satisfied I reckon). Now, can you tell me if without paying the $99 for the support is it possible to read some documents on how to install the oracle base (10g will do).
Another issue is that I can't even upgrade the firefox (have downloaded ver. 2 tar.gz and am wondering how to replace the 1.5 that came out of the box?
    best regards

Another issue is that I can't even upgrade the firefox (have downloaded ver. 2 tar.gz and am wondering how to replace the 1.5 that came out of the box?You can uninstall existing version (note some packages might depend on firefox package, so it could be a problem) and you can use the version downloaded from Firefox website. You don't need to install anything as the downloaded version is binary.
You seems to be new in Linux enviroment. So at first learn first about this enviroment before you begin change this enviroment. OEL is clone of RedHat so RH documentation is appropriate source for you:
