Oracle Migration Tool

I recently downloaded the Oracle Migration Tool for migrating a
Microsoft Access database to Oracle8 for Linux. This migration
tool contains the following components:

When I went into the Microsoft ODBC Administrator, I could also
see that there was a new entry under the ODBC Drivers tab:

So far, so good.
Then I started going through the Oracle8 ODBC help file to get
my machine set up to start using the tool. Under "Configuration
Tasks," it says the following:
Before you configure the data source, you must configure Net8
database services, so there is an entry for each Service Name.
To do this, start the Oracle Net8 Assistant, either click on the
Oracle for Windows NT program group and click on the Oracle Net8
Assistant icon or from the start bar select Programs, select
Oracle for Windows NT, and select the Oracle Net8 Assistant.
Using the Oracle Net8 Assistant, you can create an entry in the
tnsnames.ora file for each Service Name. The Oracle Net8
Assistant is installed when you install Net8.
That's when I started running into problems. Although the
installer had shown that Net8 had been installed, I could not
find any evidence of a Net8 Assistant on my Windows98 client
machine. Is there a trick to starting up the Net8 Assistant?
Until I am able to perform this step, I cannot go to the next
step of configuring my ODBC driver.
Any help would be appreciated.

Brendan,
I am not 100% sure, but I believe win98 is not supported.... yet.
I know that 95 is supported, but to be honest, I do not run
winDOZE. Maybe an upper authority from Oracle should correct me
if I am wrong.

Oracle Migration Tool giving Access denied error for Read operation

Hi;
Oracle Migration tool is giving access denied error when we are trying to Read a record for Access Profiles.
We are getting (SBL-ODS-50085) error.This is happening only for few records(Access Profiles).
Although the user role is administrator having full access and privilege (Manage User and Access checked).
Pl. help me resolve the issue.

Hi,
Does it happen when you try to read "any" Access Profile?
If yes, please have a look at the
"Admin: Users and Access Controls - Manage Users and Access - Manage Users and establish User Quotas. Define Access Profiles, Roles and Groups to manage data access controls." privilege in the role of the user you use for migration.
In order to avoid any problem, I usually create a "Migration" role temporarily and assign this role ALL the privileges to avoid such failures at the time of export.

Oracle Migration Tool Upsert failed

I met the following problem. ReadAll Picklist works fine with the Migration Tool.
*** Migrationtool -u <username> -s <CRM on Demand Server> ReadAll Picklist**
I´ve got the picklist.xml files into my repository folder.
After that I tried to test the upsert method by changing picklist values for Route in the account object. The following command:
_** Migrationtool -u<username> -s<servername> Upsert Picklist <path to xml>*_
runs successfully
but nothing has changed in CRM On Demand.
Any suggestions? They would be highly appriciated.

Hello Jan,
after a while working at the basics I find out, that only new objects or objects that has changed will be downloaded by the ReadAll command. Other XML-Files will be empty, so an error occured on UpSert method. All other UpSert commands will work fine except the UpSert for Role-Settings. That upsert will end up in an "access denied" error. Upserts on Related InformationLayout will suceed but not in full functionality.

Oracle Migration Workbench download not working

I logged in to download the Migration Workbench, I was asked to complete a survey. I completed the survey, and then was taken to the download page. When I clicked on the link to download, I got an URL not found message. When I go back, it asks me to go through the whole process over again.

Any details on new Sybase to Oracle migration tools announced in August?

I'm currently researching approaches for migrating an application from using Sybase to using Oracle. I came across an announcement that suggests that Oracle is coming out with new tools that go above and beyond the DDL, stored procedure and data migration offered in Oracle SQL Developer. Does anyone know if any additional information is available on what these tools actually do and when they will be available? I have included the description from an informational session at the August OpenWorld conference at the end of this post.
For the application that I am trying to migrate, the biggest challenge are a group of UNIX programs written in C and C++ that use the Sybase Open Client library to talk to a Sybase database.
OpenWorld Session Description from August, 2012:
"Migrating non-Oracle databases to Oracle Database has been a fairly straightforward process with Oracle SQL Developer, but what about all the existing application code that must be rewritten for an Oracle environment. In this session, learn how new exciting technology from Oracle will enable you to simply point your Sybase application to your migrated Oracle Database instance and run without rewriting your application source. Oracle tools also can parse and report the Sybase T-SQL requiring translation. Allow Oracle translators to rewrite the code for you as you test and patch the application as needed before deploying to production on Oracle Exadata."

Oracle migration workbench downloads

After completing the survey on the downloads page when i click continue , i get the following error message.

Can someone help me on how i can get around this, and actually download the product.

I suggest that you retry, maybe there was some network glitches... If you follow the links from OTN you should be able to download no problems. Did you try the split downloads as an alternative?

Oracle 9i Migration Tool for PL/SQL

i tried to migrate the plsql code of my 6i forms to 9i via the oracle migration tool ifplsqlconv90 and always get the following error:
"subclassed module could not be found....."
although I have put the forms, that have been subclassed from, in the same directory.
is it the case, that the tool does not work at all for forms that have subclassed items?

MS Access to Oracle Migration

I have downloaded the plugins from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/migration/workbench/index.html and I dont see any MSAccess.jar file. i see a MSAccess.class file. Am i supposed to copy that to the omwb/plugins ?
If i do that, it doesnt work. Were should I keep the other files of the plugins. Is there any rule? I am using Win XP and Oracle 9i release 2.
Please Help.

I'm not sure of the exact steps you carried out, but hopefully your issue will be resolved if you do the following:
1. As you did before, go to the Oracle Migration Workbench Downloads page, http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/migration/workbench/index.html
2. From section "3-Download the Plug-in for the Database You Want to Migrate", select "Microsoft Access Plugin" to start the download of the MSAccess.jar plug-in.
3. Save the MSAccess.jar to the \plugins folder under your OMWB install e.g. D:\omwb\plugins.
You should now have successfully downloaded the plugin. Restart the workbench in order to pick up the new plugin. If you are seeing an MSAccess.class file in your directory, I'm guessing that the jarfile was unpacked. You are not required to unpack the jarfile after you have downloaded it.

Migration Tool - using a connection with a proxy

Hi,
my connection to Internet is via a proxy. How can I configure Migration Tool to use that proxy? Is it possible?
Otherwise, the error message is: An error occured while connecting to Oracle CRM On Demand Server.
I've done a test with a direct connection (no proxy) to Internet and it works, but unfortunately I need to use a proxy.
Has anyone done this already?

I tried adding editing the BAT file as mentioned in this thread and I think it is bypassing the proxy but fails to generate the XML file. This is the error I get. please share your ideas.

Hi Friends !
I want to migrate Sql Server 7 database to Oracle 8i. For this I have downloaded Oracle Migration Workbench from OTN. Bt when I tried to install it I got message "The Oracle Migration Workbench 2.0.2.0.0 must be installed into an Oracle 9.0.1 Home"
I think the tool provided on OTN is for Oracle 9i. Where can I get the tool that will help me to migrate the databases to 8i ?

Where can I find oracle.toplink.tools.migration.TopLinkCmpMigrator?

From the documentation, it says you have to have
<TOPLINK_HOME>/jlib/cmpmigrator.jar
on the classpath, which is where the oracle.toplink.tools.migration.TopLinkCMPMigrator class can be found.

Got an iMac and used migration tool (PC to Mac). When I try iTunes i get The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version.... download iTunes now? but i have it already???

Unless you've tried to install an older version of iTunes that message likely indicates a corrupt library file. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash...
