Oracle Linux support subscription. for Oracle employees

I am using RHEL 5 but could not find wireshark trace and I beleive that you need to have Oracle Linux support subscription to access yum repositories. How an Oracle employee can update the software?

Here is a previous link that could be interesting to you:
Re: Employee Access to ULN or Public Yum?
You can also install wireshark and dependend packages using oracle public yum by following the instructions on
http://public-yum.oracle.com/
# yum install wireshark
# yum install wireshark-gnome

  • Personal support license for Oracle.

I am a developer for a company that spends over one million dollars a year on Oracle licenses. I have ordered the free DVD's for Oracle Linux and I am planning to install it on My personal computer at home. I am then going to install 32bit Oracle 11 for Linux so that I can evaluate the new database. I wanted to purchase a Linux support license for my one home computer so that I would have access to web support and Linux patches. This computer is owned by me, not the company. When I attempted to go into oracle store, I was unable to purchase the $99.99 support license until I registered. Unfortunately, you must supply a company name and address to register in oracle store to purchase the Linux support license. I do not want to put the support contract under my company, it is MY computer. Since I could not find any way to register as an individual, I called the toll free number to ask the sales department. I was explaining my problem and as soon as I said a personal license for one installation of Oracle Linux, the sales person hung up on me. They did not say anything, just hung up. I am upset and do not feel that this behavior is acceptable if oracle is going to be selling Linux support.
Now the question. Does anyone know how to register for Linux support as an individual?

    Beilstwh,
Many customers have purchased a Network support for personal use. If you purchase via the online store, you can use your own name as the company name.

How are you going to run it without storage?
Will the suse linux is good for oracle 9i and Kind of open ended. Is Pepsi better than Coke? Although as stated, Oracle 9i will be your bigger support issue.

  • How to install Oracle BPEL Process Manager for OracleAS Middle Tier

    hi,
i need to install BPEL process manager, so i download the following file from otn
    1.soa_windows_x86_101310_disk1
    2.soa_windows_x86_bpel_101310
here i read the document named b28980.pdf from bpel\doc\pc.1012 to install BPEL PM
so i start to complete the pre-installation task
    1.installed Oracle database 10g
2.Run the Integration Repository Creation Assistant on the Database
3.Install Oracle Application Server 10g Release3 (10.1.3.1.0) and select either the J2EE Server installation type or the J2EE and Web Server installation type. selected J2EE and Web Server installation type
and installed according to the Oracle application server installation guide.
installed OracleAS in the path : D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1
4.Install the current release of Oracle BPEL Process Manager for OracleAS Middle Tier
here they mention to select the J2EE and Web Server installation type because that type is selected in Oracle AS installed in Oracle Application Server
so i start to install the BPEL PM by selecting the setup.exe-->and shows the location source and destination
default destination is : D:\product\10.1.3.1\OraBPEL_1 selected next on the screen
the next screen is select installation type here there are two types named
1.BPEL process Manager for Developer (371MB)
2.BPEL process manager for Oracle AS Middle tier (107MB)
i selected 2.BPEL process manager for Oracle AS Middle tier (107MB) and click next
pop up window opens with title dependencies
    error:
BPEL Process manager for oracle AS Middle tier will run on top of a supported Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.1.0 J2EE server and Web Server Or J2EE server instance. this location does not contain this instance. Please select new Oracle home that contains a supported instance.
so i changed the destination path to : D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1\BIN then also i got the same error.
please any one mention the path for J2EE and Web Server instance for installing the BPEL PM for Oracle AS Middle Tier.
    Thanks in Advance
    Aswath Thaniga

If you choose the developer version you will be fine.
If you have installed J2EE and Web Server installation into D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1 then this is the location you install your BPEL PM into, not D:\product\10.1.3.1\OraBPEL_1 or D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1\BIN.
D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1 is what we call the ORACLE_HOME, generally we create a new home for each install, but in this case there is a dependency on 10.1.3.1 OC4J container. So it needs to be installed into 10.1.3.1 oracle home.
The bin directory is just the executables for that home, its not the actual. home.
    cheers

  • Oracle JDBC Thin Driver for oracle 9.2.0.4

    Hi,
It would be nice if someone please guide me to the download of Oracle JDBC Thin Driver for oracle 9.2.0.4.
    Thanks in anticipation

    user566773,
As far as I know, all Oracle JDBC drivers are meant to be backward compatible.
According to the table on the following Web page, the latest Oracle JDBC driver can be used with Oracle 9.2.0.x DBMS.

  • Oracle Linux 6 Certification for HP small servers

    Hi all.
We have been selling small - medium servers and services for our clients. By small i mean servers like HP Proliant series, ranging from ML110 and higher. Also IBMs like X3200 X3400, X3600 and so on .... What we normally do is sell these servers with Oracle Linux, Oracle Database and an Oracle Application we developed. We advise clients to purchase Oracle Support for Linux, which they might or might not take, and Oracle support for the Database.
Normally, we check the OS supported for that Server and if RHEL is supported, we are safe to install Oracle Linux, since, they are suppose to be 100% compatible. We've never had an issue with this ....
To our surprise, we just have an issue with a ML110 G7 Server. Although, RHEL5 is supported, Oracle Linux 5 can not be installed. It fails to recognize disks on the create partition phase of the installation. I could only install OL6 on this box. Unfortunately, this comes with an issue: no Oracle Database release is actually certified to run on that OS.
This situation creates a problem with out current policy.
So to make things short, i'd like to know whether there is a list of certified servers for Oracle Linux, and why if a server is certified on RHEL5 , Oracle Linux 5 can not be installed...
    Thanks in advance ....

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/hplinuxcert.html will show you which HP systems are HP supported or tested with RHEL and Oracle Linux.
Note also http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/supportmatrix/rhel/exceptions/rhel-exceptions.html which shows minimum supported Updates required. And http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/options-matrix-all.html regarding support for installed options.
Regarding ML110 G7, the minimum required is RHEL 5.6 and RHEL 6.0. Which version of Oracle Linux have you been trying to install?

  • 10.2.0.4 Patch for Linux 64 bits for Oracle 64 Bits on RH 5.2

    Hi,
Can some one guide me to get the patch for 10.2.0.4 for Oracle 64 bits on Linux RH 5.2 64 bits please!!
    thanks

    Hi,
the patch URL you can get from:
    http://www.oratoolkit.ch/download/
but the thing is that you need to be an oracle customer with a valid customer support id (CSI) to download it. Without CSI there is no chance to get the patch.

  • Article on the cost savings of Linux over Win2k for Oracle 9i????

Has anyone seen an article on cost savings for switching to Linux from Win2K as an Oracle server. I am trying to make the switch in my small company and looking for all the ammo I can find to make a presentation.
    Thanks in advance.
    Lone DBA

    Cost savings is Win2k licence
    No!
If you need cost saving and don't need support-
    don't use Oracle.
There are good databases with open source licenses,
for instance,SAP DB.Yes, or PostgreSQL, but SAP DB or PostreSQL don't have
features like Oracle btw. replication, referential integrity (I know that have this, but performance are bad), select large queries, distributed databases etc.
If You don't need this features You can use SAP or PostgreSQL.
Oracle work good without support - Oracle is very stable and documentation is excelent.
Support is optional and support is same in Windows and Linux.
If You have to pay for SLES or RH AS for Oracle support,You don't need licence for every servers or clients - for Win You have to pay licence for every server
and clients - this is cost savings (not support)
    This is real cost saving.
If you don't need Oracle support, you don't really need
    so expensive RDBMS :-)
    IMHO.???
    regards

It will not help . Why ?
You asked "+I want to know whether Oracle 11g (11.1.0.7). support RHEL 5+"
From the doc I linked earlier, you can read :
"+The following are the operating system requirements for Oracle Database 11g Release 1:+
    +...+
    +Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5+"
That is the answer to your question. Now if you changed your question regarding the matrix certification, the best way is to check the follwoing, help yourself :
    1. the Oracle Support Certification tool (http://support.oracle.com) - not free
    2. check the corresponding documentation (http://docs.oracle.com and look for the installation docs for the db version you want and OS) - free

  • How to count processors on Linux 5.6 for Oracle Coherence

We are running coherence on Sun blade servers with multicore processors with Hyperthreading enable. Therefore, the /proc/cpu information shows 24 cores. For the sake of calculating the cores for use with coherence (.5 core per member) do we use the actual number of cores or the number reported (12 actual cores vs 24 cores with Hyperthreading)?
    Thank you.

    Folks,
Hello. Thanks a lot for replying. OEL 5.6 comes with 2 kernels: uek and red hat
I have chosen to use red hat kernel for 64-bit. I run the following command:
    [root@rac1 /]# uname -rm
    Output: 2.6.18-238.el5x86_64
I have downloaded 4 files for this version of kernel from
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/linux/downloads/rhel5-084877.html as below:
    oracleasm-2.6.18-238.el5xen-2.0.5-1.el5.x86_64.rpm
    oracleasm-2.6.18-238.el5debug-2.0.5-1.el5.x86_64.rpm
    oracleasm-2.6.18-238.el5-debuginfo-2.0.5-1.el5.x86_64.rpm
    oracleasm-2.6.18-238.el5-2.0.5-1.el5.x86_64.rpm
I have installed the 4 files and got the error messages for the first 2 files as below:
    [root@rac1 /]# rpm -ivh /home/oracleasm-2.6.18-238.el5xen-2.0.5-1.el5.x86_64.rpm
Error: Failed dependencies: kernel-xen=2.6.18-238.el5 is needed by oracleasm-2.6.18-238.el5xen-2.0.5-1.el5.x86_64.rpm

The last 2 files have been installed successfully. But when reboot Oracle Linux Server-Base 2.6.18-238.el5, I still see :
    "Initializing ASMLib driver: FAILED."
    [root@rac1 /]#/etc/init.d/oracleasm configure -i
Its output "initializing Oracle ASMLib driver: OK "
    My questions are:
Does the issue OS "Initializing Oracle ASMLib driver: FAILED" have effect later ? Do we need to solve it ?
    Thanks.

  • Support question for Oracle Express

Can anyone tell me if Oracle provides security patches for Express? I read an artical from '03 that said they do not. It said Oracle only provides new builds with the patches included.

Support for express is not being delivered via Metalink, but via a forum Oracle Database Express Edition (XE)
I suggest you re-ask your question there.

Can anyone help me to identifiy how to remove the wrong end date from the benefit plan for the employee..

If you are using life events, just backout the life event and the end-date will go away. then create a fresh life event and make necessary changes.
