  • Making new oracle 10g cluster in redhat enterprise linux

    Hy All
i have installed redhat enterprise server in 2 systems and both are attached with SANE network storage. i want to configure oracle 10 g clustering with this setup.
should i have to configure clustering in linux only or there is a feature of clustering in oracle?
if yes than how to do that? i dont have any idea about oracle
    please somebody help me
    with regards,
    ali

    Hi Ali!
Hardware clustering is differnet from Oracle clustering.
If you have the database you should investigate RAC http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/to_toc?pathname=rac.102%2Fb14197%2Ftoc.htm&remark=portal+%28Administration%29
For the Application Server have a look at http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_18/core.1012/b14003/toc.htm
Hardware clustering with RedHat could be achieved with Piranha.

  • Need Oracle 9i client for RedHat Enterprise Linux AS 4.0 machine

I need to install Oracle 9i client on my RHEL AS 4.0 machine (running Intel xeon 64 bits processor). Could some one please point me to correct installable for this.
I tried to use both the Oracle9i Release 2 (9.2.0.4) installables at http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oracle9i/index.html
But both of them are giving error. For Linux x86-64 installable, the Universal Installer is not able to launch because the installer seems to be for AMD processor. And for second installable (32 bit installable), I get a JRE related error saying that a java library file (some *.so file) could not be located.
Please guide me on the same...
    Thanks a lot,
    Anuj Tiwari

According this info you should install x86_64 version.
In your first post you mentioned some errors during installtion. Can you post exact error message?

  • Problem installing Oracle 9.2 on RedHat Linux 7.1 and 9.0

    Hi everyone,
As the subject line says, I tried installing Oracle 9.2 on
RedHat Linux 7.1 and 9.0, strictly following instructions
    written by Werner Puschitz
    (http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.shtml). Both
    attempts failed with identical symptoms:
    - the installer asks for Disk 2
    - after the disk is inserted, it hangs. It turns out that
kernel is writing messages similar to these in
    /var/log/messages:
    Jun 16 02:45:19 boston kernel: 16:00: rw=0, want=317696, limit=149920
Jun 16 02:45:19 boston kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device
Unless interrupted, this continues until the /tmp filesystem gets full.
Has anyone experienced this? I haven't been able to find
    an explanation so far.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Ljubomir Buturovic

Providing a thread-bare configuration of your machine on which you are trying to install Oracle on Linux (and mind you - which kernel/distro, coz that's important) would definitely help you elicit more responses to your messages.

  • Help! to set up Oracle 9i RAC on Redhat Linux 8.0

    hello,
we are setting up Oracle 9i RAC on Redhat Linux 8.0.
The problem we are having is at the point of sharing the raw partition and mounting the raw partition via nfs.
so we have two dell systems called linuxa and linuxb.
the partitions are made on linuxa (/dev/hda6...) and the raw command is used to bind the raw partition to the device (raw /dev/raw/raw1 /dev/hda6)
now when i run the command to mount
(mount -tnfs linuxa:/dev/raw/raw1 /mnt) i am getting an error
i know this problem isn't directly related with oracle but the whole point in doing this is to install oracle 9i on a shared device between the two system.
i have looked online everywhere for documentation and haven't come up with anything.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
    sara

I don't know that you can use nfs to share a raw partition. This also defeats the idea of the cluster - If a host dies, the disk storage must still be viewable from the other node.
The raw device must be viewable to both hosts. Oracle controls which host is writing to the disk at any instant.
Use the firewire method or use two scsi cards (terminated, with different scsi id's) to a SHARED scsi disk (unterminated).
This works, I have it running here on 2 PC's with Redhat 7.3. The SCSI disk sits in its own external box between the two PC's. NFS is not used at any stage.

I installed VMWare V5.5 (downloaded from oracle site) and then installed Linux on it as guest OS. I have Oracle database 11g R1 intalled on Linux.
I can ping the Linux server from Windows.
I can also ftp to the Linux server from windows and get the files locally on Windows OS.

  • Migration of Oracle Apps from HP-UX to Linux

    Hi Experts,
We have plan to migrate the Oracle Application from HP-UX to Linux OS. Can you please suggest me the road map to be followed :
    requirement :
    Source : 11.5.10.2 + 10.2.0.4 (DB) : HP-UX
    Target need to be : 11.5.10.2 + 11.2.0.2 (DB ) RHEL 64-Bit
Would be grateful , if you suggest the road-map. And suggest if the DB upgrade to be done in the beginning or after the migration.
And also , please provide the note ids to be followed for each activity.

    Hi,
At high-end you will have to break up your work into 02 level:
    1. Perform a platform migration from HP-UX to Linux
    2. Upgrade the Database to 11.2.0.3 from 10.2.0.4
Note: I was aware your target database was 11.2.0.2, but since the latest update is 11.2.0.3  I recommend you do the same.
    1. Perform a platform migration from HP-UX to Linux
HP and Linux share a different endian format, therefore you will have to proceed migrating your database via and export/import (you may not be able to use Transportable tablespace).
    Please refer following:

  • Migration fro Oracle for Windows to Unix

I have created a database (schema object along with database, tablespace, tables, relationships, etc.) in Oracle for Windows. Now I need to migrate the database to Oracle for Solaris. What's the best way to do this?
    Thanks in advance!
    Chris

Exporting the database on the Windows machine and then importing it into a new database on Solaris will be the easiest approach. You will want to create the tablespaces on the Solaris system manually before you do the import since you will want to change the file names and/or locations between Windows and Solaris.

    Haranath

According to http://www.linux1394.org/download.php you should not need any additional kernel module support. You may need to install the libraw1394 RPM packages, but you can get those from your distribution media or from ULN, if your are subscribed.
