Oracle® Database Installation Guide 11g Release 2 (11.2) for Linux
Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel for Linux 5 Update 5 (2.6.32) and above, available for x86-64 systems, contains several additional features and performance enhancements not available either with Oracle Linux or with other supported Linux distributions. This kernel can be installed on either Oracle Linux or Red Hat Enterprise Linux distributions. Before installing the Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel, you must have Oracle Linux 5 Update 5 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Update 5 installed on an x86-64 server.
Is this information correct? Perhaps the following was better:
Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) for Linux 5 Update 5 (2.6.32) and above, available for x86-64 systems, contains several additional features and performance enhancements not available prior to Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 update 5 or with other supported Linux distributions. This kernel can be installed on either Oracle Linux 5 Update 5 or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Update 5 installed on an x86-64 server. As of Oracle Linux 5 update 6, the Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel is the default system kernel. A 32-bit release of Oracle Linux including the Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel is available with Oracle Linux 5 update 7 and later.

  • Oracle BI EE Plus Install Documentation

    Folks,
    OBIEE Plus seems to have Siebel and Hyperion Components.We are looking for Install documentation and Software .Could not find it anywhere.
    Do we have to install Siebel and Hyperion separately and then do integration or there is any packaged product already available.
    Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello Thomas,
    I read this document and didn't find any changes related only to 10.1.3.3.3
    I thought that I would found something at the Oracle Business Intelligence New Features Guide Version 10.1.3.3.3 like the link that you sent explains, but in this document I got this information:
    "The 10.1.3.3.3 release of the Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition introduces no new features."

  • Can`t Reboot after Oracle Linux Rel.6 Installed

    Previously the Desktop PC had WINDOWS 7 and Debian Linux installed with GRUB controlling the dual boot between Debian and Windows 7. It worked fine.. no problems. Decided to go with Oracle Linux as I will be installing some Oracle products on this PC.
    Installed Oracle Linux over Debian. The Oracle Linux install completed successfully and requested a reboot. On reboot the process stops on the GRUB step showing...
    GRUB Loading.
    Welecome to GRUB!
    error: file not found.
    Entering rescue mode...
    grub_rescue
    Seems to be missing a file on the Linux side to initiate the dual boot sequence.
    1. Does Oracle Linux have GRUB available for dual boots.
    2. If not, then is there some tool available to control dual boots with Oracle Linux and Windows 7.

    Reran the entire Oracle Linux install and ensured the boot loader was put in the Master Boot Record. I selected 'Change Device' to confirm the Master Boot Record option was highlighted.
    Here are my partitions on disk 'sdb' :
    Disk
    Device Size (MB) Mount Point Type
    sdb
    sdb1 2000 / ext4
    sdb2 8000 swap
    sdb3 180780 ext3
    Rebooted system when the Oracle Iinux install finished - successfully... but once again encountered the following:
    GRUB Loading.
    Welecome to GRUB!
    error: no such device: 121d0490-81aa-4f10-a2fa-17ca257b27f4
    Entering rescue mode...
    grub_rescue
    Followed your instructions to fix the problem, and at the shell prompt # entered these commands :
    chroot /dev/sysimage
    grup-install /dev/sdb
    Message returned:
    Installation finished. No errors encountered
    This is the contents of the device map /boot/grub/device.map
    # This device map was generated by anaconda
    (hd0) /dev/sdb
    Rebooted system... same GRUB error message was displayed.
    What am I missing? Never had this problem with Debian !

  • Upgrade Lab with Oracle Linux 5.4 installed to Oracle Linux 6.3

    Dear Experts,
    I hope to upgrade a lab of 30 PC have got OEL 5.4 installed, to have OEL 6.3
    What is the fastest (automated) installation method to accomplish that.
    Best Regards
    Mahmoud Rabie

    I think you just need to press the tab key at the install options window (there is a 60 second countdown) and add ks=http://<server>/path/to/kickstart to the kernel parameter line.
    But why bother at all with the current upgrade strategy? Why not implementing common virtualization solutions, like free Oracle VM VirtualBox. Are your student PC's ancient or or not suitable? Why implement old fashioned system administration and deny yourself the huge benefit of virtualized systems. Virtualization like VirtualBox will give you efficient and painless features to easily manage system installations on your student systems, including the option to run multiple operating systems on a singly computer. You can easily restore your student systems to specific installation and configuration presets in seconds prior to every lab by using built-in snapshot restore technologies, as well as easily cloning and deploying your systems.

    My advice to you is, since you have established such a reputation on this board, on issues that you don't have any knowledge or don't feel comfortable about, please just keep quiet. I don't think your job is to answer every question that has been posted on this board. Recklessly, or worse, knowingly, providing a wrong answer is much worse than no answer at all. These are serious personal accusations. Are you trying to make some noise to create some visibility for yourself? Please don't steal any of my limelight! ;-)
    Personally, I don't particularly appreciiate many of your responses to some of the questions that I posted. To me, your responses are rude, idiotic (and insults to my intelligence)!Sorry, I have no idea what makes you so upset. Are you just making this up? What questions and answers are you taking about?
    Are you referring to this post: Ralink RT5390 Does Not Work on the UEK Kernel
    May I quote/remind you of your own posting:
    We installed OL6.3 and Ubuntu 12.04 on a new Asus X45A notebook. It has a Ralink RT5390 wireless card. With Ubuntu, both wifi and video work flawlessly. However, the wifi driver (from elrepo) does not work for the the uek kernel (2.6.39). While the wifi driver works when boot into the RHEL kernel (2.6.32), it created an "even bigger problem" in that the video starts at about 1/10 from the left edge of the screen.
    But again, please no one be fooled by my overly optimistic and simplistic comments*. The reality is, I am glad OL6 desktop works at all.
    * For example, I actually installed OL6 on 4 notebooks, one of them "does not work" because I couldn't dim the screen. I did not intend to lie, but subconsciously, I somewhat forgot that there was this failed case.
    So what are you really trying to tell us/me here?
    I think you have shot yourself in the foot here. I'm afraid the best I can offer to you is to remove my response if you remove your post.

  • How to install GCC and DKMS on Oracle Linux?

    Hello,
    I am a newbie to Oracle Linux. I installed Oracle Linux on a virtual machine using Oracle VirtualBox. Now I need to install the packages DKMS and GCC in order to share drives between the host and the ghost.
    Here is what is happening:
    # yum install dkms
    Setting up Install Process
    Setting up repositories
    No Repositories Available to Set Up
    Reading repository metadata in from local files
    Parsing paskage install arguments
    No Match for afgument: dkms
    Nothing to do
    Please, advice what to do.
    Thanks in advance.

    Here is what you need to install under Oracle Linux or Red Hat Enterprise Linux to install the VirtualBox Guest Additions:
    <pre>yum -y install gcc kernel-uek-devel-$(uname -r)</pre>
    The packages are available from the Oracle public yum repository as already mentioned, or on the installation DVD in the server directory.

  • Why Oracle Linux 5 cannot recover disk space after delete files ?

    Folks,
    Hello. When I create a Virtual Machine for Oracle Linux 5 to install EBS R12, I allocate 300GB to the VM. I download EBS R12 Source Files (45.7GB) and unzip the files (46GB). Total size of stage area directory(EBS_R12) is 91.7GB.
    Because some files are corrupted and cannot install, I move the folder EBS_R12 into trash but cannot empty trash. I move EBS_R12 from trash back to the directory. Then at root user, use command "rm -rf " to delete EBS_R12 completely.
    I shut down Oracle Linux 5 and restart it, 91.7GB disk space cannot recover.
    I download some other files into Oracle Linux files and then delete those files, but disk space cannot be recovered either.
    It seems that OEL5 virtual disk only can expand but cannot be reduced. The VM disk space is less than 200GB now and not enough to install EBS R12.
    Can any folks tell me how to make 91.7GB disk space and some more disk space come up ?

    Folks,
    Hello. Thanks a lot for replying.
    Host OS is Windows 7, Guest OS is Oracle Linux 5 on the top of VMPlayer 3. The VM of Oracle Linux 5 is created on the external USB drive and not on the local hard disk.
    There is a directory /tmp/VMwareDnd/376c7cae/EBS_R12 in Oracle Linux 5 file system. I copy/Paste the folder of EBS_R12 from Windows 7 into Oracle Linux 5. All of zip files and unzipped files are placed in the folder of EBS_R12.
    After EBS_R12 is deleted, the external USB drive(F:) doesn't come up 91.7GB disk space.
    My question is:
    Where to run "boot>linux rescue" command ?
    Does this command work correctly in the external USB drive ?

  • Oracle Linux 6.1 : No Internet Connection.

    I am not able to connect to the Internet with Oracle Linux 6.1.First,I had Oracle Linux 6.0 installed and running normally with normal Internet connection.I did an upgrade(upgrade option of the installer) and I ended up with No Internet connection.I thought that could be a problem with the option upgrade so I did a complete fresh install and NO LUCK I faced the same problem.The hint that can lead to the resolution of the problem is: When I had Internet connection the Gnome widget "green spinning wheel" was automatically turned on and searching for connection when I turned on my home router(as with other Gnome distros),and now I turn on my home router and nothing moves the "foreground/background computers" Gnome network widget stays the same No Connection.When I MANUALLY click on that widget and choose "System eth0" the "green spinning wheel" widget searching for connection appears and "CONNECTS" but in fact it is misleading because I still have no connection,I tested with Firefox for example.When I do ifconfig everything seems normal : interface etho with IP address 192.168.1.64(typical in home routers) gateway 192.168.1.254 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast adress 192.168.1.255 etc.,I did ifdown eth0 and immediately ifup eth0 but NO LUCK,so is this a dhcp that came with 6.1 problem or other known bug? anything that I can test/do?
    Thanks.

    I prefer using such a router as a bridge - it enables different PCs on that router to make separate PPPoE connections. E.g. one can connect using an Internet ISP account and another can connect to a private corporate network.
    To check whether the router makes a successful connection to the ISP, you should use the web browser sysadmin interface of the router. You can view the authentication details it needs to use, check the router logs and so on.
    From a Linux perspective, I do not see anything specifically interfering with that. The two basic issues that comes to mind is a Linux firewall (denying you access via that router), or a broken routing table.
    You can use the +iptables --list+ command to check whether there are firewall rules in place - or do a firewall shutdown using +/etc/init.d/iptables stop+.
    The routing table can be checked with the route command.
    You can also consider setting DHCP up on the router and using DHCP on your computers - that way the network interfaces on the client side is automatically configured and usually less can go wrong this way then having to manually (and correctly) configure the IP stack and interfaces on the client side.

  • Connecting Win95 - Oracle/Linux Server

    Hi,
    I recently purchased a 5 client license for Oracle Linux. I
    installed the server on my Redhat 5.2 machine and the
    Net8/SqlPlus client on my win95 box. I have a billing system I'm
    trying to install (PRISM, www.isppower.com) with the client on
    the win95 and the database on Linux. I can run Net8Assistant
    and create a name (PRISM) for the server. I can connect to the
    name using SQLPLUS. I created a new user, tablespace, tables and
    data using the scripts that come with the billing system. All
    this worked using SQLPLUS on the win95 box connecting to the
    linux server. Now, when I try to run the billing application
    which uses ODBC I get an error that Oracle cannot find the name
    server. This is coming from the ODBC driver.
    Using NetAssistant I can't find any Oracle Name servers. The
    only thing I'm running on the linux box is the database (dbstart)
    and the listener (lsnctrl start).
    The listener status give this output (not permission denied
    problems on the TNS entries)

    Hi Matthew...
    The problem is your ODBC- Call, for sure. Are there some more
    informations ? 16bit ? 32 bit ? Which type of net ? Is your
    odbc-driver capable for Net8 ? Will you give an description of
    your dsn ?
    Some suggestions...if your odbc-call is not Net8 capable, try the
    following in your registry:
    hkey_local_machine -> software -> oracle
    add TNS_ADMIN
    value C:\ORAWIN95\NET80\ADMIN
    which references the path for your tnsnames.ora file
    Hope it works
    Regards
    Mathias

  • Failed Oracle Linux 7 Installation

    I recieve the same error on 2 machines that I originally had Oracle 6.5 Linux installed on. I recieve error populating transaction after 10 retries. Packages/VIM-common-7.4.160-l.el7.x86-64.rpm from Anaconda [Error 256]
    The installer appears to hang until this error occurs.
    Dave

    The fact that Oracle Linux 6.6 installed fine, as well as CentOS, makes me wonder about the DVD driver on the Oracle Linux 7.0 image.
    I burned the DVD twice and tried 2 different USB DVD drives without success.  Then I decided to try burning the Oracle Linux 7.0 image to a USB stick as described on this Ubuntu site:
    How to create a bootable USB stick on OS X | Ubuntu
    There are directions on how to create a bootable USB stick on other OS's there too.
    Download Ubuntu Desktop | Download | Ubuntu
    The install worked fine from this.  I did notice a very slow response when I typed the root password when trying to install from the DVD but this worked normal when installing from the USB stick.

    You should find all rpms and their right version (as required by installer) onto linux 6 iso.
    For some rpms the installer can like higher versions but not for all. For some rpms installer requires the exact version.

  • Installing 11gR2 (linux.zseries64) on oracle linux 5 guest system failed

    Dear experts,
    I decided to post a detailed thread since it seems my last thread is totally forgotten. Hopefully, this thread could clarify my problem of installing oracle database 11.2.0.2 in oracle linux guest system in windows 7 host system. Sorry about that.
    I installed oracle linux 5 update 6 x86_64 bits guest system in my windows 7 host using oracle virtualbox 4.2.12 so that I can install oracle database 11.2.0.2 (linux.zseries64_11gR2_database_1of2.zip, linux.zseries64_11gR2_database_2of2.zip). The oracle database I downloaded has some functions which are not available in 11.2.0.1. These two disks are extracted in a shared folder.
    I followed the instructions in a guide to run the installation:
    # yum install oracle-validated
    It succeeded. and, I used uname -a to return this additional information:
    "Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.32-400.26.2.el5uek #1"
    Then I set these below:
    SELINUX=permissive
    mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1
    chown -R oracle:oinstall /u01
    chmod -R 775 /u01
    xhost + 127.0.0.1
    and, added something in .bash_profile:
    # Oracle Settings
    TMP=/tmp; export TMP
    TMPDIR=$TMP; export TMPDIR
    ORACLE_HOSTNAME=127.0.0.1; export ORACLE_HOSTNAME
    ORACLE_UNQNAME=DB11G; export ORACLE_UNQNAME
    ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle; export ORACLE_BASE
    ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/product/11.2.0/db_1; export ORACLE_HOME
    ORACLE_SID=DB11G; export ORACLE_SID
    PATH=/usr/sbin:$PATH; export PATH
    PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$PATH; export PATH
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:/lib:/usr/lib; export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    CLASSPATH=$ORACLE_HOME/jlib:$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/jlib; export CLASSPATH
    Then, I set DISPLAY environment in terminal:
    export DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0.0
    Finally, I logged into the guest system as a user, not root, to run the installation. However, I got the frustrating error message:
    [hsl@localhost database]$ ./runInstaller
    ./runInstaller: line 254: /media/sf_My_Share/Oracle/database/install/.oui: cannot execute binary file
    Can anybody please give some advices to fix the problem. The installation is very important to me. Thanks a lot in advance.

  • Problem on Installing RAC System - Oracle Linux 6.2 and 11gR2

    Folks,
    Hello. I just start to install 4-nodes RAC system using VMplayer 3. The host Operating System is Windows 7.
    The Guest OS is Oracle Linux 6.2.
    Because my computer's hard disk does not have enough space, I install the Guest OS Oracle Linux 6.2 into a external hard disk. But its speed is very slow. It has taken more than 24 hours by now, but still don't finish installing Oracle Linux 6.2.
    Do any folk understand what's going on ? Is there any problem on Oracle Linux 6.2 ?
