Oracle Lite's Support
What are the mobile phone models supported by "Oracle Lite 10gr3 for Symbian"?
Is Nokia 6600 supported?
Thanks in Anticipation....
There's instructions in the documentation. See section 4.3.5.
I have not been in touch with this Lite variant, so I can't provide much guidance here. But when I get my hands on one of those smart phones, I think I will try it out. :)

Hi,
Can anyone help me and tell me whether Oracle Lite database supports the storage of Arabic characters? If so, how to do the configuration to support it
thanks in advance
shibuHave you had any response to this?
It looks to me like Oracle Lite only supports Western European languages and CCJK (Chinese, Japanese and Korean) and it does this with individual localised versions of the database kernel. If you hear otherwise please let me know, as I want to syncronise Thai and Chinese data stored in a UTF8 database. -

I looks to me like Oracle Lite doesn't support the UTF8 character set for storing data. Is this correct?
I have an Oracle 8.1.7 database using UTF8 to store English, Thai, Chinese and Philippino data, and I want to synchronise that with Oracle Lite on Windows 2000 clients. The sync seems to work ok, but any non-english characters are lost in a characterset conversion (display as "?").
Regards
SteveI'm a bit confused by your reply. Can Oracle Lite store data in a unicode characterset such as UTF8? It looks to me like the "UTF-8 support" is limited to the drivers, so that it can load and extract utf-8 data, but not store it. From section 2.2.1 of the release notes:
"Oracle Lite Database is NOT a NLS component. In order to reduce the kernel size, it is built for each language which supports native character sets for Windows. Which means, each language has each kernel. Here are the character sets supported by this release:
- Chinese: MS936 CodePage (Simplified Chinese GBK, ZHS)
- Taiwanese: MS950 CodePage (Traditional Chinese BIG5, ZHT)
- Japanese: MS932 CodePage (Japanese Shift-JIS, JA)
- Korean: MS949 CodePage (Korean, Ko)
The database kernel for each language in this list only supports its corresponding character set. Other multibyte character sets are not supported."
Also the documentation on the DBCharEncoding parameter you mention suggests that it only affects the UTF translation for java programs. Section A.2.3:
"... Specifies the UTF translation performed by Oracle Lite. If set to NATIVE, no UTF translation is performed. If set to UTF8, UTF translation is performed. If this parameter is not specified, the default is UTF8. This applies to Java programs only."
I've tried playing with these parameters, as well as changing the NLS_LANG parameter on the client, and for the mobile server, for the Oracle Lite home, all to no avail. I'm still losing the non-english data during synchronisation and it does look like it's being lost in a character set conversion rather than just being garbled, as each Thai characters is being replaced by the correct number of "?"s. As an example the Thai string "บริษัท บราเดอร์ คอมเมอร์เชี่ยล (ประเทศไทย) จำกัด" on the 8.1.7 database sever appears as "?????? ???????? ?????????????? (?????????) ?????" on the oracle lite database.
Am I missing something here? If I can get this data syncronising correctly then Oracle Lite looks like it will support all our requirments so any assistance would be greatly appreciated. (Should I post this to the globilization forum or does that focus only on Oracle's enterprise editions?)
BTW, thanks for the info on the sorting. Obviously the characterset issue is more a fundamental problem at this stage, but if we can fix this then it's good to know about the sorting abilities. -
JDK/JRE Version support for Oracle Lite
Hi,
We have developed an application using jdk 1.4.x which also using Oracle9i Lite 5.0.2 release as a database. Application behaves normal except while closing it throws java exception (Exceptio Guard Page Exception) error.
Is it because of the JDK Version we are using? What is the JDK/JRE version level supported by Oracle Lite.
Thanks
KrishnaRight
I got the same problem too.
When my program and oracle 9i lite is running under JRE1.3.1, everything is ok.
However, when i migrate the jre to 1.4.x, the program must fail and report DLL exception after closing.
So trouble~! -
Is XMLTYPE not supported in Oracle Lite?
I tried to create a XMLTYPE column in Oracle Lite. I am getting this error.
[POL-5147] this feature is not supported. Is XMLTYPE not supported in oracle lite ?
Can anyone help me understand how to create XMLTYPE column in oracle lite?
Thanks..Or you could say that they are supported, but sharpening, moire and de-noise are not available (or just set to default), which is actually more Canon's fault. sRAW is a major mess and we're very lucky it's even supported in AP3, finally.

1. In $OLITE_HOME\mobile_oc4j\j2ee\mobileserver\applications
\mobileserver\setup\common\webtogo\webtogo.ora file edit the JAVA_OPTION
to:
JAVA_OPTION=-Djava.compiler=NONE -Dfile.encoding=UTF8
2. In $OLITE_HOME\mobile_oc4j\j2ee\mobileserver\applications
\mobileserver\setup\dmc\common\win32.inf file, add/edit the following:
a. In the <file> section, add the following:

Does Oracle Lite support Oracle Spatial
Does anybody know whether Oracle Lite or Personal Oracle supports the Oracle Spatial plug-in. Also, for extra credit does anybody know what the difference between Personal Oracle and Oracle Lite is?
We will be needing to provide some attribute and spatial data from our Oracle Enterprise database to several laptops for field personnel using an electronic map we developed. We would like to use a portable version of Oracle that supports Oracle Spatial objects.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Danoh, I didn't realize it was so limited. No, that won't do. We're looking for a "mini" version of the real production database including stored code, triggers etc. Should be scaled down enough to allow rapid syncing of data and schema changes from the production (or really QA) database, but full enough to include the objects necessary to allow the developers to test their code changes to the front end applicaiton on their own environment.

Error while trying access JSP page first time using Oracle Lite
Hi,
We are doing a proof of concept using Oracle Lite 10gR3. Installed Mobile server and published a JSP based application. Installed web-to-go setup.exe on a client machine and synchronized the application. However when we tried to open the page, it comes up with an error. We are using jdk version 1.4. Any advise will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

If this is a formal evaluation, you could also get a Sales-sponsored trial which usually comes with 30-90 days of Metalink support. You would be able to search for notes like Doc 414106.1
Bottom line is that the code is for JDK 1.5 and it's being deployed against JDK 1.4.2. Something needs to be either upgraded or downgraded. -
Unable to install Oracle Lite 10g on Windows 7 64-bit
I've tried installing Oracle Lite 10g on my Windows 7 64-bit computer but I get a message saying "JDK is not installed on machine". I even have Java installed on my computer too.
Any ideas what could be causing the issue?
Thanks
GarethOracle lite 10g is not supported on Windows 7. The core issue is you are running on an unsupported platform.
You have may have to go in the docs and figure out what JDKs were supported, i think 1.4 and 1.5. and try
installing one of those and maybe you can get uninstall to work. This is just a guess though.
thanks

Connecting to Oracle lite via VB6
Hello
is there a better way to connect to Oracle 10g when using VB6?
this is what I have:
Under references I am using Microsoft DAO 3.6 Object library
I do have a module where I defined the following public variables:
Public wsOracle As DAO.Workspace
Public cnOracle As DAO.Connection
Public strConn As String
and a function to alllow me to connect to the database:
Function ConnectDB()
On Error GoTo Error_DataBaseError
strConn = "ODBC;DSN=MY_DATABASE;UID=user;PWD=passr"
Set wsOracle = DBEngine.CreateWorkspace("", "admin", "admin", dbUseODBC)
wsOracle.DefaultCursorDriver = dbUseClientBatchCursor
Set cnOracle = wsOracle.OpenConnection("", dbDriverNoPrompt, False, strConn)
Error_DataBaseError:
If Err <> 0 Then
Call ErrorCatching("ConnectDB ()")
End If
End Function
It seems to work but I am having issues, two apps are connected to the same Database one is in power builder y the other in VB6 after a certain time of inactivity I get timed out from the VB app and this gets also into the power builder app.
but if one app is open for a long time it seems to work just fine. any ideas why?
I read that I can use the Oracle Lite 40 ODBC Driver
but I can't seem to find a way to do the call from VB6
any ideas?
any enlightenment will be appreciatedUnfortunately, in 2.0 beta, the Infobus Data Form wizard
connection editor only supported the Oracle Thin, OCI7 and OCI8
drivers. For 2.0 production, Oracle Lite and the JDBC-ODBC bridge
will also be supported.

JDBC API ( JSR 169 ) Implementation for accessing oracle lite database
We are developing an application using IBM J9 (CDC and Foundation Profile) on Pocket PC 2003 environment with SWT as the front end development. We are using Oracle Lite 9i as the Client database.
We have sucessfully installed Oracle Lite and was able to create tables in the database.. however we could not find the JDBC API (java.sql and javax.sql packages which is JSR 169 JDBC 2.0/3.0) inorder to load the JDBC driver(OLITE40.jar) and access the oracle Lite Database on Pocket PC.
IBM J9 Micro Environement does not have this support.
I am wondering if Oracle provides this implementation.
If not is there a get around.
the client database is crucial to the application and i would really appreciate an answer to our problem.Check out

I am connecting to an Oracle lite database on NT Server 4.0 with
JDBC and trying to run an simple insert statement. If I try to
run the same statement again (which should throw an exception
since the pk already exists) I get an application error - not an
exception as expected - I get the same thing when executing a
"delete from.." stmt on an empty table. These same stmts work
fine in Oracle8i.
Also, if I use access with ODBC to view the tables access will
often freeze up on me.
Any Help would be appreciated.

nullYou probably mean if you can call a Java Stored Procedure from ADOCE application. PL/SQL packages are not supported in Oracle Lite database. The answer is no. For more information see Developers' Guide for WindowsCE, Chapter 4

Does Oracle Lite embeded XML DB feature???
Please tell me, whether the Oracle lite enabled XML DB feature??? Thanks!!!!
As far as I know the Oracle Lite product does not currently support any of the XML features of the Oracle Database. What features were you looking for. Was it just XML storeage and queryiability or was it SQL <--> XML interaction. For a pure XML capability you might want to look at Sleepcat's DB-XML product. It's a programming API that lets you store, index and query XML documents. As you may have seen in the news Oracle recently purchased Sleepcat.
