Oracle Manufacturing Guidance

Dear Seniors,
I have over 5 years of experience in IT, with over 3 year in Demand planning and Supply chain domain. I am looking forward for a career in functional consultinging. Kindly suggest what will be best possible path to do so, ie Getting degree (ex MBA or PGBM) or Training & Certification in Oracle Applications or any better way.
As per my research Oracle Manufacturing will help strengthen my profile. Though i have demand planning background and not manufacturing, but it will help understand entire cycle of planning.
My question to all you is
1) Which is the better way to switch to functional role ?
2) How to get the Oracle manufacturing fucntional training ?
3) Is there any Good institute/college in India which gives this training ( i looking for my options, i know Oracle educations is one)
Request for your kind Guidance.
Thanking you
Madanmohan.

There will certainly be many ways to answer your question. I will offer my perspective.
In my opinion, MBA is a little overhyped (I have one) and not very useful in becoming a functional consultant. The only time I will recommend MBA is if you manage to get into one of the leading universities / colleges ; otherwise it is not worth it.
Obtaining more experience in Demand planning /SCM will be a better way to lay foundation for a functional consultant. Having a strong technical background is always very important. At 5 years in IT (and 3 in SCM), you may need a few more years of experience.
And remember, you don't switch from technical to functional overnight. It is a continuum where, as you increase your understanding of businesses/industries, you slowly start venturing into functional world one task at a time.
So stick with what you are doing for a couple of years - try to be on the lookout for a project/employer that has a wide EBS footprint (this ensures that you get exposure to various modules) and one day you will find you are working more in functional area than technical. No matter what you do, do not let go of technical world completely. A combo of the two is more valuable.
Exploring the menu options on your own and RTFM is one of the best ways to learn. You may consider some classes but they are expensive and offer only a limited face time. Instead, try find someone who is really good and who can walk you thru' various swim lanes/processes. Paying him will be cheaper than attending classes and you will get a lot more face time.
Hope this helps and good luck.

  • Oracle Manufacturing Operational Center

    Hi All,
    We are using only Oracle Manufacturing Operational Center (MOC) Module of the EBS 12.1.3 , But we have installed whole EBS.
    I wanted to know is there are any services or option they are module specific so that we can disable them as using only MOC.
    Thanks
    Nawneet

    I wanted to know is there are any services or option they are module specific so that we can disable them as using only MOC.I understand that you have not installed/licensed other modules, so there are no other services that you need to disable. You still need to have all the application/database services up and running. For the CMs, you might review the running ones and see which one is not required (I would suggest you keep it as it is).
    Thanks,

  • Oracle manufacturing

    Iam a new entry to 11i apps(mfg).I had the following queries:
    1.What is the hardware/software requirement for 11i mfg.
    2.How integrated are the modules? Can an industry install module wise instead of all.
    3.How many users can login concurrantly?and what is the minimum users?
    4.Once mfg is installad what can be the annual maintenence contract?
    5.What is the implementation time for a module and complete suite?
    6.What level of custumization is possible with 11i?
    7.If I go with 11i apps can I have zero paper work in my company?
    8.What is the minimum requirement for an organisation that can go for 11i.i.e. interms of man,machine,materials etc?
    I will be thankful if any one solve my queries
    Prabhu.

    Prabhu,
    Most of your queries do not have a direct answer, since most of these are custom specific.
    However, let me try and address as best as I can with the info given.
    1.What is the hardware/software requirement for 11i mfg.You need Server and clients. Clients use only a browser. Server configuration is based on the number of users and the transaction load.
    Try the site for thumbrule sizing - www.compaq.com/activeanswers
    2.How integrated are the modules? Can an industry install module wise instead of all.The whole of 11i is integrated. You can buy/install/use individual modules, or the complete suite.
    3.How many users can login concurrantly?and what is the minimum users?There is no restriction on number of users. We have 11i customers starting from 5 user environments to thousands of users.
    4.Once mfg is installad what can be the annual maintenence contract?AMC from Oracle covers all product updates and upgrades, including new versions.
    Note that this support is all electronic - through the internet, 24*7*365. It also provides access to different forums and knowledge areas.
    visit http://www.oracle.com/support for details.
    5.What is the implementation time for a module and complete suite?We have had customers going live in less than a month, and customers who have taken almost a year to complete the implementation.
    The various factors governing this would fall into maturity of your organisation, business operations being covered etc. You may want
    to consult one of the Oracle partners for more information.
    6.What level of custumization is possible with 11i?You can customise to the extent you want, but Oracle strongly recommends that you avoid all customisations as much as possible.
    I think the question should be more like "I have so and so processes in my organisation, can 11i address these without customisation ?"
    7.If I go with 11i apps can I have zero paper work in my company?Yes, you can, but note that in countries where the legal requirements demand paper, Oracle cannot help avoid these.
    If you have to maintain paper records as part of statutory requirements, no software can help beyond a limit.
    8.What is the minimum requirement for an organisation that can go for 11i.i.e. interms of man,machine,materials etc?The most important qualification is the set of business objectives that you want to achieve. The applications help enable,
    maintain, and manage your business operations and provide business intelligence. Organisations size is immaterial.
    Having said that, you also have to keep in mind that if the organisation size is 100,000 USD of sales, any software whose
    cost of implementation is as large, would not provide required benefits.
    I will be thankful if any one solve my queries
    Prabhu.

  • Is it a bug in Oracle API ??

    We are implementing an interface between Oracle Mfg and a third party application to transfer BOMs etc. Here is the scenario I am looking to get some input on.... A simple BOM (2 components) was transferred to Oracle manufacturing using the interface which processes BOM data via oracle API and creates an EC in Engineering module. After this transaction was completed, Engineering module showed item sequence numbers of 10 and 20 assigned to 2 components of the BOM. This BOM was revised and one of its components was disabled (one that had item sequence number of 10)and this change was submitted using our interface. ECO in the engineering module showed that the component was disabled but item sequence number assigned to this component was 30 instead of its original number 10. If the same exercise is carried out directly in Oracle engineering module item sequence number for disabled item would show as 10. So Oracle behaviour is different based on whether item in the BOM structure was disabled using API vs directly in Oracle where it should be same in both cases. Could it be a bug ?? Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Sunil,
    This is a bug. There doesn't seem to be a workaround.
    Can you contact me via email or post your email?
    Thanks.

    Can any one please tell me what has to be done on the oracle side.

    Hi,
    Did you checked below notes and tried this:
    Oracle states that the Oracle EBS system, including the fnd_user_pkg stored procedures, were designed to be used to administer the ORACLE EBS system as the APPS user. Oracle does NOT recommend creating an alternate administrative user. However, if you need to manage Oracle EBS with a user other than APPS, contact Oracle for guidance.
    The alternate administrative user must be granted the same access as the APPS user has to all Oracle data, including tables, views, and stored procedures.
    The user will also need synonyms set up so the user will have access to the tables that the APPS user has access to. If a different user is used and the appropriate grants and synonyms have not been created for the user, the following error might be encountered:
    Error: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
    Add the appropriate grants and synonyms to correct the error. A sample SQL*Plus script is located in the following directory:
    $WSHOME/sample/other/CreateLHERPAdminUser.oracle.
    You can modify this script as necessary and use it to create an alternative Oracle EBS Admin user. Usage instructions are documented in the comments at the beginning of the script.
    For pass-through authentication only, authority is needed to run the following SQL command:
    create or replace function wavesetValidateFunc1 (username IN varchar2,
    password IN varchar2)
    RETURN varchar2 IS ret_val boolean;
    BEGIN ret_val := apps.FND_USER_PKG.ValidateLogin(username, password);
    IF ret_val = TRUE THEN RETURN ’valid’;
    ELSE RETURN NULL;
    END IF;
    END wavesetValidateFunc1;

    We have an oracle financial system running with an inventory module , we need to link the database to an external dataase (text file). The program should upload text formatted (comma separated) data into the respective field and update it.
    Can this be done , this is a part of physical stock taking with a hand held computer..

  • Manufacturing Interfaces documentation in R12

    Hi,
    For manufacturing interfaces, is the documentation in 11i still valid for R12? If not, where can I find it? I checked the doc library CD for R12 and couldn't find the 'Manufacturing Open Interfaces Guide', as it was in 11i.

    Hi,
    Refer to the latest version of the 11i Oracle Manufacturing APIs and Open Interfaces Manual for complete documentation on the Purchasing APIs and Open Interfaces and refer (Note: 437587.1 - Release 12 Oracle Purchasing API and Open Interface Changes) for the change made in Release 12.
    You can also refer to "Oracle Integration Repository" which comes with R12 as a responsibility.
