Oracle Lite 8i limits

Hi,
Can I get acurate answers on the following issues:
1)What is the max db size of a OL8i database. The documentation
says 4GB, but a lot of people say that the ODB file can
not grow more than 2GB.
2)Is this a proven fact that OL8i can maintain 35 comcurrent
connections. Again, practise shows that the limit is 2-10.
3) Is it true that OLite 8i stores numeric types inefficiently:
For example a NUMBER(38) column in the big Oracle Server 8.1.5
would take much less space than NUMBER(38) column in OLite 8i.
Thank you,
Hristo

Hi Maria,
Check your Oracle Lite 8i and Developer's SQL NET
Version may be your Oracle lite 8i SQL Net version higher then
Developer's Version. So when u install Developer the SQL NET is
over written and it's not working so Ideal is first u install
Developer and then Install Oracle Lite 8i It will work.

  • UTF8 support in Oracle Lite

I looks to me like Oracle Lite doesn't support the UTF8 character set for storing data. Is this correct?
I have an Oracle 8.1.7 database using UTF8 to store English, Thai, Chinese and Philippino data, and I want to synchronise that with Oracle Lite on Windows 2000 clients. The sync seems to work ok, but any non-english characters are lost in a characterset conversion (display as "?").
    Regards
    Steve

I'm a bit confused by your reply. Can Oracle Lite store data in a unicode characterset such as UTF8? It looks to me like the "UTF-8 support" is limited to the drivers, so that it can load and extract utf-8 data, but not store it. From section 2.2.1 of the release notes:
"Oracle Lite Database is NOT a NLS component. In order to reduce the kernel size, it is built for each language which supports native character sets for Windows. Which means, each language has each kernel. Here are the character sets supported by this release:
    - Chinese: MS936 CodePage (Simplified Chinese GBK, ZHS)
    - Taiwanese: MS950 CodePage (Traditional Chinese BIG5, ZHT)
    - Japanese: MS932 CodePage (Japanese Shift-JIS, JA)
    - Korean: MS949 CodePage (Korean, Ko)
The database kernel for each language in this list only supports its corresponding character set. Other multibyte character sets are not supported."
Also the documentation on the DBCharEncoding parameter you mention suggests that it only affects the UTF translation for java programs. Section A.2.3:
"... Specifies the UTF translation performed by Oracle Lite. If set to NATIVE, no UTF translation is performed. If set to UTF8, UTF translation is performed. If this parameter is not specified, the default is UTF8. This applies to Java programs only."
I've tried playing with these parameters, as well as changing the NLS_LANG parameter on the client, and for the mobile server, for the Oracle Lite home, all to no avail. I'm still losing the non-english data during synchronisation and it does look like it's being lost in a character set conversion rather than just being garbled, as each Thai characters is being replaced by the correct number of "?"s. As an example the Thai string "บริษัท บราเดอร์ คอมเมอร์เชี่ยล (ประเทศไทย) จำกัด" on the 8.1.7 database sever appears as "?????? ???????? ?????????????? (?????????) ?????" on the oracle lite database.
Am I missing something here? If I can get this data syncronising correctly then Oracle Lite looks like it will support all our requirments so any assistance would be greatly appreciated. (Should I post this to the globilization forum or does that focus only on Oracle's enterprise editions?)
BTW, thanks for the info on the sorting. Obviously the characterset issue is more a fundamental problem at this stage, but if we can fix this then it's good to know about the sorting abilities.

  • Oracle lite with CLOB

    Hello all
I have a need to inserts large CLOBS in the Oracle Lite database. However the data goes in fine, but when i retrieve it back, i recieve null. I could see that the data is stored in the database.
I use the sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver driver, and i use the Toplink to speak to database with oracle.toplink.internal.databaseaccess.OraclePlatform. The news group on the toplink suggested me that the there might be some limitation on the length of the CLOB that can be retrieved, based on the driver used. So i am posting the question here. Any information regarding the issue will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance

We do not support CLOBS in Lite. Please try using BLOBS, which are supported.

  • Oracle Lite - in line quiries

    9iLite 5.0.2.8
    Do in-line queries work?
    example

    where a.col_D = 1
    start with a.col_a = 0
    connect by b.col_b = prior a.col_a
We have more complex queries that work on an enterprise verison of the DB, but these sql statements all fail when executed on 9iLite.
Assuimg their are limitations to the complexity of
the sql that can run on 9iLite, is there a document
which hi-lites these limitations and possible work-arounds. I have read the SQL Reference for 9iLite - it documents what syntax is allowed very well.
I am suspecting that temporary objects in 9iLite sql may not be allowed.
Thanks in advance for any input.

    The actual syntax is ...
    select level, cls.isActive, cls.application_class_id,
    menu.application_class_id_parent, menu.menu_order,
    menu.menu_id
    from application_class cls,

    start with (cls.application_class_id = 0 or
    menu.application_class_id_parent is null )
    connect by menu.application_class_id_parent = prior
    cls.application_class_id
    and cls.application_class_id != 0

This sql works on an EE version of the DB. I do agree that

  • Does Oracle Lite support Oracle Spatial

Does anybody know whether Oracle Lite or Personal Oracle supports the Oracle Spatial plug-in. Also, for extra credit does anybody know what the difference between Personal Oracle and Oracle Lite is?
We will be needing to provide some attribute and spatial data from our Oracle Enterprise database to several laptops for field personnel using an electronic map we developed. We would like to use a portable version of Oracle that supports Oracle Spatial objects.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Dan

oh, I didn't realize it was so limited. No, that won't do. We're looking for a "mini" version of the real production database including stored code, triggers etc. Should be scaled down enough to allow rapid syncing of data and schema changes from the production (or really QA) database, but full enough to include the objects necessary to allow the developers to test their code changes to the front end applicaiton on their own environment.

    Laura,
Can you tell me than what's the use of choosing an Oracle Lite

And do you know of a way to use a thin driver to connect to an

    : Marko,

  • Oracle Lite + Resin + jdk1.2.2 or jdk 1.3.1 problem

    Hi!
Can some one help me this the following:
I used Oracle Lite database, Resin app server and jdk1.2.2

    Hi,
I have got the similar problem when I used MS SQL server + Tomcat + JDK1.3.0 via JdbcOdbc driver. In that configuration the JVM crashs very often. It seems that JdbcOdbc's got unstable problem. Then, I tried other type 4 JDBC driver, it works fine and JVM won't crash. Try Sprinta 2000 JDBC driver, it's a type 4 driver and fast stable.

    HI Jeremy,
I think, Your PATH was cranked up.
The JDBC driver for OLite normally does not use any OCI DLLs, so that should not be the problem. As I said, the OLite dlls may be missing now from the PATH.

(Since this is the general forum for the 'big' database, my advice would be to ask in the Oracle Lite forum. Database Mobile Server (inc. legacy Database Lite)
If this is a formal evaluation, you could also get a Sales-sponsored trial which usually comes with 30-90 days of Metalink support. You would be able to search for notes like Doc 414106.1
Bottom line is that the code is for JDK 1.5 and it's being deployed against JDK 1.4.2. Something needs to be either upgraded or downgraded.

  • Unable to install Oracle Lite 10g on Windows 7 64-bit

I've tried installing Oracle Lite 10g on my Windows 7 64-bit computer but I get a message saying "JDK is not installed on machine". I even have Java installed on my computer too.
Any ideas what could be causing the issue?
    Thanks
    Gareth

Oracle lite 10g is not supported on Windows 7.    The core issue is you are running on an unsupported platform.
You have may have to go in the docs and figure out what JDKs were supported, i think 1.4 and 1.5. and try
installing one of those and maybe you can get uninstall to work.   This is just a guess though.
    thanks

The following procedure describes the steps required to deploy the DbAdapter.rar file using admin_client.jar:
    1. Copy the following libraries from server.xml in an OC4J_SOA container to a server.xml file for a new
    container:
    oracle.bpel.common
    apache.junit
    oracle.db.lite
    apache.commons
    apache.jdom
    apache.slide
For example, for oracle.bpel.common, copy the following extract from one server.xml to another and
do the same for all other libraries:
    <shared-library name="oracle.bpel.common" version="10.1.3">
    <code-source path="D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_5/bpel/system/classes"/>

    2. Restart the container to make sure that server.xml was updated correctly.
    3. From the configtools.log file find the opmn port number, for example:
    deployer:oc4j:opmn://dimak.au.oracle.com:6012/home
dimak.au.oracle.com - is the machine name and
    6012 - port number
    4. Launch a new command prompt
and set path and classpath, for example:
    set PATH=$ORACLE_HOME\jdk\bin;%PATH%
    set classpath=.
where in the classpath there is only one entry - the dot, which stands for the current directory.
    5. change directory to the following:
    $ORACLE_HOME\j2ee\home
and run the following command (written all on one line) to deploy the DbAdapter:
    java -jar admin_client.jar deployer:oc4j:opmn://dimak.au.oracle.com:6012/test oc4jadmin
    manager1 -deploy -file $ORACLE_HOME\integration\esb\lib\DBAdapter.rar -deploymentName
    DbAdapter2 -parent default
    where
    * dimak.au.oracle.com should be substituted with your machine name
    * 6012 should be substituted with your port which you found in step 3
    * test is the name of the container you want to deploy the adapter to
    * manager1 should be substituted with your oc4jadmin password
    * $ORACLE_HOME\integration\esb\lib\DBAdapter.rar is the location of the DBAdapter.rar file
    * deploymentName DbAdapter2 - should be different from DbAdapter, as that name is already used in the OC4J_SOA container.

  • Converting between tables in an Oracle Lite Database

We have a standalone application that uses Oracle Lite. A requirement we have from a new customer is to use their Oracle Lite database structure or to come up with a mechanism that sends the data between the 2 different structures.
Both the structures reside in the same database.
Initial thoughts were to write triggers on both structures that convert the data or to use XML / XSL and treat them as seperate apps.
However, I'm wondering if there is a different way. Do Oracle provide any tools that can help with mapping between 2 different structures that hold the same domain data?
    Anyone got any better ideas?
    Cheers, Matt

  • Oracle Lite 10.3.0: how to find out the consumed size of a BLOB column

    Hi,
we are developing an app that utilizes an Oracle Lite database and so far I have just been unable to find a reasonable way to determine the size of stored binary data.
All the "usual" ways we aware of from "main" Oracle just don't seem to work with OLIte (ie SELECT dbms_lob.getlength(file_data) from APPS.CSL_LOBS) so how does one find out the size of blob objects?
    Thanks in advance

Assuming BLOBs are not stored in-line:
